What are people saying about Typing Assistant

Mary Wilson I was interest in trying the software out, but I could not find the download link as there is none and the link to the manufacture is also not working. Unfortunately, you can't try a program if the links don't work.

Roger Thomasson Thanks for the heads-up Mary! The links should be working fine now.

Gerry Michaels You should check out It has a *full sentence* auto-completion. Much better than guessing single words. Gerry

Michael M I have been using SureType for years. But decided to try this out.

Worked OK for about three minutes after install, but when I tried to add a term, it froze, crashed and closed the program.

Also, did not see any instructions on backing up data or the library [lib] file. That seems incomplete, not to have instructions on backing up files, in the Help section.

Lastly, while I think the data is in a filed call "lib" I did not see anything that addresses how secure this program is. Security is important because I use these "auto complete" programs to enter password strings, including log on names and numbers. While I make the entries cryptic and disguise the entries, I still am concerned about a hacker grabbing the files, opening his or her copy of this program, then accessing the auto entries. That is why I disguise my entries, so that a hacker cannot put two and two together. For example, I don't label an entry "ChaseBank" and I also do something else I won't disclose here. In any event, I have used RoboForm for secure password entry in that past year, so I guess security of this program is not a major issue.

Nevertheless, I am wondering, how secure is this program.

I guess for simple typing in Word or blogs it may work well, except that it crashed on me so soon after using, so I am uninstalling it rather than spending an hour trying to fix it.

mao hbao To Michael M: I am developer of Typing Assistant. Thanks for your using of this software. Here is my reply. (1)About crashing: I want to know where you add a tern and it crashed? AutoLearn or Shorthand? We have a lot of costumers and no one report this problem. If it is true, please send us details. (2)About security: You can define the exceptions (such as your secret information) at "Typing Assistant Control Panel--Dictionaries--AutoLearn--Exceptions", it will not be learned, this information is saved by encryption. If anyone has a question, please don't hesitate to write us: Email: If you have any other question, please don't hesitate to write us. Email: Typing Assistant supporter

Josh biler It is very good that the basic dictionary is configurable, the developer provides dictionary files for several languages on their website. But no French there, when will it be included?
Nov 20 2008 at 4:03pm Copy Link
mao hbao We will add more and more basic dictionary files for other languages. But if user can provide us words list of his native language, and help us do some testing work, we will do this more effectively.

You can also add your usually used words to Auto-Learn dictionary: open TA Control Panel -- Dictionaries -- Auto-Learn -- Add.

luo fro Hello,
Is it possible to import the existing (and already customized) dictionaries out of MS word into the Typing Assistant software?
Or could one import text files for the program to learn the vocabulary contained in there ?
Nov 23 2008 at 4:54pm Copy Link
mao hbao to luo fro :

Yes it can. Open TA Control Panel -- Dictionaries -- Auto-Learn, click Add button, there will be a popup window.

You can copy text from any other place and paste them here, then TA will pick up words from the text automatically, you can add these words to Auto-Learn dictionary. By this function, anyone can build a dictionary for himself from already existing texts.

muo soliloquiza Thank you for the offer. But I use the freeware PhraseExpress.

Is Typing Assistant really worth a look? I could not see from the description that it can do more?! Please help.

Nov 25 2008 at 9:11pm Copy Link
yan chill I think it is different from Phraseexpress. First TA is more easy to use. Perhaps the discussion in this thread will do some help:

Nov 25 2008 at 11:10pm Copy Link
Muo Soliloquiza But as said I use Phrase Express and find it is VERY easy to use.

My question is whether there is any better feature in Typing A.?
Nov 25 2008 at 11:18pm Copy Link
John Lai I type in French & English. Suggestions
1) Possibility to edit (add, remove or edit words & Phrases) directly a dictionary.
Reason:- Each dictionary will keep phrases in that language only. Actually, for a bilingual typist, french & english phrases will pop up even if I type a document in french. I would prefer to keep auto expand & auto clipboard phrases for names of people & places.
2) When will a french dictionary be available? Is it possible to make the program ignore accents for words like ├ęcole? With an english keyboard, I think it is faster.

Nov 26 2008 at 4:45am Copy Link
John Lai Forgot to add.
Is it/will it be possible to create a new dictionary and save it as such (for example French) instead of just adding french words to the auto learn dictionary?

Nov 26 2008 at 4:52am Copy Link
mao hbao John Lai : We have already added a French basic dictionary just now, you can download it here:

Jason Hines I prefer Type Booster. Not free, but very well implemented.
