JMJ Squared I would download and buy this just because of DEREK LEE's excellent writing.

Then, after looking at the Developer's website, examples' gallery and terms, downloaded the Trials of this coming offer and his DP Animation Maker, I am doubly sold! Amazing software.

@Denis Burenkov - Greetings!
1. Is Animated Wallpaper Maker (and Animated Screensaver Maker, please) compatible with Stardock's ObjectDesk PLUS and their Fences?
2. Are your three Extension Packs interoperable; e.g., can I use the DP Extension Pack with Animated Wallpaper Maker?
3. Your prices (especially considering this giveaway) are very reasonable but will you consider package-pricing for your three main Products and their Extension Packs?

Thanks for the freebie and please enjoy much, continued success.

Denis Burenkov Hi JMJ Squared,

1. No, Unfortunately Animated Wallpaper Maker is not compatible with Stardock's Fences.

2. Yes. You need only one instance of each Extension Pack. They will be available in DP Animation Maker and Screensaver/Wallpaper Makers

3. We can discus additional bulk discounts personally, please contact us through contact form on our website.

CthulhuSaves I'd kill for someone to bring back the feature of being able to set an animated GIF as background. Used to be able to do that, but no longer. I've asked the devs of similar programs to this one about such a feature, and they always make some lame excuse or try to say it's "too low quality," which is BS. It was an awesome thing while it lasted, especially when you've collected a bunch of really good ones and thrown them into a folder to be randomly displayed at intervals. Seriously, the first wallpaper program that makes that possible again is the one that gets my money.

Denis Burenkov Hi CthulhuSaves,

In Animated Wallpaper Maker you can do the following: import your GIF into the scene, streach it to the whole screen and then set this scene as your animated wallpaper.

ouialaraison @CthulhuSaves

To give you an idea, here follow some examples of what I could do in Desktop Paints’ Animated Wallpaper Maker and Animated Screensaver Maker with stretched animated GIFs found on the internet.

Portraits:
http://www.archive-host.c...0997d3.zip

Munch & Picasso:
http://www.archive-host.c...185a61.zip

(Each zip contains 2 animated wallpapers + 2 matching screensavers, all with mp3. This is why they are a bit heavy, but perfectly clean: it is homemade.)

By the way, if Mr Burenkov is still around, I think it would be nice if there were a place where we could all exchange our "creations" with DP softs.

JMJ Squared @Denis Burenkov - Thanks for the info regarding Stardock compatibility, which makes my request for bulk pricing or a "package deal" irrelevant.

OFF TOPIC: I purchased your DP Animation Maker and Extension Packs and am having a blast! Can do in minutes what took hours patching together in other apps like you-know-who.

@ouialaraison (cool name) - Nice. I especially like your choice of artwork. :)

CthulhuSaves Tried the method described above by Denis, but all that did was give me a static 1-frame image version of the animated gif, which I then had the option of adding whatever "effects" were available in the program. Am I missing something? I never could find an "import" option for the image, so ended up just dragging-and-dropping it into a new project, then previewing it.
Aug 14 2013 at 5:20am Copy Link

Denis Burenkov It seems that you just opened your GIF as background image. You should do this in another way. Click the "Add animation" button, go to "Stationary Objects" list "Import Image..." (it the first option) and click the "Add" button. Then navigate to your GIF and open it.

In the menu on the left you can tune size and speed of your animation.

ouialaraison Actually, there seems to be a bug in the most recent version I have now (3.2.5 – I guess it is the one being offered here).

When I enter a GIF, animated or not, transparency is not supported, although it is supported with PNGs.

But I can enter my GIF with transparent parts in Animated Screensaver Maker (same version number), and subsequently run the program in Animated Wallpaper Maker, and transparent it is!

It is definitely caused by wrong update. If automatic update does not resolve the problem. Uninstall Animated Wallpaper Maker completely and then install it again.

Software Babe @CthulhuSaves: there are less pixels in a GIF and it is only an 8-bit format which means the maximum number of colors supported by the format is only 256. This is why the quality is lower than a JPG or PNG. The GIF is good for SMALL animated icons and graphics on a web site, but when you enlarge them, such as for a wallpaper, you have to consider the QUALITY and compression rate: LZW compression, which compresses at a ratio of between 3:1 and 5:1. Since the GIF file contains more than 1 graphic (most common), then it becomes a very large file and is harder to compress than any other graphic; in other words, the compression rate is lower.

GIFs have a lossless data compression system so it is useful for resizing images. It is generally a bad choice to use GIFs for photos as it requires the use of dithering (a method that creates colors not available in the 256 GIF colors by overlapping different colored pixels.) This makes for a gigantic file size when dealing with images that have lots of variants in color.

GIFs were specifically created for web-related pages because of the1-color transparency effect.

Jim Buchanan Hi. A couple questions which should be easily answered.
1st - In these 2 sets of instructions - How to Make a GIF Screensaver and How to Put Animated GIFs in My Desktop Wallpaper - it says that I need Windows XP. Is that true or are the instructions just for XP. I have Win7.
2nd - I have been waiting for the license key for over a half hour. No email has arrived. My order number is "mWSLA8". IS there a delay in getting these out or something?
Aug 14 2013 at 9:39am Copy Link

Denis Burenkov In animated wallpaper maker you cannot make a screensaver.

To put Animated GIFs as your desktop wallpaper with Animated Wallpaper Maker you can do the following: import your GIF into the scene, streach it to the whole screen and then set this scene as your animated wallpaper.

re: g hudak's question "failed to create 3D device",

I have the same problem, and after five attempts to locate any possible missing files that may be the issue, including half an hour searching Microsoft's site for 3D tools, I finally came back to this forum to ask the same question as g hudak.

It would certainly have saved a lot of time and trouble if you had mentioned the system requirements in your offer of this software. Had I known my system couldn't handle it I wouldn't have bothered to download and install.

In addition, wouldn't it be a good idea if all BduJ's vendors/developers made the same effort to inform us of the system requirements of their software? That surely would spare us a lot of "help! it won't work for me!" posts.

JMJ Squared @g hudak @ Ron Cavin - Unless you have a really, really old computer, it's unlikely that your hardware doesn't meet Minimum Requirements. Try this:

1. Run Windows Update to make sure DirectX is fully updated. If no joy, then,

2. Check your DirectX installation for errors, here: http://windows.microsoft....th-DirectX.

Hope this helps.

Does this provision in this deal: "You must install/register the software while the promotion is active, and cannot do so afterwards", mean that if for some reason my computer crashes, that I cannot re-install/re-register the program, after this promotion is complete, or does it mean "that once I register/install the software during the promotion" that I can re-install/re-register?

Thanks for the clarification!!

Software Babe You all know that animation-type software diminishes your system resources and uses a LOT of memory, don't you? And, even if you install it and don't use it, it does as well.

While I understand some of this stuff is just fun, and it is, is it necessary in this day and age? Get yourself a 2nd used PC and put it on that. Keep it off your main PC or you will see your system diminish. Be sure to get the freeware RAINMETER and keep it on your desktop so you can watch what hogs these apps are.

Brent Carey @Red Microuser, it is a very nice program. Desktop Paints makes some really nice software. You can create something really unique for your desktop.

@Software Babe, this software also has practical applications, such as setting yourself a reminder for something you need to do. Of for, putting up a favorite inspirational quote, etc. And Animated Wallpaper Maker (nor does the generated desktop wallpaper) does not use system resources when it is not running. I just looked at my system resources.

Adele Michaels Does this support multiple screens? I have 3 screens with a composite wallpaper, each screen has a different image. I thought it would be cool to animate it

Edit: I made it, and it does support many screens as a composite but it makes the icons completely unusable and adds a drop shadow to them. Also there is a big black vertical bar about a third of the way across the middle screen. Makes my desktop completely unusable.

Mr Dave "Product activation has failed."
Please let us know if this gets fixed.
I'm using Win 10. Never had a problem with any of the Desktop Paints programs on my Vista computer, they worked well.
