What are people saying about Stellar File Wipe Windows

Joe Info This looks interesting. Is Stellar File Wipe appropriate for eliminating possible data traces on a laptop that is used alternately on very proprietary industrial projects and with sensitive financial/medical records? (the data is decrypted for use, and leaves traces. Laptops can be stolen)

May I ask how File Wipe compares to East Tec Eraser and to the popular CCleaner?

How securely will File Wipe erase files on a USB drive?

How securely on an SSD?

Will File Wipe remove old erased filenames?

Nick Kobe Under the fine print it states that the license is per user and then subsequently states that it can only be used on a desktop and laptop. It then further states that the software requires activation with a footprint and can only be installed once. Frankly, this is a great deal of double talk! I was planning on purchasing the software until I read the "fine print". Why not be up front? This isn't user based. It is computer based licensing and then with very unrealistic requirements. I've purchased the last two offerings on BitsDuJour, but I'll pass this one up even though I wanted to buy it based on a user license.

Nigel Blumenthal Let's suppose I want to erase a couple of drives on a computer I want to sell. I install Stellar FW on that computer, then - erase the drive? How would I erase those drives? One way might be to install it on my main computer, then attach the computer I'm selling through the network, but suppose I can't do that (no network connection, card, etc?)

Also, if I want to use it on more than one computer (serially, that is) do I have to uninstall it from my laptop before I reinstall it on my desktop? Will this reset the footprint/activation counter?

The software looks easy to use but the licensing looks terribly restrictive.

Bob Horton I am also interested, but not without clarification on the licensing. I had envisioned a USB installation, then using it on each of the computers and/or hard drives I wish to donate. Heck, some HDDs are not even in a computer; I would access them through an ATAPI to USB adapter. I have a hard time rationalizing the license the wy it's written. Time is running out on this offer; I hope we can get an answer soon!

Tim Blent The product website mentions that this software "Wipes Unused and Slack Space".

Question: does it also erase MFT records, directory slacks and the NTFS Transaction log file?

Kerry Adams @Nigel... if you want to erase drives, use DBAN. Boot from CD.

Michael R. I have a harddisk, which is kind-of-defect, but probably (with the right equipment) not total unreadable: It makes ugly clicking sounds and after a very short time of perhaps 30 secs, when the partitions are visible it kind of powers off and the partitions disappear. Normally I would completely destroy it (with a hammer) and throw it away, but (un)fortunately I have still waranty on it and so I might be able to get a new one.

As said, it might be readable with the right equipment and so I am not perfectly happy with sending it to the waranty-firm with all my personal data on it.

Can your tool help in such situations too, i.e. perhaps intercept the harddisk-bios and overwrite the tracks, which are accessible without hardware-error?

If not, can you or anyone else recommend a tool, which might be able to help with this problem?
Or any
