Ken Carlino Unfortunately virus scanners are often too aggressive in their protection and report false positives.

You can submit the file in question to the virustotal.com website to have it checked against most known virus scanners.

Once you are happy that the file on your system is OK you can adjust your virus scanner to accept it.

Additionally as a user of the anti-virus software you can submit your findings to the company as a false position so they can make corrections to their software or virus definitions.

Arturas Molcanovas Ken, I don't know how virus total is now, but the last time I used it, the thing was using heavily outdated versions of the virus scanners.

Ken Carlino Hi Arturas, it looks like it is current. Most scanners were updated on Sept 1, 2012 with a couple last updated on Aug. 31, 2012. It has always looked up to date when I have used the service.

Also note the TwistedBrush Pro Studio 17 installation package has been in use for 2 years with no changes.

Thanks,
Ken Carlino

Sep 3 2012 at 5:23pm Copy Link

Ken Carlino Good question, but it really depends on what's important to you as a user. Version 18 added 235 additions, improvements and fixes, so far version 19 has added 125. The full revision history is available here

http://help.pixarra.com/s...ionHistory

That said version 17 is wonderfully full featured already.

Morten Hjollo I'm quite dissappointed that TwistedBrush Pro Studio 17 is not compatible with Windows 7. When I start the program Windows pop up with the messge that this program is not compatible with Win7 and sets Windows 7 Home back to Windows 7 Basic. It's quite dull....

Morten Hjollo I have Win7 64Bit Norwegian, and I've tried re installing, compability modus and so on. Still don't work with all graphic features of Win7. I also found out after uninstalling that this program leaves behind a lot of crap in the registry that I manually had to delete. In the program folder there was a lot of new folders and so on. Malwarebytes pro also came up with a warning. To me this program also looks like something from early XP days. Sorry, but this was not a good experience for me. Thanx anyway.

ron r I also have malwarebytes (pro version) and Microsoft Security Essentials. I had no false-positives.
I can't comment on the un-install traces, maybe it's not 100% clean.

On a side note: I use cameyo to create portable apps which creates portable versions which do not interact with the OS-system files.
Or sometimes I move/copy the installation of a program to a seperate partition then I uninstall the program and test if the copied version works. If it works I can avoid the installer and possibly avoid some system "contamination" which comes when using the installer.

carl thorpe I have used and thoroughly enjoyed the free versions of Twisted Brush for years. Thanks for offering this Pro version for free. I am a bit of a painting program addict, and this is certainly a nice addition to the other programs I already have.

The number of brushes is astounding. While a lot of them are gimmicky, there are a lot in there that allow for some "real media" work. Be sure to check out the "working with brushes" section of the quick start guide to learn how to access them all.

The interface is very strange and could definitely stand to be updated to a more modern look. This can make it hard to work with the program, so you will likely need to refer to the quick start guide quite a bit until you figure out the quirks of the interface.

Also, as noted by others, the program forces Windows 7 into "basic" mode. I am on a i5-2320 3.00GHz machine with 8GB of RAM and a Radeon HD 5770 video card with 1GB of video memory, and some of the fancier brushes lag considerably. While that is surprising, those brushes aren't ones that I would likely use all that much so I am not too bothered by it.

Are you offering any discounted upgrade path to the newest version for those of us who take advantage of this free offer?

P C It's not compatible with Windows Vista Aero. Windows automatically downgrades to Windows Vista Basic when TwistedBrush Pro Studio 17 starts. A bit disappointed. Is there any workaround to solve the problem?
Sep 5 2012 at 5:23am Copy Link
0
Ken Carlino As stated TwistedBrush Pro Studio is compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Vista. Some features that were used in version 17 results in Windows temporarily disabling Aero visual themes. This does not effect the functionality of TwistedBrush Pro Studio. Yes later versions of TwistedBrush Pro Studio do not result in Windows turning off Aero themes.

Morten Hjollo As P C mentions above the program seems not to be compatible with Windows Aero, as I mentioned before (I have Win 7 64Bit). I am therefore (luckily...) not the only person that have this problem. I also wonder how I can move the installation to another location as there are numerous folders and files created in my program folder during installation. I can't remember the names but it was very difficult to figure out what files and folder that belong to TwistedBrush. It not only creates its own folder, but creates different files outside its own installation folder. How come? This is time consuming and there are free altrenatives out there. Maybe not as good as this program, but they don't mess up this much.

Ken Carlino Hi Morten, sorry to hear your experience was not great. The registry entries are only related to the license so that you can uninstall and install without needing to reenter the license each time.

Please see my early response I wrote regarding anti-virus software.

As for the interface style, we have placed priority on paint functionally and the functionally of the interface rather then the style. Interface styles are just that, styles and will appeal to some and not to others therefore we have choose not to change interface style just for the purpose of style. Not an uncommon choice for smaller software vendors when it comes to larger software products.

Ken Carlino Morten, a follow-up to your second comment. You can install to a new location if you like. You are not required to install to any specific location. Manually attempting to copy the installation from one Program folder to another isn't recommended, and I personally would not recommend that approach for any program installation.

Preston Mitchell Ken -- Is Upgrade Price to v19 Available?

Can I install v17 from Bits today...and then upgrade to v19 using the upgrade price offered at your website?

I installed v17 on XP Pro SP3 x32. It works great on XP!

TwistedBrush is impressive.

I would say it is a good alternative to onOne Perfect Photo Suite v5.5 or the Topaz's series of Fx effects software (which are the well-known titles in your software category).

HOWEVER, based on reports of other commenters, I am scared to install on the W7 x64 side of my dual OS PC.

In fact, I will NOT install v17 in W7! I don't care to take chances with my production PC. So...in light of W7 compatibility issues, YOU SHOULD MAKE THE UPGRADE PRICE TO v19 AVAILABLE!

Thank you for introducing us to TB via a free copy of OLD v17.

carl thorpe The incompatibility with Aero is not going to cause any problem with your computer.

All it does is disable the glass effect that Windows Vista and above has.

As soon as you exit the program, the Aero theme re-enables.

Don't let that stop you from using this program.
Sep 5 2012 at 7:44am Copy Link

Ken Carlino Hi Preston,

Yes upgrade to version 19 will be available. Information will be emailed within a day or two. If you would like the information sooner please email me at kcarlinopixarra.com

The only limitation of TwistedBrush Pro Studio on Windows 7 is the expected, controlled and normal disabling of Aero when TwistedBrush states. This is controlled by Windows and part of the OS. Aero is returned when TwistedBrush exits. That said version 19 of TwistedBrush does not have this result.

Little Bear Sorry, but I refuse to use a program that turns off the Aero while running another program. This behavior led to the crash of other programs in the system tray, while the developer claims the functionality of the program is not hurt, the functionality of my computer is. Passing this up.

I would have gladly taken a lighter version of this program for free for the latest version which does not turn off the Aero on the computer.

SHAME SHAME. This program had potential but as I said, turning off the Aero is not acceptable by today's programming standards.

Gina Anderson I downloaded from the purchase page as well, and my key will not work either. I used the info from the email, copy and paste. It says it's invalid. I guess I have to uninstall and redownload from the email? Previous offers work from the purchase page, so it's not unusual to do it this way.

When I installed the download from the purchase site, I had a glitch. I have Win7 64bit, I got a message that the program did not install correctly, and I had the choice to re-install with recommended settings so I did. It does turn off aero, and though I appreciate the offer, I'm a bit miffed that such an old version was released as the freebie. I am not familiar at all with the program, I downloaded because I was curious. I hope the upgrade price is fabulous, or I may uninstall, depending on if I really like it or not. It's annoying to crash other programs while trying the program and messing with my interface. I don't like having old, run-in-compatibility mode software on Win7 :( Especially when I have to uninstall and reinstall the program to get the key to work. :P

Most of the give aways e-mails do not have a
working user name that is valid. Twisted Brush registered name
does not work in the user name to register. The program cannot be activated without a working user name. Most generate a name with a registered name with e-mail address. There is no user name that is valid in the user name to register it.

Watcher1924 @Nico Westerdale,

a) is the download from BitsDuJour purchase receipt e-mail always the same as the one we get after the checkout?

b) I think there has been at least one time that the download file was specially made for BDJ and the keycode wouldn't work with the original file from the developer's site. When that is case do we always get to see some info about it in the policy tab?

Jan Brinksma Nico, it still doesn't work, i had feedback with pixarra too and they could not help me either. I could not even paste the key, not even in the safe mode. Oke, Pixarra mailed me 3, 4 times for support and that was very polite what Ken did for me. Today my computer was not in the mood and he centainly had not his day. But why crying, tomorrow comes yet another fine day. regards Jan.

Nico Westerdale Watcher,

a) The download url in the purchase page is the same as the one in the receipt email.

b) As we're getting such huge volume (almost a million dollars worth of free software given away today) we're now hosting the installers, this is to stop the developers sites from slowing to a crawl, which we've had issues with in the past. This is not a special build, we just copy the installer to our server before the promotion, and unless stated otherwise, that's what you can expect with these 100% Off promotions.

Miroir Deco Eventually I installed and activated TwistedBrush Pro Studio 1728 without any problem, even if ZoneAlarm said there is a Malicious software iniside the BitsDuJour version and that I have to remove it from my PC.

The problem was not a virus nor a malware, but simply because something in the application is asking my Windows 7 64Bit to turn off Aero visual themes when (and only while) I'm running another program.

Also, as soon as I exit the program, the Aero theme re-enables as usual, and everything else is working as before without any problem.

h warriner Hi folks, I've a problem. When I try to run TB, I get a message that it can not open a "log.txt" file, in the Twistedbrush folder. I've re-installed the program, didn't help. I tried to write a log.txt file in the Twistedbrush folder; it wouldn't let me write the text file.

I am running Vista for Business on a Dell Latitude 830.

I was able to install and run Twisted brush on my friend's Dell Latitude 830, but it was/is running Windows 7.

I need help.

Preston Mitchell Ken -- Ready to Buy v19 for Upgrade Price!

I installed evaluation version 19 in Windows 7 x64. It works perfectly. None of v17's issues happened in W7. HOWEVER, aside from not going to XP to use TB, I see very little difference between my user experience from v17 to v19. Both versions are great.

I tried buying the Upgrade license for v19 at your website. But the cart inserted the FULL price for v19.

Honestly, I rather stick with v17 than pay full price for v19. But it would be nice to use TB in W7. Please consider offering the Upgrade Price to Bits users who installed v17.

Thank you,
Preston Mitchell

h warriner Your reply:

"Ken Carlino h warriner, It sounds like either the file is opened in another program or you don't have privileges to write to that location."

Caused me to try TB with 'Run as Administrator'. It worked. This quirk - and I believe it to be a Vista problem - seems strange as the installation was installed with 'Run as Administrator,' too, and that should have cleared any 'privilege' problem in the beginning.

Is there a 'marker or key' on the Twistedbrush folder that I can change to allow all Users access?

Thanks for your insight.... hw

Preston Mitchell Ken -- Thank You for Upgrade Price for v19

I must report that v19 works great in W7 x64. It even works from inside a Sandboxie sandbox.

I tested v19 first inside a sandbox before doing a real install in W7...and v19 performed like a champ....not a single issue. So, it is time for the real install.

TB v19 is totally awesome software.

Free Ride There were so many new versions after 17.x released, i already have 17.28 from an earlier BDJ-promotion (09/2012) and therefor will pass, i mean 17.28 is from 02/2011, now we have 2013, every old (or outdated) software you install on your computer can be a extra security risk and that being said, a more improved version that represents at least parts of the newest builds wouldn't hurt, maybe with some features reduced? So many fixes, changes and improvements have been made, we speak from 38 version numbers difference compared to the newest build, that is - regarding softwares - a quantum jump in all directions. I look forward to see maybe a v18 in the future that may make it into promotion, with some of the new features, improvements and changes, like e.g. the color scheme issue of Windows. And for the version numbers, i hope you Ken will see it as a compliment. :D

H. H. As registered customer since Version 2.3 I highly can recommend this Software especially for creative painting,... The more Pixarra TwistedBrush has been developed the less I used Corel Painter and Photoshop for creative painting techniques, TwistedBrush is much more versatile with all the inbuilt brushes. It also has lots of Image editing features (filters,...) and also allows many other creative Image "compositions" (you may look at the user Gallery)

People should not be disappointed that it is "only" Version 17.28 which is offered for free. Even that Version has great capabilities, you propably won´t find in other graphic Software. My personal advice: Grab the free Version 17.28 at bdj, and if you like it - support the developer by purchasing the latest Version - I didn´t find any other Commercial graphic Software with such a good value for money
To my opinion - regarding the great possibilities of the software - TwistedBrush has a very moderate price and fair license policy, and a developer being in close touch with the users (forum, many features requested have been integrated over the time)
For easier "discovering" ot the great capabilities looking at the tutorials and Video introduction is recoommended since the user Interface may seem a little uncommon at the first glance.

Jul 26 2013 at 4:32pm Copy Link

Ken Carlino @Jann - In this kind of situation it commonly is some other program preventing the normal start of TwistedBrush. Virus scanner, registry protector and desktop replacements are common culprits. You can try to start Windows in Safe Mode to see if that works. If it does, then you can narrow things down from there.

Jann Martin Yes, I tried that as well. Also still working on the safe mode narrowing down what could be causing it. No luck yet.

JMJ Squared Jann - This offer installed fine on my Window 8 64-bit machine WITH security software enabled. May I suggest that you uninstall TwistedBrush, reboot and reinstall from the Admin Account you're now using AND when running the installer, RIGHT CLICK and choose RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. Temporarily disabling all security software can't hurt.

It may also help to check System Files' integrity before doing the above, by opening an elevated Command Prompt and typing: sfc /scannow and the clicking ENTER. It will take a few minutes to complete, perhaps 30 - 60 minutes. Reboot and proceed as above.

Good luck.

JMJ Squared Sorry to hear that, Jann. One last longshot may be to run TwistedBrush in Compatibility Mode until you get to the source of the problem. Did I mention this program is awesome?
The cloning tut posted at the top of this comments section is a very good example of just one thing you can do once you learn to navigate this software. Just the ability to quickly turn on/off a trace image (shown at about 3 minutes into the above referenced tut) opens up a world of possibilities.

Quill Pen @Kassidy - I'd submit a new order before you miss out!
Bits' email acknowledgment arrived before I opened my email inbox.
The subject line is:
BitsDuJour Software Receipt - TwistedBrush Pro Studio 17
It provided both the download link (blue text)
and
the Registration Information in a yellow box just below the download link.
Just copy/paste that key to the hidden registration pop up (found at the bottom of FILE > ENTER LICENSE KEY rather than on the HELP menu)
I did discover that installing this version even to a separate directory overwrites the registration for the version offered earlier this year by another great freebie site - giveawayoftheday.com - and while I would have preferred that NOT happening just in case something went awry, c'est la free.
One thing I think is particularly ANNOYING is that the license key is not retained or at least is not displayed if you go back and open that "enter license key" tab again. It's not there(!!) so how the heck are we supposed to know if it's still a licensed copy? I feel obliged to enter it again, and again and again. That's almost as annoying and worrisome as GOTD's bizarre and often ephemeral security wrapper. Yes, I know Help/About shows it's licensed. So remove the license tab, don't erase the key!

Marie atoz Thank you for extending another day. I have this from giveaway and the kids use it to learn.

I am trying to find a reasonable priced Win 7 pro full retail (not oem etc) to install becuase I still have XP. I have been looking for long time but once I do - I will lose alot of the apps I have for the kids as well as for rest of family.

So I am very pleased to be able to get TwistedBrush for free today. I will be able to re-install to my pc again when I need to.

Looks good, wow it looks like real paint!

Marie atoz Oh, I do not have a problem with this fantastic program. I was only saying we have it and have been using it (from Giveaway day site). Yet once I purchase Windows 7 pro - most of everything I have now - will have to be RE-installed - thus many programs we have will not be able to redo. I will be able to install TwistedBrush once OS is changed using this free offer.

rodken I use Photoshop almost everyday!
If you are looking for a Graphic software that is of the highest quality and don't need the newer tools that PS offers then get this now! or better yet buy their Ver 19 because this is great software at possibly the best price! Corel is great too but doesn't offer the default brushes TB does (unless you spend the time creating them)!
If you are into Graphic Design then you should already have PS, Corel GS and THIS (Twisted Brush) because they are all very useful at times in their own way and the latter is so cheap and of such high quality it would be a disgrace to not buy it (or at least try this one out)!

Anyways great giveaway! Version 17 is still of high quality, and is amazing to get for free!

James K @Marie atoz

The difference between this place and GOTD is that GOTD is giving away the software, and uses it's own installer that is only good for 1 day. Meaning if you want or need to reinstall it, tough nuggies.

BDJ on the other hand is SELLING you a product for $0, and gives you registration codes. Meaning that you should be able to install it as many times as you need to. As long as the developer doesn't limit the number of installs 1 license can have.

So, for instance, my Windows computer is having some problems, but I wanted this product anyway. So I downloaded it onto my Linux box until I have my W7 computer straightened out. I don't expect to have any trouble installing it.

I cannot even attempt this sort of thing with GOTD software, as the first thing it checks is the date!
Jul 28 2013 at 3:48pm Copy Link

Marie atoz Thank you James K for explaining more on GOTD & BDJ apps. We are thrilled the developer & BDJ extended the free download for TB as I was not able to be online to get it the 1st day. Now we will be able to cont to enjoy TB even when we change our OS.

JMJ Squared @James K @Marie atoz - The information you are discussing is NOT accurate. While some BitsDuJour offerings, indeed, are not install-time limited, many others are. A quick glance through my records indicate some offers must be installed the same day of the free offer, while other install windows vary from 3 days to 30 days; e.g., AtomicAlarm Clock, Debenu PDF, Kryptel Standard.
Jul 28 2013 at 5:19pm Copy Link
0
James K @JMJ^2, I did not know that. I've never run into that sort of limitation here, though I've been visiting for less than a year, and have been downloading much less than 100% of even the free stuff, so what you say is very possible.

THIS offering, though, should NOT pose any problems with late installation, as under "The Fine Print" it says the following:

+ Each license allows installation on 2 computers, but TwistedBrush Pro Studio 17 may not be used at exactly the same time on each of them.

+ Transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed.

+ You can install/register the software at any time.

So as long as you don't install it on more than 2 computers at a time, you should not have any issues with "late" installs.

Roger Thomasson @ James, JMJ

Restrictions like this are rare and ONLY at the publisher's insistence. We figure that install time-limitations are better than no software at all.

Regardless, this is not the place to discuss for obvious reasons - TwistedBrush has no such limitations.

Yes, we always recommend a careful perusal of the fine print before purchasing. The vast majority of our deals carry no special restrictions, but occasionally there will be an install time-limitation if a publisher insists. Note that this is for our 100% deals only - our regular 24-hour discount deals NEVER carry extra restrictions of any kind.

JMJ Squared It seems that one of my comments that actually made it through the censors has caused a bit of consternation. That comment in response to JAMES K was not meant to cast aspersions on BitsDuJour or anyone else; rather it was intended to prevent a fellow Bitster from assuming that ALL software presented here could be installed and/or re-installed at any time, which, simply, is not true.

Specifically, JAMES K mentioned that he intended to install today's offering on a Windows machine after he rebuilt it. While the TwistedBrush Pro Studio 17 offered today has no installation time limit, other software offered here does. The categorical comment JAMES K made to MARIE ATOZ would lead her mistakenly to believe that ALL BitsDuJOur offerings are the same. She said so herself.

Ken Carlino, developer of TwistedBrush, is about as non-restrictive, user friendly and customer-centric as you can get. Even a cursory visit to his website and forums will confirm that. Of course, not all developers are the same nor are they required to be.

BitsDuJour is a good site that I frequent and appreciate. The fact I shared does not diminish those equally true facts.

I hope this comment makes it past the censors.

No worries! Your original comment was on point - we don't want our customers to miss out on great software simply because they were unaware of install time-restrictions.

We just want to make sure people understand that it's actually a relatively rare thing :)

All good!

Quill Pen NOTE: The software description hasn't been updated. You're getting V18.18, not V17. As I recall, that upgrade containeds a huge set of new brushes. .

Ken Carlino's very generous to offer this again. I got this version over a year ago... hard to believe time's flown by so fast. For anyone who isn't familiar with TwistedBrush, THIS is one of the premier outstanding art packages for novices or professionals alike. Anyone who wants to show off their creativity with anything from digital doodling to awesome works of art.

You get an infinite number of truly unique brushstrokes (5000 brushes, but there are more settings options than on a nuclear electric generating station console) that are great for adding pizazz to a digital scrapbook, web sites or to create unique marketable artwork on printed products at Zazzle/Cafe Press or other types of digital art (, this should be in your toolkit.

The one caveat is that the GUI is NOT terribly easy to navigate, but that's because it has so many fricken options you tend to get lost unless you use it early and often. Be sure to have the online forums bookmarked so the more experienced users can help ya. I have to go ask a couple questions I've been putting off myself.

Pixarra offers very generous discount. If I buy TwistedBrush using this option, Lifetime Licence is only $114.

But If I buy v21.02 and lifetiem licence seperately, it's almost $130($38+$89).

The only downside is the learning curve, it can be steap. But again the same goes for PS, and any other tool of this kind.

lemonade soda Great tool. Question about v21. Is it multithreaded/multicore optimised? I'm using v18.18 and noticed it was a bit laggy on my octo-core 2xE5472s. Pulled up taskmanager and saw only one thread/one core was being used 100%. Does the new version improve on this?

Larry Elliott Ya know this is an older version (the free one v.18.18) but if your a regular bitster you know that they have this offer for this program at least twice a year and you can keep upgrading everytime they offer it. What operations are you doing where you are seeing less processor utilization?
Pixarra - Feb 9 2015 at 12:11pm Copy Link

lemonade soda @Ken, I was just painting with the water colour brush (large) and the movement was a little jumpy/laggy. Task Manager showed that one core was at 100%, while the other 7 cores were not being used. I can assume then that in v18.18 painting is a single threaded operation, but was wondering if there had been improvements. Thanks for the link to revision history. I see "19.05 Improved - Significant performance improvements for all brushes larger than around 40 pixels in size on multi-processor and multi-core systems. Very large brushes are over 2x as fast!!!" Perhaps on an 8 core system, improvements are even higher than 2x, then this is great. I will download the v21 trial and compare.

Jay Softer VirusTotal shows that the downloaded file contains 2 pieces of malware, one of which is a trojan.
Therefore I am not going to install this software no matter how good it is.

I only install programs that pass VirusTotal scan with a 100% clean record.

Some might say that these two pieces of malware discovered by VirusTotal could be false positives, but I challenge you to prove it.

You can never exclude the possibility of some scanners being more sophisticated and doing a better job of catching hidden malware than others. This can be exactly the case here.

It would be much appreciated if the Developer could address the issue of malware found in the setup file.

Thank you in advance.

Quill Pen I'll say what I say each time Ken is generous enough to GIVE us a free upgrade... THANK YOU!!!

This is one of the best art packages for an artistic toolbox, it is definitely NOT "overpriced" nor is it's GUI "out of date." Jeez, Peter, look many gift horses in the mouth? The tracing feature plus thousands of bundled brushes and drawing tablet compatibility are worth what Pixarra asks. If you haven't read the downloadable User Guide cover to cover, you have no idea how much is hidden behind the curtain. That may be the main problem... it DOES have a big learning curve, but then so does the free GIMP and the ransom-priced Photoshop.

If I had two wishes, I'd wish that:
1- installing an upgrade did NOT destroy the old version and key. No excuse for that. Too many times, installs go borky and then you're left with NO version. grrrrrrr
2- like sakis asked, there was an option for enlarging buttons and text and icons for the brushes for those of us on high-rez wide screen monitors. Old eyes and microscopic things don't work well together.

Quill Pen Jeez, asselin jacqueline, this is NOT a scam. Read this forum history that goes back several years.... many people besides me love this software which we only have thanks to Pixarra and Bits.

From what I've seen over the past couple years, Bits is totally legit -- although I'd recommend using a throwaway email addie cause certain vendors clearly sell the email used to spam harvesters that trash an email addie - I speak from experience. Someone with time should conduct an experiment. Register as a buyer of each software offer using a different disposable email, e.g., email-1@, email-2@, etc. and try to identify who the culprit is.

The problem with bad key errors can often be blamed on:
a) an individual who doesn't read and precisely follow all the instructions, hoops and hurdles "betwixt the cup and the lip" (there are way too many hoops to jump through) although Bits isn't as bad as another giveaway site with it's sucky security shell wrapped around each program that often self-destructs after a successful install;
or,
b) an particular PC using an anti-v with an overactive heuristic scanner, or other blockers or some other settings or software that conflict. Tracing those problems down usually can't be done by even the most helpful of vendor, such diagnostic work has to be done by the user and many either don't know how or find it takes longer than the 24-hour window to solve. This may be why this awesome offer is now on it's 3rd day, to help those experiencing difficult! Yay Pixarra!

H. H. @ bdj users
as a registered user since versoin 2.3 I really can highly recommend this marvellous piece of creative painting software. The developer has always been in close touch with the user community and implemented many features that had been requested over the years.
I´d recommend to support the development of this versatile program with buying it as the really great offer with the additional bdj-discount.
At this price TwistedBrush costs less than only 2 additional Brush-Sets (with only 15 brushes per set) for Corel Painter 2016

@Ken Carlino
thank you for constantly improving TBR
Regarding Pro-set Scribbler Brushes I´ve the following questionL:
Is there a possibility to create some scribbler brushes which are even more similiar to the sketchy-supersketchy, shaded, supershades, fur, superfur, web brushes of the free online sketch software supersketchy (http://super-sketchy.com/sketchy.html) or the chrome extension sketchpad 3.5 https://chrome.google.com...cjilhcgoim?

Quill Pen Thank you Pixarra for offering this two days in a row since our power failed and I so feared it might have borked my TwistedBrush install. It didn't, but how wonderful to see it still available since as we have learned and about the only thing I don't like about TwistedB is that it destroys the older version and older key (and sometimes certain older but still nice to have brush palettes I think) whether you want them destroyed or not.. I would have been devastated had the power returned and the software was not installed correctly.

Search engines are often your best friend. I'm not a techie but hate to see people miss out on TB, especially when they ask for help but fail to offer information about their system. It's pretty customary to include your OS and other specs so forthcoming help can be focused on your system. Questions about both NetGame and DirectPlay have been asked and answered for a variety of OS' so I hope you can walk through the steps others have already worked out.

@Mark - - while I encountered no difficulties installing this latest free version on our Win7 PC, I searched the Internet for your error and the NetGame error seems fairly common. Have you tried running it under compatibility mode? DirectPlay functionality is required for Win32DPNetGame, so this link may help -
http://msdn.microsoft.com...85%29.aspx

@Jack - - hubby and I have been taking advantage of Pixarra's generosity and awesome art package for years. Perhaps they have a small programming team because the software is always evolving and if something ain't broke, they don't always get around to "fixing" it so it uses the latest and greatest new stuff Microsoft's programmers dream up. Apparently, TB still calls on components listed as Legacy -

Right click on Start then -> Programs and Features -> Turn windows features on or off -> then scroll down to Legacy Components and expand and select DirectPlay ... [OK] and it is done.

The chatter on the web says something about "possible security Issues"? meh... :-/ ... Win10 doesn't flash any warnings at me in the process ...

Ken Carlino @Hillary you could try to start Wndows in Safe mode to see if you get the same error. Also you could re-download and install again with your virus scanner temporarily off in case it is interfering with the install.

A search on google reveals the message "This file contains invalid data. (error 21FC)" is pretty common. You might find a solution or more information that is unique to your situation in those search results.

H. H. @bdj users
I´m registered TwistedBrush User since version 2.3 and highly would recommend to take advantage of this great offer of an excellent
creative painting and image manipulating program. In comparison to corel painter it already has over 5000 inbuilt brushes and an innovative
brush enginge. With the great discount the program costs less than 2 particle brush packs for corel painter.
Even if I will suggest some additional features beneath - pixarra twistedbrush already is an excellent piece of creative painting software
It´s my favourite software although also owning corel painter, project dogwaffle ,... - you may also read former postings.

@Ken
TBR is an excellent software,
but during the last years there are less updates -probably because the software is already feature - rich and stable - so you may perhaps consider some feature suggestions:

1.There is one feature I really miss a lot since many years and I´ll ask if it can be implemented (I´ve no programming knowledge, but since very old and quite simple pieces of software already had been capapble of this I hope you will find a solution for that too):
that´s the possibility to use a freehand selection tool and instantly take this selection for painting (even with an irregular shape) as a new brush.
This would be a fine addition to the already implemented image-brush and clip-brushes feature. To get a similiar effect in TBR it seems to
be necessary to work with masks - which can interrupt intuitive creative workflow.
An example of a very simple software, which nevertheless has this feature is the freeware saint paint studio (http://www.saintpaint.com).
In the very old and simple freeware "ultimate paint" (http://www.ultimatepaint.com/) it´s possible to decide if one want to take the selection with or withour background.
There also is a possibility to change the shape of the picked-up image-brush by simply pulling the surrounding points in saint paint studio.
That feature combined with pressure sensitivity for brush - size and opacity would be great and make TBR even more versatile.
2 other programs which are capable of this are "project dogwaffle" and "tvpaint" (demo available at http://www.tvpaint.com) there are additional good features for using alpha, difference,.. for the brush colors.

2. Another feature that would be fine (although TBR already has the best brush-engine I know)
if there could additionally be something like corel painter had implemented in version 11 (unfortunately discontinued now):
that was a brush- randomizer and a brush-transposer. I think that the brush-transposer could be a good addition to the already excellent
randomizing brush-engine of TBR. Transposer meant that the program merged the 2 brushes in a new one - with many different steps, resulting in different brushes one could choose.

3. TBR already has the Pro-Scribblers - nevertheless the workflow and result for scribbler brushes like "sketchy-supersketchy, shaded, supershades, fur, superfur, web brushes"
in simple free online sketch software like supersketchy
(http://super-sketchy.com/sketchy.html) or the chrome extension sketchpad 3.5 (https://chrome.google.com...cjilhcgoim)
mr. doob harmony,... seems to be better sometimes.

It would be fine if you would consider to implement such features in the future.
In case the explanations are not clearly understandable please ask and tell me if I should post additional information (perhaps via email)

May these suggestions (especially no 1) find it´s way on your roadmap?

H.H.

Ken Carlino @ H.H. thank you for your support, comments and suggestions Regarding your first suggestion:

1. This is already possible without masks. Here is the very nice work flow to test this out.

* Select the Copy tool and enable the Lasso option.
* Now select the brush tool and a Pro Clip brush for example
* Press and hold the Q key (to dynamically select the Copy tool) and freehand draw your area you want to capture.
* Release the Q key and paint with your freehand captured brush.

You can repeat the last two steps as often as you want.

2. I may need a bit more information about this option. It is possible already to build brushes from smaller brush features. From the Brush Control dialog if you brush the Add Brush Controls button.

For even greater merging of brushes you may find limited value. The brushes in TwistedBrush are build using a brush effects system which is similar to a small programming language and therefore results of merging two complete brushes together will often not lead to expected results. However, perhaps I don't understand what you are requesting.

3. The scribble brushes aren't mentioned too often therefore it's hard to evaluate the demand for improvements there. But i will add your request to the queue for evaluation.

Thank you again for the suggestions!

H. H. Hallo Ken,
thank you very much for your explanations and apologize asking a feature that already is implemented,
1- but I really hadn´t figured it out. With your explanations I could take the selectons and use it as clipbrush with a good workflow
- no problem regarding size and opacity as well as rotating. But perhaps (if it is not already implemented) the ability to deform
the shape of the brush (like in saint paint and ultimate paint) by dragging surrounding moving points would be a further improvement.
Best would be the ability to freely (like a liquid) deform it - but the way the above software handles it (at least stretching, shearing,..)
already would be fine too.

2. Regarding brush-morphing: perhaps you can tell me where to post some information during the next week,
Nevertheless due the great possibilities of the brush-engine with randomizer in TBR I would not consider
that feature as the most urgent

3. Effects like sketchy, supersketchy, shaded, supershaded, fur, web (e.g. http://supersketchy.com) give nice results
like using charcoal and pastels horizontally or working with airbrush,... . (Best have a look there, the brushes can be
changed by clicking on the text "brushes" not the arrow)

Thank you for further development in advance
H.H.

Quill Pen Happy Dance! TwistedBrush is hands down one of the BEST (if not the best, especially FREE) tools a graphics artist of any level of talent can have in their toolbox and it consistently has been for years. I've recommended it to artists far more talented than I and every one (who didn't already own and love it, too) loved it once they got it. Every testimonial I've seen anywhere highly recommends it, and if you have any interest in spicing up your creations, THIS program is a must own. It's easy to use and impossible to run out of new designs (that is, coincidentally and IMHO, its only "problem"... no easy way of saving complex brush design parameters so you can replicate them! Perhaps I've just not found a "save" button which might be right under my little nose?)

??? QUESTION/Concern for Ken of Pixarra: When I download and install this version, will it still eat/overwrite my existing version during the install process? I hate when that happens cause if the install fails, it leaves me without either and thus in panic mode since the older version that still worked fine was installed with a now expired time-sensitive key? There's simply no good reason to overwrite if we have a spacious HD, and sometimes the older version even contained nice features absent from a newer version.
That said, thanks again for your generosity, Ken!!

Ken Carlino @Quill Pen, thank you for the testimonial!!

Regarding your question. The default it to install on-top of the previous version. That can be overridden, however, the license key is system wide so keep that in mind. It's good practice to save your old license key and reinstall the old version as a recovery method if needed.

Also you are welcome!

Ken Carlino For this giveaway version or TwistedBrush Pro Studio if your installation on Windows 10 reports an issue with Win32DPNetGame, please follow the solution on this link:

Basically a legacy component of Windows needs to be enabled. Windows 10 will automatically enable it in most casts. The latest version of TwistedBrush Pro Studio has resolved this dependency.

H. H. @ bdj customers
I m customer of pixarra twistedbrush (formerly sketchbook) since version 2.3 and would highly recommend making use of the great offer
and support the further development by making a purchase of the current version 23.06. If one considers that the regular price for only 15 additional corel
painter particle brushes is about 32,95 € and Pixarra offers a really versatile creative product with over 9000 brushes, reliable support for less than 30$ the offer and price are unbeatable.
it´s very useful to have a look at the tutorials /tutorial videos since it makes discovering the great number of useful features easier.

@Ken Carlino
really appreciating your products.
But nevertheless one feature really missing and asking if there may be a chance of implementing it:
that´s the possibility to save the clip and image brushes with different aspects.
This means that it should be possible to store the images for the clip and image-brush in the clip-bank not only as an image,
but an image with further properties - at least size and angle..
best would be if one could additionally easily deform an image-brush ("warp, dragging,,..) and also save the new modified image as a new image/clip-brush in the clip -bank.
This would make your great software and unique brush-engine even more versatile.
Being able to save size, rotation,,.. in the clip bank would be a great improvement for artists (user-defined brushes) as well as for people which more like to use picture elements
for mangas,... (just an example: if one has drawn a flower - it could be very useful to be able to save the flower with different size and rotations for later use.
Additionally being able to deform the e,g flower-- brush-tip and by this creating and saving more variations of the flower/brush would be great (deforming could mean something like handling the brush-image like a gum or warping, dragging, punching, - or at least modify height and wide separately .)

Thank you for considering and further development
H.H.

Ken Carlino @H.H. Thank you for your support and feedback!! Regarding saving clip properties. This is a good suggestion and has come in before. I am sure there is room for improvements with the clips. Most of what you describe would be accomplished with some brute force but having integrated support to make this easy would be useful. Do keep in mind when you select a clip you can use the powerful Paste tool to dynamically size, rotate and place the image clip on your page. Also can freely rotate and size at the same time. In general the Paste tool, in my opinion, is great for working with clips. All that said, I will nudge the current feature request to enhance clips with transformation properties.

H. H. @ Ken,
thank you for considering and putting the suggestion on the roadmap for future development.
I already make use of the paste tool, but there are many conditions where it would be really fine to be able to save the resized and rotated brush as a new brush/clip
- e.g. when painting fishes for an aquarium, ears,... it would be fine, if one could use it in different positions and aspect ratios / forms repeatedly (also e.g. when drawing head elements - ears for the right or left sight, different positions and sizes,..)
and not always to have to adjust it again. but not only for positioning single elements but also for user-defined brushes (continuous lines) it can be useful to save with different adjustments - e.g. having a colored brush with a thicker dark line
at the bottom - one may want to save the brush also with the thick line at the top, left or any angle. I´d compare it somehow with the usefulness of a color-wheel palette - of course one can create most colors from the 3 basic colors yellow, red (magenta) and blue (cyan)
However having a great palette with different colors and not always having (though still being able if one wants) to mix them again and again leads to a much better creative workflow - the same would be with the clip-images - not always having to adjust them again when one needs
the same adjustments as one has created before.
A very old software (about 15 - 20 years old) had already implemented the ability to store the brush-tip-images in different variations - that was "newtek aura" (only had a demo, it´s far too expensive if one does not need animation). I think later it was offered as "Mirage" and
now (with further improvements as "TVPaint Animation) (demo is available)
Looking forward to future development of TBR
H.H.

Richard User Is the key from purchase of 24.04 good for future updates or just with 24.04 only?

Ken Carlino Hi @Gerald User.

We can assure you that the key is valid.

1. Please, make sure that you have downloaded and installed TwistedBrush Pro Studio 23. This can be checked from the menu Help->About.
2. When entering the key, please use the copy and paste functionality of Windows rather than typing the key manually. Try not to select any space symbols.

Regards,
Pixarra Team

Ken Carlino Hi @Richard User,
If you have bought version license, in this case for TwistedBrush Pro Studio 24, then the key will be valid only for version 24 and its minor upgrades (24.05, 24.06, etc.).
If you buy TwistedBrush Pro Studio Perpetual License, then you will get free lifetime updates or your key will be valid for every new version.

Regards,
Pixarra Team

Keith User I rarely download anything from BitsDuJour. This time like most other times after downloading, I simply cannot 'find' the program. Why? I may not be the most experienced user, but 'finding' the program to continue and eventually use it should not be this confusing.

H. H. @ bdj customers
Im writing a comment again, because it would be a pitty, if the discussion of a registration problem some people describe would give a false negative impression regarding this wonderful püiece of software. As a customer since verision 2.3 I can say, that the program has always worked fine, and the developer was in close touch with his customers, so that problems could be solved soonly.
Pixarra TwistedBrush is a really great program for all people that like creative painting and creative handling of images. To offer such a versatile piece of software as giveaway is really generous. I would highly recommend making use of the great offer
and support the further development by making a purchase of the current version 24.04. If one considers that the regular price for only 15 additional corel
painter particle brushes is about 32,95 € and Pixarra offers a really versatile creative product with over 9000 brushes, reliable support for less than 30$ the offer and price are a nobrainer
It is useful to have a look at the tutorials /tutorial videos since it makes discovering the great number of useful features easier.

Piter User During installation shows "This file contains invalid data".
I tried 6 times but...nothing. Again and again shows different files with invalid data.
Some help?

Ken Carlino Hi Peter,
Do you see this message during the installation process or after starting the program after installation?
If you are not able to install the software, please try to download the installation file from our website: https://www.pixarra.com/download.html (TwistedBrush Pro Studio version 23.06).
There are a few error messages that you might see after you try to run the program, but they are only stating that you are using an older version, and are not an obstacle for using all features of the program.

really great piece of creative software, version 24 with more than 9000 brushes at bdj discounted price costs less than an additional brush pack with 15 brushes for corel painter.
To my personal opinion a no-brainer for all people that are interested in versatile painting and image editing software.

@Ken Carlino
it would be fine, if you could read my questions/feature suggestions since 2017 (just search the conversation page "load older comments" for H.H.) again and give a feedback if requested improvements could be expected in future TBR version. Especially the postíng from Nov 14 2018 at 5:25pm
https://www.bitsdujour.co...tId=141049.
These features would make TBR even more versatile and could be very useful. Although I really appreciate TBR a lot, I m always missing these features when using TBR.
Thank you for reconsidering and responding in advance
best regards
H.H.

PS: Is there a reason, that now mostly new versions are announced by Yana
V.and not yourself?
PS2: in the above description of TBR only 5000 brushes are announced, but
at least version 24 has more than 9000 brushes - perhaps you may alter
the bdj description

Chuck @Ken Carlino
Do you offer a similar discount on the perpetual license?

Ken Carlino @H. H. thank you for the suggestions. We are looking at each new idea, but we are still focused on updating the other Studio products.
TwistedBrush Pro Studio v23 has fewer brushes than the most recent version 24 which includes the brush collections from the other Studio products.

We don't offer a discount for TwistedBrush Pro Studio Perpetual license, only for Studio Bundle Perpetual license. Most probably we will do a TwistedBrush Pro Studio promotion in the following months.

Ken Carlino @H.H. Regarding your P.S, Yana V takes care of the details of the distribution, marketing, and first line of support so that I can focus on development.

thank you for responding. Régarding the number of brushes I did not write it clearly enough - just meant a hint regarding the offer of version 24.04 - as an additional argument for purchasing

Nice to read, that you yourself still focus on development. Possibly some details of the suggestions (e.g. ability to save image clips with saving chosen angles) posted several years ago might not have reached you or have been lost at forum-crash.

Where could I best post them again, if possible with 2 mp4 files (about 5-6mb each) illustrating the feature requests?

Thank you for responding again in advance
