Mustang Any discount on the Pro or Pro Plus?

Mustang Is there a link that shows which OCR engine is included with each version? Your website references both the ReadIris and OmniPage OCR engines in the Pro Plus version so would like some clarification.

Something that is good for installation on, [example] 2-4 PC's ?
Apr 17 2018 at 12:34pm Copy Link

Jeff User We typically offer multi-user discounts on our regular pricing, but it won't be as good as this half-price promotion. So your better deal is to buy as many licenses as you need at half off.

Wade Townsend Thank you so much for bringing this promotion to BDJ!! We have waited a long time for this as we have been inquiring and suggesting since 2011 - well worth the wait for such an excellent program... Now I can finally get my documents moved from the very much outdated Nuance PaperPort Pro that has not been updated since 2013.

Please tell me, which version works best and is most compatible with the NEAT Desktop Scanner and Desktop Software since they have discontinued their desktop software as I will not use their Cloud subscription?

In addition will file Center be able to read my NEAT Desktop software database file?
Apr 17 2018 at 11:17pm Copy Link
0
Peter Gabriel I agree with Wade, this is the software I've been waiting for. Thank you BDJ and Lucion!
Apr 18 2018 at 5:02am Copy Link
0
Jeff User To scan with FileCenter, your scanner needs to have a TWAIN driver. This is the same for all editions of FileCenter. That said, the TWAIN driver implementation (which the scanner maker controls) for the NEAT Desktop Scanner is not the best, but most of our users can still get it to work with FileCenter. Also, FileCenter works with and displays native file formats (like Windows Explorer). So you'll need to export your files out of the NEAT Desktop Software if they are being stored in NEAT's proprietary database format.
FileCenter - Apr 18 2018 at 5:37am Copy Link

Jeff User FileCenter itself is only in English. But since it sits on top of your Windows file system and displays files like Windows Explorer, all file names will be retained in what ever language. FileCenter also integrates with Windows Search, but it must be turned on and setup to index the applicable data.

Angel In case I purchase, what happens if I don't pay for the annual maintenance fee ($19.95 for std) the following year?
Apr 19 2018 at 4:04pm Copy Link
1
Jeff User Remember, one year of maintenance comes with your initial purchase. After that it is optional, your choice. Your product will continue to work either way. Staying on maintenance is highly recommended since it gives you free support and product updates after the first year. What’s more is that in the crazy computer environment of today more things than you realize get affected by the constant Windows updates that come out, especially software like FileCenter that sits on top of the Windows file system. Being on the latest build of FileCenter ensures that it will perform as it should. Again, the product will continue to work either way. You just won't have access to the latest build or support if you don't stay on maintenance.

Harald Vogel Hi, I also have a question on maintenance: After one year do I have to pay once a year to keep it or could I go back on it any time?

Or do you also have an upgrade price if I'm not on maintanace and want to upgrade to the lastest version?

Problem is I'm a private user and would go for Pro with this promotion here but the yearly costs for it are not affortable for me.

Thanks.
Apr 20 2018 at 4:43am Copy Link
0
Jeff User If you ever go off of maintenance, then you'd have to pay an upgrade fee for newer builds of the software. The upgrade fee is double the maintenance fee.

Jorge Watanabe Hi, I have an old version (8). Can I have a discount in upgrade to 10?
Apr 20 2018 at 5:29am Copy Link

Jeff User This half off promotion will be your best deal.
FileCenter - Apr 20 2018 at 6:05am Copy Link

Harald Vogel Thanks. That would mean upgrading would cost more than todays promotion.

I watched some (older) Videos from your library and it seems you use Trackers PDF-Xchange Editor. It's my prefered Editor also and I have a Plus license.

Has the current Filecenter the latest PDF-Xchange Editor intergrated and could I somehow use or integrate my PDFxE-Plus Version in Filecenter Standard as most features of Filecenter Pro I'm interested in come from Trackers Editor?

Craig S. If I already own a copy of ReadIris, will the Basic and/or Pro versions take advantage of it? Thanks.
Apr 20 2018 at 7:34am Copy Link

Wade Townsend @Jeff User: So just purchased and installed the standard version of File Center as I am just a single user.

In an earlier inquiry I asked about how to get my NEAT database files converted over to File Center. In your response you stated to Export the files so does this mean they have to be exported individually or is there a way to export them in bulk by say the folders they were saved in?

Also can I drag and drop my old PaperPort files directly into File Center that are in the My Documents folder or will I need to build a file structure 1st?

Many thanks.
Apr 20 2018 at 12:53pm Copy Link
0
Jeff User Your export options are going to depend on the NEAT software where your files and data currently reside. So I'd check that software to find your options. FileCenter needs the data to reside in a normal Windows folder. For further questions as a registered user, you should send an email to supportlucion.com.

Joe M I have been using the File Center Pro 10 for about a year and a half. This is a great replacement for the unsupported PaperPort that has not been updated in the last few years and will never be updated in the future.

Today, I purchased the FileCenter 10 Standard for my laptop. I do not need the advanced feature that the Pro Plus version has. If I need these features I will use my main desktop computer that has the Pro version. I find that the basic has what I need. I will mainly use it for file viewing. I find that it will view PDF, TXT, JPG, and WordPerfect files.

Lucion keeps the program updated and has excellent tech support. Today's deal is a great deal on this software.

Techtoysavvy I just purchased the Pro version.
I have the Fujitsu ScanSnap which includes its own OCR

Does the Pro version include automated scanning with separators?

It looked to me like the main improvement and higher cost in Pro Plus was related to licensing Readiris OCR and I have ABBYY and other OCR engines already and I have no idea if Readiris is an improvement.

For me recognizing specialized formats like receipts and bank statements is important in addition to competent OCR.

I need to find a replacement for my Neat system as their future is uncertain and their software is lacking.

Jeff User FileCenter does have a special integration with ScanSnap scanners. See the User Guide. Yes, the Pro version includes separators.

Sep 4 2018 at 3:54am Copy Link

Benjamin User Sven, it seems that you can still use it but you will have to renew your license if you want assistance and future updates.
Sep 4 2018 at 5:12am Copy Link
0
Jeff User Your license to FileCenter will never expire, but if you want to continue to get support and the latest updates and bug fixes after the first year, we give you an option to renew maintenance (it's not mandatory). First year maintenance is included in the initial purchase price.

John Beaumont Used PaperPort for the longest time but it stopped working and their support was terrible (actually wanted to charge me $19.95 to talk to someone). Looked at FileCenter, ran the demo for a while and loved it. It is a stable product and I've had no problems with it. Best money I ever spent. I paid full price so if you need this type of program this is a real deal.

HJ B I sent this message yesterday, and I received a confirmation of its posting, but I do not see it here and there has not been a response.

I was about to purchase the pro version, because of the network capability. Then I went to the fine print and saw that the program is licensed to one person and one computer. I have no problem with the one person; however, I have several networked computers and a portable. How does the networked version relate to the one computer limitation?

HJB”
Sep 17 2018 at 11:52am Copy Link
0
Jeff User When we say "network" it means FIleCenter can be mapped to network drives. You'll still just install it on one local computer. You're fine.
FileCenter - Sep 17 2018 at 12:11pm Copy Link
0
HJ B Does that mean that if I, as an individual, want to use the network version, on all three computers, it wold cost me three times the network fee?
Sep 17 2018 at 12:49pm Copy Link
0
Jeff User There is no "network version". You install FileCenter on a computer (in your case your local computer). You then can access data that is on both local and network computers through the FileCenter cabinet mappings. You don't need to install FileCenter on the "network" computer. You just a access that data from your local install of FileCenter. If you want all three computer to run FileCenter, then yes, you need a license for all three. But it sounds like you just want to access data from your network on just the one local machine, and you can do that with one license.

Dave Johnson File Center is so awesome and I dunno how I managed before without it. It's actually impressive on how many features the developer(s) have thought of. One annoying bug is though, that when files are moved from some types of cloud drives like OneDrive, attempting to preview them after the move provides an error. This is rectified by resaving the file within its new location under the same name. But when many files are moved, that is quite a chore.

May 7 2019 at 7:48am Copy Link
1
Techtoysavvy @Michael R.
Nice try at haggling but are we talking $50 vs ~$40?
The whole point of these discount deals is to capture the annual maintenance stream on a perpetual license.

You can "upgrade" simply by being on annual maintenance which is $50/yr
I work in the software business and we maintain a strict policy on not discounting maintenance. Of course each business has its own rules.

Emm User Hi there!

Question #1:
The Fineprint says:

- licensed per User
- one computer

I am using two computers in parallel: desktop machine and laptop computer side-by-side in the home office and just grab the laptop when on the road/at customers.

Can I have FileCenter running on both of them without frequently switching licenses back and forth?

Question #2:
I already own PDF X-Change Editor V8 - can it team up with the standard version or will integration be only provided with the Pro Edition?

(BTW: is it PDF X-Change Editor *Plus* ? Website says that you are able to create forms, which is a feature of the Plus Edition only...)

Best Regards from Germany,
Markus
May 8 2019 at 1:10am Copy Link
0
Jeff User We have to stick with those license terms because we pay royalties on those terms as well. We typically discount a second license in your case, but the half off special here is already deeply discounted.

FileCenter 10 is still using PDF X-Change V6, but the new FileCenter 11 will user V8.

As to OCR, FileCenter 10 does not provide a German dictionary, but FileCenter 11 will.

FileCenter 11 will be out later this summer and any FileCenter 10 purchase at this time will receive a free upgrade.

Alexandre Emeriau Hi,

All the presentation and navigation and a lot of features rely on the existing file system, folders & files, as a result it looks like a lot like a windows explorer adapted / oriented towards document management work on which pdf and ocr features have been added.

For that reason, it looks like expensive.
There is a reason that could justify that : lifetime licence.

Is it a lifetime licence ?
I'm talking about the life of a human of course, not software as software never dies, ie the human can upgrade freely to all releases until he dies?

Joe M I have the File Center 10 Pro + on my desktop and the Standard on my laptop. The Pro has more features to edit the files that can’t be done on the Standard. The Pro + also has OCR that is not in the Standard. I bought the 10 Pro + to add to my laptop to get all of the features in the Pro +. I did find that the Standard version is a great file viewer. It not only will view PDF, but txt, JPG and even WordPerfect files. If you want to edit the PDF files then the Pro + would be the better buy. If all you need is a program for viewing files, then the Standard is a good buy.

styrobrain @Lucion, do I understand correctly that File Center's PDF editor is the one from Tracker Software (PDF-XChange)? If so, will File Center be affected by Tracker Software's decision to retire their SDK (see https://www.tracker-softw...s/view/207) in -- based on precedence -- about 18 months? If so, what can you tell at this point about your product strategy in response?
