Franck W I'd like some clarification regarding the licensing policy.

- one computer only
- no computer change allowed
- online activation
- with hardware footprint

It just seems crazy to me... Obviously I don't understand what is allowed and what is not... It can't be...

The soft by itself seems really promising.
Thanks !

Eddie Tex @ Franck W

Per the FAQ section of their website (
The Single License may either be: Used by a single person who uses the software personally on one or more computers OR Installed on a single computer and be used non-simultaneously by multiple people.

Note also that the developer offers free upgrades for life... so even if it were limited to one computer (which it is not), the offer wouldn't be crazy at all, in my opinion.

Franck W. As per their FAQ, it sounds indeed a nice deal...

Steven Avery Hi,

This is a genre where I consider the leaders in recent days to be RightNote (strong on inserting tables and spreadsheets), TreeDbnotes and the freeware Keynote-NF, with another dozen products that are worthwhile, but maybe not quite as elegant and usable. Keynote-NF is functional, with a bit of a spartan feel.

It is also an area where a professional product in the $25 range is a great investment, the type of software you will use every day.

AML looks very nice, but afaik it has not been discussed much (is it fairly new ?) e.g. on the famous Donationcoder note discussion. The tab setup looks fine.

So anyone who could share some of the distinctions, this would be very helpful, including the vendor. This inquiry is meant as supportive and positive, I am always looking for a good professional note program and just asked Bits to seek out RightNote. If this is competitive in functionality and usability and elegance, I will definitely give it a go, but can not load it up till tonight.

Bob Roberts Aml Pages looks to be a fine program. I recently bought Surfulater on a BDJ special. Aml seems like it is similar in function. Would anyone have a comparison of the two programs?

Steven Avery Hi,

Good question, Robert - the developer is overseas ... maybe a bit of communication difficulty and Nico can get on it.

Note that there is a Russian-English support forum, a good sign that this is an active developer, although the number of posts is lean, and mostly in Russian.

In 2008 Mazov Gosha, makes a comment or two on the FileForum discussion.
Mazov agreed that the GUI is not the best (I would say not so crisp looking comprared to TreeDbNotes and RightNote) and also pointed out some features in Ami not in the competition. Fair enough.

Here is a review that looks favorable and appears non-biased.

Note that they mention Treepad and Maple, two others that are similar to the three alternatives I mention above. The genre is rich.

Surfulater I think is more a web-clipper and organizer than a tree-structured all purpose note program. With a note program you design the tree hierarchies as you go along, move stuff about, print it out. In my experience, Surfalater, although a nice program, really does not function in that way.

Glen Hilton RE Steven
This appears like a good BDJ deal for those wishing to locate a reasonably priced Note Organiser. With only a brief test it does most of what one would expect with a few reservations. The spellchecker while not standard is apparently available as a plug-in along with a number of others, so that looks fine. The UI-themes can be customised, which is probably a good idea. One of my concerns is the apparent inability of multi node copy or move. Judging by the Version History this program is frequently updated so perhaps the developer will consider this in a future release. As for alternatives TreeDbNotes is a competent organiser with plenty of user customisation options though perhaps a little fussier with data-backup retrieval, has a slightly longer learning curve, and is a little slower to open. If your after plenty of options TreeDbNotes is a good choice, I've used it for years though am now using and prefer My Notes Keeper which is a great all - rounder, and it also has responsive and active development in regard to customer feedback. Whilst lacking the finesse of some of the competition AML has a few extra features inc a handy Drop Box and at this price with free upgrades I'll be happy to purchase a license. Even with a another organiser this would be useful to use as a 2nd or specialised notes organiser.
Both Treepad and Maple have varying versions and prices along with other pros and cons. Keynote, All My Notes etc have other issues. So this deal appears to be a rather good deal.

Steven Avery Hi Folks,

Thanks Glen,

It is a nice program, although I feel more confident with RightNote in terms of structure and stability. You are right that a person can often have more than one (e.g. one may handle personal notes in a nice way, another may be better for a web note research project .. when the price is $15 or so you can afford to shake it out as the time goes on.

I looked for a "remove formatting" option (bring a section to plain text) .. so far I have not found it, this is my first test for any of these programs. It seems so rudimentary that the omission to me is an example of developer undevelopment.

Anyway, I still may consider it, as their sample has some nice inline pictures. (Poor color choices, though, a so-so color esthetic sense. ). Not sure yet.

On a quick look-see My Notes Keeper lacks the tab feature that can help unclutter the Explorer-style index, by adding another dimension, ie. multiple note indexes in one file (page). Am I right about that limitation (something I like about Treedbnotes and Rightnote and Keynote-NF and I consider close to fundamental (with good "rich text format" and some basics.

Eddie Tex @ Glen and Steve

Thank you both for your thoughts and recommendations regarding other competing products. I too am big on note keeping and have used TreePad but have been looking for something better, which by the way DOES support pasting without formatting which is nice... but does not support Unicode and the text formatting can get a bit weird with longer notes.

I've looked at several other alternatives that showed up here on BDJ including AllMyNotes (too weak in features) and TreeProjects (which I purchased b/c of Unicode support and a great split-screen feature which I have yet to find in a competing product but is also lacking in some usability features... thus I use for highly specialized needs that require the split screen and unicode support).

The other tool that I'll mention which I find absolutely indispensable is ConnectedText, which is more of a Wiki style note taker. That will probably remain as my single most important application on my PC. That said, it's a heavier application that requires some symbolic linking to use with DropBox. It also can't run as more than one instance and is more cumbersome with quick scratch style notes. Nothing comes close to it though in terms of power and options to relating and linking your notes together.

Aml looks interesting but I'm not fond of the UI. Looks very cluttered. More disturbing to me is the lack of vendor activity thus far.

I've noted both of your suggestions and am looking forward to trialing them myself.
Oct 30 2011 at 9:37pm Copy Link
Steven Avery Thanks, Eddie,

Aml has given me a note:

"Dear Aml Pages User,
Thank You for trying Aml Pages!
You`ve been able to evaluate this trial version for 40 days. However, as 40-day trial period has finally expired, ...."

I just installed it a couple of hours ago.

In other products: Treesheets and InfoQube received some special discussions on DonationCoder, but they are a bit different, MyBase is always interesting.

The one I suggest to give special attention is RightNote. Compares most directly to TreeDbNotes, but watch the way that a table or spreadsheet can be entered right in a note.

I'll take a more careful look at ConnectedText.

Your point about TreeProjects is interesting, as in this pic:

I can see how that feature can be nice. Can you describe one of the usability lacks.

We could take this over to a new DonationCoder thread, where these discussions are normative.

Glen Hilton MNK supports Tabs for Notes though not nodes. It naming process it a little different than other apps though I thinks it works well. A couple of other tree option apps might include UltraRecall and Ask Sam previously offered on BDJ. Mars notebook is fast and compact and yet another value option.
Regarding Aml the spell checker plugin. Uncertain and pending reply from Aml Pages. Glen

The 40 day bug has bitten hre as well
Oct 30 2011 at 11:43pm Copy Link
Eddie Tex @ Glen,

I had tried UltraRecall as well. I thought it was perfect in many ways, BUT it did not support unicode and the developers had no real interest in adding it when I contacted them (neither did TreePad for that matter).

@ Steve,

I found TreeProjects to be lacking in the sense of keyboard shortcuts when entering/editing notes. There's no means provided to assign a shortcut key to bullets and to indenting or outdenting... you have to use your mouse to click on those buttons up above... and if the edit window is narrow enough (such as when you have the split screen view), then you won't have access to those buttons at all.

While I've found the formatting of notes to be mostly well done, there are inconsistencies. Like with bullets... when using them, the wraparound text goes all the way to the left instead of aligning with the bullets. And introducing different fonts sometimes have a way of being forgotten when hitting the "Enter" key. TreePad on the other hand, for all of its UI deficiencies and warts, didn't exhibit these issues and I probably would have stuck to it if it was at least able to support Unicode.

That said, I'm a seminary student studying Greek and Hebrew and I find the split screen combined with the unicode support incredibly helpful when doing language work. None of the other note-taking applications could support those two features (but I have not yet tried the options you and Glen have mentioned).

I've noticed that other BDJ users really like TreeProjects for its file attachment feature. You can set it to monitor a folder area and any file that is found there is automatically read into its database. I don't find a need for this feature, but that could be a killer feature for someone else.

Valeria Gyenge Hi Everybody who haven't been using yet Aml Pages, this excellent software!

For my and surely the developer's hope they will use soonest, and will be satisfied by its working.

I could never seen a such reach functionality Note taking software, which is under about the developer's continuous care. He maintains and tracks also the claims for improving his product. I know, because I requested many improvement changes and he really did. Many thanks for him here, too!

So what is Aml Pages at all?

- A professional desktop notes organizer-outliner and much more!
- It keeps track all your notes, information, passwords, emails and URLs, can save web pages (or fragments), even developers can use it for code segment gathering helping them with syntax highlighting, using a feature rich User Interface (UI).
- Supports plain text, rich text, html, tables and pictures, file attachments, iconized tree.
- The built in Rich text editor very handful for formatting your notes, any text, even you can edit saved web page fragments in html mode, and can syntax highlight program codes.
- You can insert any picture JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, Bitmap, Icon, Windows Metafiles,
- The bookmarking within a page is an excellent feature, you don't find in any else Note taking software!
- Has a wide range Filter and Find capability in the whole document, text nodes/pane, bookmarks, The search results can be saved.
- You can use text and also styled text templates and also you can define your own styles.
- There are several plugins many built-in which further broadens its functionality.
- The Aml Assist or IE2Aml IE toolbar plugin integrate its work supporting Drag and Drop, with FF, Chrome, Safari and many well known application MsWord, MsOutlook, Ms Visal Studio,.... In the case of IE2Aml allows saving immediately from the IE toolbar.
- text auto completion, auto replace, handling favorites, exporting Aml Pages documents into a tree of folders and files, even XML. So, it also can be integrated well with MindMapper/Freeplane .

If you ever used any Tree Outliners like Treepad, Maple, KeyNote you will really appreciate the rich functionality and its simple even clever UI of this AMl Pages software It may be useful not only for programmers, project managers, but can further improve anyone's daily and also serious research work!

I can offer for everyone+

Robert W Hummm... your policy is that: Aml Pages is licensed per computer, and not per user, with a hardware footprint. Transfer of a license to another owned computer is not allowed. I am not fond of that type of license agreement.

So if I upgrade from one old computer to a newer computer -- I would need a new license? Or if my computer crashes -- and I bought a new computer -- again I would need a new license?

How about if I was smart/lucky enough, and remember to uninstall your software first, before attempting to install on a new computer. would that still require a New license?

Would you also offer 50% off on the "Home License" which I understand would cover 4 Computers?

I didn't see anything about a machine-specific foot print, but it's hard to tell given where I got it. There are some video tutorials on the web site. I've heard complaints about it crashing, but I have not seen it crash on Vista or 7. There are a bunch of free 3-party plug-ins, and the plug-ins were crashy. Overall, pretty cool. Worth a checkout overall.

The machine where I *had* intended to install the product does not have an Internet connection, never has, never will.
Hence, I cannot install the product.

(Someday, prolly when Hell freezes over, developers might recognize that _per machine_ installation is a failure in process. Lifetime upgrades are worthless when tied to hardware which is frequently outdated and updated.)

Software Guy Notable features: AML Pages is portable, with one year free upgrades, the developer provides great support, and the license can be installed on up to 4 computers. AML is a full featured notes software. The only thing I found missing was a good calendar and reminder function but you could always link internally to the free SSuite Office Year Calendar and Planner from here (free)
This software is a great match for Leadertask users and features a drobbox plugin as well as many others. There is an ebook plugin available.
The developers website is nicely done and contains much useful information supporting the program. If you need a full featured notes program this is definitely worth a look.

DroidLuvr I got a free single license (without ability to upgrade) from another software site and used it for a while and I have to say it was a great software package! It was just a bummer that it was a non upgradable license, so I was thrilled to be able to buy this license from BDJ!! It was absolutely well worth every penny for the 4-user license!!!

The developer is VERY ACTIVE in developing this software, and there have been some great changes in the last few months. If you're looking for a great webpage saver, notes organizer, to do list software, etc., you can't go wrong here. I have barely scratched the surface of what this software can do. I would say my only complaint is the same as Software Guy above: there isn't really a calendar/email link capability, although anything from your calendar or email can be copy/pasted into AML.

It has a great little note icon that hangs out quietly on your screen and you can drag anything you copy into AML from anywhere! The developer listens to suggestions and responds promptly to tech support. The forums are a little lacking in English posts (mostly Russian) but maybe that will change as more people become aware of this awesome software!
Dec 7 2012 at 4:09pm Copy Link
Rick Truell not funny: I agree with you completely regarding Facebook. That said, hijacking a thread is a major no-no. There is a topic regarding the free deals on Facebook in the forum area...that is where you should have posted your complaint.

Brad I purchased this software over the weekend when it was on promotion here at Bits, however I have not been in receipt of the license file.

I contacted Avangate the processor of the transaction, and they sent an email to the company on Sunday. I assumed this notification would be actioned upon by today. Yet its 7:00 PM Monday and I have yet to hear a thing. The PayPal transaction cleared without issue.

I think the company is based in Russia so perhaps we are in this I am up they are asleep and vice-versa. In any event I am hoping that by posting here that this may directly reach someone at the company who work with Bits to put this promotion together.

I have also contacted the company directly via there support form on Saturday evening, but alas to no avail. I hope this in not an indication of support to come. My experience at present seems to run counter to DroidLuvr who has had great experiences with the company.

I will give the company another 24 hours and then I will request request a refund from either PayPal or Avangate.

Avangate suggested that perhaps the license file may have been lost in my SPAM folders however I have been monitoring these folders very closely since the purchase and nothing has dropped in my SPAM regarding the transaction. gMail keeps SPAM for 30 days before deleting and I have done several searches for the word amlpages, so nothing came to me here.

I am at a loss.

Regards, Brad

Brad Dear Gosha

Thank-you for sending me the license file and resolving this issue, it is now in my possession

Apparently this thread is monitored closely; in any event, this minor service issue has been resolved satisfactorily.

Now about the program I really like the flexibility and depth of configuration you can accomplish with this small but powerful program. This is what appealed to me the most regarding this software.

Many other software packages I have purchased over the last year, like Right Notes, AllMyNotes, SwiftToDoList, BlackHoleOrganizer, I like all of them in various ways, but this packages seems way more comprehensive. Bottom line I really like the portability of the application, its not necessary to tie it to one PC, just put it on a USB stick and away you go.

It makes the gathering, storage and retrieval of raw information seem effortless. I really use that little panel on the desktop which sits there above all applications. You can copy and select and then drag part of a web page to this little panel and what do you know you have a document already created in amlPages. Very slick, nice.

If you in the market for a first class app for gathering tons of useful and useless information. Here it is!

Thanks Again Gosha for license file.

Lots of fairly simple add-ons. Is anything coming soon which
would support "multiple inheritance" of note hierarchies, as is
done in C++ with object hierarchies?

See to tags. This is analogue of multiple inheritance.

Peter User can Ami be synchronized across devices including tablets and smartphones?

Gosha Mazov You can use free plugin Aml2Evernote. See here on our web site here

Peter User Thank you Gosha for the quick reply. It is very helpful, as we can see from that link other interesting plugins also available for Ami.

The only thing I wonder is if I could take notes on my tablet, and have them sync back to Ami?

Gosha Mazov @Peter User: back sync with tablets Aml Pages does not support. Only import.

Gary Mugford Gosha, I'm a pretty heavy Evernote user, so my original response to seeing your offer was to move on to the next offer. But my ONE area of conflict with Evernote is the lack of a quality built-in outliner and the perpetually poor horrible output to PDF (Try printing to a pdf printer with ANY link included).

So, my questions for you are [1] Can Aml serve as an outliner that I can print from AND [2] export that outline into Evernote and have Evernote do a decent job of representing that outline for on-screen purposes? I know you have an Evernote plugin. But [3] how good is it?

Even if the one-way trip to Evernote isn't the best, [4] could Aml do the outliner role adequately? I would need export to a web-page, as well as printing to a PDF.

Bottom line, I'm looking for an Evernote partner, not a replacement. I need better outlining and printing to PDF. I've got a slight need for printing to a presentable stand-alone web-page. If Aml can fill those roles, you will have my money in short order.

Robert Bull @Gary Mugford: Take a look at RightNote. I don't know if it will do exactly what you want, but it's quite strongly focused on Evernote (some people think *too* strongly). The Bits discount for it is here: However, Evernote sync is only available in the Pro version, which even at Bits discount is more expensive than AML Pages at full price... Comparison chart for RightNote versions is here: Also try reviewing the various threads on RightNote over at DonationCoder (little if anything there yet about AML Pages).

Gary Mugford @Robert Bull: Thanks for linking to an alternative that appears to be in the same niche. I gave the freeware version a quick twirl and decided not to continue testing. My most immediate need is for good outlining and RightNote just doesn't work like I think. I don't like the flattening of an outline when I print to my PDF printer and the lack of sub-renumbering is a fail in my thinking. The export to an Evernote note didn't survive the first edit. In fact, my guess is that the whole outlined note came over as either a spaces or tabs included all richtext note. I get that RightNote is full-featured, but it's NOT the set of features that I want. I WILL say that whatever it does to links works better than when I enter in a link directly into Evernote and then subsequently print. So it had the second problem solved. But as an outliner with quck and easy re-organization? No.

But I do appreciate you responding to my comment. Wish I could say the same for the programmer of this product. I know it's a weekend, but when you DO a WEEKEND promotion, letting MORE than 24 hours pass on a supposed one-day promotion without answering questions means this product is unlikely to be what I want. In other words, NO SALE. Which is too bad.

Robert Bull @Gary Mugford: I had no idea RightNote was so poor in that area, but, I hope you tested a recent evaluation version of RN Pro. The free version doesn't have Evernote sync at all, according to the features chart. RN's author has done a lot of work on Evernote sync in Pro over the last year. But as for it not working "the way you think"... maybe that's why there are so many two-pane outliners :( As for AML Pages, I think the deal has been extended to three days? The authors are Russian, which may add a time-zone difference.

Robert Crombie Can anyone provide me feedback, as to how well this handles images ?
Say I pasted a lot of JPGs into it, would it get too big, or too sluggish, or worse crash ?

geo User Can anyone chime in on how well Aml Pages works with web content clipping and entire page captures? What about similar software that handles these tasks?
I am not referring to just screenshots of what is on the screen but instead capture an entire page top to bottom. Some tools for screen capture for example, seem to stop short of grabbing a very long page. For example an expanded comments page here at BDJ could easily get to 30000 pixels long if it is a screen capture. I have not seen anything that can handle that. So, was wandering how Aml Pages would handle that. If any one user here has this software could test it with a BDJ comments page that has a very long list of entries.
