Petr I use eM Client on one PC. Looking to buy it for another. I have good success with it for Gmail mail accounts. But, there is no POP3 support. This is not difficult to add, as it is a major standard for email clients.

#1. Will you be adding POP3 support to eM Client?

#2. I seem to get errors from Gmail, seems to be trying to sync with Gmail too often. I have it set to sync every 15 minutes but would like to have it sync every 5 minutes. Your comments and suggestions?

Chris Dennis Couple of questions:

1. How are the emails stored? Separate files or in an Outlook style database?

2. Is it possible to remove the "invite to emClient" button on the toolbar? Looks a bit downmarket in a work environment.

Thanks.

eM Client Inc. Metta: yes that is possible

Bertie: eM is full PIM manager with Calendars, Contacts and Tasks
Among many additions eM includes full IM client for any jabber server including Gtalk

Chris: we use our own database system which is basically a combination of both.

Yes you can remove it in Settings in a PRO version

Bertie Brummel @vendor:

1) Using TheBat! for more than a decade I've approx. 200 000 mails in 12 accounts with 900 folders. Additionally there are several "dead" mail accounts used when I had other ISPs.

I tried eM's import function and it worked quick and flawless, however, all accounts / subfolders were imported to the main folder I had to specify at the beginning of the import procedure.

Assuming I create new e-mail accounts in eM for all valid accounts, is it it possible to import only their mails from TheBat into the separate accounts?

2) My visual abilities are not the best. Is it possible to visually separate accounts in the left column by lines, colors or otherwise?

3) The trial installed to drive C:\ w/o asking. That's not welcome because I want to have the OS, programs and work results on different partitions.

How can I install to other partitions?

4) Does the calendar include a reminder / alarm function for tasks, birthdays etc? At the first glimpse I could not discover it.

Ted Stacy I recently acquired the Free version of eM Client for my new PC running Widows 8. I like it so far, because I couldn't use my POP RoadRunner with Win8. Steve Jordi I ahd emclient 4 and it imports automatically everything from Outlook, so no nightmare there.
Just be aware that emClient offers almost everything similar to Outlook but the Notes. If I recall, Notes are not part of emClient.

I switched to emClient because it is possible to reply to HTML messages and insert your answers between paragraphs, like any email client. outlook is not able to do this (problem is known as "vertical blue line of death", and is very upsetting).

DrF I've been using em Client for a couple years and love it. I switched from Outlook when it started acting up with a couple of my email accounts (put them in an offline mode, etc.), and haven't looked back. I also appreciate that if I want, I can upgrade MS Office without having to include Outlook at an extra cost.

As far as I know, there are two versions of em Client: free (which limits you to 2 mail accounts) and paid (with unlimited mail accounts). The $29.95 must have been a typo or residual from a very old BDJ sale.

Dillon: I use a couple file sync programs to back up my em Client settings and emails regularly. If I wanted, I could put these files on a flash drive (or in the cloud somewhere) and install them on other computers, so moving everything is relatively easy. The backup files are also quite a bit smaller than the .ost and .pst files that Outlook generates!

Sascha: em Client handles my gmail contacts infinitely better than Thunderbird (which I have also used as a backup). I have never had any real success in synchronizing the contacts using any TBird add-on, and that was a real deal-breaker for me. On the other hand, TBird is far better in handling email as conversations. em Client really doesn't do that. They keep saying that conversations will be included in subsequent updates, but it hasn't happened yet.

Overall, I can wholeheartedly recommend em Client. I've had some blips with a couple aol.com email addresses, but manually checking those accounts has always worked. I've had to contact support a couple times, and they have always been very responsive, so Renaud's experience may be an aberration.

Tom Colvin I paid full price for this software about a month and consider it one of the best software investments I've ever made. I have 4 email accounts that I track -- and it is so easy to jump from one to another.

But important are some of the subtle features. It is the easiest email program I've used to clean out the inbox jumk. As you highlight a number of messages, you can actually see each highlighted email without opening it, making it easy to zip through without fear of deleting something important. Also in the right sidebar, you will see past messages from the same sender. I'm using that facility to get rid from tons of past junk.

I do have one annoying prblem: I often get error message that I cannot download emails because I am "not connected to service." I found a simple solution. Go to ToolsAccountsDiagnose, click on the Dianose button, which reverifies the account. Then exit and re-enter the program, and everything is back up and running.

DrF Nelson:

Product support has been good, in my experience. They have replied within a day to my initial question, and have been extremely helpful in trying to diagnose and resolve issues.

There is not a specific 64bit version, but it runs fine on my Win7, 64bit system.

On my system, em Client uses about 100mb of RAM and only an occasional small amount of CPU time when sending/receiving. I have it set to check 12 email accounts every 15 minutes and have not encountered a problem with CPU usage.

I've not yet hit any limit in data storage. I probably have 12,000 emails, 400 contacts, and 4 years worth of appointments, and em Client keeps on running, and its searches are very fast.

Hope that helps!

Gr3gw Hi Everyone,

I'd just like all you out there stuck on Outlook with no alternative that meets your basic needs, THERE IS NOW AN ALTERNATIVE. EM Client offers about 80% of the functionality of Outlook 2003. Most users, desperate to desert Microsoft, will be able to compromise on the few functions that eM Client doesn't provide, hell, even later versions of Outlook, including 2013, don't have all the functionality of 2003.

I recently 'discovered' eM Client and made the switch. It's fast, has improved functionality, particularly in the area of multiple accounts, and a modern conceptual view of email management with an Outlook 2003 look and feel.

I can't emphasize enough how much this IS THE UPGRADE FOR OUTLOOK 2003. All users, except those with one or two email accounts, will need the paid for version. At 50% discount this is a steal. The Outlook 2003 features that I've noticed are missing:
* Can't customise toolbars or define buttons - but neither can Outlook 2013
* No access to Visual Basic

What it does have is:
* Rules that work
* Great multiple account integration
* Calendar system that looks good but I haven't been a user of calendars in the past. Integrates Google calendar.
* A familiar Outlook 2003 interface - not exactly the same but enough. (Some users may find this a turn off but I hate the modern Outlooks' interfaces.)
* Great support through the forum.

I really recommend this one. If anyone has questions about my personal experience with eM Client, leave them here and I'll answer what I can. I know I haven't used all features, nor do I intend to, but I'll share what I know.

James Evans 1. Will installation of EM Client automatically configure to be my default email program? I do not want that to happen as I want to use my old program until I become familiar with EM Client.
2. Can EM Client import calendars, contacts, tasks, and especially emails from Chaos software's "Intellect" email/PIM program which I believe is also referred to as an email client.
Oct 12 2013 at 3:10pm Copy Link
0
Gr3gw James,

My unofficial response.

I don't recall eM client automatically becoming the default email program. It's easy enough to change. My experience of moving my Outlook system to eM Client was that eM Client is very sensitive to users' needs. It doesn't jump in and take over; it consults the user.

I did a trial transfer to start with. Transfer everything but keep Outlook going while eM Client is checked out. I also changed the settings for POP servers so that emails were left on the server, leaving Outlook in control of deletions.

Contacts came across. I don't use tasks or calendars and so I'll leave that to others to comment on.

James Evans @ Gr3gw and answers to my own questions above.

1. At first startup an eM Client dialog box opens and allows a choice between using the program as default or not, so it does not automatically takeover from a previous email program. Nice.
2. eM Client does not automatically import from Chaos Intellect email program. It only gave a choice of Outlook, Thunderbird, or skip auto import. It did not recognise Intellect. There is a free program, Mail Store, which may help with the import. I will report more if Mail Store does the job.
3. Intellect is an excellent program but it does not support drag and drop of email folders. One must create a new folder, highlight emails, drag them and drop, then delete the old folder. Not convenient if you have a lot of folders or tweak the folders often as I do.

Roderick Nicolson Yes, but can it import rules from Outlook. I bought EM Client a short time back and despite calls for this (unless now) they haven't done it.
For that reason I was unable to use the version I bought.
Oct 13 2013 at 3:33pm Copy Link

Gr3gw Roderick,,

I can't remember if eM Client imports Outlook rules. I'd be surprised if it did. There's no Visual Basic in eM Client.

The reason I had no rules to import was because Outlook (2003) had 'lost' my rules without telling me again, something it was prone to do periodically and was one of the reasons I wanted to get away from Outlook, The rules system in eM Client looks like rules in Outlook and is easy to set up. Thanks to Microsoft I'd lost all my rules and I was having to refine them anyway.

I'm hoping the eM Client technical representative will come in soon and answer your question about importing rules.

Gr3gw Another bonus in eM Client is the embedded backup system. You can schedule your backups, saving the need to purchase an additional backup mechanism. Up until I found eM Client I had been planning to buy an Outlook backup program, one reason being the disappearing rules I mentioned in a previous post. But with the embedded backup mechanism, perhaps not quite as good as an Outlook third party solution, I could have bought eM Client at the special price.

In case you are wondering why I'm I'm so keen on advocating for eM Client, it is this: after years of wanting to get away from MS Outlook I think I have finally found a realistic replacement. As many of you will understand, my email system is very valuable to me and I want it to be in good hands with the functionality I have learned to appreciate (I pay tribute to Microsoft for all that is good in Outlook, it's just a pity they have not looked after it) and now that I have decided to move it to eM Client I want that company to succeed in order to protect my investment, not in money, but in time and effort cultivating my email system. A secondary reason is that I want to share the benefits that the product offers - an updated Office 2003 that is updated in the 2003 tradition.

Chris Roy Jackson Can eM Client import RULES from Outlook Express?
OR does anyone reading this know of any way to Export Rules from Outlook Express (technical or NOT; i.e. Copy from Registry ? [which KEYS])
Rules are very important... Especially when you have a few HUNDRED of them. I REALLY Don't want to have to re-Create all of them if I can Export (and/ or import) my existing Rules.
Since Microsoft removed the ability for Outlook Express to function in "Vista" (after I upgraded), I have suffered with WebMail rather than re-creating all of my rules.
eM Client looks like a great Client and I'm looking forward to trying it!

Gr3gw Hi Chris,

I'm not really in a position to comment on what rules can be imported. It looks like Thunderbird rules can be imported but no others - http://www.emclient.com/w...efault.htm. Hopefully a rep from eM Client will come into the forum and provide answers to these rules questions

Gr3gw Hi Denius, I can't see Exchange mentioned in the documentation but from memory, and I may be wrong or out of date, but doesn't Outlook maintain a local copy of your exchange folder? Is it OST file. Can't wait for the eM Client rep to answer this.

Neil Sherman I use it as well as outlook. In may ways I prefer eM Client, but it has had its frustrations (far fewer than outlook). At the time I started to use it it wouldn't sync contacts unless you pay extra for the now discontinued Sync2eM product, I never was able to get Sync2eM to function and I never really did understand exactly what it was supposed to do. I assume that's no longer the case and contact and sync is fully built in to eM Client? It works fine with exchange. The other minor irritations are in setting up email accounts - it insists on spending a long time trying to figure out settings automatically. I think (but am not sure) that a recent update fixed that and allowed manual settings without having to wait a long time while it failed at guessing. One email account I've been unable to get to work with eM Client is at OneBox.com because they use an encrypted password setting that eM Client doesn't seem to support (Outlook and Thunderbird didn't have a problem). My only other complaint with it is if you keep a local copy of email and subsequently discontinue an email account, there is no way to see the old emails without having eM client keep trying to get new mail and giving error messages. You can disable the account but then the emails become invisible.

All said, I strongly recommend eM Client! It's easier and more intuitive to use than Thunderbird and is my favorite alternate to Outlook, especially if you have multiple email accounts.

Roderick Nicolson I think you'll find the reps strangely elusive when it comes to Outlook rules. I've tried getting info from them about this before but with no luck. My guess is they can't do it and so are following the policy of 'Out of mind out of sight'. I've not come across anyone on the internet yet who can do anything with the .rwz file for Outlook's rules.
Would help though if they'd just come clean about it. Then we'd all know where we stood and could make comprehensive decisions about which direction to take.

eM Client Inc. Hi dear BitsDuJour visitors,

We are very happy to see such an interest in our product and I'll try to answer all your questions raised here:

- the lifetime upgrade is not discounted for this promotion but you can still buy it with a discounted Pro license

- rules cannot be imported into eM Client, it has to be created

- if by localization is meant languages you can switch your eM Client into, then you can use English, German, Spanish, French, Hungarian, Italian, Dutch, Czech, Norweigan, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Slovak, Swedish and Chinese

- exchange is going to be supported in next version, eM Client 6, which is going to be released in just few weeks and to which everybody who buys eM Client 5 now will get a free update

Thanks,

Will

Jeff H. I have been using eM Client for a little over a year. I only wish I knew about eM Client sooner than that. Everything about it is perfect, at least for my needs. I have used several other email clients and they can't touch this one. Here are the ones I used:
Outlook 2003 and 2010: Very good and is considered the standard, but overkill for everyday email. Even saving an email was a hassle.
Thunderbird: It's OK, but the interface is ancient-looking, and you always need some plug-in to use it efficiently.
Windows Live Mail: Actually I like this email client. If em Client didn't exist, I would probably use WLM. But em Client is a bit better.
Gmail: Well, it's Gmail. But it's a web based client, so it is difficult to compare. I'm just not comfortable with Gmail. I'm not comfortable with Google, but that's another story.

eM Client is intuitive, easy to set up accounts, you can save emails in standard .eml format, contacts access easily, the calendar is super-easy to use, and the calendar syncs with your Android phone.
I can go on, but I'm already boring myself. Just get eM Client. You won't regret it. (No, I don't work for eM Client nor BitsDuJour.)

Gr3gw Unlike Microsoft, eM Client is a small company and much more responsive to customers' requests. I'm gambling on influencing eM Client through requests and suggestions. I'm currently asking for improvements in rules and think I have a small chance of succeeding whereas dealing with MS is would be totally futile.

Good to see that an update will be coming along in a few weeks. For those of us who have been eMClient users for some time, how will that update be priced? Would it be better to buy another licence today and go with a free upgrade, or will the upgrade from an existing v5 licence be cheaper than that?

Also, in response to Neil Sherman's comment, every account has a checkbox allowing the user to include that account (or not) in automated pickup/sending of emails. Presumably all you would need to do would be to uncheck that box, and eMClient would not try to pick up from that deleted account.

Finally, for Jaroslav: I have a particular issue with contacts. We keep a number of contact lists, and some contacts are included on multiple lists. If a contact changes his/her address, we have to find every list that includes that contact and change his address manually on that list. Is it going to be possible to have a list effectively being a series of pointers to contact records, rather than a duplicated list of contact records? This would eliminate my problem...

If you want to make the purchase with the BDJ offer, just click "Buy Now" button, then select the check-box that offers free lifetime upgrades and which is situated below the field which allows you to select the quantity of licenses to purchase.

The upgrade from FREE to PRO will be discounted on USD 24.95 and the lifetime upgrades will cost you an additional USD 50.00 so it would be a Total of USD 75.95

I hope this helped.

Tom Colvin I've been using this program for about a year now and really like it. I like it so much, in fact, that I put up with some major irritations.

For some reason, the program every fifteen minutes or so calls for username/password verification for the various accounts I have in eM Client, which freezes everything until I delete this series of boxes. I also get an "error message," that I delete as well. And several times a day, I get a message that my account has a problem connecting to the server -- which I can fix by going through a built-in diagnostic routine, which always reports that my connections are all just fine. If I can put up with those inconveniences in order to use this as my major email client, it must be good.

I am guessing that these inconveniences may be due to some password changes that were forced upon my by Gmail months after setting up eM Client.

eM Client Inc. Hi,

straight to questions:

@ Chris - yes, that is possible, here is the link for a separate lifetime upgrade: https://sites.fastspring....meupgrades

@ Nigel - yes, that is possible to buy an upgrade on newer version, the cost is $19.95 and the link (where v5 is now but once the v6 is released there will be v6 instead) is: http://www.emclient.com/renew-license For the issue with contact list, please get in touch with our support (via eM Client cliclikng on Help - Get support) and they will be able to advice you if that is just a matter of setup or bug. Sorry about that.

@ Robert - if you want to buy them separately than please see the post for Chris, if you want to buy them with a license than when you click here on BDJ on the offer, it'll take you to a site where is a check box for this right bellow the number of licenses you wish to buy.

@ Chris Roy - we are not aware of our site being down nor any of our data shows that so the problem was very likely somewhere else than on our sites.

@ Tom - Please get in touch with our support (just click in eM Client on Help - Get support) and one of our support guys will help you with your issue. Sorry about any incovenience caused.

Chris Roy Jackson I'm not sure what the problem is... I can go to MANY other websites with NO Problem.

http://www.emclient.com/download (for the Trial download.

I even tried using your current IP ( http://130.185.180.243 ) without success.

I REALLY wanted to try it to see if it will meet my needs.
Any help? I'm not sure what to do next !

The entire error message follows:

502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server.

There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server.

Really like the program.

eM Client Inc. Hi, if I understand correctly what you intend to do, than you can save the contact by right-clicking not in the email list but in the actual email on the address of the sender.

It can work offline no problem. It just needs to connect with our system at least once a month or otherwise it will go into the offline mode, which is a situation which is very rare and happens only with a specific way of connecting your pc in local network.

_*_ Jaroslav Javornicky, thank you for the reply.
Presently to add a contact you have to left click on the sender next tot he "From" in the header of the email itself.

What I would like to suggest is to simply right-click on any email in the list to the left of the email itself. The list the displays all emails for all people.

This would be a lot faster. If the user could select multiple emails from the list and chose to add a group of people at once it would be even faster.

I also own The Bat Professional and it has a means to automatically add people to your contact list. Something like this would be nice as well.

Thanks again for your response.

1. How easy is this program, in regards to Syncing among 2 computers?
Just wondering if I got 2 licenses and run it on one of my 2 laptops, does the data get updated automatically on the 2nd laptop when I launch the software there?

2. Does online email remain accessible online?
Or does it download to my local PC?

3. Or do I always need to run/view my online email through this client program once it is loaded?

4. I useAid4Mail to do backups of my online email accounts.
How does this program compare to aid4mail, in regards to backing up emails and attachments of online email clients, like Gmail?

eM Client Inc. Hello Disenchanted,
Please find my answers below:

1) If you set your mail accounts with IMAP/Exchange protocols, all your emails will 2-way sync between your computers.

2) Not sure if you meant online or offline but you can set eM Client to download emails for offline use so these emails are accessible when you're offline.

3) IMAP and Exchange protocols keep your emails on the server by default. POP3 accounts can be set to do the same.

4) The Backup feature creates a copy of the whole database so all your data including settings are backed up.

Nadin Good afternoon. Thanks for the best email client. After testing various email clients, I realized that your product is the optimal solution. I purchased your product today and sent a letter to gain access to the license manager and technical support. There is no answer yet. And two more questions: Why, when activated today, 02/25/2020 (the key was also received today) in the license information, the program writes the license release date 02/03/2020? Tell me why it is not possible to update all folders of one mailbox at once, I need to click on each folder to see new letters. The command in the Get all menu does not give results, synchronization is in progress, but can I see new letters only when I open each folder, is there an update and I see new mail?

LU EMClient is a wonderful product that I have owned and used many times over the years.

However, I would like to recommend or inquire as to if there is a solution to the following problems.

1. Is there a way to place a master password on the program so it cannot be used by anyone who may have access to the PC it is installed on. If a PC is hacked, it would be nice to have an option to have a password to open the software to gain access to the emails. Most email clients do not have this feature but may set this software apart from the rest.

2. I like the "Search" capabilities, but would it make even more sense to add a "Search" Function onto the right click menu to search all folders and/or all emails as a quick shortcut.

These functions may exist, but I have not been able to activate them as of yet.

Thank you

Although you cannot change the installation folder directly in eM Client installer wizard you can get around it by using a custom MSI installer parameter. For further instructions please contact our support as indicated by my colleague in the post above.

As regards the data storage location, you can adjust it at any time via menu Tools - Settings - General - Storage.

What email address did you send your email to? I could not find any similar requests in our salesemclient.com mailbox. Could you send it once more please? We'll get back to you at the soonest.

The license key shows different issue date because we generated those licenses earlier this month when we started our preparations for this campaign.
And lastly, if you want to get all your subfolders synchronized automatically, you will have to enable Offline mode in your account settings (menu Tools - Accounts - tab IMAP - enable option Download messages for Offline use).
