What are people saying about UpdateStar Premium Edition

Peter Gabriel I like the idea, but having used the trial version, I think it lacks accuracy with some of the supposed updates. For example, I have a freeware weather program called Cumulus, Update Star informed me there was a newer version so I thought OK I'll download it. Luckily I read the description of Cumulus as described by Update Star, otherwise I would have downloaded a warehouse management program! Also, some of the version information is inaccurate. I also found the constant redirecting to their website irritating. It's a good idea, but it needs a bit more work before I'd think about buying it.

Jason Howard "The UpdateStar database is maintained by the users, for the users. Thousands of voluntary users help us to complete and keep our database with more than 1,273,000 software products up to date"

And pay for the privilege? There are many free products that work under the same principle and they do a great job. What exactly does an $80 list price provide that the free "user maintained" versions cannot.

Unless "UpdateStar Premium Edition" provides some significant improvement over how all the the free competition operates, it is hard to justify considering this seriously.

Finally - considering that the "purchase" is little more than a 12 month rental - is only a further slap in the face.

PG BNax Jason & Peter, thanks for taking the time to share your comments. For others considering this app, I found the 1-year license business on the homesite's shopping cart page (copy/paste): - - - - UpdateStar Premium Edition javascript:stay(); 1 year license, no cancelation period This is a yearly subscription product. After 12 month(s), a yearly fee of $19.95 is due starting with the next billing cycle. - - - - This fact is of obvious importance to potential buyers. The dev chose to ignore it, as well as the preceding comments. Tells me a lot. Moving on ...

Warren Russell This is a 3-PC license. The price for a single PC is...$29.95. As I only need the application for one PC, this offer will not save me any money.
