Gert Rijs I have been a customer of dataland software (makers of Web Log Storming - WLS) for years. Not only do they have great products (I use WLS and Agenda At Once) but they are a very "open" company, always listening to suggestions (and implementing several of them).

Why I use WLS and not, for example, a free product like Google Analytics...
* Google already knows tooooooooo much about me, I advertise with AdWords, use Google Checkout on occasions, they know what *I* search for.... Maybe a little paranoid, but I don't really believe their "do no evil" mantra.
* Having all those links (java script) to other websites (analytics) can cause slow pageloads for my site - kill all dependencies to other sites for a better user experience

Vladimir Radmilovic Hello,

Web Log Storming doesn't require you to modify web pages - it rather uses raw log files to generate stats.

Most hosting providers offer these for download and they're usually available via FTP or hosting control panel. If you can't find them, contact your provider's customer support and they should point you to the right direction.

Site license allows you to install and use software by multiple employees within same company or organization. There is no any feature differences.

Ulrich Can you please explain why this application does require administrative privileges? Well behaved applications should not require to be run as administrator, unless they make changes to the registry or to protected folders by the operating system, which clearly should not be the case for a product that just reads and parses log files. Additionally, I expect programs that require administrative privileges to be at least digitally signed, however yours comes from an "Unknown publisher".

Thank you for your question. Some settings and internal data are user specific, while others should be common for all users (you can see these folders by choosing Tools | Folders from the main menu in Web Log Storming). On some systems writing to common application data folder could cause problems, hence this requirement.

However, now that you brought this issue up, we might consider a different approach (for example, make all settings user specific, regardless of our initial thoughts). If you wish, we can make a quick build for you (or anyone else with similar concerns) with this requirement removed, so you can test it properly. Please let me know.

Bob S I would like to study the individual paths that a visitor takes through our website (not in the aggregate, but individual x individual). Two questions. 1. Is it possible to track the sequence of pages that an individual visitor visits? What feature in Web Log Storming would one use, and what would the output look like? 2. Is it also possible to determine the amount of time a particular visitor spends on each of the pages viewed? Thank you.

Vladimir Radmilovic Hello, Yes, you can see individual visitor's path as a part of a "Session details" report that you can reach by browsing through reports: click on bar/slice/item in any report to get list of related sessions, then click on the specific session. charlie arehart Vladimir, it's wonderful to see you responding so quickly to questions, and especially to your offering even a new build for non-admin users, per the request above from Ulrich. Way to impress people. :-) Here's another question for you: looking at the page comparing standard and pro, it seems that only pro offers a way to save any form of report: options to export, email, copy to clipboard, and print are all reserved for Pro. That seems a bit restricting. I can of course appreciate the need to save some features to the higher end version, and you clearly offer many. I'm just curious: is it that Standard has no means at all? Or is it that there is some option not lists, and those in Pro are on top of that? If it's that there's none, and the only way to view reports in Std is to view the app itself, would you consider offering at least *one* of the 4 options held in Pro, whether export, email, copy to clipboard, or print? :-) S orry if that sounds greedy/needy. I'm only asking because you've been so kind as to respond here, and this does seem to be a reasonable request (I think, of course!). :-)

@Bob: In the "Session details" report click on "Client IP" value to get list of all sessions from the same domain. Additionally, use View | Based on IP Only main menu option to consider all these sessions as one (concatenating).

Vladimir Radmilovic Web Log Storming works with any CMS. For best results, you should tweak SEO Settings for your website (to see human readable pages in reports, like "/my-page" instead of something like "/index.php?page_id=n"). Also, you should exclude some directories in Web Log Storming's Global Filters (such are "/templates/*" and "/components/*") to keep reports cleaner and improve performance.

Vladimir Radmilovic VLM, you are correct, to generate statistics, Web Log Storming uses raw web log files that you should download from your server (via web browser, FTP or automatically from WLS, depending on what your hosting company supports).

As of lifetime license, the price is same as a new license price. The upgrade link is dynamic and accessible from the application, so you can buy two new licenses now and I will send you lifetime registration key afterwards.

Jan-Christoph Ihrens @Ed Ward: The lifetime option costs as much as the program itself. If you want to buy a licence with the upgrade option, you'll have to pay twice the price of the program. To make it easier, you can therefore buy two licences and write a mail to Vladimir, in which you ask him to change this into a single licence with the lifetime option, if I understood it correctly.

Now I try for some logs I found some problems. I try to analyze web log by create new project many times, using same log files and change Read last xx days. In last few project it show error No log files to load. (Other setting are same)

As I see before error this software take me to see something I never see before. I will get one in Professional license.

Vladimir Radmilovic Best way to check if it's settings problem is to drag and drop a log file to Web Log Storming. If you see some data, then you should play with settings (like date or other global filters). If not, then it's a problem with log file format. In that case you can send us a sample file (or just few lines) by email so we can check it out.

Amit 1) Does this software tell reports like where the visitors spend most of their time or attention on the webpage - like which particular banner or image they keep much time on - or even say a particular text section or paragraph. Not clicking but like where they just spend their time mostly on - would be useful to know about what text sections or banners most intrest the visitors. And by common visitors and not registered users.

2) Also does it in any way help in security of the site ?

3) Also i guess from above - if one wants a lifetime license for pro - it would be that - buying 2 licenses of pro.

And for 2 users it wud be buying 4 total licenses - for lifetime of 2 different users. Right ? So would be $37 X 4 total, would that be right ?

Thank you for your questions.

1) Time spent exists as a value in Overview report, bug log files do not provide reliable information on this. More accurate algorithm would require using of JavaScript, which WLS currently doesn't support.

2) As WLS shows any hit to a web server, not just page hits, you are able to track down any suspicious activity (like attempts to access scripts directly, POST access...) and track down details of individual session. This would help you find a security holes on a website, forbid access from specific IP address, etc.

If you haven't already, I would suggest you to download trial version before final decision. It's specific kind of log analyzer and it would be best if you try it out and see if it suits your needs.

3) Yes, you are right: set quantity to 4 for lifetime licenses for two users.

Cliff Knight Because HTTP is a stateless protocol there is no accurate, or even worthwhile, way to determine how long a user spends on any page or object within a page. etc. Even if you were to follow and accumulate the activity thread of each connecting IP address the results would be questionable and likely useless as a reliable indicator of "time spent". Especially in this day of multi-tab and multi-window browsers.

The server logs can tell you when a user opened a page however the server has no knowledge that they closed it, or left it open in a tab or other browser window and moved on to something else.

For example, I often open up Google News in the morning and leave that tab up all day. This does not mean that I even looked at it over the 10 hours it was open--just that it was open.

Vladimir Radmilovic Cliff, thank you, you are right. There is a possibility to implement some kind of smart algorithm with JavaScript, that would take in consideration, for example, mouse moves, but for now, we haven't considered implementing it in WLS.

Amit, there is a tool from another company that is specialized in tracking mouse moves, scroll bar positions, etc, but it doesn't provide much of other analytics information. To avoid posting it here, if you are interested, please email me (office

Michael R. I bought this one on 19th February 2010 When seeing this offer, I tried to update my v2.x version to the newest version 2.8.1. But when starting it again, it seems my license did expire.

In the fine-print it reads upGRades are free within a year. Doesn't this indicate that upDAtes are free, i.e. all v2.x are free for v2.x-buyers? (If not, why wouldn't it read 'upDAtes are free within a year?)

Vladimir Radmilovic Michael, thank you for your comment and I'm sorry there's been a misunderstanding.

In short, we have decided to give free updates (at least) for a year regardless of version numbers because of how we numerate versions. As a matter of fact, in last several updates this policy is unofficially and temporary stretched to two years.

devo devo Hallo. I understand benefits of softwares like this against tools based on JavaScript. I would like to analyze direct log files at least for comparision.

But is it not a little uncomfortable to download log files from the server?

Is it necessary to download them to the local PC manually or it could be automatically (against a background)?

Is it necessary to downloag the whole (very big!) files again and again?

Or how to do it? What features in this directions the WLS can offer?

Thank you for your questions. Once set up, WLS can download log files automatically each time you run the analysis. Files will then be stored locally (it's okay if they remain zipped) and WLS will use them in the future, without need to download again. WLS will download changed files only, that is, files already located on the local disk will be skipped.

As I can see now, my provider has run under log files statistics by software Advanced Web Statistics 6.6 (accessed by online for me). Ok - do you see any benefits of WLS against this running statistics please?

You are probably already aware about well-known advantages (and disadvantages) of log analyzers over JS based analytics. Web Log Storming's advantage over other log analyzers (free or commercial) is that it allows you to interactively and "on-the-fly" filter out various segments. It also allows you to drill all the way down to the level of individual sessions and hits, so you can examine logs in more details. It doesn't just give you static reports with first few dozens items - it shows all data, even if there was just one hit/attempt.

In fact, the whole "interactivity idea" doesn't put much boundaries to what you can achieve, so it would be best if you can see a 6 minute screen cast (http://www.weblogstorming.com/demos.html) or check a trial on your own log files.

Robert User I purchased this program when offered here in June 2021. I received a link to download the program but when the download gets close to completion, it stalls. Trying to reach any page of the web storming website, the page cannot be loaded. The page reports "www.weblogstorming.com took too long to respond." I had so many things on my plate that I never got back to resolving the problem. I have been trying since this latest offer but I get the same errors. Since I cannot even reach the weblogstorming.com website, I have no other way to make contact. Honestly, I was surprised that the same issue I had nearly a year ago is the same as I get now. I have tried on Win 7 and Win 10, both clean systems. I have no idea why the download gets mostly downloading, then stalls. Most importantly, how can I download the program?
