HKP I have chosen the lifetime license. When I enter the given login details, I got the message that the login credentials I entered are not valid. I shall contact the support for assistance by email. For I know from the past that this company ignore all emails, can BitsDuJour offer some help? It’s already pretty poor from this company to send not working login credentials.

Another question: Is there no longer a setup for a software included which can be installed on a pc?

And in the email I found a link for a setup too. This ansered my other question: Yes, there is still a software for installing on a pc included. I used this outstanding software already for many years until it becomes unaffordable a couple of years ago.

Thanks to your offer it becomes now affordable again.

Can the files and dictionaries be downloaded for offline use or does one have to be online?
is there a help file describing how to use the translator?

RC Concerning your EULA for the "Lifetime License" :

"FOR PURCHASERS OF ONE-TIME-PAYMENT, ONE-TIME-PURCHASE, LIFETIME OR EXTENDED LICENSES: This License shall be valid for six (6) years from the purchase date of the Software. For licenses purchased after September 2014, this License shall be valid for three (3) years from the purchase date of the Software and shall automatically terminate at the end of such term, unless earlier terminated as provided for herein."

So is it three years, or a lifetime? Does a "Lifetime License" include product updates for a lifetime?

Mar 11 2018 at 11:39pm Copy Link

2

JJ Menning After reading 'RC's' comment regarding the "Lifetime License", I can only wonder how a company in the business of selling grammar, spelling, and other similar language checking software can even think about misusing and abusing the term "Lifetime" in their promotional material but define it otherwise in their EULA. Makes me question the company's management ethics.

H. H. @ bitsdujour

Hallo,
I´m bdj user since many years and "discovered" some useful software via bdj. So first I´ll say thank you for the usually good work you do.

But, with the offer of Whitesmoke, I really would feel scammed in case the lifetime license only would allow using the software for 3 years.
That really can´t be true - a company dealing with language and dictionary using a word/term completely different from ordinary usage.
Regarding lifetime-licenses sometimes, there are differences regarding an update / upgrade policies (completely included or only for a certain period of time)
But however, I never found a lifetime license only being a 3-year subscription - that´s intentionally misleading and in case that´s really true one only can warn
not to support WhiteSmoke. There would be alternatives like the (inbetween) free grammarly.

As a customer, I felt a bit more protected when buying via bdj, since I thought, that such dubious misleading offers would not be part of the bdj offers.
Of course, you can not cannot guarantee for every seller, but to offer this as a lifetime license is hardly understandable.

So please try to clarify with the vendor
1. if the 3 years limitation will really be applied to bdj customers too (which would be very disappointed regarding bitsdujour reliability too,
- in the past vendors at bdj sometimes made more userfriendly exceptions from their ordinary policies for bdj-customers - hopefully whitesmoke will do so too)
2. in case the vendor really consists on the misleading "lifetime" term - if the "lifetime"-subscription would end after 3 years or automatically being renewed/ would have been to be canceled in order to prevent future charging

Thank you for clarifying in advance
with kind regards
H.H.

H. H. @Jonathan User

Thank you for your fast response and finding a fair solution.
Not only a good product, but also fariness and honesty are necessary for a good reputation of a company and recommandation by customers,
so the handling of the problem seems to be ok now imo and returning back to a behaviour of a serious company.

Nevertheless 2 questions:
1. will bdj customers get an additional confirmation about the lifetime-duration automatically?
I used another email account for making my purchase than the one I´´m registered at bdj.
Do I need to contact the support via the purchase-email address?

2. Regarding the translator question - until now I did not find any notice - perhaps because of the different purchase email-address?

thank you for clarifying in advance

RC "Lifetime" is still unclear to me: does it include -

1. the right to use the software for the lifetime of the user (not time limited) AND
2. all version updates for the lifetime of the user (not time limited, no additional payment)

for one payment of $79.99.

I inquired directly to WhiteSmoke about the Bitsdujour promotion, and received an offer from WhiteSmoke for $79.99, with three year version upgrades, per computer. ("computer", not "user").

This version and update stuff gets murky since some of it can be installed on the PC, and some of it runs in the Cloud. Presumably, as long as you have an active and valid account, and purchase the lifetime option, you can use the software for a lifetime?

I'm interested in purchasing this;

I will use this predominantly in writing an email (using Outlook and Gmail) and document (Word).

Does WhiteSmoke support undo (ctrl+z) and "Review" function on Ms Word? (with the competitor, such as Grammarly, they don't support this function)

Also, can I get the trial without supplying credit card?

Thanks

The software works perfectly with Gmail, Outlook and word. It does support the Ctrl +z undo shortcut and works great with the review options except track changes. We don't have a free trial however, you are fully covered by our money-back guarantee which you can easily get a full refund with only 1 email and no hassle.

We are confident here at WhiteSmoke you will really enjoy the software, and we look forward to having another happy user.

SoftCollector Hi there,

I have tried the online version and it has been something of a hit-and-miss for me. Legitimate words have been underlined as errors with the only option being to add them as new words (no ignore all option?).

Also, some of the suggestions showed that the software has misunderstood the text, as the suggestions were incorrect and would introduce an error.

How is White Smoke supposed to be better than the Microsoft spellchecker and grammar checker?

Best regards,

If the "WhiteSmoke Lifetime License ($79.99)" is purchased, is the user allowed access/installation of all three versions/platforms of the application, or is it limited to just one or two of the versions?
Please clarify, when you have a chance.

RC Thanks Hank for posting that about the BBB. Eight complaints against Whitesmoke does not necessarily damn the company but it does hint that users have concerns with expiration of the the lifetime option and lack of response by the company.

And yes, that "demo" leads to nothing but a short marketing video. I had to go to YouTube to see the software demonstrated as apparently the only other way is to purchase the software first.

And then there is this for the EULA and Privacy Statement:

EULA: "In the course of using the Software or the Service, text you create (which may include personal or sensitive information) is forwarded to Licensor for analysis."

Privacy Statement: "We will retain information transmitted to us in the context of use of Services (such as documents or text transmitted to us for analysis and correction) for further internal use in connection with our efforts to improve our Services and products"

So WhiteSmoke *retains* everything the product scans for grammar and spelling and plagiarism. I get it - the product scans text and what is scanned is used as cloud-sourced data to improve and tweak the software (you must be logged in to use the software). But imagine if Microsoft said that everything you write in Microsoft Word is retained by Microsoft.

Too many red flags for me.

Ricky Rick @Jonathan User/@ Shayne User

1). Does the desktop premium license have to be connected to the internet to be able to use it?

If it does - that means that every word of every book, report or whatever I write will all be placed in the cloud for analysis. I want my info private to my own PC, NOT uploaded to some cloud where everything is analyzed - and in my opinion - a breach of my PRIVACY as far as I'm concerned.

2). Is the Desktop version INDEPENDENT of the cloud when it comes to analysis BECAUSE it has its own built-in engine/algorithm for checking Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar and/or etc.?

I'm surely hoping the Desktop version has the analysis engine built-in and no need for the web -- otherwise - I won't buy - even though it looks to be a really good program.

Thanks,
Ricky Rick

Petr URGENT !! After reading the comments here earlier today, I was confident that the LIFETIME license purchase for $79.99 would be a true lifetime license. After my purchase, I sent an email to support@whitesmoke asking for their confirmation that I have a true lifetime license.

The email response I received today said, "Not true, you have a 3 year license... as I purchased thru their website..." If this support person was uninformed, then WhiteSmoke can correct their email to me and provide the license as promised in comments here by them. Otherwise, this is a scam by WhiteSmoke!!

I made a video here: https://www.screencast.com/t/3wl32Ky8hcs to show that clicking on [Get This Deal] at BitsDuJour takes me to the Plimus/BlueSnap website to complete the order. I have a BlueSnap receipt for my lifetime license. I expect WhiteSmoke to honor their promise as set out earlier in the comments on this page.

If WhiteSmoke will not honor their promise, I will be asking for my money back. In a fairness, maybe a WhiteSmoke employee responded to me, but I now need positive confirmation that my license is a true lifetime, unlimited years, license.

My purchase info: Order #: 115351616 Order Date: 18 Mar 2018

Robert User I purchased the software, When I click on the question mark at the top of the program, I expected a Help dialog would be displayed but nothing happens at all. If I click on the icon to the right of the question mark (there is no hover tip, so experimenting is the only way to see what it is for), it goes to the login screen. Since I was already logged in, I clicked on a different button, but then a screen pops up saying that my license has expired. From that the only thing I can deduce is that the icon to the right of the question mark is to sign out, and to continue using the program, you have to sign in again.

Still wondering why nothing happens when I click the question mark, I decided I needed to contact Whitesmoke Support. There isn't any clear option to contact Support, except on the bottom of the Contact page, there is a link to Support.

On the Support page, the user is asked to login. When I purchased the software, I was sent a password to go with my e-mail address, so I use that to login. Instead, the response: Invalid email or password.

There is a link for "Forgot password" but I did not forget any password because I have not set one up, and I have been given a password by Whitesmoke.

Since there is not an option to set up an account, I do not know how to get Support. To ensure others do not have to go through the same thing, maybe Whitesmoke can answer here for all.

As I mentioned you do get basic updates for life. when we upgrade our software we add new features and optimize the upgrade and this you don't get included in the lifetime license here. however for everything you get in the 2018 version it will always be updated (such as new detection of errors and updates to the grammar checking algorithm).

It works the same way as if you purchase office 2013 you won't get the 2016 free when they release it.

hope this clarifies everything. if you have any other questions we are here to help.

TESS273 I understand what you said. However, this is the question about Jonathan User's answer.

--------------
"Lifetime" is still unclear to me: does it include -

1. the right to use the software for the lifetime of the user (not time limited) AND
2. all version updates for the lifetime of the user (not time limited, no additional payment)
---------------

I think there is a huge gap between all version update and bug fix(including algorithm update).

Apr 11 2018 at 2:32pm Copy Link

1

Mike Murphy I disagree. ANY other software I paid extra for a lifetime license included ALL updates and upgrades to new versions. That's why I paid extra money. I have sent in emails to support and sales regarding problems I have with this program and asked for a refund as per your 30 day policy. I believe your explanation of Lifetime has really sealed the refund request.

As well, there seems to be 2 versions of this program, the 2018 version which I have major issues with, and the Writer Expert version, which seems to work. Why is there 2 versions, in which one works and the other doesn't?

I don't like to post this here, but I haven't heard a thing back from either of them and would like this settled. Is there any reason for not hearing from support?

SoftCollector "Lifetime upgrades" means upgrades for as long as the software title exists/is actively developed. WhiteSmoke vendors seem ignorant of the fact and imply that you can use the same version forever rather than be offered all new versions for free.

Also, I used the trial version and I did not find it more helpful than Word spell-checker and grammatical checker. A lot of false positives and inadequate suggestions.

People that support BitsDuJour are not as foolish as you might think. Everyone knows that if you use the term Lifetime and you do not spell out that all you are referring to are updates to the current version, then you are attempting to deceive.
