What are people saying about VisualRoute Personal Edition

Allen Ramsay Well this is March 24th and when I try and purchase VisualRoute, it still rings in at the full price of $49.95.

Al, you're right, the discount doesn't show up immediately. However, it should be applied after you enter your shipping information and BEFORE you enter any credit card info.

Frank Kasper 1. U3 jumpdrive capable?

Anyone know if this can be installed on a U3 enabled jumpdrive, as a U3 application?

I use internet cafes and/or school computers, so I carry most of my stuff on U3 jumpdrives.

2. Arriving at the $19.99 price:

I was almost ready to ask about the price myself, when I noticed it finally dropped to the $19.99 (as soon as I moved from the shipping address page of the order form; to the credit card info page).

Mar 24 2008 at 11:58am Copy Link

Julie Lancastere Hello, VisualRoute does not presently run on jump drives, it needs to be installed on a computer running Windows XP/2000/Vista.

Scott User WARNING DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not the current version of VisualRoute. This is version 2008 file = 12.0g build 3836

The License key you receive will NOT work with the 2009 version. You have to download from the receipt they provide for you and that is file = vr120g.exe

This ad does say what version you are purchasing but it is the old version 2008.

I assumed this for the current version on the web site, it is not.

Jun 8 2009 at 6:06pm Copy Link

Albert Wiersch Yes, I got the 2008 version too. I asked for the 2009 version or a refund.

Jun 8 2009 at 6:18pm Copy Link

Martin Zinaich In addition to version being 2008 (Thanks for posting that!), when I last owned VR I had to update it yearly to keep the reporting information up-to-date - is that still the case ?

Don Bone This is a con trick! You should be ashamed!

I downloaded the "Try before you buy" option and was very impressed with the software, so decided to purchase the offer licence.

When I tried to enter the licence code received it would not work, basically report it as invalid.

After reading the help notes (actually very good), I decided to re-download the app as it appeared that the version could be the problem. I did this using the link from the Visualware invoice.

You can imagine my surprise when I realised that this version was completely different to the trial version, specifically being 2008 (version 12) rather than 2009 (version 13). Obviously I wanted to see how much of a downgrade (= con trick) this 2008 version is, however, it will not run and gives an error (10021) which suggests that my Java installation is not up to date - I use Java for many apps and mine certainly is current. The version 13 runs perfectly?

Please comment on this con trick; both Iconico (Roger) and Visualware please. Perhaps Visualware can also comment about the problems running Version 12.

Many thanks.

Regards,

Don Bone

Albert Wiersch Not only is this the 2008 version, it seems to be 12.0g, which isn't even the latest update of the 2008 version. I wonder if this is an error on their part?

Jun 9 2009 at 1:15am Copy Link

Roger Thomasson Not a con trick Don, just a mistake :-) I'm still waiting to hear back from the vendor so that we can update the purchase link.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

J H Awesome cool tool.
Just tried out the trial version.

Decided to check the story of of Alan Nixon from Ghana as posted from on "Real Users Say"

Is his story true or just an excuse to post a porn address in your forum.

Also the sleazy posted link should be a good forensic exercise in using visual route.

So Visual Route tells me:
The porn server is located in Atlanta Georgia.
The domain has been registered anonymously by proxy since at least Aug 2006. Could possibly have been anonymous since it was created on Nov 2001 but there is not enough information presented to to confirm that it was anonymous since then.

The route also travels through some Swedish owned International servers located in Atlanta Ga. US..

The porn site is up and running. Argh ... my eyes!

There is not enough information to confirm the validity of his post. I would need to confirm the date of his story and to know if Visual Route was available prior to Aug 2006.

This is a great tool!

Mark Hill Buy! Buy! Buy!
Yes I had problems placing order but really glad I did not give up. The software is so easy to use. It is not often one gets a tool that has a serious purpose that is fun to use and provides a great visual image of the routing. Getting the business version is a fantastic bonus!

Jun 9 2009 at 5:57am Copy Link

Scott User That is some fantastic support. The upgrades show what a great company Visualware is. I appreciate the quick response to this problem and the manner in which it was resolved. Thank You Visualware.

Patrick N Thanks alot Julie, that is very good news & nice gesture.
Will retry again now.

Jun 9 2009 at 6:07am Copy Link

Julie Lancastere All the testimonials are from real VisualRoute users. VisualRoute was first developed in the late 1990's, the current version is v13. Minor updates (any v13.x release) are included with VisualRoute 2009 license.

Norbert Snodgrass @Alan Nixon

It would be helpful to mention that you could have achieved that using the free tools in Windows and a WHOIS lookup for FREE.

Doug A The primary benefit of VisualRoute is, of course, the graphical representation of the discovered route. Besides letting you quickly see the route, such charts would also be beneficial for those who need to prepare Powerpoint presentations to show network traffic flows (using a screen capture).

Albert Wiersch This is a great program for $20... but I think the regular price is too high (especially on the higher end editions) and they come out with updates every year. I'll stick with my 2009 version for now. I assume this is the 2010 version but I'm not sure... but if you want a good graphical traceroute program, get this for $20!

Jon Koerner I don't understand what is the difference between the Personal and Advanced editions. Yes, I can see the Feature Comparison chart, and it shows that Advanced has 3 features which Personal doesn't have. But I don't know what the names of the 3 features really mean in terms of functionality in plain English. Can you please describe? I want to purchase today under BitsduJour sale but it is giving me choice between those two versions, I don't know whether the additional $ for Advanced would be "worth it" for me.

So I hope I can get an answer today!

Dec 30 2009 at 9:15am Copy Link

Julie Lancastere The Advanced Edition allows you to perform automated tests at a set interval or a continuous basis, and keeps a history of the results. This provides a means to automatically test connections for extended periods and identify if/when any results fall outside an acceptable range. The Advanced Edition also tests DNS response, this can help identify connection problems caused by a faulty or unavailable domain name server.

Visualware - Dec 30 2009 at 9:43am Copy Link

J K I got an answer to my question above via email. But when I selected the Advanced version to purchase, it does not give the discount. Should be $35.48 but it shows $89.95...!

Dec 30 2009 at 1:33pm Copy Link

J T What happened to the previous Comments and to the developer's prior offers at bdj? Both sections were here earlier this evening.

Too bad the Trial opens as the Business Edition instead of Personal (or even Advanced) as offered today.

Brad Isaac I used to use visualroute years ago and needed it bad last week, but couldn't remember the title of the software. Call it old age. But It always did a great Job of nailing down the problem routes.

I need to purchase again one of these days but need the Advanced version. Will you be offering it soon on bits?

Aug 11 2010 at 2:04am Copy Link

Roger Thomasson Yes, the advanced version is also available today. Click the "Buy Now" button above for purchasing options. -r

BitsDuJour Admin - Aug 11 2010 at 2:35am Copy Link

A. Goyal The visual display looks very appealing. However, pricing is still steep for the advanced version. Would be nice to get complimentary business license upgrade like the last BDJ offering!

Pedro Laurent Why you guys are not accepting Paypal payments? Paypal is a widely acceptable type of payment system. I don't like using my credit card directly as I do not know how you guys handle or who handle the credit funds transactions.

Aug 11 2010 at 6:32am Copy Link

Mark W I have 2 questions about this deal,

1) Does it include upgrades for a set amount of time as there is an option for it on their website

2) Does the licensing allow you to install a single copy on both a laptop and a desktop as long as you are only using one at a time?

Thanks
