What are people saying about DocxManager for Word

Charles Beauchamp Having purchased and used the Word Outliner precursor to this product that only operated on outdated versions of Word and not on the modern versions, I predict this product will be a great success. The author very likely has a product that will become an educational standard for publishing one's thoughts on line. When interfaced with programs like LPA Prolog, this program will become a standard for teaching pupils how to put one's thoughts on line and "intelligently use" those thoughts to one's (including family's) financial advantage for a lifetime. For my own field of primary care internal medicine, I believe this will revolutionize my ability to provide very high quality primary care to ALL my & my students' patients. Thank you for coming out with this updated product. I know you have been working on it for a long time. May you have the ultimate success of revolutionizing education worldwide AND bringing intelligent people together worldwide to work together to improve quality of life worldwide.

Ela S. Big question:

Used the WritingOutliner / WordOutliner Addin before it stopped working with Word 2013 64-bit.

This is a masterpiece of program for research, writing, collecting information, document management etc for authors, researchers, students etc within the MS Word program.

What is the difference to the DocxManager? Looks quite similar to Scrivener.

Just seen that the WritingOutliner is now working with MS Word 2013 64-bit and above offered for 49$ as well.

Still working with Word 2013 64-bit, which program would you recommend more: the Word Addin or the DocsxManager ???

Thanks for your information - and pls extend this deal :-)

Edwin Yip @Charles Beauchamp,
Thank you! Just a note - WritingOutliner now supports all the new 64bit/32bit Word 2019, 2016, 360 and so on.

While some of DocxManager's functionalities are overlapped with WritingOutliner's, they are different in some aspects. In short, DocxManager operates Word documents on the file level and mostly for document organizing, while WritingOutliner works inside Word mostly for authoring a single, lengthy writing project.

More importantly, DocxManager Standard edition (the one that you are seeing being promoting here currently) is aiming at becoming a document-focused website generator/builder like **Wordpress** for generating beautify web sites using templates and themes, while currently the supported themes and methods of upload is limited, more will come soon.

Ela S. @Edwin Yip,

Thanks for the clarification. So I definitively will buy the WrtingOutliner Addin first.

Any chance to get a deal here at BDJ (or for old customers using it since Word 2007)?

Really acknowledging all your efforts and support over the years.

Edwin Yip @Willam User,

DocxManager is compatible with all Word versions and editions including Word 365, 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010 and 2007.
Lower versions such as Word 2003 should also be supported, but it's not fully tested yet.

@Elas S,
It's not planned ATM.

Mark Lynam Very Happy to Mr. Yip still developing very useful software! I was early user of WritingOutliner, but haven't used it in over five years (was using it to organize my dissertation).

I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with DocxManager.

Congrats Edwin!

JW Hi Edwin!
Before I download the trial of this interesting program(!) might I enquire - not just for my own benefit but potentially for the benefit of many others - might this program work with other Word processors (which claim compatibility with MS Word) in the production of .docx documents?

I confess to being an Atlantis devotee (having deserted Word many years ago on the basis of cost!) although I do also frequent SoftMaker Office's TextMaker when I might need some feature in that software.

Colin McAllister Hi. I am a great believer in tagging.

a) Will DocxManager read (and use!) the already-existing keywords from within my very many Word docs, and
b) Where does DocxManager store its tags?

Thanks.

Edwin Yip @JW,
Unfortunately, DocxManager currently supports Microsoft Word only.

Edwin Yip @Colin,
a) Not yet, but that'll be an interesting feature to add in the future, as others have also suggested the same thing.

b) The tags (and other metadata) are stored in the file named "file.metad" which is located in the very same folder of your word documents. This design makes it possible to just copy the a project folder to another computer and the metadata will be carried along.

HJ User 1. I do not understand the claimed function that permits searching for words in a web document. That function is built into MS Word, together with the ability to replace, item by item or globally. Do you mean to say that your function permits searching across a group of Word documents? Is there also a replace function?

2. You seem to be offering two broad categories of capabilities. One is for management of Word docs on my computer and the other is using Word docs to build and manage a website. Is that correct?

3. Is there a pdf manual for this application?

4. If tags are added to a Word doc with this application, will those tags be present in a pdf to which the Word document may be created?

5. Is there a networking aspect to the program?

6. If a website is build using this program, must the hosting service have some special application to be able to fully host such a website?

7. Are webpages that are created with the program fully compatible with Wordpress?

Thank you,
HJB

Edwin Yip Hello HJ,
#1, No replace yet, and since the main user interface you see currently is changed from a previous version, the function to search across the documents (in a project) is not currently visible.

#2, yes.

#3, yes, here: https://docxmanager.com/d...arted.html

#4, no, the tags are for managing documents inside DocxManager.

#5, yes, for example, upgrade the generated website to a remote server through FTP or SFTP.

#6, no, just a standard web server is enough.

#7, the concept DocxManager works is similar to WordPress, but it as nothing to do with WordPress. You can see it as a desktop CMS, or a desktop version of WordPress, to help you understand the program.

Petr Unsolicited Recommendation from a long-time user -- I've used this software for many years. The most recent version is the best yet. Not only can your author long documents in a much, much easier way (compared to just using MS Word), you can organize your references, links and meta data... I'd say this is useful for ANYONE using Word. I use DocxManager and Scrivener for my long project documentation. Now with version 2, I'm using DocxManager exclusively. Recommended!

HJ User Is there a pdf manual for DocManager? Something more than the online "docs" page?

Edwin Yip @Petr,
Thanks for your comment! And DocxManager will be constant improved in the coming future ;)

@HJ,
Aside from the online documents, there is not a PDF manual of DocxManager yet, but one will be provided soon.

Nerino Petro What differentiates DoxManager from Scrivener? They both appear to provide outlining and corkboards so what does DocxManager offer to entice me to switch from Scrivener?

Edwin Yip @Nerino Petro,

Microsoft Word. DocxManager is built on top of the power of Word.

Pete User RECOMMENDED! Unsolicited Review / Comparison -- After actually using several document managers and editors to create books, reports, and even a searchable document based knowledge base, I found DOCXMANAGER to have a superior feature set. You can use industry standard Word documents and organize them in an outline, then print a finished book or transcript. A great tool for authoring long documents, archives, procedure documentation... all using Word's great formatting tools. The second best tool would be Scrivener, a dedicated editor for authors, but lacks the formatting capabilities of Word-based DocxManager.

MK Over the years, I must have bought every info outliner going. DocxManager wins out because it uses MS Word as the basis for its note taking. So you can have everything formatted in Word and also use any Word plug-ins you have (e.g. EndNote or PerfectIt). If you are doing a research report, for example, you can then simply cut & paste pre-formatted text, tables, etc., to your report.
And you can also search for keywords across the multiple Word docs that make up your DocxManager project.
And as it saves each Word doc separately in a Windows folder, if DocxManager should ever fail (and it's been quite stable recently), your Word file is still separately safe.
