What are people saying about Zoolz Cloud Storage - 1TB Lifetime Plan

W Ma I see in the fine print that each license allows installation on 2 computers. To my understanding, two computers have two different footprints.
But I also notice in the fine print there can be "2 installations per footprint."
So, if I purchase 2 licenses, can I install them on the same footprint and have 2TB of storage?

Daniel Kamman This is a lifetime plan, but the fine print includes:
"Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free up to the next major version and minor versions thereafter. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted."

In what way will this lifetime plan require additional payment -- and how much is that additional discounted payment likely to be?

I ask because I don't want to pay $39 now and find out that in 6 or 12 months I have to pay much more than $39 for the next major version.

1. is this valid for current users to add more storage space ?
2. could i stack 4 purchases to reach more storage space in the same account ?
Thanks in advance

PopNet Media No this is not valid for current users. This would need to be a new account.
No stacking of offers. But you can add more space if you need it for the annual/monthly rate. But 500GB of each service is yours to use how you want.
Zoolz - Mar 5 2017 at 6:42am Copy Link

PopNet Media @Daniel The plan is for lifetime for each of the cloud services offered: 500gb of Instand and 500gb of archive (cold). These plans are the core of the Zoolz offering and wont' change. If you want to add more space or switch to a different plan that is offered (business, intelligent, etc..) then you would pay for those upgrades. But for the base services you won't need to pay for that space again.

Danio User I wouldn't trust these guys. They used to offer unlimited backup space for a set fee every month, but they stopped that. I highly doubt this "lifetime" offer will remain for very long. They also check your files to see if you have any pirated content on there.

Adam Bridge I would also like to see the Company's comment. I am already wary about storing my private data in the Cloud and the thought of a Provider then snooping through what I decide to save there makes me even less likely to use one. When you read the information contained at DH007's link and the alleged responses from the Company certainly makes me think twice.

D3z4R1 I too am curious to see a response from the vendor. This offer has piqued my interest, but depending upon the response to DH007's link, I might (sadly) end up passing over this offer. In this day and age of the utmost importance of personal privacy, DH007's link is very disconcerting.

Adam Bridge I think I'll pass. Googling reviews on this Company doesn't exactly inspire much confidence as many reviewers are complaining of corrupted files, poor tech support and very slow upload and download times. From what I can ascertain the Company is based in Jordan in the Middle East.

Colin McAllister At least this offer is split 50/50 between "Instant Vault" and "Cold Storage" and that will be of use to some.

I previously bought a lifetime 100Gb Zool offer. All 100Gb was "Cold Storage" but at the time I didn't realise what this meant. "Cold Storage" files take 3-5 hours each to download, after which you then get an email notifier and have 24 hours to retrieve your files. So you can guess how long it would take to (say) download 5Gb of family photos and a few Gb of mixed documents. So 500Gb of files would take...?

Anyone contemplating cloud *storage* should understand that downloads are never instantaneous. However, personally I'd pay a little more for a better retrieval speed. If you don't have a reasonable download speed, I feel that you might just as well store your files on a hard drive stored at a friend's house.

Zoolz The plans is a simple backup solution that is Split between Cold Storage and Instant Vaults.

You can always add or remove files from the cloud as well as deleted files from origin.

There is an upgrade path to add more cold storage as well as users, anything added will be set to a yearly subscription.

Zoolz doesn't support merging, as well as this plan is for new users. If you already have an account you can either create a new account with the new key or activate the old account with this plan.

Cold Storage is a cost efficient solution used for archiving and non frequently visited data, files are backed up automatically with our app, and need 3-5 hours to restore.

Instant Vaults are a simple drag and drop of files using a web browser, files are instantly accessed and can be shared with the users and non users of the account.

For further help, please contact us at saleszoolz.com or supportzoolz.com

Stanislav Cermak Please, $29,99 is really the only fee for 1TB for lifetime?

You say that "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free up to the next major version and minor versions thereafter. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted."

Please, what It means exactly? How much I will pay for 1TB for to say 10 years or 20 years?

Thank you very much.

Zoolz Hello Stanisilav,

Thanks for reaching out.

This plan is a one time, no recurring payments on the storage itself, unless you upgrade and add more storage/users, then that will be set to a yearly subscription.

As for the free updates, that is for the software app used for the backup, you will not be paying for it to update to the new version.

You will not be paying anything in the long run as long as your on the original plan.

If you have any other concerns, contact us at saleszoolz.com or supportzoolz.com.

Shazza Does “two users” mean “two computers” or as a single user with multiple computers, can I back each of them up on the same account? I have 4 computers that I would ideally want covered.

Also, As I replace computers, is it possible to “retire” one, and then start backing up the new computer (even better restoring the old computer’s data to the new computer)?

Zoolz Hello Shazza,

Having a free Zoolz account does not prevent you from having another paid one. So, when you take up this offer, you can create a new account for it, or you can contact the support team (supportzoolz.com) and they will help you to link this payment with your already existing free account if possible.

Zoolz Hello again @Shazza,

This offer gives you an account where two separate users can use it, each user should be added by a unique email address, and each one will be able to backup only one computer, with the ability to retire (archive) it in order to add another one. You can restore data from the archived computers on any new one.
Zoolz - Nov 9 2018 at 12:59am Copy Link
0
Shazza Would linking a paid account with my existing free account give me an additional computer? I presume it would not add the free space (given the opening comment re merging or stacking), so what would the end situation be if I say purchased the 3TB plan and linked that payment with the existing free account?
Nov 9 2018 at 1:14am Copy Link
0
Zoolz @Shazza, linking paid account with existing free one will not give you an extra computer. The new plan will override the old one. So, in your case, keeping the free account and creating another one for the paid plan is better.

Kindly note that the Zoolz desktop software is designed to upload the selected data to the Cold Storage part of your account(s). It cannot be used to upload data to the Vault.

Uploading data to the Vault should be done via a web browser as described in the following article: http://wiki.zoolz.com/instant-vault/

Shazza So in terms of “automatic backup” these plans are actually 50% less storage than indicated - the 3TB plan is actually only 1.5TB, which makes it considerably less attractive in my view. I’m not about to open a web browser in order to do a backup.

If I was to use the Instant storage space, it would be to share files (which I currently do with Dropbox). No drive mapping makes that difficult (is there a way to map a windows drive to that space like Dropbox, OneDrive etc.)?

Also, in order to share a file, do you have to set up every person who will download? Again with Dropbox for instance, I can just create a link, and give it out to whoever I want without having to worry about setting up the recipient - can you elaborate on how this would work in practice for anonymous sharing (i.e I don’t need to know the person downloading).

Zoolz Hello @Shazza,

Yes, the 3 TB plan is divided into 1.5 TB of Cold Storage + 1.5 TB of Instant Vault. Uploading to the Instant Vault should be done manually via a web browser, and we are providing it as a help from our side for the users who needs to share files with others, as there is no Share option for data under Cold Storage.

There is no current way to map a windows drive to the Instant Vault.

Zoolz allows you to create a share link and give it to whoever you want without having to worry about setting up the recipient. The following article explains everything about the Share option of Zoolz: http://wiki.zoolz.com/how...d-folders/

We assure you this offer is for lifetime (Forever). No payment is required for major updates to the Zoolz software. Payment is required only if you decide to upgrade to a higher plan later.

Finally, please be informed that the APIs are not available in these plans.

If I kept 1M file in cold storage, how long will it take for me to download that file? How frequently can I download this file that is "cold storage" ?
Thanks.
Jan 8 at 1:59am Copy Link

Zoolz Hello @umike,

Since Cold Storage is an efficient way to archive data, restoring files from Cold Storage cannot be achieved immediately.

Once you request to restore data from Cold Storage, you will need to wait 3-5 hours in order for your requested data to be ready for downloading. Then, the download will start, and the speed of the restore depends on many dynamic factors, such as your Internet connection, the size of the data you are trying to restore, the properties of your machine, etc.

The following article explains in details how to restore from Cold Storage using Zoolz:

John Smead I just purchased the Zoolz Home 3TB Lifetime ($79.99) and received an email with instructions on how to obtain the software. The link takes you to a Zoolz site that requests your name, email address, password, and redemption coupon. What is the redemption code and what is the password they are looking for? The email contains a code that says it is to be entered after installation but nothing about a redemption code. I tried using my BitsDujour password but that doesn't work either.

First I signed up for the 2TB package, but I'm already getting the vibe that this was a mistake.

Before I mention the negatives, I have to say that I am pleased with the upload speed using the (Windows) app - hour after hour of consistently uploading at my broadband's top speed.

Ok, the negatives...
- Is the documentation hugely out of date or is does this licence only provide a sub-set of the normal ZoolZ Home functionality?
- Apparently, app will ONLY upload to Cold Storage. To store in the Vault (half the storage I've paid for), items need to be uploaded via the browser. But....
- ...Browser uploading is a mess. I was trying to upload lots of big (2GB) files. Everything started out well, uploading three at a time. However, one by one, a file upload would freeze until eventually nothing was uploading. The workaround is to pause and resume each of the current three uploads, but after a while they simply freeze again.
- It doesn't appear to be possible to move data between Cold Storage and Vault.
- No sign of support. I was sent an email from Zoolz titled "Your Zoolz Home Contact". It's now 40 hours since I emailed them but I've had no response so far, not even a receipt

Constantin Florea @First, The most likely reason there is a delay in vendor responses is because there is a holiday in the vendor's country, the second most encountered reason is the week-end period.

In this case I am sure the vendor will reply after the week-end is over. This vendor usually replies within the same day to our requests.

Zoolz @First, thank you for taking the time to review this Zoolz offer.

Kindly note that Zoolz documentation (https://wiki.zoolz.com/) is up-to-date.

This plan of Zoolz comes with both Cold Storage and Vault Storage.

The Zoolz desktop applications (Windows and macOS) is designed to upload only to the Cold Storage part of this plan.

Uploading data to Vault Storage has to be done via a web browser (https://wiki.zoolz.com/instant-vault/).

Data cannot be moved between Cold and Vault storage.

As for your support request, you will get an answer very soon.

First Hi, Zoolz. Thanks for getting back to me.

(1) Glad to hear that the documentation is up to date! Unfortunately, it apparently describes Zoolz functionality without mentioning that it is for Zoolz Business only. For example, a number of pages show a Dashboard Menu Bar which is quite different from the one I see, including such items as Policies and Reports.

As you can understand, this is not ideal when trying out a new service!

(2) I note in passing that nowhere in the offer is it mentioned that files can ONLY be uploaded to Cold Storage via the app and to Vault Storage via a browser.

(3) As a test, I tried to restore data from Cold Storage using my browser. This failed as the file was larger than "the maximum daily download quota allotted (1.00 GB)". Hmm, no mention here of a download quota, but let's see whether the suggested "Remote Restore" can sort this out for me.

Nope, despite the documentation specifically referring to "Zoolz/Bigmind" and "Home users", this functionality is apparently not available to Zoolz Home users.

So, the only way that I can recover my data from Cold Storage is by using the app? If so, will the current app always permit me to recover the data or is possible that I may in future be forced to either abandon my data or pay for a new version of the app?

(4) I then tried to do a restore using the App. This didn't list any of the files I had loaded to Cold Storage (they're certainly there - they were all listed when I cancelled the restore). On a subsequent page it gave me the option of selecting files by their modification/backup date. I have numerous 2TB files, each with the same modification and backup date. Do I really have to download ALL of them to get a single file?

(5) Any thoughts on the issue with browser uploading?

(6) Finally, I did successfully recover a number 2TB files from the Vault using the app. The files were listed, I selected three of them and they downloaded at pretty much my broadband's limit. Perfect!
Apr 14 at 8:08am Copy Link

gary User You are right @First as far as I know there is no app for the Vault only for backup to cold storage. I agree it is a bit confusing that they offer so many different plans. I read some reviews before purchasing the 1TB backup option and most did mention that it could take several hours to restore files from cold storage. I only wanted it for the offsite backup of my 321 backup strategy on my Windows PC.I was thinking of using the vault for backing up photos from my mobile.

In your posts (4) and (6) is 2TB correct?

Some reviews:
https://www.techradar.com...oud-backup
https://www.tomsguide.com...-5404.html
https://www.cloudwards.net/review/zoolz/

In short, the 3-2-1 rule of backup means you must;
Have at least three independent copies of your data.
Store the copies on two different types of media.
Keep one backup copy offsite.
Apr 14 at 10:40am Copy Link
0
First Thanks, gary User. Yes, you're quite right - 2GB not 2TB. (I wish!)

Overwhelmingly, my need for Zoolz is as offsite disaster recovery backup so the 3 to 5 hour delay didn't bother me when I signed up.

Yes, I'd checked out a number of reviews. The problem is that it's not clear how much they have in common with the BitsduJour deal (not to mention that I don't think any of the issues I've raised were covered).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Zoolz.

Another query, please. On restoring from the Vault using the app, I found that I couldn't assign the cache to my external drive. Any work-around for this?

Thanks,
F.

Mr Dave I also had a "free" 1 TB lifetime account and got their email saying it would be closed if I didn't pay. BUT: they still offered a very good deal, 1 TB of storage for much less per year than Microsoft charges for 50 GB of One Drive space. I always knew free storage couldn't last forever. I like how the Zoolz app backs up the files I told it to watch, all in the background. I never saw my system slow down from Zoolz, and it's a very good feeling to know that critical files are backed up someplace outside my house. I have many many terabytes of data, but the really critical stuff easily fits inside 1 TB. Think about it: One Drive is 1.99 per month or about $24 a year for 50 GB, one user. Here you can store 20 times that amount for $30 LIFETIME, shared across two users. Still a good deal. I had 50 GB free from Microsoft not that long ago. They also said oops, we can't give you that much for free. It's now only 15. Zoolz is not being bad.
