What are people saying about BeyondSync Pro

adrian williams I'm trialling this software and I'm comparing it aginast ajc directory synchronizer (software I've used for some time). My interest was specifically with the scheduling opptions. I set a project up - a simple copy files from a network folder to a local folder. My findings to date with this is - it doesn't schedule as expected. Even setting the realtime synch - not a lot's happening. (I have clicked on activate by the way). I've emailed support and await their comments . I'm running Vista ultimate.

One other thing to try - Set up a simple task, set the option to 'files/folders need to be synchronised' and run the preview - I get a floating point error every time I run it.

Can anyone else replicate these problems ?

adrian williams Wow, what support - I've had Lewis on a remote control link to resolve the issue with Vista for the last couple of hours. He's managed to trace and resolve the issue of floating point error and also is looking into to the minute scheduling part of the software. Compared to other software (mentioning no names - Nuance, who ask for your credit card details before saying hello) Fevosoft deserve every sale they can get on Thursday. The realtime synch is excellent for mirroring key folders. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this software.

Van Swofford Adrian,
How does it compare with AJC Directory Synchronizer? That's also the one I've been using.

adrian williams For the sums on money involved I'd buy it anyway - Getting from program start to the files being synched is much quicker with Beyond synch - all the projects are there for you to enable/disable -I could never get the scheduler to work for me in AJC and there have been times when the file comparison criteria have resulted in some files not being transferred, - Give this software a try - the realtime option is good if you want to mirror folders - much like the ajc active backup, a program I would never be without - it's saved the day on many an occasion - plus it zips the files as well. I'm looking for the facility to MOVE files rather than synch them - that's my next question to Lewis. One last comment - if you're looking at ftp synch ajc can do that. There's another program by Fevosoft that does this - I'll be trialling this later. I hope I've answered your question, Van.

adrian williams I've just bought this software. I've been trialling it for a few days now and the scheduled synch works fine. Lewis from Fevosoft resolved the minor glitch I found and I very pleased with the simplicity of use. It also has some nice features like filename case modification for the transferred files. The MOVE option I mentioned earlier is being looked at for a future release. If you're wanting to backup a folder or move files around, this software could make that task very easy, and in many cases - automatic. Highly recommended.

Rick Edwards I have this same question more or less - I have several computers and they all need this feature - but I never use more than one at a time. I'd be interested in a license that covered 'n' computers or 'n computers with the same account name' or something like that.

John H I am network illiterate

I use Dropbox because it keeps all three of my computers synchronized perfectly and it is IDIOT PROOF.

I do not need their cloud backup.
I only need to sync on my local network
I keep my main desktop on 24/7

Could you please explain how I can use your product to replace my Dropbox service. It appears that I would need to purchase at least two licenses.
Thanks
Apr 10 2012 at 5:10pm Copy Link
0
Lewis Tian You need one license for every computer which Beyond Sync installed.

But when you synchronize files with remote computer, you don't need license for this remote computer. For example, you have two PCs that synchronize files with a server computer. You'll need two licenses for the two PCs only. No license is needed for the server computer.

John H Lewis

Like myself, there are many people looking for a Dropbox replacement. Dropbox is successful because it does not require users to be technically literate. Many of us want out because our data is not encrypted on their servers.Others do not even want cloud storage. My peculiar need is that I am setting up a system on a large boat that does not always have internet access.

I do not mind paying for 2 or 3 licenses. But I do mind having to waste an afternoon trying to configure your software to my needs. Could you please write out an idiot proof procedure for using your software to replace Dropbox and not having to connect to the internet. If you put the procedure up in your FAQs, I guarantee you will have lots of hits by people looking to replace Dropbox.
Apr 11 2012 at 12:06pm Copy Link

Lewis Tian The current version of Beyond Sync doesn't synchronize files over internet. So, I'm afraid I can't say it's a replacement of Dropbox.

However, if you need to synchronize files with external drives or network shared folders in other computers, then Beyond Sync will be a good choice. You can view a tutorial, it's pretty easy:
http://beyondsync.com/faq/tutorial.php

I hope it helps.

Kenneth Bates I have a PC with 4 operating systems on it. Obviously, I can only use one system at a time but my data is also backed up to an external hard disk (NAS) to which each system has access. Clearly, this gets over the problem of using out of date data but if I load a program update in one system, I need to transfer that program update to the other systems. To do this, I copy the downloaded file(s) to a special directory on the external disk.

John H The trial version worked great for a half hour and then had trouble connecting through the network. (Two Win 7) computers.

I'm not expecting anything to connect from my Win 7 desktop to the Vista laptop.

This is where Dropbox cuts through Windows networking mess.

The idiot proof directions I was asking for were to make the whole system work through Windows networking and shared folders. A tutorial directing one through a standard interface to access a function is lame and close to useless.

Otherwise the Beyond Sync looks superior to all the open source solutions I tried. The Real Time Sync works great and is the main reason I am buying this.

Am purchasing 2 licenses with the expectation that customer support will tell me how to get my Vista laptop to talk to Beyond Sync.

1) Did you enter correct login info on "Task-Edit-General-Network info"? Please make sure you can pass the test.
2) Did you run Beyond Sync as a Windows service? If yes, which account the service is running under?

You can also email me at supportbeyondsync.com if you have any question.

peter schleifer To the developer:

As often is the case, BS (sic but no pun intended!) is only reviewd on CNET... two times. Cnet calls it "spectacular", and the user review there says he lost his money since he declares BS unusable, after his experience that (with both-ways real-time synch, I suppose) BS deleted 3,000 files on his current drive when his network drive was not available for some time (and then recopied those 3,000 files again to the former when the latter was reconnected), and without any notification to the user, let alone any notification BEFORE such deletions (recent post, from April 2013).

Now this is a frequent scenario with usb sticks, sometimes they are not connected when normally they are (but see below).

Could you please comment

- what had been the probable mistake of that reviewer that caused these deletions: wrong settings?

- if not but "behavior-as-was-to-be-expected-by-BS", did you introduce any new functionality that will prevent such unwanted, automatic, deletions, without even asking the user, "Do you really want to..." beforehand?

Now it seems to me that the real-life scenario would possibly be:

1) before/when starting your work, you might want TWO-way synch, since the usb stick possibly "comes" from another notebook you might have used before

2) but then, for real-time synching, i.e. when working on your current notebook or current pc, you would prefer ONE-way synch, i.e. FROM your current pc TO the usb stick (or external hdd or cloud or whatever).

Thus, part 1 should NOT be fully-automated, i.e. without asking the user, whilst part 2, in order to be "real-time" = "in the background", should indeed be automated, but only ONE-way.

Alternatively, any UPDATES of files (i.e. chages to files) could be automated, whilst file DELETIONS would only be made after asking the user if he permits the synching of the deletion.

Of course, this would bring up the question how file RENAMES are handled by BS.

And let's mention that anyway, this "real-time" synching, even one-way only, means that any corruption that will occur in the file you are working on, will be replicated to the "backup" file, since there is no further replication of the latter, in its previous state, to another, SAVE directory/support (or, alternatively, a rename of this backup file, instead of just overwriting it), to preserve this ancient state - so this task should be done at least here and then, by another program, or again by BS, by just copying updated files to another folder - since this, then, is not real-time, it means that by mischance, you will have overwritten, intermediate backup files you would have needed though, and that have not been replicated (in their needed, previous version), to a save place.

Please don't let me be misunderstood: I am in no way trying to denigrate a seemingly very kind 100 p.c. offer, and I am always thankful for such offers here in a way that indeed, I would consider buying for further needs, which will probably the case for other DataNumen products - they gave away two of them here these last days -, so I really appreciate such gestures.

But then, backup and synching software is "problematic", "dangerous" software in that sense that if it does not always and in any instance behave EXACTLY in the way you would expect (and this also means, in a SAVE way, even when you make a setting mistake or such, then at least warning you that you will get results you might not necessarily expect), it could make you lose data (in the above example, what about a drive no "not being connected", but having crashed, so that re-copying the 3,000 would NOT have been possible afterwards?), and then, TCO could be tremendously high, even if the software in itself was free.

Again, we are speaking of a FREE offer here, so my technical considerations might appear outreageous, but at the end of the day, people would like to have a serious synching and backup strategy, which really preserves their work, and so some explanation from the developer on how and to what extent BS would fulfill such a strategy, would be more than helpful.

And to finish, I would like to add that I bought GoodSynch - no relation to BS except that it's a competitor -, for its "monitoring changes like file/folder renames and moves", and I lost my money, since this monitoring of even duly connected devices is totally buggy, and that would have been the only "advantage" of GS over the competition; many synch programs do not live up to your expectations I'm afraid.

peter schleifer BeyondCompare, a (very good but manual-only) synching tool (once on offer here on bits, too), exists for many years now; BeyondSync seems to exist from 2006:

http://who.godaddy.com/wh...id=GoDaddy

I suppose if this software's place wasn't Beijing but somewhere in the States, BS would not be called as similar to the other tool anymore, since in some countries, there are laws against such things: It's a very similar tool, and it's a very similar name, where the very original part of that name has been duplicated, no less than that - and indeed, my first thought on seeing this product had been, oh, BC is coming to bits back again!

Robert User CAUTION:
I already have decent ftp sync programs, but I was willing to try this one out at the $14.98 price.

During the purchase step there is an option labeled:
"Receive both minor and major updates without paying upgrade fee again $9.50"
I have purchased other software programs with a guarantee of future updates for lifetime as well. The extra $9.50 raises the total to $24.48, which sounds good for a product and guarantee of future updates.

Paying for future updates now is a common offer, and often a fantastic deal, HOWEVER, there is no pre-notice that indicates that this $9.50 charge is "a recurring yearly charge" until after the purchase is made.

Very often I have not needed to upgrade a software program for several years, but in three years, I wil have paid the same as buying an entirely new license at the full price. Had I known the $9.50 was recurring annually, I would not have taken advantage of the extra charge. I would have purchased without the extra $9.50.

I have no way of knowing how the product progresses in three years.

What happened to the "without paying upgrade fee again" part?

Noggin The Nog Could this point by Robert please be clarified as a matter of urgency. I have purchsed before seeing the above warning, and I saw no notice either before or after the purchase that the $9.50 was a recurring charge. It was simply offer of minor and major upgrades in future wihout any further charge on payment of $9.50. I have however received an email describing the charge of $9.50 as being for a maintenance agreement. There is no mention of its being annual. So please confirm that the $9.50 is for lifetime updates. Otherwise, I wish to have a full refund - I can do without needless problems like this.
May 29 2016 at 2:26pm Copy Link

Robert User I will add that when the Order information page is displayed stating that the $9.50 is for a Maintenance Agreement there is a link below it labeled "Recurring Payment Terms." When the mouse pointer is moved over the link, a hover tip states:
First charge $9.50
then $9.50 every year

That goes against what is offered, and I cannot imagine the Association of Software Professionals endorsing this behavior. I hate to see what could have been a great opportunity for the developer and the users be ruined by this flaw.

Noggin The Nog Thank you Robert. I have sought confirmation from the sellers, but requested a full refund if it is as you say, which I do not doubt in light of what you have just said. Selling in that way is too sharp for my taste.

Lewis Tian Your license itself is lifetime, it always works for the version you purchased. Maintenance Agreement is a yearly subscription to allow you get every single update and high priority tech support at a low cost.

Robert User To Lewis Tian:

I do not know if you represent the developer but if you do, your response is not sufficient.

"Your license itself is lifetime, it always works for the version you purchased"
No question about that part.

"Maintenance Agreement is a yearly subscription to allow you get every single update and high priority tech support at a low cost."

First off, I do not consider $9.50 a year a low cost for a $29.95 product. In three years, I will have paid for a full license. I had rather stick with the regular software and the minor updates for that same period of time.

Second off, if the product operates as stated, I will not need any updates.

Regardless, the "checkbox line" is the important part of the order. It states "Receive both minor and major updates without paying upgrade fee again $9.50." THERE IS NO INDICATION THE $9.50 CHARGE IS ANNUAL UNTIL AFTER THE PURCHASE IS MADE!

Software developers often offer all future updates and upgrades for an additional one-time fee, no different than this checkbox line implies. If you are not willing to comply with the worded intent, then I CLAIM THIS ORDER PROCESS IS A SCAM! FIX IT!

Noggin The Nog I think, on the basis of what Robert has observed, the seller has undertaken to provide lifetime updates in return for the $9.50, and then repudiated its obligation after doing so. The repudiation must, I think, be ineffective to alter the seller's legal obligations. But since it is so often impractical to enforce legal obligations, the best thing is to draw your inferences and, unless you are confident that it all happened accidentally, to seek a full refund and steer clear. I would not have noticed that the $9.50 was for annual maintenance, except perhaps if I had read the purchase invoice carefully some time after the purchase. I only purchased the licence because I like to have a few products in this important area of functionality to be able to keep backup problems under review and continually to develop my backup systems. I am currently very pleased with Goodsync, and with Syncovery, which provides versioning and therefore protection against the situation where some glitch leads to corruption of the data files being cloned. And it also offers encryption and syncing via ftp. I notice that S User received no reply to his question about whether the program can copy locked files. Presumably it relies on the Volume Shadow Service (the VSS), but I will not be experimenting. Incidentally, Syncovery includes something called a VSS helper, and I have yet to discover exactly what that means. Some open file managers can interfere with the VSS, and that is something to be wary of - see: https://www.backupassist....shid=BA904 .

Lewis Tian For users who are confused about Maintenance Agreement. We just confirmed that there is an issue on Bluesnap (order processor). Normally there is an "Recurring Payment Terms" link under product name and you can see detail when you hover mouse on it. But it's not there indeed when coupon code applied.

Also, Bluesnap has problem to show Paypal option. In this case, please try another web browser and it may work.

Sorry for all the troubles.

I still do not know if you represent the seller, but regardless, I will ask as if you do.

Thanks for explaining "Normally there is an "Recurring Payment Terms" link under product name and you can see detail when you hover mouse on it. But it's not there indeed when coupon code applied."

However, there was no explanation as to what happens specifically for purchases already made. That should have been clarified here in this forum. Will the purchasers that paid the extra $9.50 "receive both minor and major updates without paying upgrade fee again $9.50" as stated during the ordering process or will the seller try to convert the $9.50 to an annual fee (which goes against the statement on the order form)?

If the $9.50 is a one-time charge and the user will receive all future updates, then I have no problem with the purchase; otherwise I want to have the $9.50 refunded as I still wish to try the product.

The company has the opportunity to redeem itself for the error here and now. Furthermore, In addition to a clear answer here, the seller should send an explanation to each of the purchasers that paid the extra $9.50, and state on this forum that step has been completed. I am awaiting your response before taking any further steps to rectify the issue.

Noggin The Nog A link that you have to hover over, so that you may not see the message that comes up when hovering, to discover that the future minor and major updates explicitly referred to are in fact only for a limited period is not sufficiently clear. It is no substitute for stating that the offer is future minor and major updates for 1 year, and you may wonder why that was not stated explicitly in the description of what the $9.50 was for. I have seen this type of situation before, and it is misleading and likely to result in the purchase occurring before the purchaser discovers that the updates are for only one year. So what the purchaser thought he was buying will never be provided, and he has to go to a lot of trouble to get his money back.

I have received notice that I will get a refund, but it is denominated in dollars, and seems likely to result in a less than complete refund in the currency in which I paid - $29.37 instead of £21.21. I have pointed this out but was merely told "We performed full refund. Maybe there is exchange lost, I’m not sure about it.".

Joe M I have been using this program for a few years and I am satisfied with its performance. It has a small learning curve. I use it to auto back-up of 2 directories with my files that I do not want to lose. I use an external hard drive for the backup. The files are not encrypted. They are just copies of your original files. I have used their tech support a few times and they always responded quickly. I highly recommend this software.

Jim Hilton Hi, this software looks pretty good, but it scares me at the same time.

In "Backup" mode, there appears to be 3 options:

1: Backup
2: Backup - Delete files from target if they don't exist on source.
3: Backup - Make target folder an exact copy of source.

So I am led to believe that if option 2 and 3 are not checked, the "target" folder will just accumulate "piles of files" no syncing persay.

But it's difficult to tell what the difference between options 2 and 3 are.

Lets say i want to sync my whole C drive to say X drive. But! A previous backup program has already populated the X drive. Which option should be used in this situation?

Thanks!

Daniel Mota How come on the BeyondSync website, when BUY the Pro version, it shows on BlueSnap commerce site for FevoSoft, it is on regular sale price of $19.95 and here it is regular price $49.95 and discounted $24.95 ??

The BeyondSync Enterprise goes for $189.

Something wrong with this sale listed here. Its more expensive even discounted than the regular sale price on the BeyondSync website.

Lewis Tian $19.95 is subscription plan that you can keep using the latest version as long as it's valid. $49.95 is perpetual license and you can use the version you purchased forever.

Lewis Tian option 2) removes files that don't exist in source folder. option 3) does the same, but it also overwrite files if they are differ to source so option 3) will make the target folder exact same as source.

William W. Geertsema I ordered 1 (ONE) copy of BeyondSync Pro, on this BitsDuJour website.
I received several emails, one with the license key for 1 copy.
It was only after I received these emails that I realized I had been charged (and had paid, via PayPal) the FULL price (about 50 US Dollars) instead of the half price.
Because (change of providers, system messed up) I can still receive emails, but cannot send them, I hope to reach Sales or Support by placing this comment.
The email from Liuxz Software states that the order number is 94010311 (July 2, 2019). I paid $ 49.95.
Because restitution of half of that price might be difficult, and because I may need a second copy of the program on another machine, the easiest solution would be that I receive a second license key.
Will Sales or Support please take care of that?

Robert User @Lewis Tain:

Mustang asks "What is the upgrade fee after the 1 year of updates has expired?" and the response from Lewis Tian is "It's 30% off normally" however, I do not see any reference to having 1 year of updates. Instead, the Fine Print states "Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for minor versions only." Why did you not take the advantage to point out that the updates are for minor versions, not 1 year.

Though not stated, I presume the version offered here is 7.2 per the developer's website.

The last time the software was offered here on BitsduJour was on 2016-05-29/30 and the version was 6.0, which also was allowed updates for minor versions only. Purchasing software at a minor number with a zero (the 0 in 6.0) seems like it should be a while before the next major version, but the developer's website page of changes (https://www.beyondsync.com/changes.html) shows that there was only a 6.1 and a 6.2 version before the software jumped to a version 7 level, and all this took place within 7 months. Those purchasers got the short end of the deal; I know because I was one of those purchasers.

When do you expect version 8.x to be released? I imagine it must just around the corner.

The only Beyond-Sync version to ever make it past X.4 level was for version 3 when it reached 3.98 back in 2009. Jumping to the next major version is a ploy to ensure users will not be able to get a lot of updates, and the developer can charge for the new version. Those tactics can start to tarnish the developer's reputation. Do you see my point?

This offer does not offer the paid updates and upgrades as the previous offer had, which was a debacle as it was hidden, and implied that the user would pay one time, but after purchase, it was revealed that it was an annual fee. I had to request a refund, and it looks like that was a good decision, because as I explained in the Older Comments, in three years, I would be paying more than the price of the full license. That was due to the previous offer having a full price of $29.95, but now that it is $49.95, I see how you got around all that.

In conclusion, before I ever had a chance to install my purchased version 6, version 6.1 was released with bug fixes (same for 6.2). Is there a hidden page where I can at least download version 6.2?
