What are people saying about VMware Fusion

Alan Might be a dumb question, but if I have a Windows VM Machine already created, will Fusion allow me to start up and use that Windows VM machine?? I have it on a removable drive.
I have VM Workstation on my Windows machine, but I'm not exactly clear if Fusion is essentially VM Workstation for the Mac...

M B From VMware's Fusion FAQ (http://www.vmware.com/pro.../faqs.html):

Q) I already have VMware Workstation, VMware Server and VMware Infrastructure. Can I use those virtual machines with VMware Fusion?

A) Yes, VMware virtual machines are fully compatible across the product line. Virtual machines created with Workstation, Server or VMware Infrastructure can run on VMware Fusion.

Q) Can I use virtual machines created with VMware Fusion with VMware Workstation, VMware Server, VMware Player and VMware Infrastructure?

A) VMware virtual machines created with VMware Fusion 2 are fully compatible with VMware's latest products including VMware Workstation 6.5, VMware ACE 2.5, and VMware Player 2.5.

Alan Thanks for the info.

I just didn't want to assume something and then not be able to use it.

Thanks again

M B Fusion is very nice - I think having some VM software on a Mac to be able to run Windows applications is a must have (for me anyway). However, Fusion has a different enough interface from VMware that you should probably download the trial and give it a spin to make sure it feels comfortable.

Alan S I think it's kind of funky that a Mac can be set up to run Windows and Mac, but a PC pretty much only does Windows.

Yes I know a PC can do Linux, etc, but I mean Leopard and WIndows which are the 2 OS' that I generally use for Desktop stuff.

Kevin P I've been using Fusion pretty much every day on my MacBook Pro since May '09. It works great. Having said that, you could also try running Sun's Virtual Box for free. Never tried it myself, but I know a few people that are happy with it.

Anthony D if I purchase and download from my Windows PC, can I just transfer the file to the iMac over the network so I can install and run it on that machine? Or, do I need to buy and download whilest on the iMac?

Rick Gardiner Anthony - You can purchase VMware on a PC without issue. You should receive an email with your purchase confirmation and download/installation instructions, meaning you can install it on your iMac no problem. You can also purchase extended download service or a backup CD, which will allow you to download and install at a later time.

hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
