DrTeeth This is not a free offer, it is just a long trial. Pass!

Robert Chan I agree with DrTeeth. But the one thing I like about this program is that it opens fast! And I think that maybe after one year I can switch back to OpenOffice.

eb235 I had a look at Kingsoft's website : they do sell a one-year licence to their suite. So it **is** a gift.

What I was looking for on the website is whether the programs stop working after one year of use or revert to the free version of the suite (BTW the pro version adds VBA macro capabilities and saving to the Microsoft Office 2007 formats : docx, xlsx, etc.)
I couldn't find an answer to that (and no mention either on what happens to the programs at the end of the 30 day trial).

I'm not sure I'm ready for a one year suspense !

WPS Office Hi eb235, After one year, the software will turn into a viewer. And of course, you can choose to switch to the Free version, which could be downloaded on the official website. http://www.ksosoft.com/pr...ffice-free The same situation to the 30 day trial.

Jackie Boy, I don't know about everybody else, but this site sure freezes up on IE8. I have to wait real long for it to move. But, it's better on Firefox. Least they know what they are doing. Microsoft is slow.

WPS Office Hi Jackie, normally our website doesn't have problem on IE8, I'll try it on my side. and sorry for the inconvience brought. Yes, Kingsoft Office takes less system occupancy, and run faster. Actually the Kingsoft file format is smaller than Microsoft Office format. I mean, the same content, if you save it as .wps format, other than .doc format, the file size will be smaller.

WPS Office Dear DrTeeth, the one year license cost $29.95 USD on our website, and many of our users would like to buy the one year license first and if they're satisfied with our product at the end, they will only need to pay the differences to get the life-term license. And the one year license is to reduce their risk. This time we giveaway the one-year license for free, in order to let more users try our product. And if you don't want to buy the license at the end, you can switch to our free version conveniently.

WPS Office Hi Stephen, normally, users who bought the one-year license, if they want to upgrade to the full license, they need to pay the differences that would be $40. But this time, we integrate the giveaway promotion with the 50% discount promotion. That means if you would like to buy the full license now, you only need to pay $35.

WPS Office Hi Tim, different products have different advantages, so when you choose a product, what value most will help you make the decision; Compared to Openoffice, Kingsoft Office is much similar to Microsoft Office, from interface to functions. Bernhard The Fine Print here says "Kingsoft Office Suite Professional 2013 (One Year) is licensed per computer, and not per user." but there is no information on how many computers and if an activation can be moved to some other machine.

There also is no information if an activation with hardware footprint is required.

On http://www.ksosoft.com/of...je6C2WkKM4 there is stated that a license is valid for 3 PCs. Does this apply to this offer?

Last question: Can Kingsoft Office be used on an USB stick?
Sep 17 2013 at 12:34am Copy Link

Stephen B Sherry, thank you for your reply. The pro deal at 50% is rather tempting, however your locations based prices are also very off-putting. After discount I get $42 which is today £26.40 or starting with the pound £29.40 which is today $46.80. Download protection removed! There's not much price movement between £ and $ at the moment, nor will there be in the near future.

So where are those $35 that you mentioned in your reply?

I'm not happy with discriminatory pricing, fortunately there are not too many developers that do that, unfortunately you are one of them.
Sep 17 2013 at 1:13am Copy Link

WPS Office Hi Bernhard, for licenses, one license could be activated on 3pcs. And for this offer, we embedded the license code in the software, that means the only thing you have to do is to keep the installation package on your computer. Once you uninstall accidently, you have to use the package to install again. This package has no computer number limit.

And Kingsoft Office could not be used on an USB stick right now. We'll keep this requirement in mind.

Jann Martin I have used the Standard version for my kids computers for years on WinXP, Win7 but not on Win8. I love the program because it installs clean and quickly and works like a charm. It is so much like Microsoft Office and saves to the same formats as Microsoft Office. The standard version differs in that it uses the old pre-2007 file formats to save, and the standard version does not have the newer Ribbon interface of the 2007/2010/2013 office versions either. Having said that, I refuse to purchase any program that only lasts for a year (which is why I only have used the standard version in the past). A yearly license is preposterous. I refuse to "rent" Microsoft Office for $9,99 a month as well, even if it does come with 5 licenses. I like the idea of owning a product and upgrading when I'm good and darned ready. Having said that, I will NOT download or install this program either with a license that ends in a year. I understand it doesn't work on Windows 8 very well anyway. I will stick to their completely FREE STANDARD VERSION.

Alan W Hi Sherry,

I am still unclear about the pro version. If I purchase the pro version using the awesome discount do I have to activate it online? I will no longer purchase software that requires online activation. I have been burned a few times in the past. I like your Office 2013 and would like to purchase it. I own SoftMaker Office 2010 but have not upgraded to the newer version because it now requires online activation. I will change to your product if it does not require online activation.

Thanks,
Alan

Cary Adams For those of you who are shunning this one year offer, check out the "free" Kingsoft Office Suite on their web page. For most of us, the "Pro" features won't be greatly missed.

FWIW, I use this alongside Libre Office, and Softmaker's office suite, as docx compatibility varies from one document to another, depending on structure and format. Each program has their unique areas of strength.

For Powerpoint equivalence, Kingsoft has some powerful features, and many templates.

As I said, compare this offer with their "free" download.

Daniel Gaudet I have another question. I just installed the free one year version and it doesn't look like it has the same features as the pro version listed here: http://www.ksosoft.com/pr...e-pro.html. Specifically, I can't find a way to save a document to DOCX. The strange thing is that I can save spreadsheets as XLSX.

It seems to be a slightly different version than the latest pro version. It shows up as version 9.1.0.4088 while the latest version is 9.1.0.4256 (as shown from the link I mentioned in the previous paragraph).

Is it possible to get the latest version (9.1.0.4256) instead of the older version I downloaded as part of the e-mail receipt?

For most of the computers I use, their IP isn't permanent. Both at home and work the connection has dynamic IP and I often work with my laptop via third party connections. So how will the software recognise my computer in order for the activation to remain?

To repeat one of my other questions, you mentioned that you can't guarantee that every update will be free, if a new 2014 version comes out in the next 4-5 months, will that be a free upgrade, or will it just be bug fixes in the 2013 release?

Seems to be 30 day trial.

The EULA says this "END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT OF KINGSOFT

Special Note
The KINGSOFT OFFICE PROFESSIONAL 2013 EDITION [“Product”] under this Agreement is a charged product. But before you pay the license fee for the “Product”, there is a one-off 30-day free of charge trial period (from the initial date when you install the “Product” on the unique computer of which you have the ownership, hereinafter referred to as the “Trial Period”) for each unique computer ID."

WPS Office @Alexander, sorry I didn't make myself clear before. "Computer IP" I mean the mac address of your computer, which is unique for each computer. That means although your internet IP is changing all the time, your computer ip wouldn't change. And the reason why have have to use the internet, is because, we have to record your computer ip together with your license code you used to activate. So that we know this license has been activated in 1 pc.

Please let me know, if you have any questions:)

Alex Zor 1. Hi. Is any of the version Kingsoft office suite free for commercial use? (it might be any older version than 2013)? We wanted to unify office software, but few of our workers have never heard what macro is - so basic functions will be ok for them so free version is enough.
2. And few will need that advanced functionality. License for one office suite (for 3pcs) means that having one license I might install that software on 3 computers?

WPS Office @Alex Zor, sorry the free version could only be used for personal use. For commercial use, you have to buy the Office Pro 2013 version. Macro is a feature you could use for complicated data analysis. And it's not the only feature the paid version have compared to the free version. Tom I am a bit confused - can the program be used indefinitely as stated above or is the license valid for 1 year as stated in the fine print?
Also, why do you need to install during the promotion period?

Constantin Florea @Joe Kerr - I am sorry about the confusion regarding the discounted price for the paid version. The 50% discount for the paid version was indeed available during the last time when we ran the giveaway however for this promotion we were only able to bring you a 29% discount.

Is it true? I think you confuse life time upgrades and life time use indefinitely.

Thanks.

VLM Constantin - I think the confusion may lie here, at least in part.

Sometimes, "one year" means that free upgrades cease after one year. Other times, "one year" means that the software itself falls over.

Sometimes, "lifetime upgrades" means "lifetime within this major version/release", though it "shouldn't" mean that. Other times, "lifetime upgrades" means "upgrades for a lifetime", which is what is "should" mean.

I wish BDJ would, as matter of routine, set forth such language a bit more clearly in all its promotions. There are just way too many "unnecessary" questions about such things in the conversations; many of these could be avoided if there were greater clarity up front.

Just my 2 cents. :)

Rich OBrien I'm looking forward to being able to customize Kingsoft Writer so I can add a Lower Toolbar with my own choice of editing tools as I've enjoyed in Microsoft Word for 20 years. The Font List will be better when ALL of the fonts are shown as they actually appear. But other than this, Kingsoft Writer is surprisingly close to perfect. I was ready to buy today, but didn't. If free today is $29.95 off the price, how can $49.95 be the special price after taking 29% off?
Everywhere I look, Kingsoft Office is offered all over the Internet for free. I believe that if we want choices we should pay for software. $29.95 is the right price. $49.95 is a price that reminds me I don't make enough money.

John H The last version of MS Office I used was Office '97. I am more concerned with compatibility with Open Office and *.ODT documents. Am getting tired of OO being so slow and bulky.

What are the common multi platform formats for Word and Spreadsheet documents these days? Does Kinsoft support those?

Can I decrypt OO documents with Kingsoft?

Can someone comment on the compatibility with Open Office and the ODT format?
I tried Libre Office but it seemed buggy compared to OO.

Thank You in advance.

Thank you Constantin, but that truly doesn't answer my question. Because you do apologize for the confusion, does that mean that you were wrong or right?
I can't find an update in the Fine Print too.

Please if it is still possible for you, just explain it again as if I were a real dumb person. Thank you for the trouble.

Constantin Florea The vendor replied and wrote the following referring to the upgrade period for the paid version which we're offering at 29% off:
The upgrades are free for 3 years. If we publish a new version, the cost of upgrading to the new version will be $10.00.

So, the 1 year license which we offer for free can be used only for 1 year. The paid version which can be used indefinitely has 3 years upgrades and a $10.00 cost (after those 3 years) to upgrade to a new version.

Rich OBrien Yes, I use TextMaker the SoftMaker Office Pro word processor nearly every day. I've completely given up using Microsoft Word. For years TextMaker has been the only program that could perfectly work with Microsoft's new docx file format. It appears that the Kingsoft Office Suite Pro word processor now has caught up. Save a doc as a docx and you'll notice the newer docx file is about half the size.
I opened a very challenging table full of formatted text and it looked perfect in in the Kingsoft word processor. I really like the Kingsoft word processor but I will continue to use TextMaker because it lets me customize its toolbars and add custom toolbars. And because its Font List previews every font exactly as it actually looks. Other than these two things, the word processors seem to be equally capable. At the top of the Kingsoft word processor's font list is a list of recently used fonts, a great feature I'd love to have in TextMaker.

John H Upon start up of my trial, a window pops up stating that there are errors in my registry that will prevent use of some of the functions.

My choice to not use your program as default is not an error. Please respect my choice.

Open Office compatibility.
Kingsoft does not open ODT and ODF files. Or am I missing something. I never adopted the Microsoft formats all those years ago when I switched to Open Office. I need to see what the current open standard formats outside of Microsoft are.

Otherwise, this looks like a very nice program and opens lightening fast compared to OO.

Would welcome comments from the developer on Kingsoft and non Microsoft open formats.

Anyone know whee I can get a good uninstall utility to remove this program? :-)

_*_ I purchased this the last time here for 50% off.
I also own SoftMaker Office 2012
I have both installed on my computer.

I think Kingsoft is an excellent Office substitute but it does not have everything MS Office has as part of it.

Overall though, I use SoftMaker Office more often. I never have trouble with opening any files in SoftMaker TextMaker where I have run in to problems with Kingsoft Writer.

e.g. Renaming an old WordPerfect File from abc.wpd to abc.doc causes great distress in Kingsoft Writer and will not display properly. In SoftMaker TextMaker it opens just fine as a .doc file with all formatting in place.

Anyway, both are good substitutes for MS Office if not outright replacements.
Both programs need better spell checkers, and a decent Thesaurus.

Hope this helps

VLM Rich OBrien and _*_ - Thank you both so much!!! I did purchase SoftMaker Office here at BDJ, and it seems great to me. I've almost completely left MS Office behind; the exceptions are components outside the "big three", such as Visio. I've not really found any good outright replacement for that ... yet. (Hope springs eternal! :)

_*_ - Would you be willing to elaborate a bit on your comment about spell checkers etc? Also, to your knowledge (or of course yours, Rich), does Kingsoft have a grammar checker?

John H @VML: I've almost completely left MS Office behind; the exceptions are components outside the "big three", such as Visio.

Dia is an Open Source replacement for Viso though the developer lists it as " geared towards informal diagrams for casual use"

I like Kingsoft but will pass on Kingsoft and wait on a package that supports Open Office replacement and Open Document Formats.

Microsofts policy of "Embrace, extend, and extinguish" toward Open Source and formats needs to be understood by anyone concerned with 100 percent control of their work. Wikipedia has a good read on "Embrace, extend, and extinguish"

XS 11E Like all other office suites it is NOT compatible with MS Office. It cannot retain complex formatting on Word or Excel documents.

I wish they'd stop making false claims, this, OO, etc. will work just fine for simple MS Office documents but if you're in a work from home situation and you need to work on any complex MS Office documents you'll probably need to purchase MS Office.

VLM John H - Thanks for the pointer to "Embrace, extend, and extinguish". Reading that piece, I am reminded of the days when Netscape's browser took off like a rocket, and the meetings between Microsoft and Netscape, and what followed. At least in that case, in (not well-deserved) fairness to MS, the folks at Netscape did treat them with almost unimaginable disdain and disrespect. Had I been a member of the MS team at that time, I'd probably have wanted to crush Netscape, too. But the policy extends far, far beyond Netscape, and most have not treated MS in such a way.

XS 11E - While I appreciate your point of view, I think that most users really do create relatively simple documents using the MS Office products and quasi-lookalikes such as Kingsoft. So from their point of view, the products "work fine". Also, here only from my own point of view, whenever I wish to create a complex document, I don't even consider Word or any lookalike; I'd reach for FrameMaker, or InDesign, or the like. So I would never encounter most of the "advanced" features in Word, at least. Just another perspective, yours seems quite clear and reasonable to me, though perhaps exhibiting a bit of frustration.

Constantin Florea @ek lei - Here are our suggestions in case of issues with the purchase or questionnaire pop-up:
- try another browser like IE, Chrome, Firefox or Opera
- run Firefox in Safe Mode
- run IE in Private Mode
- temporarily disable your antivirus, anti-malware, ad-blocker, pop-up blocker software you have installed
- temporarily disable all browser add-ons/extensions
