Andrew Griffiths Dave - downloaded and installed. Some quick observations:
1. Fonts are minuscule so very hard to read and I haven't figured out to change. I have 2600 x 1920 screen resolution - could that be it?
2. In IdeaBrowser, #s for keywords do not line up in a column - they're all over the place
3. For Lyrics, program told me it cannot detect an internet connection!!!!
4. Your program still interests me but what with the problem with the Windows download which has delayed my evaluation and these issues which have cropped up in only 10 minutes, I'm not comfortable buying such a relatively pricey program without possibility of refund if need be. Does your 1 year guarantee apply for this deal?

Mark Effinger Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the quick eval. Here's my feedback of the moment:

1) Fonts: To resize, go to Thoughtoffice=Preferences. Major Topics adjusts the font sizes for the Topics Modules. Session Settings handles the font sizing/color/style for the Session (the main window where you assemble all of the ThoughtParticles in Thoughtoffice).

The IdeaBrowser fonts are not (yet) adjustable, aside from the classic Alt-+ (Command-+ on Mac). That is a feature 2.0 coming this spring.

2) The Database we receive the Keywords from (a Meta Keyword Search) is being fiddled with in anticipation of v2.0 release. That will be cleaned up as well. The actual keywords, as a source for innovation, are still usable.

3) The Lyrics Database is being upgraded through February. We know about the issue, and are in direct contact with the database resource. As it gets upgraded, it will dynamically fix within Thoughtoffice on launch (as will any additional update or issue).

4) Yes, we warranty the program as new. So no problem with the warranty policy.

We're also providing advanced training in our facilities on the US/Canada border. We have a great office in a historic building that screams "innovation". Let us know if you want to really leverage the power of ThoughtOffice. If you can't make it, we'll also be providing the videos to our clients as a rapid training on creativity, innovation and Concept To Cashflow.

[1] Yes, your screen resolution is why the fonts are very small. A screen magnifying program like ZoomIt by Sysinternals can help. Most of our users apparently are running lower screen resolutions. Subsequent program updates will address this issue. Font sizes are fixed in the IdeaBrowser, but can be changed in the Topics Browser and main Session window.

[2] The numbers on the Keywords are a database artifact. The next update will clean that up. All users of the program will receive the next update.

[3] The Lyrics database is being upgraded. Our apologies. We expect it to be restored soon.

[4] Our One Year Guarantee does indeed apply to this promotion. And you've done a very thorough review of the program, Andrew! Thanks!

Tore Hoyem Hmm .. I can't seem to get the code to work. When I try to apply it, the price still comes up as $495.95, not $168.50 (or even $497.00)

I find this sort of system interesting, but I don't have an immediate case to test it out on.
It would be great if some BDJers who has already used this for a 'real world' purpose could leave a few comments on its value and practical use.

I'm also wondering if this type of tool will have a less than optimal effect for those of us who don't use English as our working (or everyday language). I.e. that the 'workflow' goes hand in hand with the English language.
Any thoughts on this?

S D I'm not finding this software intuitive. I downloaded the trial version using the link about, but can't find the topic plugins - did they get downloaded too, or do I need to download them from the website? I guess I'm also looking for a quicker guide than the quick guide. I'm trying to get up to speed quickly so that I can evaluate it, but I'm having a hard time with that. The concept intrigues me so I'd definitely like to test this out today.

Randy Martin I downloaded the program.
Then there were 3 updates to be downloaded.
Then a window appeared
Then I entered "Learning Mangement System"
I got virtually nothing.
When I went to "word association" number six on the list was "urology"

Now, maybe I'm just new at this, and maybe I am calcified in my thinking, but for the life of me, I can find NO association between LMS and urology.

There is no undo.

I can't tell where the beginning of my project is or how to get back to it. I can no longer find the words I entered or the reactions those words initially produced.

I agree. This is NOT intuitive.
I think I may pass.

Mitchell Kastner I purchased ThoughtOffice with three expert modules this past summer for about 108 dollars. So this is a great deal. Dave Lockman provides immediate and awesome support. I am definitely going to buy CEO though I doubt that I will use all the modules but you never know.

I am an attorney who is writing a book on medical privacy for managers. Using the questions from ExpertEvaluator module alone, I have discovered several critical issues that managers must consider in ordering a fitness for duty examination that I had not considered. ThoughtOffice makes me appear more well thought out than I am.

Alas, I am disappointed again that apparently BDJ has not road-tested the buying process. I purchased BucketExplorer and the discount disappeared when I added another program to my shopping basket, causing the vendor to go on to Paypal to refund half of the purchase price. Great customer support, but I don't know why this continues to happen. It is dispiriting and makes me averse to buying software here. But this is such a great deal that I am going to buy it anyway with the knowledge that Dave will fix any problems

The price is very relative to your application. Development cost millions. Our clients solve big problems with it. Many create ads that make them millions (and billions).

Mark Effinger To the respondents using the trial: Here are a few quick insights:

1) It can be helpful to make sure you install with your anti-virus turned "off" during the install and the initial startup. That allows the Plugins (a key part of the program - and updated regularly) to download and install. Once installed, it works much more elegantly.

2) The Philosophy was developed over 3 decades of working with Domain Experts on how they think, create, innovate, teach, coach and solve problems.
- Ask Questions (in the right order). You find the Questions under the Topics button. In your case, you'll have a QuickStart module only. The CEO version will load an additional 16 modules with more than 13,700 total questions. By topic, in the order necessary to drill-down on an issue or opportunity.

3) The Ideas button launches the IdeaBrowser. Here, you type in a word (or short phrase) and explore the lateral associations, from recursive definitions, synonyms, images, word associations, etc...

Make sure you check the Auto Track checkbox before starting (that saves your searches automagically).

NOTE: The Lyrics Tab is being updated and will indicate No Internet Connection until the update is complete (we're integrating a much larger, more scalable Lyrics database).

NOTE2: We're also adding a number of additional Tabs to the software over the Spring. Lots of updates for our users.

4) Start by clicking the Add Entry and type-in an idea, problem, area of exploration or similar. A starting point.

5) Go to Session Prefs or File=Save to create an initial Brainstorming Session (Prefs provides more naming, saving, sharing, branding and Security options).

6) Then click the Topics button. Select a module (you'll only have the Quickstart for this demo). Launch Quickstart - then I suggest you click the Expand button (upper right). Now you can see all of your questions. Click the one's that you want to explore, respond to, etc... (this is drilling down while also engaging your brain).

7) Answer them as quick as possible.

8) Select the keywords that jump out at you as your read the Questions=Responses you just added to the Session.

9) Select a word or short (2-3 word) phrase, and click Ideas. Those words will become the search terms for the IdeaBrowser. Explore!

10) Add your responses from the Ideas to your Session in as small a Thought Particle as makes sense (in other words, small, fast entries create velocity in your brainstorm, and reduce confusion).

Version 2 is extra cool in a number of ways. We'll cover this in the pre-release notes - but it's the result of the last 6 years of development since our IdeaFisher days. So lots of insight applied to the interface, functionality and the expandability.

Mark Effinger Not only can you run the program from a flash drive, but the license allows the program to be installed on up to three of your computers. Usually our customers are running their work PC, their laptop, and a desktop machine at home. We allow you to install ThoughtOffice on all three.

Mark Effinger C Apalodimas - I believe the last update we did also made ThoughtOffice "flash compatible". I forget the protocol that was released a couple years ago, but our Dev Team was applying that to the last build. Worth a check.

As for the 3-License Agreement: That applies to a single individual, not multiple individuals. Just wanting to clarify.

But it's cool to have it on all 3, and use the integrated security key to pass a secure doc back and forth. That's how Homeland Security and NASA use ThoughtOffice between offices. And Drew Carey (you never know how Top Secret a good joke can be).

You'll also want to ZIP the Session File when you do so. That wraps the code in a nice protective layer against bit-loss in transfer.

S B I was a happy user of Idea Fisher many years ago. Its words, inflection, relationships, and interesting ideas were a boon to my technical business, communications, technical writing, and university teaching.

I've missed Idea Fisher, and look forward to a much newer generation: perhaps a small step towards a semantic web.

w e i can't get the promotion to work with paypal. Shows up with the discount on the order page, but then when it goes to paypal, it's got the full amount.

Yes, there seems to be a direct issue with the PayPal portion (something to do with the cart we use... good to know).

Mark Effinger We've been seeing some trouble getting the discount passed along to PayPal. Some customers have had success by using an alternate browser such as Firefox of Google Chrome.

Make sure that you also have cookies and Java enabled, and that your anti-virus / anti-spyware software isn't blocking the hand-off between the shopping cart and PayPal.

If all else fails, we will happily refund the amount of the discount to your PayPal account, immediately upon receipt of your order. You can also call us, and we can walk your order through the system.
