TESS273 http://malwaretips.com/th...all.47908/

According to this thread, Glasswire is HIDS using Windows Internal Firewall. Is this true?

GW Guy Danny,

GlassWire is unique because of its network visualization features. If you see a major spike in network activity you can click the graph and see in detail what your computer was doing over the network.

Tess273,

Go to the GlassWire menu then "Settings" then choose "Security" to see the things we detect like ARP spoofing, suspicious hosts, and much more.

GW Guy Peter,

We tried to have a feature comparison that included the free version but our order page was too wide and looked weird on some browsers so we removed it. You can see our specific paid features on our order page here https://www.glasswire.com/buy/. Hopefully we can find a way to show a free feature comparison again in the future. Thanks!

Sputnik @ GW Guy

The answer you gave to "Roberto" is very ambiguous.

Your answer seems to be concerning the version number of the software : you seem to say that it is the same version number as the one which is available on your website.

If this was the meaning of your answer, this is not an answer to the question that Roberto asked...

Roberto asked if the software for which someone would pay here, on BitsDuJour, will be a one time payment for all the future updates and upgrades of the software, which means a "Lifetime License" ?

If the license we may presently buy here, on BitsDuJour, is a "Lifetime License", why do we read this under "THE FINE PRINT" tab : "Upgrades to future versions of the software will require additional payment. Installing a new version may overwrite the existing version and invalidate your license key." ?

Could you be a little bit clearer on this matter, please ?

Is the license that someone would buy here, on BitsDuJour, a "Lifetime License" with all the future updates and upgrades free, YES or NO ?

If your answer is "YES", could you please ask BItsDuJour to change the text we see on THE FINE PRINT tab, so to reflect the exact status of this sale ?

Thank you.

Jim Ganw Is the Glasswire strong enough to detect/report/stop Win10's telemetry and private data collection?
Aug 25 2015 at 3:18am Copy Link
0
GW Guy Jim,

We are still investigating Windows 10 data collection and what parts of Windows should be blocked to block it, and if it's safe to do so or if you lose security updates, etc... so at this time it's unclear.

Sputnik @ GW Guy

So, the answer you gave to Roberto was incorrect, because there is a discrepancy between the license bought here, on BitsDuJour, and the license bought on your site.

The license bought here allows you to use forever the specific version you have bought, but you will have to pay for any update or upgrade, and if you try to update your software it will invalidate the license.

The license you buy at full price on your site, for its part, is a "Lifetime License" with free updates and upgrades forever.

Could you confirm that I am right on these two last affirmations, please ?

GW Guy Sputnik,

No, the license is identical both places. GlassWire is one year old and we have no plans to charge for upgrades but we have not ruled it out, and we don't use the language "lifetime" anywhere that I know of.

singularity Even with this deal on this is very costly for a HIDS/Windows Firewall monitoring and management tool. It is not a 3rd party firewall, is it?

In my opinion WFC or Windows Firewall Control ( http://www.binisoft.org/wfc.php ) does everything that Glasswire do minus the cool UI and looks. It monitors and show prompts to allow applications to connect to net or not.. thus enabling us to create custom windows firewall rules. What functional advantages can Glasswire argue against WFC? And it is just 10$ (donation) for a lifetime license and is well maintained and updated with backing of 1000s of members at WildersSecurity Forums,

GW Guy Dtouch,

Binisoft looks like great software! It seems to do some of the things we do under our "Firewall" tab but GlassWire does much more more https://www.glasswire.com/features/ by monitoring the network in detail and allowing you to go back in time and view your network activity plus the other huge list of features listed on that page. However we're glad for you to use our free software and you don't have to buy anything from us if you want. Our free software never expires and is free to use forever, it just has less features.

Len User Will this firewall (Glasswire) conflict with my current internet security firewall software.
Aug 25 2015 at 6:02am Copy Link
0
GW Guy Len User,

No, not unless the firewall you uses disables the Windows firewall. In that case you can use GlassWire as a network security monitor instead and ignore its firewall features.

Sputnik @ GW Guy

Sorry GW Guy, keep your software because you are very not clear with your license's politics.

On your website, your buying page, under the three different versions it is clearly written : "One time fee".

"One time fee" is "One time fee" and that means that you will not have to pay again to get any future update or upgrade, and that is what is usually callen a "Lifetime License".

I really don't know if it is because you don't know how to communicate clearly or if it is because you want to mislead your customers, but I don't want to be involved in some future bust-up with you about a question of licensing...

singularity I never told I am not going to buy. As you can see I am a very active user here and purchased a handsome share of apps here. But I would dissect an app before I am convinced. :)
Does it trace remote home apps are trying to call?

What about system resources Glasswire will use? Is it heavy with that UI? As a security tool it is always preferred to be light on the system with it running always.

Lito I was looking through the site and read the license and faq:
What is written in the fine print is accurate. The purchase page on the website does seem to imply a lifetime license with the "one time fee" listed on the buy page, but it is not lifetime as the actual EULA explicitly states: "The licensor of GlassWire has the right to charge any fees for access to GlassWire software or any GlassWire web services." So if I am understanding the comments GW Guy has said, they have no immediate plans to charge for upgrades. It is very uncommon that a business can continue to update the software for free for life so you should expect that it will happen eventually.

@GW Guy: you might want to remove that "one time fee" wording on the buy page, that implies a lifetime license and it might lead you to trouble when you start requiring upgrade fees.

The one thing I am disliking about this program is the Basic, Pro and Elite versions. I really think you should not distinguish the software in this manner because honestly the Elite version is just too expensive for me, and is the version I would want to buy for the features like the unlimited history and remote connections (though 1 year history and 10 connections is probably all I need), but I only need one license. I would have most likely made a purchase of a single elite or pro license today if I could have purchased it for the $24.50 single license price, but at $45 or $99.50 I am passing on the deal simply because I don't need that many licenses.

Roberto I dont understand the mix of features and number of licenses neither. Same feeling as Lito. A single site elite license would be great.

GW Guy Dtouch,

Yes GlassWire alerts you when any app phones home. That's one of our most popular features. You can see the host it is phoning home to and you can see the exact time it happened by going back in time with our graph. Feel free to try our free software and test it out to see what I mean. Thanks.

BDrJ Hi

Sputnik is right -- not clear at all :\

By the way, your prices "PRO & Elite" are too high ...You are too young, 1 year!

See the deal with Outpost Pro (my favorite) or with Comodo fw freeware
Come on ... guys! pfff
Not a good strategy IMO ... Too bad for me because I like fw technology -- but too expansive, really.

But Thanks to Constantin F...

GW Guy Hello Everyone,

I think there is some confusion about what GlassWire does. We're not just a simple firewall. Feel free to try out our free software to learn more about our software and understand how we're different.

Below is a description that appears in our PAD file that might help explain what GlassWire does a little better. Thanks!

GlassWire firewall software made by SecureMix LLC helps protect your computer, privacy, and data by monitoring your network activity. Block unknown network connections with GlassWire's built in firewall tool. GlassWire also helps you monitor and protect remote servers. Are you always worried about going over your ISP bandwidth limit? GlassWire can warn you before you hit your limit and also show you what applications are hogging all your bandwidth. GlassWire is a powerful network security tool.

Also please check out our features page https://www.glasswire.com/features/.

Our Elite pricing is popular with our business and education users who monitor lots of servers and install our software on multiple PCs. You may feel more comfortable with our Basic or Pro software. Thanks for all your feedback.

Sputnik I just want to be clear : I am not angry about GW Guy or GlassWire.

The only point is that when I buy a software, I want to be sure of what is exactly the license and in the case of GlassWire it is really not clear at all what it is exactly.

I think that the owners of GlassWire just really don't know exactly where they are going with their licenses' politics.

I think that they have to make some changes to their actual politics (prices ar too high as some other people told) but the must important thing here is that they have to take firm and clear decisions about all that.

I think that their software is a very promising one, it is well designed with fine aesthetics but their indecision about their licenses' politics is dragging down a little bit their whole project.

Lito Just to add to my earlier comment. We are not saying your pricing is not fair or even unpopular for business or educational institutions, we are saying it is going to be unpopular for the majority of the buyers on this site. After reading the help file and faq I can tell I would need elite only because I want the unlimited history option. I already know I don't need remote monitoring at all. But $99.50 is not a price I would pay for it because as I said I only need one license. You might want to consider selling single licenses for all your versions, and only discounting when they buy 3 or more for pro or 10 or more for elite. But defaulting to making a user buy 3 or 10 is a bit much especially for a product that's only been around a year on this site.

singularity Where is the history stored? Local or on Glasswire server?
If it is local, it should be upto the user to set how much history they need to store.
Your versioning system is a bit weird. You should provide all features of elite except remote connections for a single pc user too.

http://www.ghacks.net/201...omparison/

Your pricing is eventually gonna bury you.. to be frank.
