S B This is a really nice program. I purchased it some time ago and use it regularly.

It literally has two parts.

Its numeric part is a really advanced mathematical and scientific calculator. You can assign values to variables, and write expressions using dozens of built-in mathematical functions, functions you've defined and named, etc., etc. Using 38 digits of precision, you can evaluate, integrate, and even minimize over several variables, etc. It will solve simultaneous linear equations, perform both linear and non-linear statistical calculations, etc., etc.

Its algebraic (symbolic) part lets you enter algebraic expressions, which it will simplify, factor, etc. --symbolically. It knows trigonometric identities, rational identities, differential calculus, matrices, complex numbers, etc. You can assign values and expressions to symbols, and you can build your own functions, too.

All of this can be used to generate numerical sequences which can be plotted in many ways.

This is a powerful application, and enormously useful.

FYI: The Pro version, which is also offered on discount, of UltimaCalc is similar in every way, however it includes the Symbolic Algebra module. You can find out much more about the Symbolic Algebra module here:

Ralph Bressler Is there still a Pro version of this program? Does the discount apply to the Pro version? How do I access the Pro version?

Frank Stephens I bought the Pro version last time, but it's been a long time since I've used it. I'll reinstall after I reinstall Windows yet again. These all have their strong and weak points. Microsoft Mathematics 4.0 is now free, Chasys Math is free, and of course there's WolframAlpha.

S B This *is* really nice, powerful, and very useful. It does both great calculations and (in the Pro version) symbolic math (factoring, simplifying, etc.) The old UI is quirky but very workable and nice--and often surprisingly convenient and efficient.

See my earlier positive comments.

Also, a license costs just a tiny fraction of the cost of the big name symbolic math apps.

I've been using this off and on for years.

Nico: is it possible to upgrade an earlier version of UltimaCalc that had symbolic manipulation (from before there was a Pro version) to the current Pro version?

@ S B Sorry we're not offering that upgrade as Iconico, Inc. did not sell that version of the software, that really predates us by a good few years. Thanks for the positive comments!

Sam Calabrese I bought UltimaCalc Pro from here a while back (v3.1.809) and have a valid key, but it stopped upgrading. Clicking the "Check for Upgrade" link just gets me a "404 - File or directory not found."
