Vanessa N Hi,

Just for fun, I was fooling around and chose yesterday's date to look at.....It said "no weather" and "weather auto-updated in Yoweather unlimited edition". Is the unlimited edition for sale and can you look at previous dates? Not crucial, but was just curious.

Pavel Repkin Hi, Vanessa!
We have plans to add weather history to YoWindow this summer. Yes, the Unlimited Edition is for sale. At the moment YoWindow does not know about the weather on previous days. I you are from US you may like that we are going to release NWS forecasts support in a week or so. We release new features in YoWindow every week in average.

Michael R Looks very nice...
Bought it...

On my wishlist for your above noted weekly updates would be to have the current picture also as background-image, which is automatically updated in a user-given interval (e.g. 5 min). Still image would do, but if the CPU has nothing to do, animation would be the hit...

I've seen there is the possibility to use own pictures., which I haven't tried yet. It would be nice to be able to use different pictures for different locations.

To be honest; I rather not put out my personal location for the world to see so I can have animated weather on my desktop.

It seems a dedicated email for this purpose might be a good alternate choice to have unlisted areas placed into the program.

Cheryl Rutherford I tried Version 3 last evening and yes, it seems to be much better on memory usage. However, I think the reason I just don't use it much is because it looks more like a comic book photo and I like something more realistic. The weather feature is good and accurate, but since the screen takes up the entire monitor, it just isn't real. But, you did do a great job in cleaning it up.

Any chance you can make it like a screensaver with actual photos with embedded flash components, like the ones you already have: shooting star, moving jet plane, flying kite, etc?? That would be awesome.

@Pavel Repkin - is there a published road map for the product? I would like to know where the active desktop element ranks in the new features to add list
Jun 8 2012 at 12:12pm Copy Link
0
Pavel Repkin I have to be honest.
Active desktop is a low priority feature, because in windows 8 Microsoft is changing desktop concept.

No published roadmap.
Our top priorities
1. IOS and Android editions
2. Windows 8 version
3. More animated landscapes

There is Mac version, but it is a little older than Wiindows one.
We hope to upgrade Mac edition this summer.

Warren Russell Pavel, I wanted to email you but can't see an address anywhere.

When I first saw this offer, the countdown clock said I had over 2 hours left. I thought that gave me plenty of time to download and try out the application, which I did. It took me a while, because I had some problems; the problem locked up my laptop twice and I had to reboot.

When I did finally get it working, though, I came back here to order the product. I restarted Firefox and saw that the clock was still counting down and said I had an hour and 8 minutes left. (It's now counting down from 59 minutes.) However, when I entered the code, it said the code had expired.

Have I missed out? If so--Nico, can you tell me why the clock isn't accurate? It would be better to replace the countdown timer with a static image of the closing time if the clock is not dependable.

Thanks,
Warren

Frank Stephens Rustem Faz, the Policy says, "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free up to the next major version."

This is fun software, not perfect, but useful. Here are some Easter Eggs, just type them while YoWindow has the keyboard focus:

amelie -- daytime (to see), must have puffy clouds, preferably neither too few nor too many

fiesta -- day or night, may be a good 10 seconds before you see anything

firework (sic) -- day or night

Balloons which are not part of fiesta -- you can click on them at the base (tricky) to boost their altitude.

Horses can also be clicked on at their lower middle to make them fly (tricky). You can keep doing it and they will go off-screen at the top, always land gently. If you follow them with the mouse on their way up or down (tricky) you can catch their comments about flying.

It's no big deal, but using the mouse for Easter Eggs can move the timeline, you can always go back to Live or just close the window. My main gripe about YoWindow is that it often doesn't update frequently enough after an hour. The source data also isn't always the best. Still, it's a fun and useful utility, well worth the price.

Pavel Repkin I'm trying to push YoWindow to perfection, but some aspects (like weather forecast quality) are out of my control.
Dear Frank, thank you for the very useful feedback.
Repkasoft - Oct 30 2012 at 3:09am Copy Link

Frank Stephens People may not understand just how useful YoWindow is. Current conditions are always available just by hovering over the tray icon. The full display has lots of clever animations and simulations. It's easy to get a feel for weather in other locations which matter to you. Sure, you could always search for webcams, but YoWindow is more convenient. Webcams also can't show you a simulation of likely future conditions. Images can quickly convey information in a more useful way than tables of numbers, but the numeric values are still shown.

Pavel Repkin, I'm aware that you're in another country, which can complicate programming, but I think that weather conditions and forecasts are available from weather stations closer to where I live. I know that lists exist someplace, Microsoft is able to give current conditions that are more local to me, but it often fails to update. You could use the second-closest weather station as a backup when the primary isn't responding.

Catherine McClarey I got this via a single-weekend promotion from CNET Downloads. The default picture which visually displays the current weather is pretty generic; however, one can substitute an actual outdoors photo from your local area (so get out your digital camera or camera-equipped phone and take a picture!). If your hometown isn't listed as one of the choices for displaying local weather, just follow the instructions on how to submit your hometown for inclusion - mine got added to the list just a couple of days after I submitted it. A few pages in the publisher's website are in Norwegian; however, most of the webpages I encountered were in English. Certainly not the only option out there for getting weather information online, but a cute, visually-oriented one (and great for sharing with non-reading small children, too!).
Mar 10 2013 at 4:19am Copy Link
0
Toni McConnel I've had this for quite a while now. Unlike Catherine, I like the default picture a lot. What I'm impressed by is how accurately the graphic reflects the weather where I live. that is, when it's snowing hard here, it snows hard on the Yo Window scene; if the snow (or rain) is light, it snows lightly in the scene. A huge variety of changes in cloudiness is another example, all accurately reflective of how things are where I live. A lot of technological skill behind this. Lights going on and off in the farmhouse according to the time of day, crows cruising constantly, balloonists when the wind is not too high, and so on. A lot of subtleties. For me, this screensaver is not particularly useful, but it's a lot of fun, especially since it continuously evolves in the variety of effects.
Mar 10 2013 at 9:03am Copy Link
0
Jim Willis I also got this from the CNET promo.
I was worried that once I installed it I would lose access to my screensaver of choice, John's Background Switcher, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to try it or not.
Turns out I can switch this on & off very easily, so I can still use other screensaver.
I think this is a pretty neat program that is fine using default settings.
However; the user has the ability to do a lot of 'tweaking' to this program such as adding your own pics to use as backgrounds.
They have detailed tutorials on the site for that.
If I had not gotten the promo above I would gladly pay $9.99 for this.
Highly recommended!

Ralph Bressler Where are the maps? I have come to depend on radar and satellite maps to make my own "forecast". How do I get them?
Mar 13 2013 at 5:17am Copy Link
0
Frank Stephens Ralph Bressler, YoWindow doesn't do maps and radar, there are tons of applications and websites for that. YoWindow does things that no other software does, you can read my earlier comments. If YoWindow indicates bad weather coming, then you can check your radar of preference. I don't install other weather apps besides YoWindow, there's no telling what they do in terms of ads, Internet access, and security. In Win7, IE allows you to pin websites to the taskbar, so I pinned a few favorite weather sites. I'm sure that those provide endlessly more useful information than any app.
Mar 13 2013 at 6:57pm Copy Link
0
Ralph Bressler Frank Stevens, I guess I was looking for one program to do it all. I think YoWindow would be more useful if it contained these other features in addition to its unique graphical presentation. The addition of radar maps and alerts has been discussed on their forum. There was an indication they would consider them. I guess they were considered and not implemented.

I am not sure about your comment about other Win apps installing ads and so on. How do I know that Yowindow doesn't do the same thing?
Mar 13 2013 at 7:30pm Copy Link
0
Frank Stephens Ralph Bressler, the only "ads" I've seen in YoWindow were links to fun stuff like World Cup Soccer and the Olympics. There are links to some weather web sites under "Location", but I don't find them very useful.

Pavel Repkin, YoWindow doesn't remember settings when you shut down Windows. You have to exit the program (I haven't checked to see if you have to use the menu).

Bummer, I forgot to tell the Sticky Password people that BDJ is one of the sites that it screws up.

I'm a long-time user of YoWindow 2+years as a Chrome App

So Simple! You slide across the day and see how the temperature will go up and down or change from rain to shine. Everything you need without complicated weather maps.

Want weather maps? Click info - takes you to the National Weather Service. YoWindow is International too. Three clicks, change to any city or country and see what's happening there. Then back to your home weather. You can pick from many backgrounds or upload your own. Wonderful app that's a joy to use!
Thank you YoWindow.

For every person that bothers to complain there are 10 others that leave without notice. My guess is you are bleeding membership to other give away sites. I appreciate your response but I've wasted to much time and I find the explanations simplified and monotonous.

Arlene Manduca RE: Offers If you DON'T have Facebook. - IT NEVER WORKS.

Family members without FB have never been able to get the giveaways. Did I say never? Right, NEVER. Answer the questions, it redirects you back. I've tried Chrome, IE, and Firefox. None work. And I've tried on different computers.

I've complained repeatedly. Told it's not a problem or most don't have the problem. But I never GET the giveaway when it doesn't work. It's only the FB required giveaways. Never happened before FB was required.

SW vendors want likes on FB, that shouldn't prevent users from getting it. FB has security and privacy flaws people don't want to risk.

If no one will fix this ongoing problem, users should start a page somewhere of giveaways they can't get as non FB users Ask friends with FB to VOTE DOWN the products. Maybe that will finally bring a repair to this problem.

Several of my family members use this home network. Only one person in the family can ever get the giveaway. The registration keeps saying you have already gotten this, when indeed they haven't.

Please fix these problems. It's not fair to people who follow you and buy programs here.

I've privately emailed the site owners multiple times. They're very nice. But it appears they think I'm the only one with the problem. Not so, I see.

Just give us a way to get the programs, that's all anyone asks.
Thank you.

Jan Brinksma Skybase has a point. I've got the same trouble yesterday with iobit driverbooster. Every time I pressed the link for no facebook users, it showed up about 3 seconds and then the facebook page came again. Fortunately the same giveaway was on an other giveaway, I only had to download the program and the key came a few moments later in my email box. Now hassle or what so ever. regards.

Gde Swart I didn't want the program (It seems nice, just not my thing.), but I had to see what all the complaining was about, because I've never had a problem with the questionnaire (I don't Facebook). As usual, it worked fine for me, the software downloaded and I received my registration in about 3 minutes.

I'm not suggesting that others are not having problems, just that I haven't.
This hit and miss issue has to be frustrating for everyone including BDJ, but rants and threats are rarely a constructive method for solving problems.

It would appear that FB is not going away here, so it might be interesting to find out what OS, browser and security software/settings that everyone's using to determine if there's a common thread causing the issue. Maybe an "I got it"/"I didn't get it" poll on the next freebie.

It's a little late in the day for this giveaway, but starting a forum thread for the next one could be helpful (if we stay on topic). If BDJ has some specific instructions for this, please make it a forum thread stuck at the top. There used to be a couple of older forum threads dealing with FB issues, but they're stagnant now.

I'm on Win 7-64 using Chrome with Adblock Plus, and Privacy Badger installed, pop-ups are blocked and cookies are enabled and like I said, it went fine.

Chris @ Robert Patterson

I just downloaded the version from their site. It says it is version 4 build 1 and it is still registered as unlimited edition. It also tells me there is an update to 4.0.1 and when clicking to download it takes me to their site where I just downloaded the installer file so I assume I have the latest version and it is version 4 build 1, which is still registered.

Arlene Manduca People without problems usually don't comment. When they do they don't state the OS or browser they're using. The FB problem is continual. Probably two years.

I'll think less experienced computer users don't have problems - they don't have advanced programs or extensive security on their machines.

80% of the programs offered are similar and they're products which do a few things. Many of those things can be done with the Windows Operating System or with Freeware. Advanced users know this. You can also tell there are so many newbie users because when Advanced programs on Java and such are giveaways or discounted, most don't even know what they do.

Avast and many other anti-virus programs try to block ads on FB - which causes problems with Bitsdujour FB downloads. Extensions and widgets on chrome cause problems. I've done the rounds extensively disabling everything (that helped some) and even trying a VPN. I've written to Nico several times. No improvement when it just won't work.

Giveawayoftheday.com doesn't have this problem (but adds a lot of registry clogging JUNK in their downloads. Glarysoft.com never has this problem (and they give a real license and no junk in the executable) Neither do several other free giveaway sites have this problem.

@Gde Swart - iobit problems are irrelevant to what happens on bitsdujour. Why mention them? Because you think it's an Internet problem? Sheesh!

The problem exists, many have complained, there should be a working bitsdujour downloads page for NON FACEBOOK USERS. We're required to sign up and give our email address, you know who's downloading it.

I didn't see any threats but perhaps missed them.

There are facts which people should know. It's irritating to wait and wait for something to be offered. That day, the FB download won't work and we can't get it.

If bitsdujour will not or can not fix this, the HONORABLE thing to do is give us an email address to write to (every giveaway). When it doesn't work, they can get the program to us the next day. Certainly fair.

That's how to fix it once and for all.

1) What version is this giveaway? The illustration at the top says v2. The latest version on Repka is v4.

2) Can the key be used for the android version?

3) Suggestion: for Moon Phase, please indicate whether it is waxing or waning. For example, today it's 57%.
You could include a small upward-pointing arrow next to the 57% to indicate waxing, downward to indicate waning. Today would be upward.
Alternatively, you could include a small subscript "1q" "2q" "3q" or "4q" next to the 57%. Today would be 2q.
Alternatively, you could use + for waxing, - for waning.

Thank you.

Ricky Rick Pavel Repkin -- your program YoWindow is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cool! It's very accurate and fun to have on my PC (Win 7 Pro 64 bit SP1).

I like the Village Scene best with the 2 horses, Millie and Billy, plus the Cow Marfa!

The sound effects are great and realistic (I use headphones on my PC). I also like how when there is wind - the plants and trees sway. Also the rain fall, snow or wind blowing leaves around in the fall.

And -- how things start to turn green and flowers bloom when spring and summer arrive. Then in the Fall time - how things turn brown and the leaves fall off the trees.

When night comes and I see the lights on in the farm house and smoke coming out the chimney -- it gives a calming and peaceful effect to my overworked mind.

And - I TOTALLY prefer the cartoonish look to everything over an actual picture. You have an absolutey fantastic and accurate program. Thanks for all your hard work that went into programming it.

Although the free version is offered here I suggest to other people that they get the free program and then get the paid version - it is waaaaaaaaaay worth the small cost for such a nice program.

I am one happy customer!

Software Babe Heavy memory usage, folks. If you have 12 GB memory or less, you may want to re-think this one and just use a gadget for weather if you have W7/Vista. Or, use something else if you have W8.

I bought this a few years ago, like a dummy and it took a lot of my resources. Maybe they have slimmed their code down some, but I doubt it as anything that stays on top of any window on the desktop, IS MEMORY INTENSIVE.

Ricky Rick @Software Babe

When I used YoWindow on my Windows XP Pro SP3 OS I only had 4 GB RAM and YoWindow caused ZERO problems of any kind including slowing down my machine due to heavy memory usage.

When I built my latest PC - Win 7 Pro 64 Bit - I do have 32 GB of RAM so I can't really comment as to how YW will perform on a Win 7 or Win 8 with less than 12 GB RAM.

HOWEVER --- I just checked in Task Manager and it shows YoWindow is ONLY using 76 MB which is virtually nothing if you have 12 GB RAM. Perhaps you should check your Task Manager Processes and see what REALLY IS eating up all your RAM.

Tried the FREE YoWindow App from Google Play Store but didn't like the advertisements showing up in the YoWindow Cell App so I bought the phone App for just $2.98 USD. Very Happy. I now have YoWindow on my Win 7 Pro 64 bit PC and also on my Cell.

Now I can Take YoWindow anywhere and always be prepared ahead of time for what the upcoming weather will be for whatever particular area I happen to be at. Fantastico!!

CthulhuSaves Off the key topic for a moment, I must say, this is a lovely program. I wasn't aware that it *was* a full program until now. I've been using a browser plugin of this for awhile, with only a handful of backdrops, and just love it (the holiday themes are really fun). Super pleased to see this giveaway, and hope the key problem gets fixed. It's well-worth waiting on.

Now, if only they'd make a Cthulhu Mythos theme for this! :)

CthulhuSaves Resend finally worked for me. :)

BTW, the links in Google Docs for additional backgrounds (that the software sends you to) are all dead. Looks like they point to individual forum pages, and that the forum addresses may have changed. Just a guess, though.

Harvie User Will be deleting, out of time for receiving a working key.I realize this was a nice gesture on your part to give this away, but very frustrating when something as simple as sending us a key is such a problem

D J It took three (3) tries to get tries to obtain the software key. The first and second e-mail, the yellow box was just that yellow with NO key. I guess the old adage applies here with this offering -- "If you don't succeed the first time, try, try again..." This App is great -- be sure to find the "easter eggs" (hidden animations/sounds/morphs) in the various landscapes ). One or more of the developers has a sense of humor.
