What are people saying about TagTuner (5 User License)

Ian Cook Your product looks good, but the main thing I want it for is the Album recognition and artwork search facility.
I am sorry to say but it does not work very well.
I have tried this on many songs and the search results don't relate to the selected song(s) at all,
For example I selected just one song "Cat Stevens - Cat's In the Cradle" and it returned "L~Arc~en~Ciel / Honey", "U2 / All That You Can't Leave Behind - Disc 2 of 2", "Kelis feat. Andre 3000 / Millionaire [Promo]" etc etc. Not a single Cat Stevens song was returned.
Do you have any advice on how to improve the search facility please?

Kirill Zinov Hello Ian,

TagTuner relies on CDDB\FreeDB to lookup the data. Unfortunately FreeDB has a lot of garbage and it is designed for audio CDs. It means that album info lookup is performed by the tracks durations only. This can produce results users don't expect to see. The main reason is that ripped tracks always have different duration from the original CD tracks. Current algorithm has some fizzy logic inside, it helps a lot but not always.

We have ideas and some working code to try to improve the search results. Hope to put some improvements in next versions.

Another and well working approach is Gracenote Music ID. It works well for popular music and is completely useless for classic music. It is a "wave-form recognition" thing. The track info search is performed by sending the "shape" of song... Unfortunately, this technology is not available for small independent developers. I have contacted Gracenote two times and stuck on the stage when Gracenote was informed with our sales volume. Looks like if you are not AOL size company - you are not their client.

So, album recognition is a feature that depends on third-party the most.

Kirill Zinov With the mention above, there are two requirements for album information lookup feature:

1. You need to have all of the album tracks.
2. You need to sort them as they exist on the original CD. It is easy if you have some information like file names (track01, 01-... etc).

No tracks - no proper results. Wrong order - too much variations. An appropriate message is shown first time user tries to search for album info until "Do not show this message" checkbox will be selected.

In my search I was only looking for one song at a time.

If the file name was not "track 01" etc I would have thought you would have been able to narrow the search down by looking at the name of the song, or the artist, or the file name.
At least something to help find the album art etc easier.

Today I'll put a detailed explanation message in case when user is trying to search by selecting only one track. Hope this will prevent confusion and ignoring current warning message.

TagTuner sends all information available from track name and existing tags to the server. This is for future modification on server-side part I wrote before. No desktop application modification needed to show better search results.
