What are people saying about Startup Organizer

Guy Simmons What more does this program offer over the many freeware alternatives available?

Alexander Bednyakov Our key feature is the ability to create the Controlled Startup configuration with many capabilities, like wait until Internet connection appears before starting a program. There are various delays and so on.

Also, we are prompt in our support, add features on user requests.

Steven Avery Hi Folks,

A while back I reviewed many startup programs at DonationCoder, and Startup Organizer is one of about 3-4 consistently quality products on the market. Many simply have various lacks, like mediocre interface, missing startup points, limited features, etc.

The others on the same level have free versions, yet the free are not full. Some are better on security interface issues (esp. WinPatrol) yet Startup Organizer may be the best in general interface, moving and understanding what it happening and combining warnings with normal control. Just remember that the warnings are not, if I remember, real-time, they are on a time-controlled polling, making the security aspect functional but not dynamic. Chameleon is the other one in the mix, and the closest alternative to SO. Avira also can be considered, although Startup is not their specialty per se.

All are excellent, my compliments to Alexander Startup Organizer, I may well take advantage of this offer.

Shalom,
Steven Avery

Bob S Couple of questions:
1. I'm often uncertain whether a particular program can be safely removed from startup, or not. Does Startup Organizer provide any info about a program that would be helpful in making that determination?
2. Programs are sometimes added to startup automatically (at least judging from the # of programs that start up automaticallly). Does Startup Org do anything to prevent or alert the user that this is happening?

Thanks.

Steven Avery Hi Folk,s

Even though it is the next day, I will try to answer.

Startup Organizer does not have a good-bad database, often it is better to simply Google-search. And have a good firewall (e.g. Online Armor) than rely on a stale database kept by a utility. Remember the bad guys try to fake out the database anyway with the names and locations they use. So I do not consider this a lack.

The integrated warning system on Startup Organizer is quite good, telling you about new items added to startup. (Some programs separate a warning into a separate module.) It is not real-time dynamic like a HIPS intrusion program, it is done by polling. (This is from my memory.) Good solid integrated warnings are only implemented, in my experience, in about 5 of the startup programs out there. When I was using SO, I always liked the fact that it "remembered" well where we were in the warning world. And it would show a list of changes in full-window mode, not one at a time pop-ups as most do. (A nice plus if you installed five programs or if one program installs five services.)

Whatever you do, I recommend at least one program that is monitoring startup sections and giving you warnings. Firewalls are weak on this, Startup Organizer, WinPatrol , Avira and Startup Chameleon are the four I personally trust. There are probably 2-3 others, but it really should be a startup specialist or very savvy, not a generic utility program with an add-on tack-on module.

In some ways, Startup Orgranizer has always been the crispest and cleanest of the bunch, if not the most sophisticated. They have a forum with light activity, but it is there. They do occasional new releases. Overall I rank it an A or A- very fine program, far, far better than the 25 freewares and utility gizmos out there.

Shalom,
Steven
