eb235 The "final cut" on Corbett Email Backup & Restore Wizard

Corbett User said " no need to backup complete mailbox. Simply select required folder and backup". That may be true, but no with the trial version !

I started the backup with only one folder selected. I did notice the program touched a number of other folders. When I stopped the process, I was told "Demo Edition Export only 10 items from Each Folder. Please Upgrade to Licensed Edition to Export All."
It would have been much more clever :
- to tell that to the user **before** starting the backup
- to mention that somewhere in the BDJ offer or the official Web site.

In effect, partial backup is a feature I can't test without laying down some cash (not a negligible amount).

What's more some errors in the log are strange :
- sometimes the INBOX can't be loaded (too many messages ?)
- three "Folder Loading Failed" errors happened on empty folders (is it really an error ?). On the TRASH folder a server error was mentioned ("The server has responded with negative reply. The server responded: MBN00000117 NO No matching messages (0.010 sec).")
- on closer inspection, folder names starting with _ seem to cause some problems (it is usual to use this character to have folders in the order you want)
- last there was a cast error (from type 'OutlookReader.Models.BaseModel' to type 'OutlookReader.Models.Message') on OUTBOX

It is probably difficult to encompass all the subtleties on all mail servers but this means this software has some quirks unfortunately.

Corbett User @wts: There are differences in software programs. The programs you have mentioned support limited mailboxes and are not heavy duty programs.

Eric Dear Sirs,

The questions below were asked a couple of days ago and remained without answer ... could you please address them now?

1. Can the software cope with POP too, or is it limited to IMAP?

2. After an initial full backup, can it perform incremental \ differential backups (or does it always assume that everything is to be backed up)?

3. If the answer to the previous is positive, can a restore be performed from combined (initial + incremental \ differentials) backups?

4. Under the same assumption: can initial + incremental \ differentials be consolidated offline (for possible faster restore, if need be)?

5. Conversion: can it be performed only at backup time, or can the backup's output be converted as well?

Thanks in advance for a prompt & enlightening reply,

Sincerely,

Eric

Corbett User @Eric, please see the answers below:

1. Can the software cope with POP too, or is it limited to IMAP?

Current version of the program supports IMAP accounts only.

2. After an initial full backup, can it perform incremental \ differential backups (or does it always assume that everything is to be backed up)?

After the initial backup, users can use advanced search button (magnifying glass icon on top right corner) to search emails within a date range and backup the search result. Currently scheduled/automated back up option is not available with the program.

3. If the answer to the previous is positive, can a restore be performed from combined (initial + incremental \ differentials) backups?

Yes, you can browse all the backed up files and restore.

4. Under the same assumption: can initial + incremental \ differentials be consolidated offline (for possible faster restore, if need be)?

If you are dealing with offline files and there is no IMAP accounts involved, the program will work offline.

5. Conversion: can it be performed only at backup time, or can the backup's output be converted as well?

Users can convert/backup/migrate all possible combinations provided with the program. There are no such restrictions.

Hope this helps! Kindly post further queries.

Eric Dear Sirs,

Thanks for -- finally -- getting back.

To the point:

1. IMAP\POP: Are there plans to support POP accounts too? If so, by when?

2. Incremental \ Differential backups: manually selecting the cut points for each backup session has always the risk of double backing up some entries or missing others.
Even if auto scheduling is not available, the program should know where it left over and from where to start according to the User's request for an incremental \ differential backup. Any plans to implement this (after all, it's basic request for a backup program ...)?

3. Backups offline consolidation: guess my question was misunderstood.
Obviously, if i am working with the files offline than the program will work offline as well - this was not the question however.
The question is whether several backup files can be consolidated (offline, of course) into a single backup file, to provide -- eventually -- for faster restoration, should the need arise (not to have to run several restore jobs in order to complete the restoration sequence)?

Your further input will be much appreciated.

Sincerely,

Eric

David H (Seattle) Finally got the demo, let it chew on my overfull Gmail Inbox (265k+) and others, and it seems to do what it says, including the ability to stuff emails into multiple different formats of email archive files, but also extract them back out as needed to other files types or back to email accounts (not necessarily the same account), thus serving multiple purposes. Their website also has all sorts of use cases as instructions on how to backup, restore, and especially move email around. It's not necessarily the prettiest program, it took 30+ min to read all 265k+ emails, but so far it seems to be doing fine with that. It's kinda seeming like the best balance of what I need, with a 40% discount. I think it's time to buy this and give it a thorough 30-day workout, but I'm pretty sure it's a keeper :) Has to pass the Comcast test now...

Mustang I currently use MailStore Home, but I do like the file and client versatility of this program. MailStore does allow users to delete individual archived emails, a feature this program is missing. Is this something I overlooked, or an omission by design?
