What are people saying about Auslogics BoostSpeed v5

Alan I have been waiting for this to come to BDJ so I will be purchasing.

I have used the Free Portable version of the Disk Defragmenter and love it. It's fast, tells you exactly what it's doing and does a great job.

I do have a question on the licensing, the website did say that it was a subscription service and was for 3 pc's. I want to make sure that this is still correct? I am not always a big fan of subscription services, but since these tools need updating all the time, I'm fine even though I have 5 computers at my house, which means 2 of them will probably not be as protected, but that's the way it goes.

Thanks

Rick Gardiner Dear Alan, Albeit being a subscription service, the software will not stop operating after one year. You will not be eligible for the new versions and the software will gently remind you that it wants you to renew the subscription; but other than that it will keep on working. Auslogics Team

Alan Thanks
As I said, in this case I don't really mind the subscription because I really want the latest and greatest versions all the time. I will be purchasing at least 1 copy when this offer comes up.
Thanks
Alan

Merle One Hi, A technical question about the defragmenter : 1/ does it sort directories on NTFS partitions 2/ same question for FAT32 ones. Thanks !

Keith Norton I tried this out on a Win7/64 computer that had become quite slow. The program's modifications definitely sped it up and the defragger worked quickly and apparently successfully. Some of the program features are only available in the paid version and it looks like I'll be buying it for further tweaking.

The software simplifies access to settings that are already available within various Windows layers and one of the modules is simply the Windows Uninstall program, but I think the convenience factor would even be helpful to a power user.

My one quibble is that the initial scan told me my graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 4870) did not support Aero and that I should disable the Aero feature set. I think my card does support Aero, but I will need to double check. Perhaps the software was referring to the onboard graphics that are not being used (though I think that does Aero too). In any event, disabling Aero cripples some other software I use regularly.Edit: I just double checked Aero compatibility. Some online threads indicate that Microsoft Windows 7 advisor claims incompatibility with my graphics card, but I just ran the latest version and both my onboard graphics and add-on card are in fact fully compatible with Win 7. Boost Speed still looks like useful software despite this hiccup.

Louis H I am in my second year of using this program and I remain very satisfied with it and can confirm that it does a very good job of keeping my Win 7 Professional 64 bit system running smoothly. When I started with it I was using Vista Ultimate 64 bit and it never gave me problems with that OS, either. So I plan on sticking with this one for the foreseeable future!

Keith Norton The BDJ page above says "Licensed per computer for concurrent use" but the purchase page says it is for "3 PCs." The Auslogic website also says "3 PCs" and provides volume discounts from the regular price. Usually the BDJ purchase page reflects the same volume pricing structure as the product's website, but this time that feature is missing. In fact, one cannot alter the quantity field on the purchase page. $10 per PC seems a fantasic deal, why the quantity restriction?

Stan @Auslogics: You wrote " Product purchase allows use for 12 read more months" Does that mean that I have to renew the license every 12 month? Best regards

Louis H @Stan - per Rick from Auslogics (see his comment above) - (and from my understanding as a user going on one and a half years) whatever version you currently own at the time your 12 months is up will continue to work - what you will need to renew your subscription for is if you want to keep getting new updates and upgrades.

@Keith - I did not get Boostspeed from BDJ, so I don't know what Auslogics will say, but I do know that my license - direct from Auslogics - is indeed for three PCs.

Stan @Louis: IMHO is " Product purchase allows use for 12 read more months " not the same as a 12 month upgrade/update period. But you`re right: Rick told the answer ;)

Merle One Hi,
I just bought a license and got a confirmation for :
BoostSpeed 5 - Annual Subscription (3 PCs, 1 year)

As stated above, I would much have preferred :
BoostSpeed 5 - 3 PCs, 1 year updates/upgrades
if it's what is really meant.

If the software cease to work in 1 year after activation (or purchase.?), I'll be really unhappy.

Louis H Merle,  it is not going to stop working after a year. All that will happen is you will no longer be able to update it to the newest version. But the version you have, at the time your subscription ends, will still work.

Granted, as Stan pointed out, the "policy" as posted here on BDJ, sounds like the program will stop working, but as Rick, from Auslogics, has already clarified, all that "stops" is your ability to update/upgrade. (Until, of course, you pay for another year of updates/upgrades.)

I think Roger, from BDJ, will confirm that from time to time what gets printed on the page here at BDJ is not always correct. And I am sure it will get corrected eventually. Till then, however, based on my past 18 months or so working with this program and the support team from this company, I know I trust Rick, from Auslogics, to give the correct information.

Roger Thomasson Ok, here's the official word on the licensing policy folks (sorry about the confusion): Concurrent use on up to 3 PC's (Cool!) 12 Months of free upgrades As Rick mentioned above, after 12 months BoostSpeed will NOT cease to function.  However, the purchaser will no longer be entitled to free version upgrades. Hope this clears things up -- enjoy the promotion! -r
