What are people saying about Syncovery Pro

Tobias Giesen There are no such limits.
CJCotter is there a maximum limit to the size of the individual files being copied? is there a maximum limit to the total amount of files being copied?

Curious Steve Been using this for a couple years back when it was called SuperFlexibleSynchronizer. I'm very happy with it. Developer is always very quick to respond.

Tobias Giesen Existing users should check their upgrade status on our web site. It may be free.
Pavi Johnson Hi, I have Syncovery Pro. I just wanted to mention that this is the best backup/sync solution I have tried!

It does one-way backup, two-way sync, archives old versions, does incremental backup, compresses, encrypts, etc. And it is multi-core, so it really flies.

The developer also worked with me to discover why my backups were taking so long. It ended up being that using the included "highest compression" took ages on some huge ASCII files I had... so he added the option to chose compression levels.

Most highly recommended.

Best, /Pavi

xtabber The policy says that "this promotion can be used to upgrade or extend and an existing license." My license is over 2 years old, so the listed upgrade cost is 50% of the purchase price, the same as the BDJ price for a new purchase. There doesn't seem to be any option to apply the promotion to an upgrade.

Tobias Giesen Correct, the price us the same whether you upgrade here or on our web site. The discounts don't add up.

Alexander Deliyannis As a long time SuperFlexible user I concur with Pavi, this is the best sync software I've ever installed on my PC. If anything, one should take care with the options, as it is indeed very flexible. Two way syncing is as smart as it gets.

I wasn't aware that this was the same product until checking the website, and I was positively surprised as my 5.0 Pro license entitles me to free upgrade. This has occurred to me before in the past; Tobias' upgrading policy very much favours the user, especially considering the continuously enriched feature set. Others charge the same price just for the the cloud access.

Tobias, good luck with the new sexy name for the software :-)

Michael R. Especially @ Alexander & Pavi

Can you compare it with GoodSync Pro, which I recently bought at BDJ, but had not yet the time to seriously use it? (I wanted to use it once or twice, but had not too much time than and it turned out to be too complicated for my quick try, so I just copied the files and postponed my getting-familiar with it...)

Roberto @Michael R, super flexible (syncovery) is a big horse... if you use this kind of tools maybe you will get more than one :)

I never used GoodSync Pro, im a long time user from SyncBackPro, but i cant let go this deal. If you want to google for reviews search with the old name too "Super Flexible File Synchronizer". Look at cnet reviews or at "some good forums that i dont know i can mention here", this is a must have if you sync ocasionally.

Another sync util in my toolbox is SynchronEX.

Sorry to mention many tools or places, just wanted to recommend this but give you extra information for reading.

Alexander Deliyannis @ Michael R.: First of all, whatever program you choose, you should devote some time in setting it up. Syncovery starts up at a simple wizard driven interface, but its true power is seen through the advanced menu.

Without having worked extensively with Goodsync, my impression is that Syncovery excels in the 'smartness' of its two-way sync. In the years I've been using it (as Super Flexible) what I have liked is that it will ask me for specific info and rules, then only bother me again if it finds some files that don't conform to those rules.

I now see that it has added the ability to compare the actual files for changes, when the metadata is inconclusive (e.g. with FTP). I find that quite remarkable.

Cary Mathers Is there a timeline for new cloud services. Specifically SkyDrive and Amazon Cloud Drive, both of which offer 5GB free storage.

FWIW, I tried this app with Bitcasa's "Infinite" folders, and it works pretty well, although I wasn't able to get the auto-unzip feature to work when I tried to restore local folders.

I also set up a sync with Google Docs (Google Drive?) and my local PC. When I wanted to set a folder for deleted files, I could do that locally, but not remote. I was OK with that, except that the software requires you to set up delete folders both left and right... Would be nice to have a say in that. Maybe I want to preserve local files, but I'm OK with remote deletions.

I'd also like to suggest that the zip feature include an option to zip folders individually. If I understand correctly, either you zip individual files, or you stipulate how many files can go in a zip, or the maximum zip file size.

I like this app... Still considering...

Tobias Giesen @Cary:
More cloud services will be added. We are most interested in SkyDrive and Amazon Glacier. I am less sure about Amazon Cloud Drive because there is no official API.

Our support can help you with the unzipping.

A folder for deleted files for the Google side can be typed like this:

/Deleted

Yes zipping by folder is a good idea.
Tobias Giesen The Pro version is also mentioned on our feature matrix:
http://www.syncovery.com/matrix/
Pavi Johnson Hi, Skydrive is my first choice for cloud sync! I now sync to my local Skydrive folder, which uploads. It costs local storage space, of course, but still works.

@Michael R: the main drawback to Goodsync is that encryption is done via EFS only, ie. you need Windows Professional or Enterprise. Syncovery uses AES-256 build into the zip format, so it is integrated and totally secure (do not confuse with zip password protection!).

Best, /Pavi

DroidLuvr I also have GoodSync Pro, but am not fully happy with it, as it seems that you have to "manually" okay a good majority of the changes.

I would like a "smarter" sync option, that can compare files and find the newer, larger, older, etc.... and follow rules by itself to make sync changes. With the advanced options of your program, will I be able to do this? {especially with network attached HDD's over the network??}

Thanks,
Leea

VLM Pavi Johnson - I see your point about the user vs. machine license. But your user license is only for 2 machines, and as a repeat customer, I get GoodSync licenses for USD 12-15 typically. Anyway, I'm interested but missed the deal ... I did something really radical ...

IsayaIE As a long time user of Super Flexible File Synchroniser, the former name of Syncovery, I can only recommend it. Using various settings, it allows both way synchronisation and one way backup.
Positive and negative filters (with or without regular expressions) applied to files and directories allow partial selection of things to synchronise.
Finally I appreciate the ability to use an external compare tool (for text files) to determine what's changed between the two versions when the synchronisation file summary is displayed.

Mar 30 2013 at 4:11am Copy Link

Tobias Giesen You can just copy the files from the program folder to a flash drive after installing it on a PC or Mac.
Atalay Tan Dear Tobias, thank you for your quick response. Is there any possibility to import from SyncBackPro profiles?
Mar 30 2013 at 6:04am Copy Link
0
Tobias Giesen I don't know - you can import csv files, so if SyncBackPro can export profiles and you could rearrange the format in Excel then it might work.
Atalay Tan How can we configure Syncovery to use FastCopy or TeraCopy as an external copying tool? There is an option on Profile Settings-Job-Use external copying tool but i could't figure it out.

Tobias Giesen OK ... this is pretty advanced stuff which only very few people need.
Choose "External Copying Tool", then click "Add New Tool" and enter a name for your tool and two command lines. In the most simple case, they would be like this:
xcopy -y $fromfilepath "$tofolder"

You need to read the "Information on variables" tab sheet.

Also remember to set the option "Use only for files larger than X Bytes" to what you need, for example 0 or 1M.

Then click OK and choose your tool and click OK again ...

To fix problems, you need to study the log files.

Atalay Tan Tobias, I managed to use FastCopy as a copying tool, thank you for your help. It worked.

Best, /Pavi

H. H. Hallo
during testing the software the following question occured:
Is there a possibility to move files and folders - which would be deleted or overwritten regarding to the profile - to a special "backup" folder. What I mean is e.g. that textfile a.txt (new) with a newer timestamp would overwrite textfile a.txt (old) with an older timestamp So the result should be having textfile a.txt (new) in both panes/selected folders, but nevertheless the textfile a.txt (old) should not have been completely deleted, but been moved to a kind of backup -folder (same question regarding complete folders)
Thank you for responding in advance
H.H.

Atalay Tan Dear H. H.,

As far as I know, there is an option for deleted files and you can move deleted files into a specified folder, even into a FTP, SSH or WebDAV server. There is another option that you can use Recycle Bin for overwritten files and deleted files. You can check at Advanced Settings-FilesDeletions.

Steven Avery Hi,

This is a fine software product, based on Donationcoder and other feedback, notice they have a forum, too.

Not sure I *need* it for my limited use, with Cobian and Backup4All (Pro 3) in my arsenal, and doing mostly backup, not syncing (image backup I only do on a light clean system) . However it is a quite tempting purchase, hope you guys extend a day.

One lack, it is hard to find a series of screen pics. Ok, there are two pics on the top left, but that is a bit de minimis.

Cary Adams Good to see this offer extended. I bought last time around... If you need a sync/backup tool, I don't think you could find a better one than this. If it has a drawback, it's in the plethora of options available. I'd like to see a few more online services (Amazon Cloud, Bitcasa, Mediafire ...) but overall I think you'll find it is superior.

Petr I need to sync & backup VMware Guest Machine files. These include very large files that represent the virtual-disks of the virtual machines. For example, a file called DRIVE-C.VDISK represents Drive C: of the virtual-machine guest. When running the VM, only small parts of the large 20GB file are changed. I do not want to recopy or re-sync the entire 20GB file, I just want to re-sync the portions of this file that have changed.

Can your product sync or backup portions of such large files, without the need to send the entire 20GB file to the destination?

Tom Billings I have what may not be so unusual situation now days. I have an online home business with 2 computers (partner lives off-site and uses just one of them), my personal "hot rod" machine, and a backup/testing machine/server, and will add a Windows phone or full Win 8 tablet soon. All need various levels of backup/duplications between them depending on the particular files. Will multiple licenses work with them all, and how many licenses would be needed? Or are there other options? At some point there may be multiple VM's on some of them as well that may need to be included; instead of zip or iso type backups, I may VM the business computers as a backup strategy for quick replacement of a failed/corrupted drive. The programs now used require a lot of attention; Syncovery looks to have a higher level of automation. Thanks.

Tobias Giesen Except for Windows Phone the program can run on all of these machines. In general, you need one license per machine where the software is installed. You may not have to install it on every machine because you can just access them over the network. In fact in some cases, one installation is sufficient to synchronize many computers.
Curious Steve I'm still using Syncovery. Very pleased with my purchase.

Tobias Giesen No, it allows to do synchronizations between a local hard disk folder and an FTP server. Synchronizations can be run manually or by the scheduler.
peter schleifer S(yncovery, ex VeryComplicatedAncientNameIDon'tEvenRemember), has been on offer here quite some times; in the past, I refrained from buying, since even half-price was "too much" for me, considering the "competition", which was half-price of that - obviously, that was a big, big mistake of mine, and I'll happily buy today.

Above, that was the executive summary, here's the longer story:

I

Most users do a lot of renaming of folders, and of moving files into other (sub-) folders (renamed beforehand, or not). Then again, they synch (if they are smart; years ago, I was foolish enough to NOT synch, an booh, some day I lost some data I very much cherished, and which I never ever then could replicate).

Now there are quite some synch tools out there, some even for free, and for years, I have been using Vice Versa Free, which, graphically, is the most beautiful, and the most "functional" (= by immediate "acting about things", i.e. by actiong about subsets of files, manually, by right-click menu, and this implies the graphical presentation of folders and files there which is absolutely outstanding), not overall, see below) synch tool I ever encountered, and I trialled them all (= between 0 and some 200$, that is).

Now, why didn't I just BUY VV Prof., for living happily ever after? (= Is 60 bucks for the perfect synch tool too much? OF COURSE NOT!)

Bec that folks simply refuse to implement monitoring renames and moves of files, or renames and moves of folders (which from the programming pov is NOT that difficult to implement; I did some 80,000 lines of code in my amateur-programmer's life, so I've got at least some MINIMAL credentials to speak out here).

Two (or three) effects arise from this refusal:

- wear-out of your hdd's (= of course, it makes a difference if your synch tool is "smart" enough to just rename/reassign 30,000 pics in the target directory, or if it insists on copying/deleting 30,000 files, for hours, as will do my (graphically beloved) VV and 90 p.c. of S' competitors out there

- NO synch tool of my knowledge does verification of source file and target file (i.e. by check sums et al), so when S just really synchs perhaps 200 really new files, instead of doing idiotic "synching" of 30,000 files of which in fact 28,800 are already there in the target directory, your risk of getting broken files, in your "safe" repository, with S, will be divided by 1,000 (or by several hundred, to be exact ;-) )

- As I say here, I've done a lot of manual work within VV Free - why? Simply bec of my wanting to minimize those two aforementioned probs with synching - but anytime I do so, I'll do, for multiple minutes, completely unnecessary, manual work, by having VV Free on one screen, and my file manager on the other, in order to replicate, at least, all possible folder renames in my target (parent) folder/target hdd/stick/whatever, in order to then minimize the real synching: THIS IS CRAZY LABOUR! And which S will from now on spare me if it functions well!

II

Similar effects (i.e. for points 1 and 2, no means to avoid point 3 above) arise from VV's (and most other competitors') refusal to do delta copying, i.e. if you've got a 1 giga OL (Outlook) db file, it WILL make a difference if the synch tool of your choice just replicates the changed parts of that file (= which is "delta copying"), or if it will replace that 1 giga file, as a whole, again and again and again.

And yes, S DOES delta copying... and very few competitors out there do (a partial/"easy" synonym for delta copying would be "incremental synching, but a correct use of that term would apply to backup tools only).

III

And now it's time to share my experience with "GoodSync", bought here, some time ago, half-price. Well, I don't want to do diffamation, so I'm obliged to tell you that it was "GoodSync2Go" (i.e. so there's a chance the original "GoodSync" is any better), BUT I had installed "GS2Go" on my main usb stick from which I run my 6,000 (or is it now 7,000?) lines of code of AHK macroing, without that stick never ever failing me: So why it fails my, every other minute, with "GS2Go"?!

In fact, I paid "GS2Go" here 15$ plus VAT, which is "nothing", BUT I *GOT* NOTHING, too!

In fact, GS is another one of those, very rare, synching offerings that claim to monitor file/folder renames/moves, for synching.

Well, sue me, "GoodSync", but I call you "BadSync" now - in fact, here and there (i.e. less than 10 p.c. of such files), such a folder rename/move was tracked indeed by "GS2G", and my files to be synched got a mention "renamed to xyz" when then I started the GS synch (and were then, I suppose, properly processed), but about 90 p.c. or more of my "moved" files - most of the time, not really moved, but just within a renamed/moved folder/sub-folder - were faithfully copied anew by GS, and which then were faithfully deleted in their respective folder of origin (as said, about 29,800 out of 30,000, or make it 10 p.c., i.e. 27.000 - all this abysmal).

And for such a "result", I had been prepared to live with with GS's gui, which is, from my humble pov, the worst I ever encountered (not just graphically: also, have a look at their not "opening" any other folder (= not even by option), above just 1,000 files listed, and which could you cause much probs, incl. data loss and all, within their source files' listing)...

And yes, I tried to discuss those probs with that people... without any success... they did not even answer me anymore...

And that explains why, being "proud" (in fact, ashamed: I'd been a fool by buying!) owner of GS, I had reverted to VV Free, and then I did all my necessary synch work, about 1 times a month (whilst it should be done every 2 or 3 days, let alone advocates of doing it daily, which of course is best!), within VV Free, for hours each time...

IV

So why didn't I buy S not full-price, between bits offerings? Bec, after my experience with "GoodSync", I lost my faith, partially, in developers' claims: Better lose 30€ (= 30$ plus VAT) with anything, than 60€, with some other offering that possibly doesn't live up to those claims, right?

This being said, I rate the risk, with S, to not fulfill its claims at about 5-10 p.c., not more, and I'll happily:

- buy upgrades then, full price (i.e. about same price as half-price here, today, for the full product), and

- will tell you that S will have entirely lived up to its feature claims, next time it will appear here on bits,

if, and that's my 90-95% very strong expectation, S is capable of faithfully monitor my folder renames and all that.

And yes, I just would be entirely happy if S tried to optimize its GUI... just have a look at VV in order to get brilliant ideas. ;-)

Btw, aforementioned VV probs are replicated with SyncBack, another commercial (and otherwise "renowned") synch tool, but which is worthless for me bec of these probs it comes with.

V

There's another aspect to consider in synching, which is "versioning". Well, of course, real versioning is quite another task, but some sort of "simili-versioning" should be possible with every paid, good synch tool: Not just "overwriting" of previous "saves", but replicating those, either by an automatic numbering system within the original target folder, or by automatic shifting of those previously "saved files" into an automatically created sub-folder within the target folder.

No need to say that this is the core difference between most free synch sw tools, and the paid ones, and it seems that S executes this task in the very possible optimized way (i.e. sub-folders, upon request). Such a feature only is really important for really important files (and will "eat" lots of unnecessary hdd space on your target medium of it's done "either-or, globally", so my wish for S, to become really perfect, would indeed be, allow users to specify, within a synch job, to specify which ones of your multiple folders/sub-folders will be replicated-with-replication-of-the-previous-saves, and which ones will just overwrite the previous savings - if S introduced such a individualisation of target folder treatment within the same synch job, it would be something really perfect - outstanding from the "competitors' crowd" it is even today (if, by all chance, it processes renames/moves correctly)).

So you see, Syncovery will be the very best "individual" synch tool there is (i.e. in the non-corporate range, for individual users and with affordable prices) if both its delta copying and its renames/moves monitoring will function as advertized, and so 30 bucks for this will be an absolute treat.

In every sw category out there, we've got a "winner", and we've got all chances that Tobias' offering here is very well the winner in t(his) categoy.

As said, I'll buy this presumably in-a-class-of-its-own tool today (and my given name "Schleifer" stands for burying bad sw), and I'll be eager to give S a rave review whenever it just does what it pretends to to, next time it'll appear here! ;-)

(And yes, I understand that for some users, compatibility with this online storage offering of that might be important, too, but then, CORE functionality and its perfect realization is my subject, and it very well appears that Syncovery Pro is the leader of the pack, for that core functionality every paid synch tool should have in the year of 2014 - bec in the year of 2525, we'll all be dead, and we've got a right NOW to profit from what's have been technically possible even years ago... and Syncovery Pro seems to be the only offering out there that really delivers. So what's 30$... even plus VAT? ;-) )

Rich OBrien I love Syncovery Pro and rely on it heavily all day every day. I searched for software like Syncovery Pro for years without being able to discover it until BitsDuJour brought it to my attention in a previous offer. Thanks BitsDuJour.
By using Syncovery Pro's Advanced Settings - Schedule - Monitoring / Real-Time Sync, changes are copied to my backup file in three seconds versus 40 minutes before Syncovery Pro. You want to keep important files backed up in real time? Use Syncovery Pro.
Syncovery is one of the few programs I've ever been able to discover that preserves original folder dates on copies of folders. If you're a Mac user, all programs retain original folder dates. But Microsoft software doesn't and almost every other Windows program doesn't.
In most software I can find room for improvement. I can't find anything I'd add to Syncovery. It is amazingly good.

Tobias Giesen Many many thanks for the comments! This is a really friendly community :)
Cary Adams Syncovery is amazing. I'm synced to GDrive, my NAS, and other PCs on my tiny network... So many options, it took my a while to sort out, but nearly anything is capable. I use this tool to selectively distribute media files, and to secure my backups.

Customer service is top-notch. Any issues I've had (including many "user" issues) were dealt with promptly, thoroughly, and professionally.

IMO there is no better sync tool.

Bob Criswell For those on the edge waiting till the last minute let me sway your decision. Syncovery Pro is an incredible piece of software. It has so many options for scheduling, filtering, copying, moving, etc., etc. I barely use all the functionality it has but the features I use make my work life so much easier. For this price you should just take the chance. You won't be sorry.

Tobias Giesen You can install it any time, now or later. You can also re-use the registration code on a new computer. The registration code you get will also include free upgrades for two years.
lemonade soda Hi Tobias, my usage situation is as follows:

Main instrastructure, fast connects to internet
1./ A desktop
2./ on the same LAN a NAS (running Windows XP)

Secondary infrastructure, slow connections to internet
3./ A laptop, used when travelling, anywhere
4./ A second NAS running at the summer house (running Windows XP)

OBJECTIVE
In addition to the "easy" backup/sync of the desktop and NAS on local LAN, I would like to do the following:

a) when on the road, sync the laptop to the NAS (certain folders), updated files only, but both ways, keep same folder structure
b) when on holiday, sync/mirror the NAS at the summer house to my main NAS, using delta/block copy. Now I can work on files with LAN speeds.
c) if I can do b) then additionally, schedule a midnight sync NAS to NAS, using delta/block copy, identical folder structure, so that I have a mirror backup in case of theft/hardware failure of main NAS

Could you tell me which of the options a, b and c I can do with Syncovery Pro, and in each instance, how many licenses I need to buy, and what should be installed on which hardware (ie is there a client-server configuration for remote scheduling of syncs).

Many thanks!

Doug Hafen I have 2 desktops and 1 laptop and 1HP home server all on my LAN. All are running Windows 7. I am a single user and would like to do a 2-way synch between each PC and the server so that the synched folders are available to all 3 machines simultaneously and immediately so that I can work from any of the PCs on the same files. I assume that Syncovery Pro would do this. Does each PC have to have the software installed on it? How many licenses would I need to purchase?

Tobias Giesen lemonade soda: the software can do all that, but it can't run on a NAS, so you need to run it on a PC even if you want to sync NAS to NAS. It copies only new files anyway, so block level copying may not be necessary. It can only help save bandwidth for some specific file types and in specific situations. Please see https://www.syncovery.com...l-copying/. The number of licenses depends on the number of installations where the product is used at the same time. You can also get one license here and upgrade to a Family Pack on our web site.
Tobias Giesen Doug Hafen: you could use just one license and run all jobs on the server. Or, if you need more flexibility and want to install it on each machine, you could get one license here and upgrade to a Family Pack on our web site.
lemonade soda Just to clarify, my LAN based "NAS" is just a rack PC running Windows OS acting as a shared folder "fileserver" with standard Windows ACL (not Active Directory or anything fancy). So to sync the laptop with the "NAS" over the internet, where do I install Syncovery? On the "NAS"? And then the laptop connects to it via some client software? Or do I install it on the laptop, then how does it connect to the "NAS"? Do I have to install another copy of Syncovery on the "NAS" so they can communicate, or do I have to install an FTP or WEBDAV server on the "NAS"? If I have to install an FTP or SFTP or WEBDAV on the "NAS" do you have any idiot-proof instructions for installing (free versions) of these? Thanks.

John Oliver A few questions if I may please.
1) Does this software detect immediate changes?

2) If I install on one Windows PC would that be sufficicient for a local area network ( LAN )?
I have more than one Windows based computer and and old MacBook Pro.

3) In order for 2) to work would I need to completely SHARE the hard drive on any other computer which doesn't have this software installed?

4) If the requirement of 3) is TRUE then would it be better to get the MAC version or the PC version or can either cope with all devices on a LAN ( including ANDROID devices? )?

If it doesn't do so already I suggest to add the feature of backing up
or / and syncing ANDROID ( phones and tablets )
or / and APPLE ( phones and tablets )
as well as WINDOWS ( phones and tablets ).

2) Yes, you can sync with any number of machines on the LAN or back up their data.

3) You would have to share only the folders that you want to sync with or back up, not the complete hard drive.

Tobias Giesen Hello,
to sync between a PC and a Mac, you only need one version (PC or Mac). Please try connecting the two machines to the same LAN or WLAN and sharing files between them. Sometimes it's easier to access the Mac's files from Windows, or the other way around. As soon as you can see the Mac's files in Windows Explorer, or the Windows files in the Mac's Finder, then you know which version of Syncovery you want. Syncovery can access any folders you can see in Windows Explorer.

Jim B Thanks to all the users who posted comments on their experiences with this product. I purchased last night and have it running today and am absolutely thrilled with the performance so far. I had been using FreeFileSync and it generally worked but I have had annoying failures that would stop the sync from working until I manually ran the program to clear the error. This would usually be a locked file or some other random situation, which appears to not cause any trouble with Syncovery. Fantastic program!

Tobias Giesen Many thanks Jim!

Tortuga, you can keep the registration info in the INI file by copying it to the flash drive. Then theoretically you don't have to enter the info every time. In any case, registration only involves entering the name and code. The software does not phone home for activation.
Tortuga @Tobias - Thank You *very* much for clarifying the process
So, if I copy the WHOLE folder from ProgFiles, all the infos (including the .INI) will be transferred, yes? Will I need to go somewhere else (eg ProgramData, or ...) to fish out other files, to consolidate everything on my External?
I haven't installed yet, so don't know if other files will be installed. Will install when I get home tomorrow.

And thank you for this great app :)
Peace

Do you support sync to unc paths? This a big deal, I don't map in windows or osx for a variety of reasons.

scaevola na fantastic.
So I run boot camp on my desktop and laptop and osx on both. Does that mean I need 2 licenses? Technically they are both a single machine just each has 2 os installs.

Tobias Giesen Hello,
please contact supportsyncovery.com if you have missed the deal or if you would like any of the other license types not offered here.
Rich OBrien I learned of Syncovery Pro almost two years ago from BitsDuJour and I use it every day. It preserves the original dates on folders. It can run in the background and use Windows Shadow Copy to copy files that other programs can't copy. It provides everything I'd been searching for. It was easy for me to figure out and yet it offers endless features that go far beyond anything I may ever need Syncovery Pro just released a huge, new upgrade with many sophisticated features. For 50% off, what a deal.
I only wish Syncovery Pro displayed the time it takes to update a copy. I'd like to be able to show people that sometimes Syncovery Pro can intelligently backup a 27 GB file in 3 minutes that would otherwise take more than 30 minutes.
Thank you BitsDuJour for helping me to find this useful program that I looked for but couldn't find without your help.

Alternatively, you can avoid the express checkout and proceed with the order regularly and enter your billing address and then choose PayPal as payment method.

Petr I love the feature set but have some pre-sales questions please:
((1)) To sync between to Windows computers, can I use just one license? Or otherwise, please advise.
((2)) I have a Windows 2000 Server. Does Syncovery install & run on this old OS? If only a partial feature set is supported, what features work (dont' work)?
((3)) Do you support BackBlaze B2 Cloud Storage?
((4)) Can Syncovery co-exist with my other backup software? On my Windows 10 Pro laptop, I have: (a) BackBlaze installed and doing real-time file-based backups (BackBlaze doesn't use Volume Shadow Copy), and (b) I also have ShadowProtect SPX which I run occasionally and this software uses VSS (Volume Shadow Copy). How would I use your software on this Win10 system?
((5)) Is there a way to trigger or launch a program or batch file before (and after) a synchronization job? For example, I want to run a database backup utility to ZIP a backup from a proprietary database before Syncovery grabs the newly created file: DbBackup2016oct06.zip (for example). If 'yes' will this work on all versions of Windows? Thank you.

Tomasz Lisowski A question: What Syncovery does if a scheduled backup job is targeting a removable drive, which is not yet attached at the time of launching the job? Does it just quit with an error, or maybe it is able to prompt the user to attach the drive?

Tobias Giesen Hello,
yes you need only one license to sync between two computers. You need to install it only on one of the machines.

Syncovery 6.74 works on Windows 2000. You can find it on the Additional Downloads page.

Yes, Backblaze B2 is supported, as well as many other cloud storages (Amazon drive, Google Drive, DropBox, box, etc.).

It can co-exist with other backup software but you should make sure that there are no conflicts and two programs aren't trying to use VSS at the same time. You can disable VSS in Syncovery in each profile (job).

Yes you can specify a batch file via Job->Execute before/after in each profile. This works on all versions of Windows.
Tobias Giesen You can allow the scheduler to display a prompt if the removable drive is missing. To do this, please go to the Program Settings, tab sheet Misc, and choose
X Scheduler may prompt to turn on and connect missing drives

In addition, on the Scheduler tab sheet of the main dialog, click on "Tools and Settings" and deselect "Start Profiles in Parallel".
Tobias Giesen Concerning Windows 2000, well version 6 doesn't have all the cloud services that the latest version 7 has. So maybe you can't use Backblaze B2 on Windows 2000.
Thomas M Pre-sales. I have faith in the product although untried. In the fine print did not see statement regarding personal or business use being allowed. Please clarify. I would be looking to buy Qty 6 in a business environment. Thanks for your prompt reply.

((?)) Can I buy a Linux pro license here at BitsDuJour? or can I get the same deal on the Linux pro version?

((?)) For the Block Level Copying feature in Pro, and the Synthetic Backup feature, does Syncovery only have to be installed on ONE computer? How does it know the details of the file on the other side (target for the copy/backup) if Syncovery is not running there? Or, does it have to read the entire file to determine the delta? I'm trying to minimize network traffic on a slow connection or if the file is multi-gigabye in size.

Hariharasudhan Reghuraman Hello Tobias,

"The Fine Print" says "This promotion can be used to upgrade or extend an existing license."

I have a Syncovery Family license I purchased in Feb 2014.
How do I get a discount on the upgrade price ?

Best Regards,

Tobias Giesen Hello,
please email supportsyncovery.com and we will email you an ordering link for the upgrade.
wts You can see from the older comments that this sw gets high recommendations.

Similarly to Hariharasudhan I wrote to Tobias looking for a discount on an upgrade to version 8. I received a very quick email response with a nice discount beyond the usual 50% upgrade discount. Thank you, Tobias, for being so responsive and thank you, Bits, for offering such good sw!

Though if I might add a very very minor thing, I think I like your old logo color scheme better. It just looked better in my tray. :)

Peter Gabriel Hello

I've tried to purchase your software but was dismayed to find it had to go through Digital River. For some reason I suddenly cannot purchase software through them despite having a genuine bank account/ credit card and PayPal account. Enquiries as to why this is happening go unanswered. So, due to their apparent lack of customer care, you have lost a sale, as have one or two other software developers in the recent past.

I realize this is in no way the fault of BDJ or the software developers. I just wanted to get this off my chest.

Thanks

Chris User - How does Syncovery handle folder and file renames (or moving)?

Does it just carry out the relevant rename /move operation on the target folder or deletes the folder/file in the target and resend the data?

- With the 5 pack family license - can this be used as linux also? i.e. Two win desktops, 2 linux servers and one synology box?

- With the single license - is this for one workstation and one laptop ( two machines)?

- How do upgrades work, do we just pay the difference?

Thank you.
Mar 8 2019 at 8:46am Copy Link
0
Tobias Giesen Hello,
yes, Syncovery can just perform the relevant moves and renames on the destination rather than deleting and recopying the files.

Yes you can get a Linux registration code with the Family Pack. Please request it from supportsyncovery.com. You can use that on a Synology box just fine.

Single licenses can be installed on two machines but should not be used at the same time on both.

Yes upgrades can be made by paying the difference.
Chris User Thanks Tobias. To clarify:

With the family pack, I could use the Linux registration code provided by support on Two linux servers and an additional Synology box, is this correct?

Regarding upgrading, from Pro family ($59.95) to ultimate ($99.90) the upgrade cost would be $39.95?

Thanks

lisba f In order to sync my two computers I need one or two licenses?
Dec 19 2019 at 10:34am Copy Link
0
Tobias Giesen Hello,
to synchronize a folder directly between two computers on a LAN, you only need one license, because you only need to install it on one machine.

You would only need two licenses, or a Family Pack, if two computers need to sync with a cloud storage (for example), and the scheduler runs on both of them. If you don't use the scheduler and only run jobs manually on two computers, one at a time, then one license is sufficient.
Bobby User I don't need the software right now.

But I would like to take advantage of this deal just to have your great software which comes highly recommended from Donationcoder.

If I would buy it now, can I activate it, when it is needed in the future, and then the 24 months count from the date of activation not from today?

Anything special I need to do for that?

T User Purchased the family pack after finding out that there is also Qnap/Synology support in that option. Supports almost every imaginable option and many platforms. Also Pcloud support, which seems to work much more reliably than my previous webdav attempts . This is the sync/backup software I have searched for my home PC/Mac/Qnap/Synology/Pcloud environment. Easily worth the full price, but at this price a real steal! Also thanks to Tobias for quick answers.

I have version 6.35 Professional ; your upgrade page offers "your price will be reduced by 14.97 USD", but that is from the regular 59.90 N.American price, bringing it to 44.93, which is - obviously - still a lot higher than the current offer.

Professional is good enough for me, no need for the Premium

Bobby User Hello,
I use my 1TB Office365 OneDrive to synch my data partitions to OneDrive and Syncovery encrypts the files in the Onedrive cloud. Would your premium edition bring me significant speed advantages?

Could you please tell us, when your premium edition File System Monitoring Service for extremely fast block-level copying brings advantages to the user and in what scenarios? I don't find much explanation of it on your web site.

Also please could you elaborate on your Remote Service feature of the Premium edition? Can it be used in the cloud like OneDrive or Google Drive or is it mainly for NAS users?

sorry, I didn't see the question last year. None of the Premium features you mentioned work with OneDrive or Google drive. They work only if you have full control over both ends (local and backup).

Caveman I had a look to the feature matrix in the website but apart from NTFS Security and Support email, it's not very clear what "Remote Service" does and specially in relation with generate remote listings fast. For instance, I use Google Cloud Storage for backups, will that be of any benefit? Will it just for a local backup?

Would it be possible to avail for a Premium license with 50% offer? Whether with individual license or Combo Family pack? What would be the price in both cases? When renewing the license, will the 50% based on the normal price or on the Bitsdujour offer?

Thanks.

Tobias Giesen Hello,
for usage with cloud storage, the Premium Edition does not bear any advantages over the Professional Edition.

H. H. Hello,
following questions
1. what happens in case the target volume drive letter has changed (e.g. k instead of h) or one has at first connected USB-Drive AX with drive letter k, and later disconnect Drive AX and
instead connect USB-Drive B, which now has the assigned drive letter k (which before was assigned to USB-Drive AX)?

2. is there a possibility to move older files and folders, which would be overwritten during synchronizing to a separate folder instead?

3. what does the "The subfolder selection dialog has a new checkmark “Automatically Add Future New Folders and Files to Selection" mean?
Does it mean, that before version 8 a later added subfolder was not synchronized - e.g. c:\test\subfolder a later gets a subfolder subsub b (c:\test\subfolder a\subsub b)
and additional subfolders and files in subsub b (c:\test\subfolder a\subsub b\subsubsubtestfile)
- would there have been missing files and (sub)folders in the target?

4. are there any important advantages of version 9 pro in comparison to the
version 7 - in case one does not need any cloud / ftp support,/no permissions-handling/encryption /amazon s3 handling?

thank you for clarifying in advance
H.H.

Tobias Giesen Hello,
you can identify drives by volume label instead of drive letter. For example, type the path as MyDrive:\Foldername instead of E:\Foldername. In that case, you can't use the Browse button to choose the folder. Or use the Browse button first and then replace the drive letter with the volume label.

Yes, versioning can keep older files in a separate versioning folder ("Older" folder).

Yes, before version 8, new subfolders may sometimes not have been added to the selection list, if other subfolders on the same level were deselected. But deeper subfolders of entirely selected folders were always automatically included.

There are many internal optimizations and improvements in Syncovery 9, including usability improvements such as “Minimize to Tray” and “Run Profiles in Main Window”. It's also more responsive in general. The new Sz format can compress and encrypt files without needing temporary files.
riad af Just to make sure:

But seriously, I use and will likely continue to use Goodsync, since I'm lucky enough to have a V10 license. But having to pay every year to KEEP v11 working, I just can't see that.

Hence, this is very attractive. NICE UI options for a 4k screen so things are not so tiny.
