Nick User How does this compare to compressing (zipping) using the default Windows compression?

Bruce User What's the point of it if you can just do the same thing without this on your computer already? really useless.

Arek @Amit: No. Only ZIP archives. The program is kinda useless - all Windows versions (since XP, or even an earlier version) natively support packing and unpacking ZIPs.

jack hath Doesn't Windows provide a native unzip function?

How is this different or, more to the point better?

Tino User Not all are the same. Have had instances where had to resort to using another unzip app to extract files I've downloaded. Currently though been using just 7-zip, it's more reliable than anything out there. Where others have failed, 7-zip has come through with flying colors. Best of all, it's always free. Lately though I have found that these 100% free offers are for things that are competitively free or apps that are already mundane.

Robert Crombie Jack,
The Windows unzip has an annoying habit of creating a folder 'out of thin air' and placing the files you want into there. You then have to move them up to the parent folder, and delete the useless sub folder.
I am unsure whether today's program has that annoying habit ?
7-zip has the ability for you to right click a zip file and choose 'extract here', and it does that properly.

I had unfortunate experiences with zip files years ago, that reported errors after I tried to unzip the zip file (path names too long, etc).
What I would love is if BitsDuJour could offer a program that is rugged and 'bullet proof' EG It tells you up front if the selected folders and files are too long or have other problems.
If BitsDuJour can offer such a program, I would jump at it, even if it is one of those reduced price offers.

Rob
PS I recently purchased Winzip, but they do not support XP (which I use 95% of the time), and I am unsure whether it meets my 'pre warning' criteria above.

Constantin Florea @Rob User, The product website is no longer working since 2018. The download trial link we have is the following:
http://download.bitsdujou...er2015.exe
but since the product website is no longer working I don't think it is a good idea that you purchase the product if it may be present on other sites. We haven't run a promotion for this product since 2015 and we don't currently have a promotion for it. The promotion page you see here is from the last time we ran the promotion for this title (that was in 2015).
