Ultra Recall is a personal information and document management app that gives you the power to manage all of your data, regardless of its source or location, in one centralized spot. With Ultra Recall, you never need to remember which application holds your data -- all of it is instantly available on demand, no matter where it's located.

What kinds of data are we talking about? How about all of your Microsoft Office files, all of your Outlook messages, appointments, contacts, and notes, any email program that supports the .eml format, websites bookmarked in all of the major internet browsers, and every file on your hard disk, including ZIP archives? Even images, text, online documents, and clipboard data can be fully organized into an on-demand database with Ultra Recall! Populating Ultra Recall is ultra-easy - just drag and drop, copy and paste, or enter your information manually.

When it's time to retrieve all of the information that you need on a topic, just enter your search term into the Quick or Advanced Search, and Ultra Recall will display all of your matching items. Quick Search retrieves a list of matching items in a flash, or use the more detailed Advanced Search to pull information out of the database with surgical precision using logical operators! Each of your data items comes with an attributes list that tells you everything you need to know about that file.

Finding your data is just the first step. Everything that you need to view, organize, and work with your data is neatly contained in Ultra Recall. Use the integrated web browser to view your bookmarked sites, or the rich text editor to open text files. Images display in the image viewer, and the native email message viewer, contact editor, and form viewer round out the arsenal of convenient features. Of course, you can always elect to open web pages and documents in their associated application, but with such robust integration, you may never need to leave the program!

kydara This software looks interesting to me but I have 2 questions before I buy:

1. Does it _index_ your existing files into its database, or does it _move_ them into it? I do not want a software that moves my data into a proprietary database and thereby locks me into its ecosystem.

2. I see that there is a free trial but of course this BdJ deal only lasts a short time and would not allow me to evaluate if sufficiently. The fine print does mention a 30 day return policy but I want to verify that I can use it for up to 30 days and get a full refund if I don't find that it meets my needs.

Thanks in advance!

Constantin Florea @kydara, You can fill in the quantity in any of the two fields and then press the "Click Here To Enter Credit Card Info" button.

Kyle A @kydara: 1. When importing, you can either link or store the content in the DB. Either way, it indexes the document content (and it does not delete the original document).

https://kinook.com/UltraR...ntents.htm

And you're not locked in, because you can always export the stored content.

2. Yes, there is a 30-day return policy

Kyle A @kydara: Regarding the order form, it is just listed twice because the backend code requires an array (more than one). You can enter the quantity in either row.

Larry W I'm using 5.4, how well does the Web Clipper work at capturing web page information? Does it capture the selected text or whole page? I loaded the trial a a while ago and didn't test it enough so it's expired.

- Also I think I noticed a Portable Version download, is there now really a portable version?

Thanks.

Kelly Hamblin Just want to say that I highly recommend this software. I use it mostly for (history) research. It is a real boon to store web pages offline and be able to edit them. My version is 5.4. I'll be checking the differences in the newer version that is on sale today. Thanks Kinook for the great software and offering it on sale periodically.

Gary User I just bought one license, but I have 2 desktop computers and one laptop - I would only use the program on one at a time. Do I need three licenses to have it available to me on each of the three computers?

Kyle A One license if you're not using simultaneously.

a a Do the portable versions write to the registry or other folders like ProgramData or Users folders, or do they only write to folder where it's launched from ?

Todd User I've been a customer for about a decade now and use this software daily. It is incredibly configurable for any need you may have. I highly recommend it for any note-taking or database project.

a a Is it possible to get this discount off the upgrade pricing ?

I'd also upgrade my version of CopyWiz if there were a BDJ offer, also on the upgrade pricing ?

Also, is it still possible to pay with PayPal by sending PayPal payment to orderskinook.com ?

PS. The CopyWiz upgrade is not offered of the general Purchase page; it's only on the CopyWiz order page.

Kyle A @a a: The portable version writes to an INI file in the folder of the executable.

There is not a discount on upgrade pricing, beyond the discount that it already is form the regular upgrade price.

Gary User OK - purchased and tried it. Looks like a good program with lots of options and an extensive help file. But it seems to me that there is no pdf viewer - i.e., if I import a pdf, it extracts the text and displays it in a non formated way. Am I correct that the only way to view the pdf in its original format is to open it with my default pdf program?

Kyle A @Gary User: If your PDF viewer supports and is configured to embed in IE, it can also be configured to render in UR.

Gary User Before I can decide whether to import pdf's or just link to them, I need to know if the program has a pdf viewer built-in. I've only been able to view unformatted text of a pdf in the program - am I missing something?

Kyle A See my previous remarks about 5 posts up on configuring a PDF viewer in UR. I know that Foxit works, and I believe PDFXchange and Acrobat Reader do as well. Also see

kydara I purchased this promo and installed it. Have not had much chance to really delve into it yet but it looks like a pretty sophisticated piece of software.

I'm writing this note though to express how impressed I am with the developer. He fixed a snafu that was my own fault when I put the wrong email address on the order form, and also answered several followup questions that I asked him, quickly and courteously. And you can see for yourselves by looking at the thread above how helpful he has been to others who've asked questions here.

Good software is great. But a good developer behind it makes it 10x better. Thanks Kyle.

Disclaimer: no affiliation with the developer other than as a customer.

Pete User Does UltraRecall build it's own index? Or, does it use the already built index of Microsoft Windows Search? I'm concerned about disk space used by the index (especially if it duplicates the index).
Nov 19 at 11:45am Copy Link
0
Kyle A @Peter User: UR builds its own index, a SQLite full text index stored in the .urd file. Document content is stored compressed, and typically, the .urd file size is the same or smaller than the total stored document content. Regarding IE, see https://www.kinook.com/Fo...php?t=5661 https://www.kinook.com/Fo...php?t=5744 Regarding X1, I am not sure how it compares. UR indexes only the files that are specifically imported or folders that are synced, not entire folder structures of the system, which could be one difference.
