Henri User This issue is likely related to the Recording Device setting in Cinch.

The key difference: Windows Sound Recorder captures from your microphone/line-in, while Cinch captures from your playback device's audio output (what you hear through speakers/headphones).

To fix this, please check the following:

Open Cinch Settings ( ? Settings)
Look for "Recording Device":
Set it to "Auto (Default)" to follow your Windows default playback device
Or select the specific device where your music is playing (e.g., "Speakers (Realtek)")
Make sure music is playing through the same device Cinch is recording from:
Right-click the speaker icon in Windows taskbar ? Sound Settings
Confirm your music app is outputting to the same device Cinch is monitoring
Test: Start Cinch recording, then play music. You should see the audio level indicator moving if Cinch is capturing audio correctly.
Pro Tip: If you have multiple audio devices (built-in speakers, USB DAC, Bluetooth), make sure Cinch's Recording Device matches where your music is actually playing.

If you still experience issues after these steps, please let me know:

What audio device you selected in Cinch?
What music player/source are you using?

Henri User Thank you for clarifying! I see where the confusion is coming from.

Cinch Audio Recorder is NOT a microphone recorder. It's designed specifically to capture internal system audio — the music/audio playing through your computer (like stream music).

How Cinch works:

It uses "loopback" recording to capture what comes OUT of your speakers/headphones
The "Recording Device" setting in Cinch refers to which playback device (speakers, headphones, DAC) to capture audio FROM — not microphone input
If you want to record from a microphone:

Windows Sound Recorder ? (what you already tried)
Audacity (free, full-featured) ?
Other dedicated microphone recording software ?
Cinch is best for:

Recording streaming music
Capturing internet radio broadcasts
Recording any audio playing on your PC with automatic song identification
I hope this clears things up! If you'd like to record streaming music from your computer, Cinch is the perfect tool. Just make sure audio is playing through your speakers/headphones, not through a microphone.
