disenchanted Maybe I missed it but I did not notice the licensing guideline for this product.

Can this software be installed on 2 computers, like a desktop and a laptop, as long as they are NOT both used at the same time?

Adam Bridge Hi Stephen - have just installed the software and seems to do the job well (but hard to tell as the demo is limited to 15 minutes). The one thing I don't like (apologies if I've missed some setting somewhere) is that there is no obvious sign that the software is working other than the red highlighted "Cancel" light. If the software stalled and didn't respond with an error message I wouldn't have a clue. As a suggestion perhaps implement a progress bar (or video preview or similar) to show the elapsed time and provide reassurance that all is working correctly. The program has started beeping at me now but the red "Cancel" light is still showing and the disk drive is still spinning so I have no idea whether its finished the job or not !

Cary Adams I have repeated problems with Wonderfox giveaways that "unregister" themselves. This is not due to updates, as my installed versions are the same as the original version.. I don't do that ever, and my firewall is set to require permission for connection to these products.

Today I opened my existing Wonderfox DVD Ripper to see how its version compared to today's BDJ offer, and I discovered it had unregistered itself (again). I also checked my Wonderfox HD Video Converter Factory Pro and discovered that it too had unregistered itself. If I try to re-register these programs using the original credentials, registration is disallowed. Very disappointed in you Wonderfox.

Both of these programs were installed on January 5, 2015. Only 2 months ago!

Please tell me how to prevent this.

This isn't the first time Wonderfox products have unregistered. And you'll find other reports of this. The Fine Print statement that "After you purchase WonderFox DVD Ripper Pro it may be used indefinitely" is not to be trusted.

I think that WF may have been the very first app I got from bdj and I thought it was fantastic... When I went to use it some time later it had "unregistered" itself! Checking other WF apps I had from bdj and found all of them were in the same condition! CRAZY!

Now all I get is these AMAZING offers from Wonderfox!

Looks like the vender has disappeared...

Lee Price I too have had numerous WonderFox apps 'unregister' themselves over the years.

I have installed them, registered them, played around with them for awhile after installation and all seems well; however, when I go back them in a couple of weeks or longer: they are no longer registered; they will not accept the registration number again and none of them have been updated or modified in any way after the initial install.

From what I've seen, you can pretty much count on this happening every time one of their apps is given away.

1. WonderFox software will not "unregister" themselves. Once register, you can use the software as long as you want. however, the giveaway version doesn't support upgrade, so the giveaway license key will be disabled after upgrade.

2. The giveaway license can be used during the giveaway event. Such as, the bitsdujour giveaway date is Mar 5, you can regsiter the software with the giveaway license key till Mar 8, then you can use the current version v7.2 for lifetime.

Todd K It may not be Wonder Fox that is trying to update itself, it may be your AntiVirus that's doing it. That's because nowadays some AntiVirus programs will automatically install updates to all your programs you have installed to patch up any back-door holes that hackers have found. Their thinking is there is less of a chance that your system will be hacked if you have all your programs updated with their latest security fixes - they don't realize that this renders giveaway programs as useless. Some of these AntiVirus programs have options to disable the automatic updates for all your programs. Try that to prevent future updates. For Avast, it's under Settings/Tools/Software Updater.

MscTch I have extensively used version 6.1 of WonderFox DVD Ripper SPEEDY from a previous giveaway...from somewhere...I believe here. Although obviously more limited, I was fairly pleased with that product. Today's PRO VERSION giveaway was however a real eye-opener on all that I was missing out on. The customization of this PRO version is outstanding and has finally pushed me over the edge to go ahead and purchase the "HD Video Converter Factory Pro + WonderFox DVD Ripper Pro - Discount Bundle".

I do however want to point out that although it is very easy to use, it requires a bit of experimentation with the output settings to find the truly BEST settings between the following 3 items: Video quality, Audio quality and File Size. It isn't always as intuitive as one would think. I give only one example, to keep the discussion from getting too confusing.

One reason I purchased the PRO bundle was to improve my video quality. There was a very noticeable difference between the VIEWING Audio quality in this the following Output Profile scenarios:

1st Scenario
Format; Video - MPG (w/ High Quality/Low Speed}
DEFAULT Video Codec: Smart Fit
DEFAULT Audio Codec: Smart Fit
Output File Size: 2.27 GB

VERSUS

2nd Scenario
Format: HD Video - MPG HD (w/ High Quality/Low Speed)
DEFAULT Video Codec: MPEG2VIDEO
DEFAULT Audio Codec: AC3
Output File Size: 3.50 GB

Although the 2nd scenario gave me the desired 720x1280 VIDEO resolution, the AUDIO was noticeably inferior (if not terrible) compared to the 1st scenario's 480x720 VIDEO resolution with fantastic AUDIO quality. VIDEO quality for both given resolutions were very good; however, the AUDIO qualities for the given DEFAULT audio codecs were very different when heard. My point being simply this. When I move up to HD VIDEO, it seems like there will have to be experimentation away from the DEFAULT AUDIO codecs in order to get respectable audio quality AND justify the larger file size. In other words there is nothing worse than jumping up to HD quality rips but having inferior audio quality when using the HD VIDEO DEFAULT settings. So while using default settings make things easier, you would be wise to compare BOTH audio & video output products before settling for what you may think is acceptable.

Having said all that, I love the fact that there is indeed a large number of settings and customization to work with on this PRO version. To get things perfect, you may need to spend some time seriously comparing output products when jumping up to HD VIDEO. That's where I have some work to do to find my happy medium. Maybe someone can offer some real experience on the "HD VIDEO" settings specifically in regard to the audio codec settings. For example, I noticed in my first scenario that the Audio bitrate output was 448kbps @ 48 kHz. In the second scenario, the Audio bitrate output was 192kbps @ 48 kHz. Remember however that BOTH scenarios were DEFAULT Audio codec settings. That seems counter-intuitive to me. Jumping up to HD VIDEO MPG (given the same High Quality/Low Speed settings) gave noticeably inferior audio quality.

Again, this PRO version here is very nice. As much as I use this type of program, jumping up to the TRULY discounted bundle was a no-brainer. It ranks right up there with Hard Disk Sentinel as among my top finds here that I've gladly paid to upgrade.

192 kbps is best choice for 6.1 channels audio
448 kbps most used on DVD audio

John Reeves As advised, I deleted my working version 6 of WonderFox DVD Ripper (I think it was the pro version) using the uninstall.exe file in Program Files -- my copy of Revo Uninstaller Pro is not working for some reason. Then I installed today's version 7.2. Installation went OK, but the word REGISTER was greyed out --- so I could not activate.

I tried installing on my second laptop, and there were no problems -- installed and activated OK.

My guess is that something remained of v6 that is being picked up by the install of v7.

I am very disappointed.

Currently I am looking at "HD Video Converter Factory Pro" from WonderFox - I always save the data so I am looking at the folder which I saved the bdj of this app.

It was from about Jan26, 2014. I registered it properly and used it. NOW it is showing the "Register" button with the key symbol. I had others that I simply removed from my PC. I found other apps that did not UN-Register themselves!

It is very odd that so many would report this, as Cory has posted it is all over the place, but you seem to believe it is not accurate! Please Believe! It is true!

For me, I really do not care! I have many other options. Just to give you the info that your apps UN-Register themselves so that you know something is WRONG! OK?

MscTch I am here to verify the same issue that @John Reeves has reported. I have not been able to properly register the PAID upgrade of this PRO version because it already shows as registered. That registration however is the FREE pro version offered earlier. Therefore it is not and apparently cannot be properly registered as it is. I used CCleaner to verify the installation along with anything it could pick up as leftover registry entrees. I've tried numerous uninstalls, reboots and reinstallations without being able to successfully enter my proper paid version registration info. Something is definitely amiss. I need to be enlightened as to how to do a proper registration of my paid version that is not currently being allowed. To clarify, although it is greyed out and registered. It is NOT the proper version.

Craig S. I find Wonderfox's product offerings extremely confusing. What is the difference between DVD Converter and DVD Ripper? Do you have a comparison matrix on your website (I can't find one)? There seems to be a lot of overlap in these two products, as well as with HD Video Converter. Even after visiting the website and reading the product descriptions I can't find a simple explanation of what's missing/included with each product in comparison to the others.

Mr Dave Does this let me rip a DVD to a format that can be watched on a PC, with same resolution, FPS, etc., as the original DVD? I know I'm old-fashioned, but I see no reason to watch DVDs on a tiny phone screen.

It appears that if you obtain 'DVD Video Converter' it performs 2 more functions than the lesser 'DVD Ripper Pro' every other function listed matches so why bother with DVD Ripper Pro? In fact why boither paying extra for both products bundled at $18.95 ? When you can do everything Ripper does all within Video Converter, and the licence for Video Converter is less at $14.95 !?!?!

There must be more to this, but when you look at the range of software products on the website there is another 'Video Converter' under the 'Video' tab. Utterly confusing and considering I was going to purchase the bundle, but have now decided against it as I am not really sure of the difference between the bundled software and what I am actually getting for my money.

Confusion reigns !!

Doris Ballard Already had a previous version. Since the email said that installing a new version would invalidate the old license key, I assumed that it was OK to overwrite the program with this new version, since I had a new license key ...

... however ...

... once i had it installed, it told me that I had "Invalid registration information". So I then uninstalled the entire mess, and started over again from scratch. It still gave me the same message. I had copied/pasted the registration from the email both times, so that, at least, should not have been an issue.

Could you tell me what I should do at this point? Thanks for your time and trouble.

Greg Newell Vendor said that if "Register" is grayed out, software is already registered and should work fine. Not sure why since I never entered license code (unless it picked up prior install...) but no complaints.

Paul User the deal for the ripper and converter combo doesn't say anything about needing to register and install within three days OR that you need to PAY for UPGRADES in the offer.
However, once you pay for the deal it then tells you these things. I feel like i was deceived because this information was not available before i paid!!!

Doris Ballard @Paul User ... if you look above at the blue tab you clicked on to get to the comments, there are two other blue tags beside it ... one says "Features", and one says "The Fine Print". Under fine print, among other things, it says:

- You must install/register the software within 3 days, and cannot do so afterwards.

- Upgrades to future versions of the software will require additional payment.

Might do well to check out the "Fine Print" before downloading stuff ...

Paul User @Doris and Devs, Normally I would agree however, since the other version stated clearly in the description that "paid upgrades" and "must be installed in 3 days". So, I don't agree. Seems a bit deceptive to me and inconsistent.

Since I have not installed the software yet I would like the chance to either get a refund or transfer it to a version which includes free upgrades and doesn't require it be installed in 3 days.

Doris Ballard @Paul User ... what I'm talking about is how BDJ places the information about each and every software that is offered through their website. It's not a choice made by the people who write the software ... they provide BJD with the information, and BJD posts what they're given. They're all posted in the same format.

The version of the software you're getting has nothing to do with it ... the software itself has nothing to do with it ... the people who created and offered the software have nothing to do with it ...

The above tab style posting, (white on blue tabs just immediately above the comments, as seen on this page) is where you have to ACTUALLY LOOK in order to see what the software creators are saying about what they're offering. It not only lists the features, but also gives the FINE PRINT, which is what you're saying wasn't present.

This isn't an "agree or disagree" sort of thing ... it's just an effort to get you to LOOK so that you'll SEE what they're actually saying about their product next time you want to get something through the BDJ website ...

Serious Noize Already have this version. Just wanted to say that it is the best! I also have WinxDVD Ripper but recently ran across a DVD I purchased that WINX would not rip at all, Wonderfox DVD Ripper ripped it perfectly and actually made it look better in the process! I never reply to softwrae's like this because 9 times out of 10 they are hype without keeping their promises. I would like to say that Wonderfox DVD Ripper DELIVERS an does what it say and exceeds those promises, it simply works and it is the best of all of them!

Serious Noize I was wondering, what can this do that the free and open source "Handbrake" using the free "libdvdcss-2.dll" can't do? I tested the last offering by Wonderfox which for me was "WonderFox DVD Video Converter". I thought I would backup/preserve my DVD library but it failed when it come to a movie I own on DVD but it failed on one particular movie which I wont mention here, but Handbrake using the libdvdcss-2.dll worked perfectly. And to be honest, Handbrake seemed in the end to be faster at ripping the DVD.

Don't get me wrong at all, I am not knocking the product, because for those who don't know about things this is a real convenience and 99.9% of the time works and is simple.

But I am asking "What can this do other than convenience that Handbrake using the libdvdcss-2.dll library can't do?'.

Thank you for the offerening. And on a side note, WinX's Dvd ripper failed on the DVD also, but Handbrake as I mentioned worked.

I would also like to ask, is it possible to add yourself the libdvdcss-2.dll to this giveaway on your own? Or in other words can you simply copy it to the home directory of the software and it will use it?

Either way, thank you for the opportunity and to anyone reading this don't let it turn you off of the software, for the most part it works great, but I am asking for more information.

Thomas User Although H.265/HEVC has been standard for 7 years, this software apparently still does not support this encoding: only other codecs are mentioned on their website.
So it's better to buy another SW and save a lot of disk space.

John Campbell Downloaded and began install. Discovered that it is version 18.8 which I already had installed. Also, have discovered that frequently on this site I have to open the download link in a new window. To do this I right click on the "if you do not see it, click here" link and select "Open in new window" and hit the "Refresh" icon in the upper left hand side of the screen, just left of the URL address bar. Hope this helps!

Constantin Florea @Tee User, The giveaway code is only for the title offered for free during this giveaway which is DVD Ripper Pro, not for HD Video Converter Factory Pro.

There is an option (among the purchase options) to purchase a paid code for HD Video Converter Factory Pro.

Tee User Then why do I have download links for both programs in my receipt email? It makes it very confusing. it makes it look like the code will work for both of the programs.

When I click download your software it takes me to it field which has links to both softwares.
