What are people saying about titlebee subtitling software

CFGuy Dear Ttitlebee,
I've seen similar programs (in this category) here on BDJ and the web, and can't say that I currently have a need for such a program; however I wanted to give you some positive feedback on your "EULA/"Fine Print" for this program. Allowing a user to install a program on all of his/her currently owned computers (as long as he/she does not use the program on multiple computer at the same time) is a very generous and "user friendly" installation policy, and I can assure you is much appreciated by your customers. If I were to have a need for a subtitling program, this generous and flexible installation policy would weigh heavily in favor of your program, and may very well be the difference between purchasing a license for it over another. I wish you much success with your offering of this program. On a side note, I believe that subtitling is becoming increasingly important on video programming, with an increased aging population of "baby boomers" and even for non-hearing impaired content viewer like myself. I have watched enough programs with my parents (who do need the subtitles), I now find myself preferring my content with them, as it helps me keep up with the dialogue of the content I am watching, and I am accustomed to them being on the screen now. I even turn subtitles on when I stream YouTube videos through my Roku and PC now (especially instructional videos). For content providers, I believe the market/demand for subtitled content might, in fact, be larger than what was anticipated; and I also feel that it has somewhat come to be an "expected" (by home viewers) part of most video content these days. I definitely see an increased need and market for programs such as yours. Wishing you the best of luck with your offering, -Cfguy

Hatim User Thanks CFGuy, our end-user license is very permissive and allows a subtitler to work on titlebee on-site at a clients workstation. Please feel free to download the free "bronze" version that lets you subtitle up to 3 videos so you can produce videos for your parents when subtitles for them aren't readily available. Did you know you that as well as creating SRT or STL files, you can also use titlebee to "burn in" subtitles onto the video so that they're permanently embedded in the video file? You can download the free version here to try this for yourself:

JLG 99.00 for 24 subtitled projects, and then what? you have to pay again?
Aug 5 2017 at 11:18pm Copy Link
Hatim User Hi JLG thanks for your enquiry. You can upgrade to the gold or platinum versions. If you already know you'll be exceeding that project capacity I recommend skipping the silver version and buying a gold or platinum license instead. You can find out more here:

Visitor-2014 Hello. The features offered with your software seem to be very interesting. I would have liked to test titlebee but unfortunately this was not possible because when I try to start titlebee it tells me that I have to change my DPI settings to 100% in Display Settings. That's something that definitely I want (and I have) to avoid because only with 125% (which is also characterized on my computer as default!) the display of text, icons etc. on my monitor is correct.

So my question: Is there there any possibility to start titlebee and to work with it when I keep my DPI settings at 125%? (If it is of importance: The resolution on my monitor is 1920 x 1080.)

Thanks in advance for your answer.
Sep 19 2017 at 6:39pm Copy Link
Hatim User Thanks Visitor-2014, titlebee attempts to set itself as a high-DPI aware app, if you received that message it means it was unsuccessful due to permissions. Try right clicking and "Run As Administrator". Alternatively use livechat on our homepage to resolve your issue:

Benjamin User Unfortunately for me, I won't be able to afford this price as I'm just a student. Does anyone know where I could find a cheaper subtitling software that would have similar features and would be as user friendly as titlebee ? I would have done a review and promoting work to get my copy at a cheaper price... but it would have been too good to be true. Nice software anyway, I would have buy it right away if I could afford it.
Sep 20 2017 at 6:59am Copy Link
Hatim User Thanks Benjamin we do offer academic licensing to colleges and universities so please ask your IT department to get in touch with us to make titlebee available at your institution. In the meantime we can recommend you try free open source subtitling software such as AegisSub Subtitle Edit Jubler or Subtitle Workshop and compare with titlebee
titlebee - Sep 20 2017 at 7:45am Copy Link
Visitor-2014 Hello Hatim User! Thanks for your advice concerning the DPI issue! Starting titlebee as administrator worked fine. Just a suggestion: Wouldn't it be good to place your advice somewhere on your homepage too (e.g. in the FAQs)? I think it would be a useful help also for other users whose DPI setting is not 100%. (Perhaps an additional information: In case that after right clicking the file there is no entry "Run As Administrator" in the context menu, you have simply to press Shift before making the right click. Then the entry will be there.)

Concerning the software itself: Until now I tested it only for a short while, but I already saw that it works excellent! It is extremely easy and comfortable to use and it obviously provides exactly the result (= subtitles) the user expects. Subtitling is by far more pleasant than with other (freeware) programs I tried until now. Your software is not cheap - and that is the only reason why I hesitate to buy it ;-.). But concerning the quality of the software my impression is that you offer a first-class product.

Hatim User Thank you Visitor-2014 for your praise, our goal is to make titlebee the best subtitling software. We offer email or livechat support to all our users and aim to respond within an hour of any query, but we are also expanding the FAQ to include the most common questions. Please do take advantage of the offer from our friends at BitsDuJour. Happy subtitling!
titlebee - Sep 20 2017 at 9:52am Copy Link
Visitor-2014 Yes, at the moment remain about 14 hours for the offer at BitsDuJour and I will think about it. ;.-)

Just an additional question: Is it normal that the creation of hardsubbed (and softsubbed) movie files takes quite a long time? I tried it with a small video (avi-file, about 4 minutes) adding only three or four subtitles and the process took about 5 minutes. That's no complaint, just a question to be sure that all works as it should. And the result after the export (the mp4-file) is once more completely satisfying.

And still one more question:
Clicking File --> Clear Recent Files obviously removes these files.
Does this mean that they are completely deleted? If yes, there should be at least an additional security warning like "Are you sure that your want to remove forever the files?" If they are not completely deleted, please tell us where they are stored respectively how they can be opened again.
Thank you.
Sep 20 2017 at 10:05am Copy Link
Hatim User Thanks Visitor-2014, the titlebee hardsubbing option re-encodes your video in the same resolution and quality settings as your original video and will be as fast as your computer / graphics card allows it to be. My advice is to export a small part of the video (using bookmarks to select start and end) and if you're satisfied with the sample exported run it overnight to export the whole movie. Alternatively, render on a faster computer. Don't worry, clearing the most recent file list does not delete your movies, just the shortcuts. The BitsDuJour offer is a good deal and will save you a lot of time if you use titlebee to produce video for youtube, facebook or vimeo or just subtitle for your own video archive collection, so at 50% off its good value for money. Best wishes!
titlebee - Sep 20 2017 at 10:37am Copy Link
Visitor-2014 Thanks again, Hatim User.

Two features don't work for me (unless I did not handle them in the correct way):

1. The drag and drop of a movie into the window of titlebee. If I want to open a movie I have to do it via File ---> Open. (No important issue for me - just to mention it.)

2. That's more important: When writing subitles it seems that there is no automatic linebreak (after a certain number of characters typed). The consequence is that the line in the movie may become longer than the width of the movie. Of course it is possible to add the linebreak manually in the editor. But I thought it would work also automatically by changing the number for "Characters per line" under "Help" ---> "Preferences". The default is 45 (the minimum 10 and the maximum 100). But when changing the default number nothing changed in the right window (editor) with the subtitles (the lines remained the same) and the same applies to the display of the subtitles within the movie itself.
Sep 20 2017 at 2:09pm Copy Link
Hatim User HI again Visitor-2014, following the DPI fix your drag and drop issue is because you're logged in as a user account with normal permissions and your software is running with admin permissions. In Windows the permissions of your Windows login and the software has to be the same for drag and drop to work. The minimum setting only warns you in red when you exceed the length of the line and reminds you to manually enter the line break. titlebee doesn't break automatically you'll need to do that yourself taking into account sentence structure and reading speed. Hope that helps

David Volle Looking at your website I see that this license only allows 24 projects, what does this mean?
It sounds an awful lot like I could only create 24 videos without upgrading!
Sep 21 2017 at 6:15am Copy Link
Hatim User Thanks David, the silver license allows you to work on up to 24 videos before you'll need to upgrade. If you know you'll be working on more projects please take advantage of BitsDuJour's 50% offer on the unlimited gold version.
titlebee - Sep 21 2017 at 6:50am Copy Link
David Volle Wow, just got done chatting on the titlebee site.
If you buy this for 199.50 the software will shut down after your 24th project and you can no longer use it.
You have to buy gold or platinum to use it more than 24 times.
I was excited until I found this out. Now I think I'll look further for some other solution. I'm just not comfortable with a company that would license like this.
Sep 21 2017 at 6:52am Copy Link
Hatim User Hi David, we constantly take user feedback to improve titlebee and the last two updates were in July 2017 and December 2016. platinum includes lifetime upgrades, whereas gold includes 12-month free upgrades. As for the silver license its a good option for users who don't work with many projects (silver users typically only produce one or two movies a year). Based on your requirements, I recommend the gold or platinum versions which you can buy here on BDJ. However, I recommend you download and use the free bronze version first and I also recommend comparing to other subtitling packages listed here: and especially pricing of EZTitles and others.
titlebee - Sep 21 2017 at 7:26am Copy Link
Visitor-2014 Hello Hatim User. I would like to come back with some remarks (suggestions?) for your software. I was impressed by the concept of creating the subtitles with a timeline and when searching in the Internet I found a quite old software which uses the same method. It was freeware and is is not developed any longer since a couple of years. So I think I can speak about it without advertising a competing product. ;-) I would like to invite you to watch the video they still have on Youtube and perhaps to download and try it (you can still find it in the Internet). It is called "Kijio".

Surely it does not offer the variety of features that "titlebee" has (no possibility of exporting to hardsubbed movie files, no formatting of the subtitles etc.etc.). But the basic function seems to me to work even a little bit more userfriendly and comfortable than with "titlebee". More specifically:

- In "titlebee" you have timeline and editor panel (where the subtitles are typed) on the *right* side of the player. "Kijio" has it *under* the player. I think this is by far better because so the user can type the subtitles and watch the result (= the display in the movie) more or less at the same time (with a short movement of the eyes). When using "titlebee" I have to move quite a lot the eyes (and perhaps even the head) if I want to compare the text in the editor and the display of the subtitles in the movie. Moreover the change from a vertical way of looking, typing and reading (in the editor) to a horizontal way (when watching the movie and the subtitles in the player) is additionally strenuous. In "Kijio" you have anything in horizontal fields/panels etc. and that's more comfortable.

- The creation of subtitles with "Kijio" seems to me to work even more smoothly than with "titlebee". For example: When I want to move back subtitle field B (towards the direction of the previous subtitle field A) the editor of "Kijio" warns me with the appearance of an exclamation mark as soon as B collides with A. With "titlebee" in the same situation A is only tacitly covered by B and I cannot see (or at least not easily) that there is such a collision.

That's what I remember of my short tests with "Kijio". Could you imagine that "titlebee" is being modified concerning such details?

Finally two remarks without connection to other software:

- In the help video on your website you say that starting and stopping a subtitle (field) works by pressing the keys "open square bracket" and "close square bracket". Obviously this depends on the type of keyboard that the user has. In my case it does not work. (No problem for me as anyway I prefer the method of doubleclicking, but I wanted to mention it.)

- Also on your website you write concerning Hardsubbing that "Export formats include MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV and FLV." I found only the option for MP4 (unless I have overseen something).
Sep 21 2017 at 4:11pm Copy Link
Hatim User Thankyou for your feedback as always Visitor-2014, we will review your suggestions for possible inclusion in future versions of titlebee. Please watch this space. If square brackets are not working please use the alternative / and * key combinations.
titlebee - Sep 21 2017 at 7:10pm Copy Link
Visitor-2014 Hi, Hatim User. Thanks for your advice with the alternative key combination.

Concerning the software I will continue to test it from time to time. But before deciding to buy it I will wait if possibly something like the above suggestions will be implemented in one of the future versions.

Thanks again for all your assistance. Maybe that at some other time we will meet again here at BitsDuJour.

Alexander Deliyannis Hi, thanks for this offer! A couple of quick questions:
(1) From the screenshots I assume titlebee supports Unicode; correct?
(2) Can it link to Youtube to edit subtitles already online?
(3) If not, can it work with videos downloaded from Youtube in .MKV format?
(4) Can it import and export .SRT files?
Nov 13 2018 at 3:43am Copy Link
Hatim User Hi Alexander,
1) Yes absolutely it supports all languages including complex scripts such as Arabic and Chinese. You could have multiple languages side by side for easy comparison and spell-checking.
2) No, you'll need to use a third party downloader to download the video and captions from YouTube, work on it locally then upload the finished captions. Or alternatively, you can hardcode the titles onto your video with many styles and animations in titlebee and upload the new video.
3) Yes it can open all media containers and most popular codecs including MKV, MP4, MPG, FLV, WMV, AVI. It can also export in these formats.
4) Yes, you can import and export SRT and many other formats such as EBU-STL, SCC etc

Hatim User Hi Alexander, yes the installer is for all versions. Just drag and drop your SRT into your movie or go to Track > Edit Tracklist (Ctrl+T) then "Import".

License at User I'm trying to purchase for my company, but's VAT number validation is not working, so we are being charged VAT which should not happen. I'll try later, but if this doesn't work we won't be doing the purchase.

Hatim User Thanks License, we hope to have you on board soon. Please contact 2checkout here to resolve the issue. If the VAT number is still not recognized we do issue you with a VAT invoice so you can redeem it with your other VAT purchases.

License at User Thanks Hatim, I contacted 2checkout. My request was auto-acknowledged but, after more than 24h, I have received no reply and the issue has not been resolved. Unfortunately redeeming VAT from abroad is a complex procedure and only partially successful, so we will have to skip this offer. I'll try once again in a few hours in case it has been solved.
