Computer User Review: http://www.thewindowsclub...te-monitor STATES THAT SOFTWARE IS OK, but you may get this message: "By double clicking any of the drivers from the list, you may land on KC Software’s page where you will get a link to Google Search page. "

I WILL PASS. Thanks,

Serious Noize I don't like the way this program works. I mean, it tells you that you NEED certain drivers updated. Then you click to update them and it sends you to a page that has a link that says "Download Driver", after clicking that link all it does is a Google search for the driver.

So I ask anyone, How can this software tell you within reason that a specific driver needs to be updated, when it can't tell you where to find the so called updated driver?

It makes no sense to me.... What am I missing?

Robert Leftehand Downloaded and installed with hopes that the other comments were not typical of the behavior. Wish I had believed them better. The software is worthless for updating drivers. It tells me I have some outdated drivers, then takes me to a webpage to download them. The only 2 available links for downloading the drivers both take you to a custom Google search result. None of the search results have the drivers available.

Even the link they provide for the parent company that makes the driver can't even manage to get you to the company.

As a matter of fact, the only really useful links it provides are Googles recommendations for other driver update software, which is useful since this software was a waste of my time in trying to update my drivers.

James K I love free stuff, it's why I come here. But money is not the only cost of things, also time and trouble and headaches.

I'm NOT speaking to the quality of this program, because as far as I know, I've never use it. But people should think about the potential downsides of this type of software before using it.

Just for everyone's information. I've been building and installing computer systems professionally (and personally) since before Windows (around 35 years), and have only found getting the newest versions of drivers to be helpful if you are actually having trouble with your computer.

Almost every time I updated hardware drivers just for the heck of it, or because I could, I've regretted it. Including a couple of updates that bricked the computer.

Being among the first people to use ANY software, INCLUDING drivers, makes you an unpaid BETA-TESTER, so you get to be the first to find most of the problems with the code, so that others don't have them later on. Beta Testing is for the young, with nothing better to do.

And while updating this program or that program will generally only introduce problems within those specific programs, updated hardware drivers are basicly an update to your operating system, and every program that uses that piece of hardware may break if you introduce a buggy update.

Keeping yourself up-to-date drivers-wise is definitely a double edged sword, and for me, I still find the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" to be sage advice.

Besides, anything the brings code to be executed into your computer automatically, is by definition, a security weakness. (Including all those Windows Updates.) That's why when someone figures out how to take advantage of them, they are called "exploits". They exploit weaknesses in security.

That being said, [ James K ], when we call for tech support from any vendor, the first thing asked is

"... Have you updated to the latest drivers and patches? ..."

... because there's no value for them in troubleshooting something that's already been superseded.

I recommend ONLY updating to the PC-maker's latest drivers from their web site ( support.dell.com, support,hp.com, and so on ), no supplemental utilities like DUMo needed ... but ...
__________

... but, for any computer with non-maker accessories, and for systems with older operating systems where the PC-maker has long abandoned updates, we need to find updates from the board and chip makers themselves.

DUMo is not an automatic system cleaning and tweaking utility.

DUMo is a device-and-driver-and-update inventory tool, needing an attentive and conscientious operator to use it properly, such as only for inspecting to find possible problem causes and resolutions.

Who here can make an appropriate backup catalog of prior drivers, and knows how to return to them in proper coordinated procession if updating their PC bricks it and then it won't reboot itself?
__________

That being said, I have used IObit Driver Booster ( Pro = automatic, non-Pro requires the user to update each find singly, both end results are the same ), and I have run IObit Driver Booster on many computers where I have complete image backups as a safe Plan B, and, so, as a TEST, I let IObit Driver Booster update and replace ALL drivers and 'game' support ( Flash, Java, C++, et alia ) ALL at once, DOZENS of drivers at once, with ONLY ONE reboot at the FINAL end after all installations, and, unlike Slimware and other automated driver utilities I have tried ( and removed and rebuilt after ), the PCs updated en masse full-sweep by IObit Driver Booster have never failed.

Ever.

And IObit Driver Booster also has a neat utility for removing 'ghosts' from the System Hardware Devices ( and making an output log of the removed dead, no longer attached, flack items ) -- very cool and elegant and simplifying of future troubleshooting steps.

I have not tried DUMo in any automatic mode ( this offer is on hold until licensing gets fixed ).

I have used other tools by Kyle Katam at KCSoftwares and find them clever, savvy, and powerful, some I use daily ( KCleaner, for example ).
__________

However, updating drivers does not mean the initial problem went away, it only means drivers and updates were eliminated from the possible causes.

That said, this is NOT a pitch for IObit Driver Booster, as much as a pitch to use anything, including the EXCELLENT driver-and-resource inventory from DUMo ( don't know about any automatic update results yet ), as a TOOL in the hand of a PC-repair-and-reconstruction artist.

I would LOVE to recommend automatic tools for the non-tech self-servicer, but even the finest brushes and paints in the hands of a non-artist will not allow them to recreate the Mona Lisa ...

-- the skill is in the artist, not in their tools.

So, just be forewarned, folks, get your tools free here, but you supply the skill, always.

Adam Bridge What the heck is going on BDJ ? Lately there have been more and more problems with the software being offered here.

There are two versions of this software from this Company from what I can see from their website - the freeware version and the Pro. When I apply for the promotion I just get Dumo Lite which is the free version anyone can get from the website at anytime. So they are giving away a free product for free ? Big whoopie deal ! Maybe they should call the lite version Dumbo ?

Everyone who signed up for this was expecting to get the Pro version so why are we being offered the lite version and why is this also not being made clear in the heading ?

Shame BDJ Shame.

Ray User What gives ? I download the software after I get my key and notice the download is for the lite version not the Pro. So I download the Pro version directly from their website and it won't take my registration key ???

What's going on BDJ ?

Adam Bridge I notice my comment hasn't yet been posted and there is only 50 minutes left before the promotion expires. I find it hard to believe others haven't also posted - maybe BDJ is closed at the moment given the time differences.

I notice that the last time this software was offered there was also a problem with the registration which needed rectification by BDJ.

It clearly says in the information above that the normal price of this software is $15 which is the price of the Pro version so that means that this promotion should clearly have been for the Pro version.

I look forward to a BDJ or a Dumo representative providing me with a response as to how I can get the advertised Pro version.

John Gallagher So I totally bashed this product several hours before Don Worden, User1 & Joe Sch posted, and BDJ apparently reviewed and blocked my comments. If you load older comments, you'll see that this product was bashed for not working correctly over the last couple years. I'm appalled that BDJ would offer it again, even for free. The version I received today prompted me to purchase the "Pro" version directly from the vendor, which I did, and that does not work any differently from the free version. So I conclude this is scam-ware!

Constantin Florea On this page you will notice that there are two installers:
http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?download

These are the "regular" and "lite" installers. Please notice that the "lite" installer is the same as the "regular" installer except the "lite" installer does not contain any sponsor (this is specified in the page I mentioned above).

After you participate in the promotion you will receive a receipt email containing the registration information (a registration name and a registration code) which will turn the installed application into the Pro version. When registering please make sure to use the registration name provided in the receipt email (please do not use your own name as the registration name).

Adam Bridge Until the software can take a user directly to a driver download page there seems little actual difference or benefit between the free and paid versions of this software and it needs a lot more work to make it worth spending $ 15USD on.

Essentially what you get is a program that alerts you that your drivers MAY have been updated. I have checked many of the entries in the software telling me there is a newer driver only to find that Windows says there isn't and won't update the driver or else the program has misidentified hardware in my PC as something else.
Jun 8 2017 at 2:25am Copy Link

Mark Magill A disappointing program... it does point out what a newer version of your drivers might be available, but gives you no help in actually GETTING them, other than to drop you off at a generic search page listing a bunch of links to where you MIGHT find what you want.... Other driver updaters actually go out and GET the drive you need. For example, I needed the new IDT sound driver 6.10.6504.0 so I selected that line and clicked "Download" - that took me to a nice looking page with a "Download (the driver) blue button at the top. Clicking the button took me to what looked like the result of "Download (whatever) in Google" - no direct link to what I needed at all.

I had hoped for much better than this.
