Roc Assisi Just tested this software. It managed to merge-convert, a video (flv) that was downloaded in several parts from the web, into one AVI with very clear video; the resulting audio was exceptionally louder and richer sounding than the original. Very nice! I have bought various video-related programs, ie Aiseesoft Total Media Converter, iSkysoft Video Converter, Nero Platinum, VSO Downloader and am looking to purchase a software that can combine the downloading prowess of VSO Downloader, the DVD authoring prowess of ConvertXtoDVD, and has video and audio editing capabilities that are simple to learn and use. So far, various programs I've tried lack in some ways, ie, Nero is bloated and has an interface that I hate, iSkysoft comes with a web download browser plug-in that caused my gmail and yahoo mail to reload constantly, etc.. Just some feedback for developers and users..

Louis H @Sue James There is a minimal Comparison Chart here.... http://www.videoconverter...converter/ I am finding other differences as I experiment with the full free version given here and he trial version of the DVD version. On the surface it appears that there is only one main difference. The DVD version can rip protected DVD's. I am finding speed variations and size variations when I convert the same file using each program. These are not consistent. Some clips end up with a smaller size using the DVD version and some do so using the HD version. This is with all settings the same for each program. Straight forward conversions with both programs are very fast, but if I make any edits to a video clip this adds to the time, which of course would make sense. This time element appears, so far, to be consistent with either program. I am taking some old videos with poor quality and running them through HD Video Pro versions using the sharpen effect with very good results. I am going to pick up one or the other versions today for the excellent pricing and Life-Time Upgrades. I am just not sure which one to go with. I don't need the ripping of protected DVDs, but I'm still trying to determine what, if any, real differences thee are in the heart of each program. "Seems to have" is the operative phrase here. I've been working with both the HD and the DVD versions. (I went ahead and purchased the DVD version today. If nothing else, i now have a one year free version of HD and life time updates for the DVD version.)

I tend to collect DVDs that are only available in other Region formats. Foreign films and TV shows.

(It still saddens me that so many excellent films and TV series - many of which far surpass the quality of most of what gets aired on US TV - would likely never see the light of day where I live EXCEPT for the Internet. When will they realize that not only would it attract more viewers - and we all know viewers attract advertisers - but it would actually INCREASE their profits if they would choose to finally get rid of the restrictions that do not allow for international streaming and viewing of TV shows no matter what country they are produced/released in? Ok. Back to the actual topic of this excellent program!) ;-)

I once had a DVD player that could read any region discs, but the one I use now does not do so. I have used DVDFab in the past - (still do) - for making a conversion that will play on my Region 1 player. (I would gladly purchase these discs if the companies would make them available in Region 1, but I've already done my rant about that. ) DVDFab can sometimes take what seems to be forever to do its thing. So I decided to go ahead with purchasing the DVD version as my one day testing does show a noticeable decrease in the time it takes to rip a DVD.

I am seeing more than this as the difference, however, between the HD and DVD versions. Perhaps it is not having the code and codecs built in that makes the HD version faster, generally speaking, in its conversion process, but I am finding that there is definitely a difference in speed. I am also seeing the HD version appearing to be able to provide me with smaller size files after the conversion than the DVD version does. This is not, at least within the time I have spent playing with both programs, consistent however. I check to make sure all the settings are the same, but the same video using the same settings appears to be offering me a difference of 30 to 50 percent difference in final size of the output. So I may pick up the HD version as well today. The speed difference would be worth the extra $15.

I do not have the need for the video filters in the edit mode, per se, as I have other video editing programs with much more power and flexibility, but I do like the Sharpen Effect as it has worked very well in clearing up some older blurry videos I have collected over the years. I have a number of old TV shows from a company that did a fairly good job cleaning the old "off the air" recordings of shows that are not otherwise available in any form, including VCR. Some are still, however, somewhat blurry. So far both the HD and DVD versions have been able to make a noticeable difference between the original and the converted video. For $15, that alone was worth the purchase of at least one of them.

It is my understanding that the "Merge" feature is more advanced and powerful in the HD version than in the DVD version. Not sure why, but I cannot confirm this as I have not played around with that feature yet.

So it all comes down to what your needs are. If you are only going to buy one of the two then consider the following....

If you are going to be ripping and converting your DVD collection, then I'd say go with the DVD version, at minimum. That is the main major difference.

If this need does not exist, then go with the HD version. I am finding it faster and with what appears to be a more powerful engine for converting videos. As I mentioned above, it may be due to what the developer did not have to include in the program that makes it a bit more streamlined and powerful. Sort of like making the difference between buying a more gas efficient smaller vehicle for short trips with few passengers, or needing to go with a larger vehicle with less gas mileage because you have to carry the larger family around as well.

I have lots of different image manipulation programs. Sometimes I find a smaller specialty type program actually does what I need much faster than when I use far more powerful programs such as Photoshop or Lightroom. This is why I am leaning towards picking up a copy of both of these programs today, especially in light of the Lifetime Updates offer.

I am not affiliated with either BDJ or the vendor of this product.

I have a few .WTV files and while both of these (HD and DVD) programs convert the video part of the file without any problems, neither automatically handles the audio well at all. I have played around with different settings, but in the short time I have been experimenting with the WTV format, I cannot find a setting that works. Perhaps someone else may know how to set the audio to get it to work.

While these programs do have a built in ability to recognize the older .dvr-ms format, there is no built in recognition for the .WTV format. Perhaps the developer would consider adding it in future updates? I had to set the Open Dialogue box to look for "All Files" in order to load the WTV file. Both HD and DVD versions loaded it without problems and, as I said, they convert the video itself very quickly to any of the offered formats. The problem they appear to have is with identifying and converting the Audio portion of the file.

Looking at the Tech Spec tab for each of the two versions, it appears that the difference is that the HD versions allows the following outputs...

Video(1080P HD)
HD AVI, HD MP4, HD MPG, HD WMV, HD MKV, HD MOV, HD TS

in addition to the following....

Video(Normal)
AVI, MPG, MP4, FLV, SWF, WMV, MKV, MOV, M4V, ASF, DV, 3GP, 3GP2

Video converter only allows the Video(Normal) outputs.

So it appears that if you want the HD 1080P output you need the HD version.

It would be very helpful if this vendor would make a full comparison chart of all versions of these programs. The info is there, but you have to open up each programs page and examine the Tech Spec tab for each to see what, if anything, is different. Even that, however, does not appear to always tell the complete story for one to know what is different in each version.

I have one more question: Frequently I need to insert a patch from one recorded TV file into another in order to make one good recording. Most of my recordings have AC3 audio, but some of them have AAC. When I've attempted to convert the audio in HD Video Converter, I'm allowed to choose AC3 for my output, but so far the resulting files invariably have had AAC audio. Am I doing something wrong?

Whilst I can appreciate that Bits Du Jour freebies don't always qualify for a minor upgrade to the current version I do think it is unreasonable that you can only install during the promo and therefore if you have a problem needing a re-install at some time in future such as a reinstall of Windows or an issue with the program itself requiring reinstall that you can no longer use the program. I wish BDJ would revisit this policy as it deters me from installing the software in the first place and surely this then doesn't give the company promoting the software the advertsising exposure they are after - eg for users to use and subsequently pay for an upgrade or new version ?

Petronius Arbiter II I downloaded this one and got the registration code before I realized I had already downloaded and installed v6.4 in the January promotion. Looks pretty good, but I haven't done enough with it to get much of a feel for it.

There's not enough new here for me to want to bother to upgrade. Am I safe in assuming that downloading v6.5, but not installing it, will have no effect on my currently installed version?

The 50X conversion speed only for few formats AVI, MP4. MKV, MOV and M4V.

For example: convert a MP4 to MKV video (1280*720/2GB/120 minutes) only 5~10 minutes. O quality lose.

Very fast conversion speed. It makes use of my 2 cores properly. Video accelerated encoding properly detected on AMD. So thumbs up.

One minor problem. How to apply a setting to all videos when I load multiple videos.
For example, mkv files with 2 audio files will load first audio track. If I select the second one, how to apply the setting for all files? Thanks.

EDIT2:
There is no pause button while an encoding is in progress. Did I overlook it or is it not available?

EDIT3:
Cancelling conversions in progress does not delete partially created files.
Good for speedy conversions but these 3 minor issues is a bit annoying. Thanks.

It does not work when you select audio from an MKV file. The audio must be individually selected for all files. Is there a way to apply setting the selected audio track to all files being encoded?

Tien Nguyen My father always tells me to have a backup just in case something happens down the line. As long as it works, it looks like this program is a winner. I still have version 6.4 installed. It is a little slow however I like it that way. I look at my parents and grandparents and see they take their time and are fine. Sometimes we young crowds think we know better than them. I once just placed thirty items to be converted at once. They were all small items however all went well. As always, as a programmer once, I know their sometimes can be hundreds or more lines so we can make mistakes. So have both as a backup. However, if you do not get this offer and have to buy it later, I can only tell you I have only tried this one and really enjoy it. Better safe than sorry as my one friend of a friend once said.

MountainKing @Stephen: When you have multiple MKVs loaded and select an audio track from the first MKV, the other MKVs audio remains at the original track.

You have to manually change the remaining audio tracks in the MKVs. I did not encode the MKVs to test if it actually changes the audio for the remaining files.

However, if it does that, it is something you might want to correct. A user might want to have an option to apply the change to ALL MKVs or SELECTIVELY choosing one language over another.

Don Zapper I bought this at version 6.5 and with each new version a new registration code is required. The FAQ says to go to Support Center and retrieve the latest Download URL and registration code. There is a box that says "Retrieve Registration Code" but I get NO reply when I enter my email address so I send an email to order@..... and so far I have received the required registration codes.

My suggestion to WonderFox is to make the old registration code continue to work like most software OR automate the procedure. It must be time consuming to reply to thousands of emails every time you update.

I was very careful in looking over the Fine Print and was surprised to read that this software said "License activation isn't required"!

OK... so I downloaded it onto my Mac and got all the correct license code. Put the downloaded app and license code into a folder and copied it all into a USB drive. Copied it all onto my PC.

I looked and discovered that I did have a registered version (6.4) from a BJD freebie in Jan 2014 - which must have been a non-activation required so = OK...

I installed todays version and copied/pasted the activation code. Guess what? Something is wrong! I am guessing that License Activation is necessary!!!

So, I am out of the 6.4 version as it was overwritten and now have an unregistered version worth nothing to me.

I have tried a number of times. No extra spaces - just the activation code supplied with email.

Was there a mistake made with the Fine Print? Am I out of my 6.4 version which was overwritten by this mistake?

Is someone going to make this correct? btw, I don't let my PC go online - only my Mac so if there is any way to fix this... would be very thankful.

Two 15 min clips = one 30 min Merge took over an hour!

The output was very good. I didn't play with the setting much. I have gotten very good output with faster merges but I will say this merge was the same quality and at a smaller file.

btw, the fans were blasting away for the full hour which I have also never heard while doing these conversions/mergers - so...

But isn't this contrary to the License Policy stated on their website which says: "Our products on one computer, for any legal purpose, at a time. PL I'm using the free version, I've bought the lifetimeupdateversion, but I can't change the regkey.

But I've just found out, it can't do what I need it to do, I have a bunch of MKV files I would convert to other formats, and that is not possible, I get all kind of errors and even crashing.

I've asked for a refund, hope that is possible, as I have not yet used the key.

PL I'm really not after another program, just wish I could use this, and it looks like I should be able to do "MKV to abc" but I get errors if I try.

If I right click and pick "Source file information" all is ok, but the main-program has duration to 00:00:00 and that is the problem, see picture for info.

Steve Smith When it comes to WonderFox software I have found that the "Smart Fit" settings are not the best. I changed the settings to reflect what I thought would be a good output and I am in the process of converting a MKV file to an AVI file. So far there have been no problems (35% done).

Steve Smith I stopped the conversion to check out the end result. It looks good. The volume level is a little bit lower than the original and the output video hesitates a little but really nothing major. No errors. Maybe your MKV file is corrupted.

PL If it just was that easy, but it's not working for me, all my MKV files are shown as 00:00:00 durationtime, you can see it in the snap I've made, there is no way I can set the durationtime, so the program gives me an "file empty" error.

Cary Adams @ Chen Stephen... I finally discovered why my Wonderfox software mysteriously gets unregistered on my laptop. Apparently Wonderfox software stores its registration code within the /Documents/Wonderfox Software folder which is created during installation.

Since I reassign all its video output folders to a video partition away from my Documents folder, I've naturally deleted the Wonderfox folders under the Documents folder... and in doing so, deleted my registration.

I'd like to see this essential registration info stored either in Window's registry, or withing the program folder, rather than cluttering the Documents folder. Perhaps that is something to consider for you product line.

Thansk for this fine offer. Now I can get away from all those "Easter Eggs" :)

How to COPY & PASTE the Registration Key #:

Copy & Paste probably didn't work because you used your MOUSE and right-clicked to paste (that didn't work for me either). My OS is Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

What I did - was Copy to Clipboard then press the "Ctrl and V" on my keyboard and it pasted as it should.

Hope this helps someone else. It's frustrating having to manually type-in loooooooong registration codes.

Peter Laszlo I installed the software and it does not seem to work. I tried to convert a 10 minute .avi file to .mp4. Two hours later it was still sitting on 26%. Tried again, result almost identical. Maybe I am stupid, but I could not find any traces of the simple editing options.
Awful interface, obviously some software authors and I include Microsoft in this category, have never heard of intuitive software and intuitive menus.
A properly written piece of software will be able to be used by experienced users within a very short time.

Overall I will put it into the same category as other "el-cheapo" packages not produced in the U.S. If a software package does not perform in the first 10 minutes, than it goes into the garbage bin.

Bill Webster This is VERY DISSAPOINTING. I finally received the Key and when I copy and paste into the registration field and click Register I get an error message that says, "Invalid registration information." Upon further examination the code I was given is for WinX HD Video Converter Deluxe and the offer is for WinX HD Video Converter PRO 10.0. WHY THE BAIT AND SWITCH?? Very unprofessional!

John Gallagher I successfully registered the free version, and after converting a file, I got an ad pop up from Avangate enticing me to buy the "full version - you'll really like it" for $24.95, which I did - and low & behold, the downloaded setup file is exactly the same. So I tried to enter the new code in the installed version, but the register option is greyed out. Totally Unscrupulous & a Total Rip Off!!!

HKP I cannot confirm that the offer for zero dollars does not have more functionalities than the trial. After unlocking the software with the key, you received by email, you can also convert longer video files without restrictions. I’ve just converted a movie from MP4 to AVI. I got an excellent quality, a conversion of the full length and the result was free of a watermark, what usually would be the unwanted add-on, if the software behaved like a trial still after unlocking. On the clean interface, I could easily set the wanted resolution: 400p, 720p, 1080p or 4K. Still another point: It does not matter if the license was granted for only one year. WonderFox always offers newer versions of this converter somewhere for free. For the same reason, it doesn’t matter if you can get updates.

sorry, but your information about versions is INCORRECT!!!
I had the 18.6 installed, uninstalled it with Revo! Imagine if you were correct!
The typo problem is in the e-mail sent by Bitsdujour,in which it is stated, in the downloading option --> Download WonderFox HD Video Converter Factory Pro 18.0 (Paid license). Same in the last screen presented after all steps for downloading are completed.
It is actually the 18.9 version and it is the paid version, BUT it is unlocked, from free to Pro, with the provided key.

Rick User Downloaded, installed and activated. No issues. Tested it and it works fine, converting more than 5 minutes, but it does say it is an evaluation version at the end of conversion. Seems to have all the features of the registered version. I have been using an older version of this program and it is by far the fastest and best I have used. Highly recommended.

Johnny User I've been a paid user since 2015, after a previous free trial. The program continues to be supported and updated to-this-day. I don't remember the last time it crashed (or if it ever has). After adding my Nvidia video card last year, the encode speeds skyrocketed, which made me even happier. It's an excellent program, even if you're paying for it. I liked it so much, I also purchased the DVD Ripper Pro. It's also been trouble-free, though I don't use it nearly as often- DVDs were a bigger thing for me back in 2015. As a freebie, this is a total no-brainer.

Steven Feldman I bought a Lifetime License of this software five years ago. It's great. Just be sure that when you use the converter to customize the Total Bitrate of a video, remember to match the original video's total bitrate, Otherwise, the size of the file could quadruple. I use this program all the time to change the volume of sound files, too. Great.

SoftCollector I have the WonderFox DVD Ripper Pro and have been using it for many years now. It is a capable software title both as a converter and video downloader. A few pesky UI errors need to be corrected (and have been around for a long time) but apart from that, WonderFox DVD Ripper Pro downloads files from sites where other downloaders fail and offers reliable video conversion where more famous software titles fail. The other purchase items in the promotion (except for the first purchase item) don't always have the same license policy applied to them as is the case here.

The Lifetime version you have purchased can be installed any day you want to.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to perform a clean reinstall:

Step 1: Please uninstall HD Video Converter Factory Pro from your computer via Apps & Features.

Step 2: Then manually delete the "HD Video Converter Factory Pro" folder from the following location (this step is crucial to clear old settings and leftovers):
C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\WonderFox Soft\

As the "AppData" folder may be hidden by default, you're recommended to copy and paste the above path to your file explorer and just change the "YOUR_USERNAME" part to access it.

Step 3: Restart your computer (if possible).
