Ennovy "After you purchase TextExpander it may be used for 12 months and will not function after that unless you renew your subscription."

That makes it a NO DEAL for me.

mix624 Ok, so all my private texts snippets etc are splattered out in the "safe" and "private" cloud ? Then I am not interested. And I dont like being chained to subscriptions either, in fact I hate it (just to be clear).

Bruno Del Frate Looks incredibly useful, but unfortunately I hate subscriptions too. I really hope you'll reconsider your license terms, and think about an option for anyone who doesn't like repurchasing the same software every year.

Paul I have to agree with all three of the previous comments, especially on software like this. I'm assuming the subscription is to pay for the cloud, but we could backup to our own computers or our own cloud storage. This whole subscription thing is getting out of hand, we can't possibly afford to pay yearly for every single program we own, so we will have to make cuts, this would be one of those cuts for me.

Chuck What is the cost for the next 12 months? And the next 12 months after that? Etc?

Looking at the website, paying annually is $39.96. I typical user would expect to get five years out of a piece of software. Assuming prices don't change over that period (big assumption, I know) and doing the math:

Year 1: $19.98
Year 2: $39.96
Year 3: $39.96
Year 4: $39.96
Year 5: $39.96
Total: $179.82

That is... Not even in the realm of the possible for me given this software's utility.

Rick I am personally not interested in purchasing subscription based software and I will only do so when the software is essential to my work and no reasonable alternative is available (e.g., Adobe CC), or it is overly apparent that daily to weekly updates are essential (specific internet and malware applications). Relative to TextExpander, I would personally consider purchasing a perpetual software license, with within version updates, at a maximum cost of $19.98.

Robert Bull @Chuck: well done for pointing out the total cost. That would be most of the price of the top-ranked professional medicaltranscription ist software, and their licence is better.

Stew Cam I use Breevy (http://www.16software.com/breevy) and am very happy with it. I previously tried several other text expanders. I used PhraseExpress for a few years but got fed up with paying a hefty and too frequent upgrade fee. Like others, I avoid subscription software.
