What are people saying about UPDF PDF Editor

Jon Spain Could the fine print be clarified, please? After saying it may be used indefinitely, there is a reference to current subscriptions for upgrades. What subscriptions?

Lito From their web page it looks as if there are 2 kinds of licenses available perpetual and subscription. So I would assume this is for the perpetual version.

My question is regarding the OCR feature. Is this a built in one or one that uses "cloud" processing to achieve? I know of at least one other program that has an OCR but it uses "cloud" processing so it has limited number of uses per day and requires a subscription to use it. Assuming it is not "cloud" based can the feature be used offline without an internet connection.

Also according to the user guide, you have to login via the program to register it, but once you do can the program be used offline with no internet connection or does it have to validate the perpetual license online on start up each time?

For the Perpetual License, Users can currently upgrade any minor version for free, but we reserve the right to charge extra for future major versions. That's just a possibility.

It is not "cloud" based, the OCR feature be used offline without an internet connection. And the users only have to login via the program to register, after that you can access all features of UPDF offline.

Superace Software Technology Co. Ltd @Mustang
Hi your email and your name..The License will be yours not BitsDujour
Lito Gave the trial a shot so I wanted to write a mini review. Overall a nice looking PDF program. It does can handle a lot of the editing annotating that I would need. So as a main use of a reader with annotations it gets passing marks.

A few minor issues though:
1) The program is 32bit and doesn't seem to have a 64bit version. This won't affect most people but there are some large sized mainly image compilation PDFs that may fail to load. I didn't have the one that use to crash an old 32bit pdf reader/editor I used a wnile ago that is 1.21GB to test this program before I uninstalled it with but it is a potential issue.
2) The uninstall in windows was not clean. It left something I didn't like in the registry. It modified the .pdf file type to be "updf document". So in windows explorer even after updf was removed, it still called all .pdf files as updf documents. You shouldn't be modifying the HKCR\.pdf (default) registry key since PDF is not your proprietary file type.
3) Editing was easy but I did run into a minor issue, I couldn't delete a blank page from the pdf file. This is one of those things I tend to do when editing a pdf, "this page is intentionally blank", so I delete it if it's in a pdf file I am reading.

Mustang In an earlier comment the vendor stated " after that you can access all features of UPDF offline.". But to use all of the features I have to remain logged in, otherwise the program reverts to a trial. When I launch the program, it opens 3 connections to 47.253.136.156 which appears to be a nginx web server that was installed along with the program. What are these connections for, and what happens when i have no internet service?

Only by staying logged in can the software identify if you're authorized. If you don't have internet service, this doesn't prevent you from using any of the features.
Superace Software Technology Co. Ltd @Rohs It's no different than Adobe, except our OCR tech uses Abbyy.

Mike B I'd like some clarifications:

I understand that one license can be used across platform, but if I have 3 Windows computers can I use a single license on all 3?

One of the previous posts from the vendor says, "Only by staying logged in can the software identify if you're authorized. If you don't have internet service, this doesn't prevent you from using any of the features"

What is the drawback to not being "authorized"? Exactly what is the difference in behavior if you are not logged in or are disconnected from the Internet?

I don't see a table of contents offered (in many PDF readers the thumbnails can be replaced by a TOC if the document has one). I also don't see navigation buttons/menu items like "back" or "forward" so that I can switch among pages I;m interested in easily.

Am I missing those features, or are there plans to add them?

Sorry for the late response. We just saw the comment.
1. One UPDF License can be used across platforms means "If you buy one license code, you can use UPDF on 4 devices: 2 desktops (1 Windows+1 Mac, or 2 Windows or 2 Macs) and 2 mobile devices(1iOS+1Android, or 2 iOS, or 2 Android). Reinstalling when you replace a new device is allowed."
2. You can use all features without the internet service. But before that, you need to log in to the software with the license.
3. This page will be helpful for you: https://updf.com/knowledg...-features/, you will know more about hidden features of UPDF.
Robert User I have read all of the description, the previous and current comments, and the pages on the developer's website suggested in the comments. Those pages do not have any explanation how the activation and license work. I am still curious about these statements:

"2. You can use all features without the internet service. But before that, you need to log in to the software with the license."

Is the "log in" step required each time the software is started, meaning intending on using? If so, this seems like a step that holds up the process of getting right to work on a PDF file. It also is an unnecessary step if you consider how other PDF editors work. For others, they are activated during the setup steps (like common purchased software). Once activated, there is no need to hold up the user in the future. Which way does this software use?

Thanking you in advance.

ciprian Reading the comments on other promoting site, unfortunately I can say that this is a kind of lifetime, but not entirely. Lifetime of the product is proposed, however, the developer states the probability of creating a different software name with a different core. To me this is just a marketing solution to build up capital for a development that it will be stopped in the near future. This is no different core and this should be made clear to all developers. You are building on existing knowledge funded with the money from existing software. So we are the stakeholders that will get pushed away while you have a virtual bankruptcy. Not nice and it is time to point out this kind of money grabbing attitude. While I understand the need for funding and the step away from the lifetime licensing I can not agree with the attitude of not pointing this movement for what it is. Just a fake lifetime. Please provide real customer care for the advertising you are making.

Jon Spain The fine print has "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for the lifetime of the product.". I gues the question is whether or not the developer intrnds to keep it hoing and I see @ciprian thinks otherwise. Would the feveloper care to comment, please?

Superace Software Technology Co. Ltd Hello, Jon

Thanks for your question.

It means you will have all updates within this major version. We reserve the right to ask for an upgrading fee in the future if we entirely redesign the software or upgrade our core technology. However, you're the person who decide upgrade or not, if you don't want to upgrade, you still have lifetime access to the current version. :)
