What are people saying about VSDC Pro Video Editor Lifetime License

Chris Why is this a subscription software? If I pay you money I should be able to use the pro features forever, not have it revert back to the free limited version after 12 months.

CodeDog Same here. I quit using Adobe, and any other software that has gone to the cloud/subscription based model.

Maybe I'm old school, but I like software I pay for to be on my computer and not have to worry about if and when it might expire. And if I want updates, I pay for them.

The software looks good, but I'd rather pay a little more and just not worry about subscriptions...

VSDC Hello CodeDog, thank you for your feedback. The software will still be on your computer, only advanced parameters will be disabled. But we can see your point and will think of one payment offer for our next promotion.

CodeDog That would be great, Alexander. Being in business myself, I understand that everybody has to make decisions based on their intended audience and business model, and I never fault anyone for making those decisions. After all, it is their business.

However, when I see software (or anything else) that I like, but decide not to purchase, I always think it's better to take a minute and let the vendor know why I didn't purchase rather than just skipping it and moving on. I know that would help me in making future business decisions, rather than being left wondering why sales didn't meet expectations.

I look forward to the next promotion...

franp User Hi, website documentation is very small. You write : "With a full support for dozens of video codecs and formats including but not limiting to AVI, MP4, MKV, ..." As far as I know, Avi, MP4, MKV are NOT codecs, they are containers. Which CODECS are supported ? divX ? h264 ? h265 , etc ???

Gary Smith @Alexander User,
The videohelp website lists the VSDC video editor as being recently updated:
Version:5.1.2.570
Released:20160810
... and following the description states that the Pro version costs $50.

I had previously been interested in trying your Pro version, but couldn't justify the $50 price; but at 40% discount, I would be interested.

Today is the first I knew about a version that has a yearly rate. I think if you offered the $50 Pro version for 40% off, you would have several people interested. Can you explain the difference between the Pro version videohelp.com is referring to and today's offer?

Gary Smith @Alexander User,
Thanks for the response, but I am already familiar with your website and today's offer. I am also familiar with videohelp.com's website where the entry for the VSDC editor still shows that the pro version is $50. I was suggesting that going back to having a non-subscription version, and at 40% off of the $50, should interest some new users. The subscription method would work well for people that do a lot of editing, but for users that do not do a lot of editing, a year comes up quite fast, and that is why many users are against the subscription method.

In the past, the free version has had some criticism due to using the Conduit Ltd.network that recommends products to users. Since the offer today reverts to a free version in 12 months if the user does not renew, will the program have the same type of advertising when that happens?
Aug 28 2016 at 2:59pm Copy Link

Ray User I must agree 100% subscription is just noy acceptable to any who uses the software infrequently. I wish to point out however that even when it's "bought & paid for" the time goes by fast and it is no longer the version ( or even the same platform!) as the one you bought!
A case in point, I paid a couple of thousand dollars for adobe CS5 web premium, I simply did not have the time to learn it as I was a fulltime student, now it is not supported to well, ( being deprecated I think), and they CONSTANTLY push for Creative cloud subscriptions from me. So I may as well thrown $2K in the gutter!
One good thing though, I only threw it once.
My point is that software is being improved so fast that subscribe or buy outright. You will only have the cutting edge, well supported goods for a (seemingly) short period. What is the best way? Obviously it depends on your needs, Some programs I use are 15 even near to twenty years old! they are slow ugly and perhaps embarrassing, but simple to use and still get the basic job done, other software that is vital to my livelihood, I spend what ever they charge, and update the software as often as possible, even replacing the hardware when it won't keep up!
From a business ( supplier) point of view, happy customers are very important, I think worth offering both plans if they say they wish it! You would earn their good opinion of your product(s) and it's support, their word of mouth follows, then eventually their trust. then you have a following of hardcore die hard customers that would not go elsewhere even if the competition got the job on you with something new and "improved". Can't buy that kind of security for a companies future!!!! All the companies currently providing an excellent product with horrible outsourced support are simply put, fools that are destroying the customer base for their brand, and putting themselves slowly but surely out of the game.

John H I have used their CD Grabber and it was an excellent program.
At $19 lifetime license, this is a steal. I will be glad to pay for upgrades.

4K from my Go Pro clone is funny. The actual file format tosses out every 3rd horizontal pixel and the playback program or device is required to interpolate the missing pixel on playback. 4K requires tremendous bandwidth and this trick works very well.
But I have had some problems on playback with various players. What are my output Codec options with VSDC at 4K?

Any comments about 4K capabilities by the vendor would be appreciated.

I used to use Pinnacle video editing but that has become one horrible company if you read the reviews. Currently Using Wondershare Filmora which seems to work OK but lacks a basic simple cross fade. I do not need the 100s of fancy cross fades and wipes. It is also a subscription service.

Final question .... does this have a basic simple cross fade?

Thanks!

SoftCollector Looks great and has a wealth of options. Also, I have never heard of the vendor or its products. Does the fact that the Video Converter is offered for free, and the Pro Video Editor is offered here for just $19 with a lifetime upgrade option mean that you are going out of business?

SoftCollector Thank you for answering my earlier question.

Please, also comment on the following:

1. Does this software have ripping functions – for example, can it be used to rip a CD, DVD or Blue-ray disc? I understand this is not a functionality necessarily associated with video editors, but just wondering.

2. Adobe Premier is considered the Gold Standard for Windows video editing. How is your software compatible with Adobe-specific formats?

3. Can VSDC Pro Video Editor be used to export to DCP?

Best regards,

The rocky coast line was an excellent subject for displaying various compression quality.

We all know how to walk through a menu as your tutorial shows. I should not have to sit through a 2 minute video to learn, EXPORT PROJECT- EDIT PROFILE- PROFILE FILTER (H264) .... etc.

When there are dozens of options in a menu, a good program will have a help button that will pop up a screen to explain in detail what each option does and why I would consider choosing it.

I will stop venting ...

Looks like a great program. Will wait for the deal day.
Thank You!

1. As built-in tools VSDC Video Editor has Video Converter, Screen Capture, Video Capture and Disc Burner, so yes, you can rip discs.
2. VSDC can't boast all the features that Adobe Premiere has, but we're on the way to be a really professional editor, now we offer Blending modes, Mask, advanced color correction and we'll have many more updates in our future releases. As for formats, we work with all popular formats and codecs, including recently added H265 codec and WebM format.
3. This format is supported only for input.

SoftCollector This is the most powerful editor to have been offered on BitsDuJour recently. The lifetime upgrade option is incredible. To me this is a must-have deal.

@VSDC
1. I hope you can add export to DCP for future development. Your editor will be one of very few software products to be able to do that and will surpass such popular products in the prosumer segment like Cyberlink PowerDirector. DCP is required by most independent short film felstivals around the world and even by Cannes. Independent filmmakers are your target audience.
2. When you say that Bluray and DVD disks can be ripped, do you mean by screencapture, or do you mean that a DVD/Bluray folder structure can be imported directly for ripping?

Best regards,
SC

Lifetime upgrade and only two activations. Is it a joke ?
Do you buy only 2 PC in your life ?

@VSDC says :
" if a license has limitless number of attempts to register, then it's enough just for one user to place this key in public access in the web"
"One license is valid for two activations. If you need the third time, you should buy a new license."

Purchasers BDJ are faithful and don't pay for a license to share the key on internet. It is incomprehensible to ask people to pay for a license and at the same time to accuse them of being pirates.

Does this means,
1) that I can reinstall my OS on one PC, as often as I like and this is only one activation (hardware-bound license)?
Or does this means,
2) three activations on one PC are reached, if I install my OS three times new?
An easy question, with an easy answer: 1) or 2)

Javier Gil I currently use Power Director 15 as my video editor, but I was quite impressed by some of the features of your editor.
However, comments like: "Unfortunately, the 2 activation rule has been established long ago and dictated by VSDC technical setup as well.", which is a really aweful and senseless excuse and not a logical reason for not providing more activations when buying the lifetime license, make your company look REALLY bad, deceiving potential customers with sophistry which is not even sophisticated.
Based on that alone, I wouldn't even download the trial, let alone recommend it to anyone.

Get rid of the false "lifetime" publicity (maybe set up a decent upgrade scheme, we don't want free for ever either!), be honest to your potential customers, and then perhaps you'll gain a few more customers.

John H I was not sure if .avi was still a "popular" format.

I had purchased this back in Feb of 2017 and never installed it. Then forgot about it. My old key worked in your new current version so thank you very much.

You guys have put a lot of work into this program and put lots of attention to detail in all the available formats. 2 years ago when I got a Quadcopter with a 4K camera, there was nothing to edit the video except Wondershare (and my subscription is expired.) All the big name editors were clueless to 4K and were getting one star reviews for lack of customer service..

So thank you for an affordable product.

While I avoid subscription software, I like to see a sustainable business model so the software does not die out. Am not sure if free upgrades for life will sustain continuous development. So I just did a $4.99 donation on your "Help Us" page. Also because I have extensively used your Audio CD Grabber soft ware the last time I re-ripped my CD collection.

Mike B Does VSDC Pro Video Editor support "frame accurate cuts" so that trimming a video doesn't result in having to re-encode?

Also, I see that there is much talk from older sales here at BDJ that only 2 activation is allowed so that if I migrate to a new computer more than once I would not be able to reinstall anymore.

Most software that has this type of activation lockout will allow activations to be reset by email request if a user has run out of activations? Is VSDC willing to reset activations on request?

Mike B @styrobrain: the scenario that I am concerned about running out of activation is the simply that I have replaced a machine for whatever reason - whether the old one has died, gotten stolen, or simply needed to be replaced.

For my own point of view, I'd much rather have it so activations are not hard-capped and give up life time updates. I can understand having a cap to prevent abuse, but it should be reset on request as long as it's clear the license isn't being abused. While I like lifetime upgrades, I'm OK with having to pay for them.

However, to be clear - other than anti-malware - I don't buy software that by design stops functioning after some time period. And I'm even leery of that model for anti-malware (mostly because anti-malware itself seems to have become almost as bad as the problem it is supposed to solve).

styrobrain @Mike B, thanks, I see that I did understand you correctly.

@VSDC, now please clarify the applicability of "exceptional cases" and "really substantial reasons". Or, to rephrase, in the fine print it says "Transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed." Can I do that painlessly whenever I want?

VSDC @styrobrain

a) yes, you are right b) according to VSDC Terms "Each activation key is valid for two activations. It shall not make work by two users applicable but give you an opportunity to reinstall the VSDC Pro Video Editor in case of possible hardware or hard drives failures or upgrades"

styrobrain @VSDC, thanks for your response, but I still don't see my question addressed.

Let me again quote the "Fine Print" of this (!) offer:

#2 "VSDC Pro Video Editor Lifetime License is licensed per computer, and not per user."

#3 "Each license allows installation on 2 computers, and VSDC Pro Video Editor Lifetime License may be used at exactly the same time on each of them."

#4 "Transfer of a license to another owned computer is allowed."

#5 "Email license activation is required."

From your most recent answer I understand that the two activations are not supposed to enable two people to use the product simultaneously. I did not think about that, but now that you mention it, #2 and #3 seem to grant exactly that option.

But my concern is different. I use a number of computers and all of them are used exclusively by me. I'm not interested in editing video on more than one machine at a time. But I am interested in having the freedom to pick one particular computer to edit video on it... on any given day, for the example's sake.

Let's exaggerate slightly and say I have one computer per day of the week. On Monday I edit video on my Monday computer, on Tuesday I edit video on my Tuesday computer, on Wednesday... you get the idea. Nobody else edits video on any of the computers at any time. To use your product in this way, I'd have to conduct a "Transfer of a license to another owned computer" once a day.

So let me rephrase my question in three parts: a) Am I allowed to use your license in this way, b) can I do that technically and c) how complicated would that be?

#4 tells me I may and can do that. #5 tells me some overhead may come with it, your most recent post however seems to tell me that #4 (and also #2 and #3) are not true.

Per User This offer is for ver. 6.5.0. - some of us perhaps still own an old "Win XP gaming computer" put aside somewhere in the house. The serial recieved will work on ver. 6.4.2, the last version for XP (to be found on VSDC website)
I believe VSDC 6.4.2 is the ultimate XP video editor ever made, coming with color grading, green screen, video file conerter, stabilizer etc.
So if wanting to re-vitalize one of yesterdays XP machines todays BDJ offer is seen from my point of view very nice

Richard User BDJ really needs to fix the can't download with Chrome Browser problem. I have to jump through all sorts of hoops to get the trial D/L to download from the BDJ site. Multiple right click steps, including open in new window and then reload that... Seems like the eventual 64 bit TRIAL link is: https://downloads.videoso...or_x64.exe At the authors WEBsite, that is also the free version. Paying seems to enable many more and advanced features. I'm looking for something to replace an older NeroVideo which I use in "simple" mode. The BDJ one (VSDC Pro Video Editor) seems to do everything I need and more.

Jane Blue This is the same price your website shows.

Also, you need a better list of features and include examples. For instance, saying "trendy Instagram-like filters" tells me nothing. I don't have Instagram, and even if I did, your filters might not compare favorably. More specifics and I might have bought. Showing sells better than telling when it comes to visual effects--unless, of course, showing reveals a lack of quality.

Other items of interest: does it let you reverse a video clip? I'd have bought just for that feature alone. Does it have transitions, and if so, how many and which ones?

Try harder.

Fletch @Jane Blue - FYI, from their website I found a 'how-to' page that ended up revealing that they have an extensive YouTube library showing what this product can do. If the link below is not allowed by BDJ, just play the video above then click on YouTube to watch on YouTube. From there you can click their channel name to reveal ALL their videos. They have ALLOT of GOOD videos and as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Alok G >> Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for the lifetime of the product.

With the current version at 6.8, will the upgrades be limited to jus the versions 6.x only, or also to 7.x, 8.x and beyond?

I previously has 'lifetime' pro version 5.x which automatically updated to 6.x, and then turned back into the free version. I was later told that the lifetime part was only for the 5.x version numbers. Hence my question.

Thanks.

Fletch Pretty powerful tool which I've only begun to learn how to use. Their support has been better than I expected. Very responsive and helpful. Somehow, this editor is also able to handle the audio from some video files I have that Nero and PowerDirector can't handle. Glad I added this one to my toolbox.

John User This is a great deal on the lifetime license.

The vendor has been responsive to all sorts of questions and requests so thank you.
I rarely need a video editor so a subscription based program is not suitable for me and would prefer to pay a moderate price to own the software and pay for updates.

I was looking at many other brands of editors and VSDC seems to have everything the popular ones have.
VSDC has motion tracking and video stabilization which are important features for me.

Thank you for this most excellent value.

Ricky Rick As of June 30, 2022 The Fine Print says:

"Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for the lifetime of the product"

Their Website says in the FAQs: "7. Are there any restrictions for VSDC Pro Video Editor subscription? The subscription is valid for one year and can be used on two computers.

I'm confused.

What's the real-deal? Subscription based or buy once and own it for life with free major upgrades?

Thanks

Constantin Florea @Ricky Rick, The product website does sell the subscription based licenses. That is why they have terms related to the subscription.

However, we (BitsDuJour), during this promotion are promoting/selling the Lifetime upgrades license of the product. This license we're promoting is not even sold on the product website.

Also, please notice the note at the very top of the promotion page description which clarifies all this, specifically the note reads:
"
Please note folks: this offer is for the lifetime license which is not even sold on the product website.

John User I purchased this back in May after a bit of research. This is one of about 5 top end editors that are out there. It will do everything I will ever need it to do.

Chroma Key, Motion Tracking and advanced stuff that I have no idea what I would use it for.

I also checked my License in the Program and it says that it includes "Bitsdujour" as part of the license name so we essentially do have a special License.

This is about the best $20 you will ever spend on software.

The only problem I have had with it is that Windows buries in a folder named "flashintegro" in the start menu guaranteeing that you will never find it when you need it. That is a Windows problem with other software too. Maybe someone can recommend a solution here. It would also be nice if the term "Free: in the name could be dropped once we register it so we do not panic about the license.

So a big Thank You to Flashintegro for the outstanding value!

Dunking I purchased this from a Bits offer way back. I can confirm that so far all updates have been free, and apart from the app saying it's licensed to BitsDuJour I don't have an issue with that part at all.

I've also used a few other video editor, such as Vegas, Cyberlink, OBS, etc. I don't need an editor often, so it can be a bit of hassle getting back in the swing after a period of absence - the paradigm that the user interface works to, whether effects are a separate channel or overlayed or what. VSDC is no different there (but different!) but whenever I am stuck it is really easy to find a tutorial explaining the exact thing I am trying to do.

The only other editor I bothered to keep installed is Vegas, and since the last few times I've done video work I've just gone straight to VSDC I will probably uninstall that shortly.

This is a steal for Bits users.

Mr Dave Recommended. I got this from BDJ last year, well worth it! Program does so many things, most are easy to figure out once you get a feel for the screen layout and menus. There are videos on their site to help you learn. Program is a little harder to use than most that I've tried, but that's needed because it does MUCH more. It's fast to edit and generate videos, and it's never crashed on me. I actually enjoyed learning to use it!
