Doug Lietz Will this app let me do text edits using my own system installed fonts... so that the saved output files look like originals? The other competitive products I've tried, only allow for basic fonts like Arial and Times New Roman, which makes it really obvious that changes were made. I publish documents that sometimes need simple text updates, and it would be nice to do the changes right in the PDF environment, rather than having to go back to Photoshop where my originals are created.

1. That is not correct. The program has a number of functions. One of them is a "text" function. That function permits "adding" what looks like text, but is actually a text graphic. It does not permit you to locate the cursor in the middle of existing text, and then edit it as you would with a word processor.

2. Beware. This program also has a function call "redaction". Redaction is the ability to black put certain portions of existing text so that it cannot be seen by others who read the redacted version. When you use the redaction function of this program, it puts a black graphic on top of the text you want to redact. However, in the resulting pdf. if you highlight the redacted area, and "copy", the hidden text goes into memory and can then be seen by pasting it into a word processor or text editor. My point is that it is a pseudo-redaction. For legal and other purposes, an ineffective redaction can create significant trouble.

My comments are based upon a few minutes of testing the product. I have no idea whether there are other deficiencies.

That is not correct in your part 2. Redact function removes the text then put the black rectangle onto the area. You can try to draw the redact onto the text then save the file. Before saving the file, it will highlight the text to let you know what text you want to redact so that you will not make mistake on some important text.

1. As you know, there are several formats within the pdf system. One of those formats is pdfs created from word processor, text processor or other text based applications. These are the types of pdfs upon which redaction is primarily used.

2. I imported such a pdf into the win pdf editor application. I then redacted various part of the text, and saved the result.

3. I opened the resulting pdf with Adobe Acrobat. If the cursor is run across the area where there was formerly text and the copy function is used, then the underlying text is copied into memory and can be pasted elsewhere, thus defeating the "redaction".

4. After receiving your reply, I repeated the process and the results were the same. I also then, within Acrobat, used the editing tool. By using that tool, I was actually able to remove the redaction, exposing the original text. That is so because the "redaction" is simply a graphic that is superimposed on the underlying text.

5. I have now gone a another step further,. win-pdf-editor has an erasure tool. I used it to "erase" some text. I then imported the resulting pdf into Adobe Acrobat. Using the same procedure as in step 4, I was able to remove the "erasure", thus exposing the underlying text. That is because it is not a true erasure. It is merely a graphic superimposed on the text, and that graphic is removable,.

Redaction is generally used to keep important or embarrassing data private. There can be legal consequences if the redaction can be removed.

Erasure can before for the same purpose or simply to present a more suitable document. In either case, this erasure tool fails,.

I have not attempted to work with the other functions of the program
