What are people saying about Total Screen Recorder Gold Version

J K The product's website is difficult to understand. Like:

"Fast. Never lag your computer. When many people using it, they all agree that it doesn't any lag. Computer is funning fast while it is working."

What does this mean? If it means that the app does not hog resources, then why does the FAQ state: "And please close other applications that takes resources during recording."

It appears that there is no "Support" area on the website, only a "Contact Us."
Appears to be a pretty rough, unfinished software.
I will have to pass on this one.

Stefan Hauber Because I already have some recording tools, which do not do this, I would like to ask about some probably more advanced features:

(1) Is it possible to capture more than one window concurrently (or to run your program on the same computer in more than one instance)?

(2) When capturing a window, is it possible to minimize it or set it in the background and make ScreenRecorder capture it nevertheless. Having Win7 for few weeks now, when you move the mouse on an icon on the taskbar switching tasks by ei clicking in the toolbar a little preview window appears, which shows the appropriate windows miniaturized, but with movement in there, even if these windows are not in the foreground. So I thought, if they can do it, a windows-recording software should be able to do it too...

(3) Does your software make a difference between windows, which do refresh often and some which don't? When, e.g. recording a screen-cam, which refreshs only once a second the resulting files should be quite small, shouldn't they?Because I already have some recording tools, which do not do this, I would like to ask about some probably more advanced features:

(1) Is it possible to capture more than one window concurrently (or to run your program on the same computer in more than one instance)?

(2) When capturing a window, is it possible to minimize it or set it in the background and make ScreenRecorder capture it nevertheless. Having Win7 for few weeks now, when you switching tasks bei clicking in the toolbar

(3) Do your software makes a difference between regions which do not refresh quite often? So the resulting size for a 1Minute video should be quite different for the recording of a game and a webcam, which refreshes e.g. only 2 times a second, correct? Do you optimize this by comparing the current frame with the previous one?

(4) When capturing a certain window, is it possible (under Win7) to get only the sound, which is related to this window?

Thanks a lot in advance...

Jacky Tsao Hi All,
And thanks for Stefan's questions. You are quite a careful user.
To your questions:
1. TSR do not support record more than one active window, but we suggest you selecting the full screen region recording option in the software, so it will record all the areas (windows) on your desktop.

2. No. The software do not capture the windows your selected if you minimize the windows, it only still capture the area which the windows located before minimized.

3. You can adjust the recording video quality, such as frames per second, recording video formats, etc.

4. The software could recording sounds from microphone or computer sound card voice. But it is not possible to recording sound from specified windows (programs) only.

BTW, you could download the software for 14 days free try, the free version is total the same with the full version in the trial period.

Thanks.

Ryan Smyth Just bought a copy and uploaded a test video here: http://www.youtube.com/wa...3H3jgeC0cI http://www.youtube.com/wa...3H3jgeC0cI Drop dead simple to use, but you have to fiddle with the encoder settings to get the kind of quality you want. That's normal though and fully expected. Not sure if it's possible to use the Techsmith codec with it (new box and need to install a lot more of my toolset on here), but if you can, then this is the perfect little utility to quickly record things. There are no editing features, so that's one thing to keep in mind. But it isn't hundreds of dollars either. Seriously, for less than $10, this is a no-brainer.

Randy Martin I have an MP3 audio file I want to use as the music for an eventual video.

I have created a Prezi I want to use for the video in that same video.

I want to put the audio into a final file, then play that file so I can hear it and AT THE SAME TIME, record the Prezi (that I will be manually activating to the music tempo) and have the final product be a YouTube playable video.

Can I do this with TSR?

Michael K Under the "Policy" tab it states:

"Product purchase allows use for 24 months.........Support for life. "

Something does not seems correct here.... either, the use is for 'life" and not 24 months, or the support is for 24 months and not for life.

Can the someone please clarify the position as I would not be comfortable making the purchase on the basis of the software only working for 24 months and then expiring.

Michael K Hi Jacky, Thanks for the response and I'm glad to see the revised policy clarification that allows lifetime use of the software and not 24 months as originally stated.

I already have 2 other screen capture programs so do I need another I ask myself? Well, it seems I do because I like the scheduled and timed recording feature of your program that my others don't have.

A couple of points I'd like to mention though: I downloaded your trial yesterday and it worked well in a test except although I had it set for "blink when recording" I could not see any 'blinking" frame or any other sign that told me it was actually recording. I had it set to capture the FULL screen, so how should I have been able to tell the recording was active, paused or stopped?

Also, the timed recording is a great feature which makes it very likely I will buy the software. What would also be useful is if I could take timed screen shots over a set period of time - for example - "take a screen shot every 1 or 5 minutes or other various pre-set time intervals between scheduled times.

So could it take a screen shot say every 1 or 5 or 15, or 60 minutes between the hours of say midnight and 7 am and to have it play back as a single time lapse movie. - Would this be possible now or in the near future ? Thanks.

Jacky Tsao Hi Michael, Different programs have different features :) Total Screen Recorder is a video tool could only record video, it could not take snapshot (picture). The option of "blink when recording" means when the software is recording, the record area is visible, but it do not suit for the full screen recording. To check if it is recording in full screen, you could see toolbar icon, if it is blinking with red point, it is recording; if it shows the sign "II", it is paused; if it shows nothing, it is stopped.

To folk, if you have problem when using Total Screen Recorder, please check this FAQ page to find answers - http://www.totalscreenrec...m/faq.html

If Total Screen Recorder does not work well in your Windows 7/Vista, this is probably due to wrong settings. Please visit this page to reset your setting in Windows 7/Vista.

K X I've tried the demo and I was able to easily screen record a streaming video (with audio) which I had trouble recording with some other programs.

My first try came out lower-res than I would prefer. I used the default options initially. I've played around with turning off the video compressor, and was able to capture full screen resolution, which was my goal. However, the file size was so big that I'll need to go back to one of the compressed settings.

Like Michael K, I already have two or more other screen capture/recording programs, but this worked better than any of the others in one specific situation, so I will pick it up at the sale price.

For screenshots, I've been using SnagIt daily for years.

Jacky Tsao @Catherine, Total Screen Recorder is not a professional recorder for games. It is designed to record your PC screen. It could also record some games if your computer is faster enough. Norma Monteza I've been looking for a program like this for a long time! I need this for training purposes at work and it turns out it is unusable. It tells me I need to turn off Hardware Acceleration, but it is not possible because they don't give us that capability here (the buttons to turn it off are grayed out). Any way around this? Cheryl Rutherford I am a bit disappointed in your software and I just bought a few hours ago and then tried it. I should have tried it first before I bought it. I have Windows 7 64-bit with an nVidia GeForce GT Card.

There is no way to stop the hardware acceleration because nVidia grays out that option in the Display Advanced Troubleshooting area. I did however, find 3D Acceleration settings and turned them off and it did record (I use VLC for playback) BUT the playback was slow with splits screens that you see transition to full screen.

Now maybe I am doing something wrong, but I don't think so. It seems when you record over 5 minutes, the problems begin.
Is there a GUIDE on your site or should I call your Support, or is your Support on your site? Truly I have used better screen capture software. Maybe you should place a HARDWARE ACCELERATION option within your OPTIONS in your software. nVidia has to use it for some reason. I think SO FAR, out of 5 stars, I will have to give you 2 stars on this one ONLY because it is really easy to use and is probably more for tutorial making and so forth. It really does not capture online video that well, at least not for more than 5 minutes. ANY ADVICE?

DroidLuvr I am also having an issue with the hardware acceleration feature - no option to turn off. When I tried to record with TSR Windows set itself to "basic" mode (automatically when I started recording...).

It did record, but the quality was lousy, and since the mentions of the "free" CamStudio, I can't find the benefit to buying this software -- which hasn't been updated in over two years :(

I was looking forward to this software but after using the trial, I just don't see it working very well with my Windows 7 64-bit - seems a little "behind the times" to me...

Catherine McClarey C. Irwin Hopaluk - I currently use Bandicam for my gaming, which can handle both older & newer games. and can record up to 720p HQ. I sprang for the paid version (which runs $39, more than this BitDuJour); however, if you're OK with short recordings, the free version can record up to 10 minutes at a time (and can automatically start a new recording when the first one ends - so you could create YouTube episodes as long as you want, using YouTube's video editor to combine the 10-minute chunks). I haven't tried taking snapshots of my game screen with it yet, although I've seen 1 tab specifically for settings for screenshots in Bandicam.

(2)make sure you installed the compatible driver version because some driver is for Win XP, but some for Vista or 7. After you do the (1) and (2), the button still grayed off. Please ignore the warning message and start a recording to see if it work. Because quite a few of users also reported that they could still make a recording if do not turn off the HA. Then after you try everything you could not start a recording. We are pleased to offer you a full refund. Please send email to recorder#godsw.com with the title of "Refund BDJ Order" with a snapshot of the hardware acceleration turn off button grayed out.

John H This is a great program that I purchased during the last offer.
The interface is especially nice compared to open source solutions and some of the more complex paid for solutions.

One thing that TSR could do is post a chart showing which formats and settings we should record in if we have a slow computer. Or which formats and settings to use if recording a video clip and want the best possible recording.

All the Format options are of little use if we have no idea of which situation to use them in. It took me hours of trial and error.

It appears that Lenovo and Microsoft locked out my ability to change Hardware Acceleration but it still records fine. I have never tried recording copyrighted streams such as Netflix so your mileage may vary.

The killer for me is that Lenovo and MS locked out my ability to record from my sound card. I tried everything. I am setting up an older IBM running XP that is not crippled so I can work on my own audio and video files.
