What are people saying about Web Stream Recorder

M M I would like to record some regular shows broadcast by a local news station.
Can I schedule this software to do this periodically?
If so, what will it do when the connection is temporarily broken (it happens sometimes)? Will it resume recording after a few second when the connection is back? If so, will it create separate files for each piece of recording?

Max Smirnoff Yes, you can set up a scheduler in Web Stream Recorder, but current version will not resume recording after connection error. Looks like a good feature for Web Stream Recorder 2014, thanks :)

Mr. Storrs Hi,
I noticed in the promo video on this page that it was downloading only *.flv files. Does the program allow you to specify what type of file format you want to download ? (such as *.mp4, *.3gp etc.) Or does it only download *.flv files ? - Or in the case of other streaming media sites beside utube will it download only the default std. file format for that type of streaming media ?

In regards to quality, irrespective of which format is downloaded, does it allow you to specify the quality of the file you want ? or will it by default download the highest or the lowest quality file available ?

Thankyou for your help,
Mr. Storrs.

Max Smirnoff Mr. Storrs, the program is not limited to .flv files. It detects different stream types and the detection doesn't relies on the type of file only. It is better to test trial version with actual streams you want to record before you place an order.

The program has an option to download highest quality stream if several streams are present. However, this option works for YouTube only in the current version.

M M When do you expect to release version 2014? And will it be free or paid upgrade if I buy your software now?

Sep 20 2013 at 2:42pm Copy Link

Max Smirnoff I think we will release 2014 version in December. I guess there will be several minor updates too before we release it. Upgrade to 2014 version is free for those, who purchased 2013 version in the last 6 months before 2014 release. So, everyone, who purchase the license on BdJ offer will get 2014 version for free.

disenchanted 2 questions:

1. Does your software "extract" the actual media file like StreamTransport does?

2. StreamTransport can't "extract" encrypted streaming files like amazon ec2 cloud hosted files.
When faced with such a NON-extractable video, does your product just default to a real time recording of that video?
Example: a 10 minute video would requie the software to actual record for 10 minutes of real time.

Thanks for your time.

Mr. Storrs Hi,
I have downloaded the trial to try it. However, it is not functioning properly. For instance, I would like to download a particular utube video clip, however, when I go to the web page that I need t download it from, Web Stream Recording picks up and successfully records the utube ad that first plays before the actual video I want, but then does not pick up the actual video I want. I have tried to manually get to recognize the video while it is playing, it does not.

More to the point, I already have a brilliant utube video downloading program. I am only interested in Web Stream Recorder if it will do as it says it will do, and allow me to download the odd streaming video from other sites. I have tried this at another site or two and it is not working. It is installed and working fine with utube videos, however as I said thats not what I want it for.

The web page I would like to download from uses a 'JW Player" (adobe flash player based still as the right click information has 'JW player etc. then its says adobe flash player version no. etc)

Can you please help with this ? I am not spending money on an item if it want do what it says it will. I am happy to send you via direct e-mail the link to the page with the video clip I am trying to download if you like.

Sincerely,
John Storrs.

Max Smirnoff disenchanted, I looked at StreamTransport web site and it seems Web Stream Recorder do the similar task. It can capture the stream URL while running in the background and download that stream to the file.

Web Stream Recorder can't capture the screen it just downloading the audio/video stream. When the stream is encrypted (and decrypted in some flash player than), Web Stream Recorder will not capture it, I think.

Max Smirnoff Mr, Storrs, that is why I always recommend to try the trial before you purchase the program. I can't promise Web Stream Recorder will record everything, but we are trying to make it better with every update. And the page with the streams that can't be captured with current version is exactly the thing we need to make it better. Please send the link to us using the feedback form at http://www.bolidesoft.com/feedback.html

Thanks!

F.J. Garvin Can the software handle streams from Netflix? And does it capture the pre-rendered version of a stream of is it just a screen capture. That is to say, I tried another capture program and it grabbed just the active window as rendered on the display. So when I tried to later replay it with a different window size, it was just stretched blocks.

Max Smirnoff F.J. Garvin, Web Stream Recorder can't capture the video from the screen, it downloads the stream itself. I never checked it with Netflix, it is not available here in Russia, unfortunately.

VLM Max Smirnoff - It would indeed be helpful if this software could download streams from Netflix, also Hulu.

You wrote: "The program has an option to download highest quality stream if several streams are present. However, this option works for YouTube only in the current version."

Would be nice to enhance this capability, whether in 2014 version or later. Just my opinion/suggestion.

Rich OBrien Download and try Web Stream Recorder first. I tried it and I couldn't get it to record anything except its own website.

Software Babe QUESTION :
I would like to record streaming media from a website I subscribe to. Does your software allow you to embed your login/password when you schedule the recording? I am not always at the PC, but I have the link to my PAID AND SUBSCRIBED WEB SITE, in which I must login with a ID and Password. Will your software allow me to do this automatically at a specified time?

Thanks!

Max Smirnoff VLM, thank you for the suggestions!

Rich OBrien, in some cases it is a good idea to try alternative browser. Can you contact us via feedback form and tell your system version, browser and the sites you failed to download the video from? It will help us to fix the problem (I hope). Here is the link to the form: http://www.bolidesoft.com/feedback.html

Software babe, sorry, current Web Stream Recorder version is not smart enough for processing web logins. However, if some third-party can login and start video playback for you, Web Stream Recorder may record that video (you better test it with your actual stream before you place the order)

F.J. Garvin Netflix uses Silverlight. I check the pull down in the trial and it does not appear to support it. Probably cuz of DRM.

Mr. Storrs Hi Max Smirnoff, I have sent you a message using the feedback form link as you suggested above, and have included a copy of the message I sent you here for context.
Thanks for looking into it.
John.
