Richard I do not see anywhere on the site that "normal" licenses are only good for one year. It shows that updates are extra which is OK but not that you lose the ability to use the software if you do not upgrade.

So it appears that the 53% discount is not really a discount but for a year long trial or they are hiding the fact that you are only getting a year on the website.

Either way I will have to pass which is too bad as it looks like a nifty little piece of software.

Norwel Gordon Here is another offer where "The Fine Print" does not give full details about the license agreement. It surely sounds like a one year rental with an unknown and probably a higher cost to renew each year.

If the vendor cannot at least respond in a timely manner in "The Conversation"
with FULL details then my time is being wasted and I also pass.

Contrast this with yesterday's offer from SoftMaker. A great product at very good price with one of the best ULAs and full disclosure.

I quickly accepted that offer and appreciate the vendors attention to the needs of possible purchasers.

Koingo So, you folks have it wrong. The license you get here from Bitsdujour IS NOT a "rental" it is a full retail version valid for life. However, upgrades are paid. Just the same as any other shareware app.

Koingo The wording on the site here is wrong. The license you get is a full retail license. You can use it for LIFE. However, if we release a paid upgrade in the future (which is often yearly), you can OPTIONALLY pay the upgrade fee to use the new version.

Koingo I can see where this is confusing, because we *also* offer a subscription model to our software. But, this is not what you get with the BitsDuJour version. You get the "pay as you go" version which works as I've described above.

BDJ is very prompt at correcting reported errors. The vendor should monitor "The Conversation" and their promotion and advise BDJ and "The Conversation" as soon as a potential error is discovered.

After a long search for a copy of your EULA on your web site without success I Finally found the following hint buried deep down your "FAQ" under the heading "Subscriptions/Re-Billing"

"Kallaxa Software takes a modern approach to software development. We understand that it can be a hassle to keep software licenses up to date. Subscriptions put your mind at ease. All of our products are bundled with annual subscription plans by default. This can optionally be removed from the shopping cart at check-out time.

On a plan: Keeping a subscription active will ensure you always have the latest version of the app, and are never locked out when we release a new version. It is also substantially more cost-effective than without a plan!

Without a plan: Without a subscription plan, apps must be upgraded manually. The app will never expire, and you may continue using it indefinitely. However, we do not support older versions. If an update to Mac OS or Windows breaks app, you're stuck! New paid upgrades will be more expensive than if you had been on a plan, but you can pick and choose when you upgrade.".

OPT OUTS are another practice I consider less than full disclosure.

Koingo Lol you guys are funny. I'm the CEO guys. I'm telling it like it is. You're misunderstanding. We offer 2 packages: subscription or pay as you go. You're getting a pay as you go from BDJ not a subscription. What do you mean opt out? Of what?

It was clear to me that he meant the line from the EULA referencing the annual subscription:
"This can optionally be removed from the shopping cart at check-out time."

"Opt out" would not be an incorrect way of referencing that line.

My question is, "Do you not get a chance to review what Bits du Jour intends to publish before the public sees it?" If so, did you do so or did you miss it, or explain the exact case. I think it might help your case to explain how Bits du Jour published the wrong information without you knowing. If you are not given the chance to review, then I believe that is a policy that Bits du Jour could work on. Please help put our minds at ease; others are interested.

Also, has the wording on Bits du Jour been changed to your satisfaction yet?

Chris Since you clarified the rental thing, how about your restrictive install policy: Online license activation is required with a hardware footprint, and 1 installation per footprint.

Also, it isn't right to laugh at potential customers questions.
