LB Easy transaction, instructions & installation process. Registration code received automaticaly to my email account within minutes. This is more of an experiment for me to see how far and how many servers an IP adress travels from and to see the original location & where in the world! (have a play around with it first) I plan then to use it to check for legit locations and website addresses, when ever additional security checking is needed. Fred Schall I was looking looking forward to this software, but I can not run it since it is JAVA based. I have disabled JAVA, as everyone should do, becasue of the the security issues it has. Can your program be re-done in another language that is not Java based? I am sure everyone awaits the day when the Java issue will be resolved. It has been many weeks, and the issue with Jave still exsists.I am not sure when they will resolve this issue. Suggestions? Thank you.

Loco Driver @Fred - You don't have a proper understanding of the Java problem.
Oracle Java plugins are the "baddie"
The JavaScript programming language is NOT the issue. A program written in the JavaScript language and running on your system will NOT cause security issues (unless you try running some malware written in that language - but you'd have to personally download, install and run it.).

The Oracle Java problem occurs because you inadvertantly installed a "Java Plugin." These plugins actually go outside your computer to run software somewhere else on the internet. Sometimes you get an Oracle Java plugin and barely realize it.

You can go into your browser and deactivate "Java" (killing the plugins) and being certain that no new plugins will be installed on your browser.

Check out this website (removing the spaces before pasting the link. It explains the whole thing in great detail.

Fred Schall I follow Kim Komando...... she is a computer geek. She has advised to totally disable JAVA, until they resolve the problem.

Now you are saying it's only the plugins. How do you prevent the plugins from auto installing, when JAVA is running? It seems it will see the program running...it will autoi install plugins at will.

This is a complex problem. It is easier to just uninstal JAVA, until they solve this HUGE issue which affects millions of computers worldwide.

I would really like to run your program.

Suggestions?

Loco Driver @Fred - Kim is correct - Disable Java (Oracle's piece of junk)

JavaScript is a programming language like Pascal, VisualBasic, C++, Python, Ruby, Perl, PHP, Lisp and a thousand more.

Programs written in JavaScript do NOT even USE Oracle Java.

The Oracle Java piece of junk can be disabled in your browser - Microsoft makes it hard on some versions ot the browser, but it can be done. Google the phrase "Microsoft Browser Disable Java" you'll get 4 million hits. If Oracle Java is disabled, then the Java Plugins can't install. Realize this - Oracle Java + Plugins is a completely different thing than a program written in JavaSCRIPT !!

It's like the word "Cougar" do you mean a cat, a car model by Mercury or an older woman who seeks younger men - Totally Different Things al using the word Cougar - Get it?

Dan Palmer The Java plug-in problems were fixed in Java 7 update 15 and above. Due to the issues Java DID have Apple moved to ban all versions below Java 7 update 15 on their Mac computers.

If you have the latest Java installed there is no problem, plug-in or otherwise.

Loco Driver @Fred - I should have shut my mouth - I'm not a member of the Visual Trace company. Just trying to help. I've got Oracle Java disabled and had no problem installing or running Visualiptrace. Mainly because the program DOESN'T use Oracle Java for anything. It doesn't even KNOW about Oracle Java. So, you don't have to install Java in order to run Visualiptrace any more than you have to install Java to run MS Word.

David Morris Wow, lots of Java misinformation here. The security issue with Java 7 was with browser plugins running applets. Applets are supposed to be sandboxed unless signed by a CA; the exploit allowed unsigned or self-signed applet code to escape the browser sandbox and have full control of the computer. The problem was not at all with Java client applications running on a Java VM.

Any so-called expert telling you to uninstall Java completely because of this issue have no idea what they're talking about. Or more likely, you misunderstand what they meant by disabling the browser plugin and took it to mean the whole Java JRE.

And by the way, JavaScript (actual ISO name is EcmaScript) has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Java langage, nor is JavaScript a compiled language like Pascal or C++. It's an interpreted scripting language. Client applications like this are not written in JavaScript, they're written in the Java language and compiled down to bytecode (which is in term compiled to machine code dynamically by the JIT compiler or statically to an EXE).

Fred Schall Loco and David..... Thank you so much for your help and input. When I tired to install and run the program, it said I needed to install Java.....since it no longer is on my system. My questions is this....do I let it install Java, and if it it does, how am I sure that it won't allow the installing of the 'bad' java....the part that caused me to uninstall (as I was advised-- all Java) in the first place. Cary Adams @Fred... After installing Java, disable it in your browsers. A Google search ("disable java browser") will give you instructions for the browser of your choice. Visual IP Trace will be unaffected.

Paul T Re: Java. Everyone should be running the very latest Java version v.7 update 15 (if you are running it at all). And keep it updated! Don't let any program install an older version!

Java (like Flash) is like Swiss cheese. The main problem with Java is, indeed, the browser plugins. The latest versions of Java have made DISABLING Java in all browsers simple.

In Win 7 - Go to Control Panel then Programs then Java. When the "Java Control Panel" opens, select the "Security" tab. At the top is a check box [ ] With the words "Enable Java Content in the browser".

Make sure that box is UNCHECKED! (Click "Apply" if necessary.)

If you do those things, just having Java installed should never be a problem, Programs that need it can use it, the browsers you use probably never will need it. If you frequent a site that must have Java, then you can enable it TEMPORARILY. Don't forget to disable it afterwards.

Flash Gordon The application's concept is 'great; but...this application is past its prime??
XP Pro SP3, IE8 installed application application directs you to install Java from the Oracle site in order for it to run (127MBs of whatever) result: IE8 ceased to function properly and when it did run it was beat out by "Molasses in January" Removed application IE8 still did not function properly. Removed Java, IE8 returned to normal. Oh, and yes, the Java add-ins were disabled from the beginning.
It's unfortunate that any application has to depend on anything from Oracle.

chris hicks So I had an experience that no one else has mentioned. After I installed this on my Windows 7 laptop it killed Flash in all browsers. I went through restarting the computer, removing/reinstalling Flash and nothing worked until I removed Visual IP. The instant this was deleted a browser page refresh brought back working Flash. Any ideas what would cause that to happen?

Gde Swart The only downside (for some people) is this requires Java. I say keep Java updated and you should have no issues. Given how many networking utilities they make it's surprising that they don't offer them with a common (suite-like) front-end, but that's another topic completely. Visual IP Trace is easy to use, practical, informative and (dare I say) fun. Visualware makes great stuff. Thanks for the giveaway!

The 2009 version of Visual IP Trace IS the latest version. There have been minor updates, the last being in August 2010. Visual IP Trace 2009 is also known as version 5 (the latest being 5.0e).

There are no plans for a Chrome plugin for Visual IP Trace.

The "update the database" option is active when we post an update. These will be free and is not considered an upgrade. The database is in regard to IP locations. The same applies to eMailTrackerPro. CallerIP doesn't have an update mechanism.

Downloaded and Installed without problem on W7. Activated without issue, then successfully tracked down Google! 8D This would have REALLY helped me out when I was LARTING full-time!

I do have a question though: I remember using something similar in 2000 when I was working for a regional ISP, but that let you zoom into the map as the route was traced. Is it possible to zoom in with this product? I can't seem to get any further in than a map of the US.

First, they've extended it for another day, and BDJ usually makes sure the publisher makes good anybody that has trouble getting the software to work.

Second, Did you Activate it? Just copy the "Registration Information" from the "BitsDuJour Software Reciept" they sent to your email address, click on "Activate" in the VIPT application, paste it into the pop-up box, and click "OK".

Third, if it still doesn't work, then uninstall and reinstall it. The way that BDJ does these giveaways, that's always possible. That's because you have purchased (for $0) the software, and so the activation codes should always be good. Also, if you click on "The Fine Print" up above, you'll see that the license we are given for Visual IP Trace is for one person, on as many computers as you want (so no running VIPT on two computers at the same time), forever. So the license allows you to install it as many times as you need or want, just so long as only one person (you) uses all of those installations. If YOU want to run two copies simultaneously, or have another person use it, you will need a second license to do so legally. But if you are the only one to use it on 100 computers, you can install and activate it 100 times, and more. So don't worry about loosing your license by trying to install it two or three times.

Can you try re-entering the license key and see what happens? If you're using Win Vista/7/8 make sure you right click and choose Run As Admin when running/installing Visual IP Trace.

Linda Bellefontaine I got it 3 times(same thing) plus the notification of your comment came in the same way. All blank with just the Topic. Maybe I should contact the NSA; they probably got it. (Just a joke..or is it?)

The last time I got anything from BDJ was June 5th; the Atomic Alarm Clock. That was fine..No problems what so ever. I haven't changed a thing on Google Mail.

John Ward What is up with all of the issues getting this deal?

Neither the Facebook page or the alternate Questionnaire is working. Facebook must be down, and I finished the Questionnaire and got the purchase page with the coupon but that also just errors.

From the Time Stamps in the posts, you are obviously in a different Time Zone - about 3 hours apart. We were deep asleep by the time your request to "Try Again" came through.....

In any event, John W apparently DID retry, but without any luck.
