Peter Hake What's the policy on upgrades for this software?

Karlis Blumentals Updates to the same major version are free. Upgrade to the next major version is free, if you have bought the previous version within 4 months before a new major version is released. After this period, you can upgrade at lower price (usually 25 - 50% off the full price).

Bob S I'm getting ready to redo our website. I'm planning to use Expression Engine (www.expressionengine.com).

I'm assuming the buttons can be easily imported into EE.

What about the menu? I'm a novice at programming, so would appreciate any comments you can provide on the ease with which the menus can be imported into a more general web development program such as EE.

Thank you.

Karlis Blumentals I have not had any experience with EE as there are hundreds of similar systems and it is impossible to follow them all.

As with any content management system, you would need to properly place HTML code and generated files within the system. There is no special feature for that, you must find out how your CMS (in your case EE) manages code and files and insert the code accordingly.

This might be more complex than inserting menu into a simple HTML page, but then again running EE content management is not exactly beginner level.

If you give us your menu project and access to the system, we may try to do this for you.

Richard S Looks very useful.

Two questions:
1. Does the program simply generate buttons? or full, interactive menus?
2. If menus, in what format is the menu rendered? HTML? .js?

Can you highlight differences/advantages relative to programs like Sothink DHTML Menu Creator?

Thanks.
Feb 10 2010 at 3:20pm Copy Link

Karlis Blumentals Yes, you can generate both simple buttons or full dropdown menus. Menus are generated in HTML + CSS + JS formats (output is HTML code + a set of image and js/css files).

Easy Button & Menu Maker features full WYSIWYG editor (you edit menus visually), the output is fast and lightweight and standards compliant.

Bob S Hi, I purchased when this was available on bits du jour in Aug. 2009.  Am I eligible to upgrade, and if so what is the cost to upgrade?  Or would it be better to purchase new ver. here?  Thank you.

Karlis Blumentals I think you will be better off with buying a new license during this promotion.

DrTeeth:
Our activation system is flexible, there will be no problems installing the software on multiple computers (reasonable number) and there will be no problem if you decide to change your computer(s). Even by license you are allowed to have it on two computers - PC and laptop (Personal) and three computers - PC and laptop and another PC (Professional).

Michael R. Clicking on a button/link on a webpage has often different behaviour: At some links the new page opens on the same tab as the page it was clicked on, some links open at a new tab, i.e. the former page is still there and even some do open a new browser window.

Can these different behaviours be defined with your software?

Ed Ward I like the features of EBMM, but have a basic question re: how one integrates into a standalone website design program. The program we use is Website Realizer (offered on Bits DuJour; outstanding program by the way)... WR has its own menu maker and it's easy to use, but doesn't have as many options as EBMM.

When one designs a menu using EBMM, how does one integrate into another program? Is this easy/difficult? Are there any "extra steps" required to make sure the two work together properly?

Also, pls confirm that Button Maker creates buttons that are .png.

Thanks.

Rick Stone Is there any ability to create round buttons?
Oct 8 2011 at 8:13pm Copy Link

Karlis Blumentals You can see the button templates in the trial version and you can basically use any template of your own if you do not find that in the app.

As for the Ed Ward questions:
PNG is supported, transition effects include various "Fade" and "Expand" styles. You should try trial version to see them in action. Double row menus are not supported (sub-menu can only be list) and for integration you use means of inserting HTML and CSS code and image files into your website, so there is no automatic integration with WYSIWYG CMS systems.

Jo Ann Rice Will this program be getting updated to work with better CSS code and use HTML5/CSS3? Right now the code it spits out isn't exactly very well scripted (not horrible, but not totally as it should be), and doesn't have CSS3 capabilities. Will this be coming anytime soon and if so will this license include the upgrade to it?

Overtkill So are the authors of this software completely MIA?

I have questions about the pro version (and others have yet to be answered with half the day already gone).

- Is the pro version offered in this deal?

- Will the pro version allow me to use my own background images for the menu?

Thanks.
Sep 20 2012 at 12:43pm Copy Link
0
Karlis Blumentals I apologize for late replies, but I could not reply sooner.

Overtkill,

Both versions are offered - when you click on Buy Now, you get two choices. In the image menu mode you can use whatever button images you like or choose from templates - there is a button Use My Own Button Images (in both versions). In the CSS mode, everything is generated in CSS, so no possibility to use your own background images in CSS mode (you can, however modify the generated code manually, if you really must).

Jo Ann Rice,

Code that the program generates is valid HTML5/CSS3, however you must note that for compatibility reasons it may use some CSS or HTML statements of older fashion (still valid) so that menus work also on old browsers. If you want only the most modern HTML5/CSS3 statements in your code, you will loose some backward compatibility. If you have any suggestions for improvement, please contact our support team, your suggestions are more than welcome.

Richard Andersen,

Not yet, but we will note your suggestion.

Peter B.,

Not sure what you are talking about, please contact our support team with more details.

Jo Ann Rice Hiya Karlis, thanks for the reply.

But.. the code your program is using is definitely not CSS3 as it's using images instead of the new features of CSS3. I understand about the backward compatibility, but the code isn't using all the features it could/should be of CSS3. Will this be updated in the near future?

Karlis Blumentals I guess you are referring to gradient colors. Yes, we are still generating gradient PNG images for that purpose since even the current version of IE9 (nor the still rather popular IE8) can not handle CSS gradients properly (the famous gradient + rounded corners bug). And gradients are important, so we cannot just make them work only on browsers that support CSS3.

Believe me, we spent days trying to solve this and find the best solution, but it is as it is - we need to wait while IE finally supports gradients. We would not want our customers to have their menus look bad on IE. And there is another thing, CSS3 gradient fills cause a lot of slowdowns and lags even in browsers that do support them. We want to wait while web browsers go a bit further and then make a change. So it is not like we just did what was easier or that we did not know about the features of CSS3. If we had to make software that works only with Google Chrome or FireFox, then we would have gone CSS3 flat out, but we can not just yet. The damn IE slows down the evolution, but it is still too popular to be ignored. CSS3 is cool and we are using plenty of CSS3 features, but we'd rather offer awesome end result to the end user than sacrifice user experience in favor of letter combination "CSS3".

But if you have any ideas or suggestions, do not hesitate to submit them, we actively follow the trends and try to make our products better. Of course - nothing beats manually written menu code, but we try to offer the next best thing and if you have ideas on how to make it better - drop us a line as we like to talk with experienced developers about our products.

Jo Ann Rice Hiya Karlis,

This menu on this site is done completely CSS3 no images and it shows just perfectly in IE9. Granted it will probably not look as good in 7 and 8, but it's fully compatible with IE9.

ron williams I already own the newer version and would like to say it is a great product. It's very easy to use and I think it is one of the better menu makers out there and they continue to improve it.

One thing I would like to see is the ability to construct mega menus that have multi columns under a heading.

Today's Easy Button & Menu Maker Pro discount promotion includes the following license types:

Ralph Bressler @Randy Martin I never thought about that. The best answer is to download the trial and see what it can do. My first reaction is that it would be easier to simply download an image and give it link properties. This program is more geared toward producing the code needed to implement buttons and menus on a website.

Constantin Florea Sorry for the confusion related to the price. It was because we set the wrong order for the Buy Now links in the promotion setup. This has been fixed now and the price shown above the Buy Now link at the top right is the one for the Pro version. When you click the Buy Now link you have the possibility to buy either the Pro or the Personal version.

Karlis Blumentals Jane, yes that is allowed per Pro license. There is no limit how many menus you can create for your customers. You can publish samples of your work on your website as well.

You are not allowed, however, to take the designs that came with the software, just generate menu code and distribute such menus online for free as your own.

Karlis Blumentals Offer applies to new license purchases only.

As for the WordPress, you must look at the WordPress documentation on customizing their system (it might not be easy as I believe WP has its own complex menu /templating system). EBMM basically generates a piece of HTML code and a bunch of files to go with it.
