What are people saying about AJC Sync

Robert Skinner The software looks promising but I would like to find something like this that installs to a USB drive instead of the computer. Do you plan on releasing a version that can operate from a USB drive?

Andrew Cutforth Yes AJC Sync integrates with the Windows scheduler so you can run syncs in the background when you like. If it's a small sync then yes you could do it every 10 minutes. Just click on the Schedule button on the Home tab to run the wizard.

Michael K I already have the "Beyond Compare V3 " syncing program.

Could you please say if "AJC Sync" does something different, has a different feature set or is it essentially the same as Beyond Compare?

Thanks

Andrew Cutforth Every sync program has something different in the way the data is presented and the amount of control you have over the process. It depends on what suits you best. I can't give you a list of differences but some unique features AJC Sync has is a dual file explorer with both sync locations overlaid on top of each other and a version control system that archives older versions of files so you can get back to any version.

Software Guy AJC, I too would be interested in the portable version. the application is obvious - certain apps that are dependent on a usb drive or portable hard drive should reside on and run from the drive. Sync the drive from machine 1 at location 1, and then go to location 2 and sync that drive. Anyone with two offices fully understands this concept. Thanks!

C Kent I have checked this, along with every other sync program I've seen, but have not yet found anything in this price range even remotely approaching the phenomenal SecondCopy. Above this price range, but well worth it if you need infinitely customizable industrial-strength synching, nothing compares with ViceVersa Pro. Both are extremely mature, virtually bug-free, professionally polished apps developed with obvious attention to and competence in usability considerations.

Neither program has been offered on bitsdujour, despite repeated requests and recommendations. Why are they not paying attention to bdj users?
May 1 2011 at 3:25am Copy Link
0
Andrew Cutforth Actually AJC Sync is a very mature product that has been around since 2001 (v1). It has many thousands of happy users so I guess it depends on your taste, what you need and how you want to visualize the files. It was originally created because I did not like any software on offer because they did not work the way I wanted.

If there are features it does not have that you want then please email supportajcsoft.com and you will get a rapid response.

Roger Thomasson @ C Kent

There are a variety of reasons that a vendor might choose not to participate in a BitsDuJour promotion. It might not jive with their existing promotional schedule, they might have distribution conflicts, it could be a bad time in the product cycle... or perhaps they simply don't understand how awesomely incredible BDJ customers are ;-)

Whichever way, it's NOT because we aren't paying attention to y'all. We love getting new software on board, especially when it comes via customer requests.

It's a little unrealistic to assume that we can snap our fingers and produce a discount for any software title in the suggestions queue. It just doesn't work that way...

Andrew Cutforth To answer the last 3 questions:

It does not sync open files but we are looking into adding this.

The license is for any v3.x and we have many more releases planned under v3.x. If we ever produce a v4 there may be an upgrade fee.

A single user installed version can be installed on a max of 2 computers provided you are the only user and you run one copy ata time.

Techtoysavvy I am interested in server verion but I need very specific features which are non-trivial. Other people are working on them so you must have heard of this.
1. differential sync (for large files like Outlook PST)
2. support for #1 on files less than 2G on S3
Also, do you support the consumer version of Amazon Cloud?

I suspect that #1 requires a client-server setup and that client computers need to run a client app/agent that compute checksums at a block level for block level sync. I am guessing that S3 has something in their API to support this without a client agent.

Andrew Cutforth Hi Prasad,

1. We are thinking about a client/server version that can just transfer the parts of the file that have changed.
2. I'm not quite sure what you are asking here so can you contact supportajcsoft.com to tell me more.
Yes we support the consumer version of Amazon S3, please read the guide here:
http://www.ajcsoft.com/sy...-cloud.htm

With music/media files they are unlikely to change so you could separate them into their own sync pair and say that you only want them copied when they are new files instead of changed files.
Contact support if you want more help with this.
AJC Software - Oct 6 2011 at 12:45pm Copy Link
0
Techtoysavvy Thanks, i will contact you separately with the details.
I read the link you provided.
That shows that you support Amazon S3. It does not indicate that you support the new Amazon cloud drive. The new consumer service has set GB limits with tiered options and does not support buckets and the regular AWS entry. Just mentioning it becuase I have 2 uses for this software and I want to understand how versatile it is.

My #1 need is for server backup/sync to S3. You support that.
However, I need to have differential sync with Amazon otherwise the data transfer goes way up.

Michael K @ Andrew - developer

Hi Andrew, all you versions are available behind the "Buy Now" button except the portable version.

Will you be offering the portable version here?

And with regard to the portable version, can it be put on more the one usb drive so that it can be used on a laptop and a desktop computer? And, finally does the program have to reside on the stick so that the usb drive has to remain plugged in all the time or can the program be installed on the host machine?

As you can tell, I'm not clear how the portable version works and would appreciate a clarification.

Thanks

Michael
Oct 8 2011 at 8:03am Copy Link

Andrew Cutforth The idea of the portable version is that you put it on one USB stick in order to use it when you travel between computers. If you want it available all of the time on a computer then you should really use an installed version and you get more features anyway.

H. H. Hallo,
1.I´m a registered user of beyond compare - a software I appreciate alot since many years, but I wanted to give your software a try (especially because of the possibility to archive overwritten files), but unfortunately it´s impossible for me to getyour software working (using windows xp media ed. sp3
always ending with
"There was a problem opening a working copy of the snapshot file "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\xx\Lokale Einstellungen\Temp\AJC-0911075a-b71a-4d78-b58c-d75691ad5c7e.tmp"

Database connection failed

Keine Fehlermeldung verfügbar, Fehlercode: E_UNEXPECTED(0x8000FFFF)."

Any solution available?

2. another question would be, if the program )n case it will be possible to get it working) is capable to make snapshots and just to compare the snapshots (even when the drive isn´t plugged - or just to see the changes between to different dates
What I mean by this is, that it could be useful to have the possibility to compare a snapshot taken e.g.date xx and date yy, so that one can see which files have been added or changed in that period of time.
(Of course this feature only would allow to see the deletion, changing or adding of files between 2 snapshot and no content comparison, but it could be useful nevethelss in order to see, that one hasn´t forgotten to transfer any file (e.g. when one one made a saving by change under a not- usually synchronized directory)
with kind regards
H.H.

Andrew Cutforth The snapshot database is normally very reliable but I wonder if there is some sort of permissions issue. Can you please contact support and send all of the error messages so we can sort it out - supportajcsoft.com

We can't currently compare snapshots on their own but it might be possible to add this.

Steven Avery Hi,

This is the type of software where the BIts model is difficult. AJC may very well be fine, but it would take a few day shake-out to see if it improves my environment (and seems at least in the ballpark with GoodSync and the other sync programs.).

They have a forum, a good sign, although a bit dormant of late.
http://www.ajcsoft.com/Fo...a0de22aecb

The screen shots look fine
http://www.ajcsoft.com/sy...-files.htm

And Andrew is on top of the game too.

I'm going to suggest that on software that is really cloud integration oriented that Bis try to set up a new model, where there is a window of opportunity , e.g. 3 days later, to actually do the purchase. Sometimes we contact the developer to do this type of stuff on an ad hoc basis (shhh). Again, I think this is more of a factor on certain types of programs, like sync, cloud upload of screen captures, stuff like that. Where it takes some effort to really determine what is what.

Andrew Cutforth Also we now have a beta version that does secure FTP and also works with Microsoft SkyDrive cloud storage. If you want to try this then email support for the beta download.

AJC Sync will give you much more control than the basic SkyDrive sync:
+ You can sync with any folder instead of having to copy all your files into a sync folder.
+ You can see what is going to be synchronized.
+ You can compare files to see what has changed.
+ You can control when to sync it.
+ Your photos will not be downsized (this happens by default with normal SkyDrive sync).

We are also working on sync with Dropbox.

Michael R. Just read about the upcoming version, which does secure ftp-sync.
Can you please explain a little what this 'secure' means?
Is the ftp-access secure or is the file-content encryptable or filenames and file-content (or all)?

And of course are all these online-synch-features you talked above free for today's buyers?

Just found out, that the portable version is not included in today's buy. Is this by purpose? Is it possible to buy the pro-version and upgrade later to the portable version (for about the normal price-difference (4$))?
Feb 13 2013 at 12:57am Copy Link
0
Andrew Cutforth It does not encrypt the content of the files (although this is in the plan for a future version). It does the SFTP and FTPS standards.

If you get the Pro edition or above you will get the upcomming cloud developments for free.

When you buy another edition you can get 50% the portable edition at that point.

Andrew Cutforth When you ask about "user" I assume you mean about the licensing. It is per user/PC.

With a single license you can install the software on a max or 2 computers as long as you only use one copy at a time and are the only person using it.

Also with a single license you can install it on one PC and have several people using it on that PC.

Andrew Cutforth Hi Dick,
Yes when you have worked on a file and then run the sync it will be selected for copy over to the equivalent folder in the other location.

Yes when you setup a sync project you can specify which folders and files will be synced. You can also run the sync project from the command line or in a batch file if you need. You can get it to make the command line for you by going to Tools, Make command line.

Dik Oz Thanks, sorry forgot these questions:
- What if I boot/hibernate or otherwise stop my computer? Will a symc job continue from where it left off?
- Same if I take my laptop on the road while synching and get out of range of the company network. Will the sync continue when I reenter the network coverage?
- And lastly if a destination network disk (share) is not available for a scheduled sync, will the start be delayed until it becomes available?
Aug 4 2013 at 6:39am Copy Link
0
Andrew Cutforth The sync is not continuous. There are two steps, it creates a sync plan showing all files that need transfer this time, then (you may make changes first) it runs the sync to copy the files.

So if your computer is off, when you start it again you can run a sync when you like or on a schedule. If there is no network connection the sync cannot run but when you do reconnect the sync plan will show what has changed since the last sync and get you up to date.

If a scheduled sync cannot run it will be missed and not delayed but the next schedule will then pick up all the changes and sync them to get up to date.

Arlene Manduca I wish I had heard about your product earlier. How does this product compare with GoodSync? Does it have additional features? Easier to use? Can you back up to a hosting service via FTP? Do I need the server edition for that? Thanks.
Aug 4 2013 at 9:34pm Copy Link
0
Andrew Cutforth You need the Pro edition for FTP and only the server edition if you are running on a server. It has an archiving system that stores multiple versions of files overwritten or deleted during the sync that you can turn on. This allows you to undo a file if you make a mistake. Its easy to use and you should download the trial version a try it.

Peter Hirsch Does it have anything that GoodSync doesn't have? Since I have it I would like to know.

Andrew Cutforth One thing it does have is the ability to undo to any version of a file overwritten or deleted during the sync if you turn on the archiving feature. Multiple versions of each file can be kept. I'm no expert on GoodSync and I'm sure there are many differences because it works in a different way. I'm not sure if any other product has a dual file explorer with both sides overlaid with color coding for example. You should give the trial version a go a and decide for yourself.

Gary Smith I have not used either software package; this information was gathered while doing my own comparisons on each product's website:

Two handy features:

GoodSync can recognize renamed files and folders and do a Move instead. AJC Sync has the file compare feature that GoodSync does not have per their website. I wish I had both features in the 2BrightSparks SyncBack program I currently am using. I may end up with all three.
Nov 15 2014 at 12:07pm Copy Link

Andrew Cutforth AJC Sync also has a unique optional archiving system that will backup files that are being deleted or overwritten during the sync to a third location and keep multiple old versions so you can undo mistakes. These backup archives are very compact because only the changes are stored each time. This is a technology that is shared with AJC Active Backup.

Gary Smith Thanks Andrew:

I have needed the third location feature before. I was looking for that feature but missed it or how it conveyed to me. Thanks for pointing out this great feature.

Is there a chance you will implement the rename scenario? I am surprised at how often renaming becomes necessary, and it is a hassle for synching.

I posted another question regarding the Portable version price vs. the Pro version price, which on your website is $4 more, but it does not show up on the Bits du Jour choices. Is there a way to offer the Portable version also, or allow Bits du Jour purchases pay the $4 in some other fashion. The Portable version is my purchase deciding factor due to doing work for a non-profit from home and office.

You **can** buy the Portable version at a reduced price (40% less) provided you also buy any version on today's promotion. It's a cross selling promotion (see any checkout page).
In other words you can have the standard version for less than $2 if you buy the Portable version full price.

I find this policy very disappointing. I can understand when a deal is for individual license only (not for commercial license). But today (and yesterday) one can buy a server license at a reduced price. Servers are not for every user when a portable version is typical of a home & work user (in teaching for instance).
Sorry to say it's a deal breaker for me.

I have been using AJC Active Backup for years. I am a developer and use it like a personal source code versioning tool. It is a well designed and very useful tool. I do not use the Syncing tool - but if it is 1/2 as good as the Active Backup tool - then it is worth the full price - let alone the discount.
I only had to use support one or two times over the years (8+) - but it has quick and helpful.
I would highly recommend this vendor and the tools.

John H Too complicated for a moron like myself which is why Dropbox is successful.
I tried several sync programs from BDJ and found way too many options and confusing licensees. A single sync folder across all my devices is a an example of brilliant simplicity.

My computer is a productivity tool, not something to fiddle with to pass time.
As bad as Dropbox is, my time is more valuable so I continued to use it. I am now using a free Dropbox Replacement without cloud storage which suites my needs better. It took less than 5 minutes to set up on 4 computers.

But free is not always free and I would be willing to purchase a moron proof Dropbox sync replacement program. Perhaps if a sync program had a Moron Mode that mimics Dropbox without cloud storage ....

Daniel Gaudet I purchased this software during the last promotion in the fall and I wanted to confirm that I can install this on all my computers.

The fine print mentions that this is licensed per user and makes no mention of any limitations on the number of installs.

The reason I ask is that the license file that comes with the software mentions that it can be used on any single computer and that a second computer can have it installed, but not running at the same time.

Which one is right? Since I purchased it through the BitsDuJour promo, I would think it's the Fine Print, but I would like to get some clarification.

Thanks in advance!

Brian De Bragança @BitsDuJour - I just bought this but had to use IExplorer to do so (shudder).

In the page to confirm the purchase, there is a button, Paypal. which when pressed should open a page saying that it is being redirected to the Paypal site for completion.

In Firefox, it landed on the re-direct page and then ... nothing, nada, zip.

I had to restart the entire process from scratch in Internet Explorer which I admit (grudgingly) then went flawlessly.

Some javascript code broken for Firefox (new version 43.0.1) perhaps?

I nearly gave up and was about to decide I could live without it, then ... I HATE IE and hate even more when simple things don't work in Ff.

Petr How does the program determine if the file on the "other side" can be updated with "only changes"? I have large VMware virtual-machine disk files that are more than 20GB each. After shutting down a VM I want to update the remote backup copy, but only send the changes (not resend the entire 20GB file).

Does the above require a licensed copy of AJC Sync to run on the other side?
If 'yes' then this feature would not work with Amazon Drive or FTP, correct?

If I buy the Server version, can it also be installed on Windows 8 or 10?

Andrew Cutforth In order to just send the changes to a file (block sync) you must be running our AJC File Server product on the machine at the other end.

You will need a license for AJC File Server on the destination machine and AJC Sync (Pro edition or higher) on the source machine. When you purchase AJC Sync you can get AJC File Server at a discount.

You are correct that the block sync does not work to Amazon or FTP. AJC File Server can be thought of as equivalent to an FTP server but more reliable and sets the time stamps correctly.

AJC Sync with a single license can be installed on a max of two computers provided you are the only user and you only run one copy at a time.

Yes if you buy AJC Sync Server edition it will run on any Windows machine including servers.

May 10 2016 at 5:13am Copy Link

Andrew Cutforth You can quickly create a new project containing one "sync pair" with the folders you want to compare as the left and right sides. Then you create a "sync plan" and this shows what is different between the folders content.

If you then decide to run the sync plan it will make the changes to make the folders content the same.

It will not help you to find duplicate folders by their content.

AJC Sync - Professional Edition
AJC Sync - Server Edition
AJC Sync - Portable Edition
AJC Active Backup

Also, I have purchased three of the above programs during previous promotions here. I guess some are older versions now. Is there a way to combine today's discounted pricing here with a discount for owning a previous version?

Is there a window showing during the backup process, or it happens in the background? Is it slowing down the PC performance during backups?

What is the difference between AJC Sync 4 Server Edition and AJC File Server?

Thanks.
May 10 2016 at 4:49pm Copy Link

Andrew Cutforth AJC Sync is at v4.0.19
AJC Active Backup is at v2.4.4

We have previously offered a discount to upgrade from AJC Sync v3 to v4 but the price here is a very good one and it can't be combined with other discounts.

AJC Sync can work in background or show progress in a window but it does not slow down performance because it has been optimized not too.

AJC Sync Server edition is the sync software that is able to run on Windows server operating systems.

AJC File Server is a server process (that can run on any Windows) that acts as a file server a bit like an FTP server does. You need to use AJC Sync as a client to connect and sync with it. It is more reliable than FTP, sets date stamps correctly and lets you do block level sync to only send changes to big files.

1- Is there any additional feature in the Server edition?
2- If I purchase Server edition, does that cover all other computers I sync with it?
May 26 2017 at 7:23am Copy Link

Andrew Cutforth The portable version is not installed but instead it is run but putting all of the program files into one folder. It needs all the files available to Windows when you run it so if you put it on Google drive you would have to sync all the files to a Windows drive before you could run it.
AJC Software - May 26 2017 at 7:38am Copy Link

Andrew Cutforth The server version is tested to work on Windows servers but the increased license also accounts for the fact that it is probably backing up on behalf of many users. It would only cover backing up the other computers if you are running it on the server and accessing files on the client. If you want to run the sync on the client then you should purchase a lesser version and install on the client.

Andrew Cutforth The newer version uses a faster snapshot database that I also think is a bit more compact. The snapshot is needed if you sync two ways because then you can tell if a file has been modified on both sides or has been deleted on one side.

You have always been able to turn the snapshots off by using the command line switch -NoSnapshot so you could use this if you are always doing a one way sync.

Thanks.

Edward Smith I am not going to purchase this product because I have it already. As a matter of fact, I have (I think) all of their products, and use them routinely. Every product this company produces is well written and works exactly as described. I know it sounds like I work for them, and I assure you I do not. I just believe credit is due when a company produces products as good as these. If you have need for this type of product, you will not go wrong with this purchase.

lisba f Since AJC Sync (beside syncing) back-ups also (sync one way), do I need your AJC Active Backup software for my backups?
Nov 24 2017 at 9:48am Copy Link
0
Andrew Cutforth You don't need AJC Active Backup but many people use Active Backup and Sync together on their machine.

AJC Active Backup gives you up to the second protection while you are working on your files so you can go back to any version, check what you actually did by using the built in diff and maybe undo some of the edits (or part of the edits).

AJC Sync then syncs your work on regular intervals to a backup drive or the cloud etc.

Sara User Would you like to give some specifics?

Text above (not yours) says: "AJC Sync features a unique archiving system" - what makes it "unique", then? How does it work? Setting "instead of overwriting, move the previous version into a sub folder" (with those sub folders created at any synch/backup, numbered/named by date)? Or renames within the same folder? Or one backup folder for each folder, and then multiple versions with different names (numbered or named by date) in those folder-specific unique backup folders? Limited numbers or as far back as the user wants those archived copies to be?

I think any such program should come with such an archive function today; programs who do not should not be bought (example: "GoodSync", but I don't know if lately, the might have introduced an archive function; probably not); so this is a very good thing, I just want to know how it functions here.

(The bad solution would be renaming by date within the same target folder, which makes that incredibly cluttered within short time; all other variants are equally acceptable, the possibly best probably being just one archive (sub) folder per target folder, within that target (sub) folder, then the archived copies being renamed (and hence automatically sorted by Windows, by date).)

The one unique functionality in your program (as the one-by-one deletion of unwanted hits (or also files) in your AJC Grep) seems to be the integrated differ (see the screenshot here). I own Syncovery (sync) and Beyond Compare (differ), but it's very inconvenient to get source and target paths, from the sync prog into the differ prog, so most of the time, you (I) just leave it at that, while, if some shortkey (?) in AJC Sync brings both files into the integrated differ, that seems very helpful indeed, for many use cases: text bodies of all sorts, as in your coding example screenshot, but what about pictures, would 2 pictures of the same name be displayed for comparison?

One other probable/y unique feature, from the screenshots: To have multiple target drives for folder groups of the same source drive, within the same sync project; since probably not all of the target drives are connected (and even should not be) at the same time, I'd rather prefer having multiple projects for multiple targets, one-by-one, but I also see there might be use cases where a user would like to make some standard backup at the same time, to 2 or more targets, be it for capacity or other reasons.

But having viewed your respective screenshot again, I see that the source folder in all these different "jobs" in that (same) "project" is the same! I suppose that was just laziness on your part, and in real use cases, those source folders could all be different? (Otherwise that "multiple targets within the same project" functionality would make much less sense indeed.)

Are there other unique features beyond those 2? (Just asking, not implying there should be some; it's quite impressing as it is, whilst most competitors are just me-too productions.)

How does AJC Backup handle symlinks? Can the user decide, by global setting, if they are "followed" (i.e. copy the respective files instead of the links = "resolving" the links), or if they are copied as-is (copy the link file)? (Even the quite renowned ViceVersa just resolves the link, while for backup use cases (i.e. maintenance of a global copy for possible hdd/ssd loss (by whatever reason), but doing archive copies, too, for possible (partially) destruction of newer files (e.g. by viruses)), not-resolving of symlinks would be indicated.)

As an aside, users who do lots of renames / moves of sub folders into other ones, like a function in the (then always-running in the background) sync tool which tries to maintain a correct list of all these renames / moves, and then, on sync/backup, first replicates these upon the target folder structure, then only doing the real compare, and which spares the target drive, in case, thousands of deletes (or moves into archive) of the files within those renamed/moved folders, for speed and wear reasons, which is why I use Syncovery (and also have updated it, since its ancient archive function had been cluttering the target sub folders with all the archived versions too, a problem which they have resolved in the meantime).

Technically, this functionality is of course not needed, and most competitors have not introduced it (I only know of 2, Syncovery and 1 other), since with overwriting, the end result of the sync would be the same, some minutes later though. In the other had, as soon as you use archiving of previous versions, if that special monitoring functionality is not there, lots of unwanted archive copies are produced and stored if the program doesn't replicate the folder renames/moves but considers them as new folders then; also, all previous copies of the files in question will be disconnected from the newer ones within the renamed/moved parts of the folder structure within the target drive(s), at the ancient (and not updated anymore) folder positions. But as implied above, that's a problem of 90 or more per cent of current sync tools, as the majority of them don't even have archiving, and it only becomes a real problem with archiving, and then, after some problem on the user's side, if you need ancient file copies.

As a general hint, developers should publish their help file, even just in the original chm format (since that can be read on any Windows system just as if the file had been triggered from within the program in question, so no need for regular transformation into pdf, html or other formats), on their websites, since that would answer many questions prospects may have, and without forcing them to install the trial (which then is "burnt", in most cases, for later, real trial).

Andrew Cutforth The optional archiving system protects against mistakes and corruption by allowing you to go back to a previous version of a file. Files that are overwritten or deleted by the sync can be archived to a third location. The archive files hold multiple versions to undo like a version control system. They are compact because only the file changes are stored each time.

When you use the built in file diff for pictures then the pictures are displayed side by side and it will be down to you visually to see what is different.

Yes each sync project can have multiple pairs of source and destination folders that are different.

A big plus with this software is the ability to view the "sync plan" before you press the button to start the sync. The sync plan shows what will happen to your files and you can make changes to what will happen before you start the sync. You can change, sync direction, remove it from the sync, show a diff etc

Another unique feature of this software is the dual Explorer view which overlays both sides of the sync pair with color coding so you can see both sides at the same time.

Also the ability to sync to a “multi drive” which is multiple locations added together to behave as if it were one big drive.

Symlinks are not given special handing.

lisba f Interesting dialogue... Please, let me ask a question of 'another' level. How can I sync two computers without an online service (Dropbox etc.) I have home a desktop and a laptop, but Microsoft discontinued Homegroup feature in Win. 10. I cannot sync like before (not even with AJC or Goodsync or Syncovery). What can I do? Is there any replacement to be able to sync my two computers without paying a monthly subscription?

Andrew Cutforth If your two computers are in the same location then you can just sync them over a network. Either wired or wireless. Or you can sync them by using a removable drive and carrying it between the computers,

If your computers are in different locations and you don't want to use a cloud service then you have two options with AJC Sync.
1. You can use a removable drive and carry it between locations.
2. If you have enough control of the environment/router/firewall etc you can install AJC File Server on one machine, make it accessible over the internet and then sync to it from the other computer. AJC File Server is an additional product you can purchase.

Andrew Cutforth Just to clarify. AJC Sync Server edition is AJC Sync that is allowed to run on machines that are Windows servers.

AJC File Server is a program that acts like a server and runs on any PC. Its a bit like an FTP server.

AJC Sync Pro edition and above can connect to cloud locations but also can talk to AJC File Server.

HJ B 1. Can this software be told to automatically synchronize files that have specified extensions, e.g doc., docx, pdf, pan., etc.?

2. At what point in the process is the file synced? i.e., every time the file is created or modified or saved or when some other trigger is activated to sync?

3. Is there a manual that can be downloaded?

4. Can the software be set so that, when a file is put into folder, the file will be placed on the remote drive or storage service, simultaneously, in an analogous folder AND in a folder of all documents with that extension AND a folder of all documents that have a key word title in their file name AND a folder of all files created or modified on that date?

Andrew Cutforth 1. Yes you can enter as many file patterns as you like.

2. The sync happens when you either manually run it, trigger it via a script or set up a schedule so it will run automatically on a regular basis.

3. There is a help file with it. Any further questions, support will be happy to help.

4. Most of those things yes because you can have multiple sync pairs in a project and sync to multiple places. There is not currently a way to sync to a different folder per date though.

HJ B @Andrew Cutforth Thank you for your reply.

1. It has been a common business practice to file a document in a client or topical folder AND to have a "day-file" which includes a copy of everything that was created or modified on that date. The day-file is helpful in many ways, to reconstruct activity of some day in the past, and to locate different versions of the same file, that may only appear in the client or topical file in one overwritten version, and to reconstruct a client or topical folder that has been lost or damaged. It also permits a search across day-files for documents of similar type that are in different client or topical files. I note all of this because if you create a day-file capability, you should bear in the mind various ways in which a day-file can be used and include features that facilitate those different ways. You might also keep in mind that a day-file may be that of an individual or a department/team or of an organization. It is also possible that an individual may have reason to segregate day-files according to clients or projects or companies. A naming and filing convention option ought be available for any or all of those possibilities.

2. Is the manual available in pdf format?

Andrew Cutforth If you want to know what happened to your files each day then you should also look at our other product, AJC Active Backup. This is like version control for your hard drive and archives files each time you save giving unlimited undo.

Sorry the help is not in pdf format currently.

Scott User Three questions:
1) what encryption algorithm is used or is it user selectable? i.e. AES256, AES128, BlowFish, etc
2) assuming the answer to question 1 is AES, does the app leverage CPU encryption functions, such as Intel's AES-NI?
3) during a transformation, does the app hash the file for file integrity confirmations later? i.e. SHA256, SHA384, SHA512, etc

I looked on your website but was unable to find answers to these questions. TIA

Andrew Cutforth 1. It uses AES 256. We could on request look at adding additional transform options.

2. I don't know about AES-NI. It uses .Net to do the encryption.

3. No it does not add an additional hash.
