Michael R. Recently I got an email from SoftOrbit
Get SoftOrbits Digital Photo Suite for FREE!
which promises their PhotoSuite for free in favor of a review of one of their products.

I created one for BatchPictureResizer, sent it to them before the given time-limit and... got nothing. Of course I sent it more than once, to support

softorbits.com and also to sales

softorbits.com, but no answer... (and so - of course - no promised License-number).

After sending it once more, my email was refused with the info, it has been not accepted, because of too much emails sent from
my email-account.

Did anyone experience the same?

So, SoftOrbit-team, what did happen and how can I (and perhaps other users) get the promised license?

Software Guy Michael R. - the company you are talking about is not the same one offered here. One is Soft Orbits (with the photo programs) and the other is Softwares Orbit. Confusing - yes.

It is Softwares orbit that is offering USB Locker today.

Bradley Neeson I am the official Marketing person from SoftwaresOrbit. Yes we are softwaresorbit.com and we are offering the real USB Locker which is 100% our own brand with all copy rights.

PortablesFan A few notes about this program (merely from looking at their website, I haven't tried it yet):

The license is good for ONE device (flash drive, memory card, what-have-you). "a single-user license allows the program to be run on ONE USB drive only. The Serial key is valid for only one USB pen drive. Each license includes the right to receive any future updates of the software with no time restriction" (q. 21). "If you have more than one USB Drive or external storage devices that you need to protect, then you will have to buy multiple licenses. Each device/drive requires an individual license. Note: Using one license for multiple devices is an illegal activity and software Orbit (Pvt) Ltd. keeps an eye on illegal activities" (q. 27).

The website says at http://www.softwaresorbit...s-platform that USB Locker is "cross platform," but I think that only applies to the protection. There doesn't seem to be a way, that I saw, to ACCESS your protected data within OS X, Linux, etc.

USB Locker "protects" your data, but apparently does not encrypt it - encryption is the job of their more expensive program USB Safe (currently on a Black Friday sale for $17.97, it's usually about $30 - read more about this program at http://www.softwaresorbit.com/usb-safe/ )

From a security perspective, this seeming "backdoor" was also somewhat worrisome to me:
"If I forgot my password how I can retrieve my password? Only registered user can retrieve her password. By using USB Locker master key feature in option, if Master Key is feature is checked you can used your serial key as a password. If Master key feature is unchecked please contact us at http://www.softwaresorbit...ntact.html to retrieve your password" (q. 16).

Also note the following restrictions from the BdJ "Policy" window, though these may not all be accurate:
"Transfer of a license to another owned computer [USB device?] is not allowed."
"You must install/register the software within 1 day, and cannot do so afterwards." [sounds like a hold-over from one of the BdJ "freebie" templates?]
The "full license details" link seems to only go to the company's privacy policy, not really having much to do with license details...

Mitch Kite I downloaded the trial and I was not able to access the "options" menu. Does the software allow you to add an "owner" text file that is always visible? If my drive is misplaced at work, it would be great if someone found it and knew who it belongs to. Other similar apps have this capability.

Nov 29 2012 at 1:07pm Copy Link

Bradley Neeson No we have remove that access file option. Because of a security issue, Most of the times it happens that if some one found that access they have miss used it in different ways. We got so many complains about it thats why removed that option.

Softwares Orbit - Nov 29 2012 at 1:32pm Copy Link

Mitch Kite Thanks for the response. One of you competitors has it as an option so you can decide to either add a visible text file or not. That is a deal-breaker for me.

Nov 29 2012 at 1:35pm Copy Link

Bradley Neeson We can put that for special user no issue. Like we can add a option for it.

Arlene Manduca Was ready to buy this..... until I looked closely.

You must install/register the software within 15 days, and cannot do
so afterwards.
Hmm, .. I pay for it, (discounted) but must install it in three days or I never can... (fine print). Not so FINE with me. I'll use TruCrypt which is free, Thank you.

Jun 14 2013 at 12:59am Copy Link

Roderick Nicolson That doesn't make any sense since they say there is no installation process for this product.
Think about it?
Perhaps somebody can verify this and explain what is meant in the fine print that Ariene has read.

Jun 14 2013 at 2:04am Copy Link

Arlene Manduca @Roderick, there's some way they make sure each license is used on only one USB. You need a one for each thumbdrive or external USB HD. They probably capture registry settings, file structure images or MAC addresses. Look at their website. Check the third tab yourself - THE FINE PRINT. - Sorry typo in my post you have 15 days to install it, not three.

Jun 14 2013 at 2:22am Copy Link

Bradley Neeson @Roderick Nicolson

Its by mistake written on the fine prints. You can get the license key and use it any time you want, Its valid for life time.

Softwares Orbit - Jun 14 2013 at 2:58pm Copy Link

Bradley Neeson @ Arlena

There is a mistake in the fine print. You can use the key for life time. Its not for 15 days.

Please stop promoting other products. I always see true crypt fake users on every data security products. Please avoid it.

Softwares Orbit - Jun 14 2013 at 3:01pm Copy Link

Roderick Nicolson Thanks for your explanation. That is good news.
There is only one other thing that bothers me though. From what I gather I can only use it on one USB stick. I have many which would mean a small fortune of licences to cover them all.

Jun 14 2013 at 4:32pm Copy Link

Arlene Manduca @Bradley Neeson. I was ready to purchase your product. I had only the information you provided in the fine print. It's up to you to see that it's correct.
I have nothing to do with any other products. Roderick and others pointed out, your product is only good for one device. I think other products offer a different types of licenses. Win7 Pro and Ultimate have password protection ability for USB drives and I think thumb drives built in. You'll sell some licenses to people who don't know of any other products but your real gain here is to learn what the marketplace wants. To provide and improve the competitiveness of your offering, features and pricing so you survive. Often programmers think merely the quality of their software's code is important. Competiveness and attention to detail, spelling and the offering are all factors which affect whether people will buy them. I bought $80 of software last night, only Bitsdujour offerings.

Jun 14 2013 at 6:33pm Copy Link

Grateful Where are you reading "fine print?" I've been on the website, and although they only mention locking "your (1) USB drive" they don't outright say they only cover just one. I also cannot find reference to the 15 days to install, but this company is not alone in that category. Most software that's not a subscription is for a lifetime without upgrades, but be careful to find out whose lifetime they are talking about. Often it's the lifetime of the computer you install it on, and it cannot be installed on any other computer. Once in awhile, it's your lifetime, but not as often as you might think!!

Jun 14 2013 at 8:44pm Copy Link

Stan The fine print says: "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for the lifetime of the product." but in the FAQ it says: " Life-time upgrades for FREE of all minor version of USB Locker."

Jun 14 2013 at 10:35pm Copy Link

Arlene Manduca @Grateful and @Stan After my post they changed the text. Wasn't correct in the beginning, They corrected it AFTER my post. THE FINE PRINT is now different and clearer. Do YOU work for them?

I'm a customer ONLY and did buy $80 worth of software last night on Bitsdujour. Was going to buy this product till I read that 15 day business.

The best thing for them to have done would have been - just acknowledge errors in THE FINE PRINT, Thank me for bringing it to their attention. Let everyone know it was corrected. Instead they bopped ne for mentioning another product and implied I worked for a competitior. If I hadn't pointed the errors out it still would have said -- you must Install it within 15 days or you can't later. Others would passed on it. Would be good if they were clear in THE FINE PRINT, the most cost effective way to use the product with multiple machines on your own. To state whether you need a license for each thumbdrive or PC on a network. Also what license you need if you have a stand alone machine not on your network. Some doctor's offices have machines with no Internet access to avoid the risk of compromising HIPPA protecteed medical records.

Jun 15 2013 at 3:14am Copy Link

Stan @Arlene: My post says the the upgrade information is more restrictive in the FAQ you can find at softwareorbits homegage.

The only advantage of this software is that it doesn't need administrator rights. On the other side I can't find satisfactory information about the securrity concept so I think the tool will only hide the data (by changing the file system?).

Jun 15 2013 at 4:03am Copy Link

Ron de Wit After reading the EUlA and checking the site and Bits du Jour info I found in the orderemail that the product is only valid on one drive. In NL that info should be provided before buying (legally). If known I would not have bought it. I won't buy extra for other drives. I think it's handy to look for win 8 pro with a new pc and use Bitlocker. I'm not pleased with this.
