John H Looks like a deal. I have been using the free version of IcoFX but it is no longer free.

Will this also create Icons for Apples?

H. H. Hallo,
first time trying iconican studio, it seems as if it could be quite interesting and easy to use. Nevertheless 2 questions:

1. what kind of registration is required (e.g. online activation / with
or without hardware footprint,...)?
2. I didn´t get the filter function working, even if I choose 256,256
I always get the error message, that
"the image size is not enough to apply filter"
Am I´m doing something wrong or is it a bug?

tthank you for responding in advance

Stan Why looks IconICan Studio like IconCool Studio and why are there the same informations on both sites (e.g. http://www.iconican.com/A...nican.html vs. http://www.iconcool.com/about.htm )? Is one of them a counterfeit?

Stan @BitsDuJour: I understand that you don't want to read product bashing or something like that but you should guard us from potentially suspect offers, so in my opinion the deleted q/a were justified.

Gray Lox Ref to the deleted message made by Jason Howard:
I read the message, and really don't understand what was against your rules.
He only made some simple research about the company and posted the results to answer on Stan Lewis.

Actually I'm a forums administrator too and "happily" delete all kinds of unfitting comments. I agree, that Jason's comment could have been unfavourable for the developer - but only if the dev doesn't have any explanation for the discrepancies.
So please give the company the chance to answer and your users the chance to form a view on this company.
Thank you.

Roger and I are double checking everything as we speak.

Gray Lox Come on Nico, you can better than that.

I have a copy of the comment.
How would you call it, when "A" gives wrong information? I would call it a lie.
How do you call it when "A" takes something that belongs "B"? If not bought or borrowed, I would call it stealing.

Anyway, Jason didn't accuse that company of any of this, he just questioned this behaviour.

Roger Thomasson Folks, we're going to halt the deal until we can resolve this situation to our satisfaction. We take these sort of accusations very, very seriously and have an absolute zero-tolerance policy when it comes to piracy.

Thanks for the heads up all, we'll post back here when we have a definitive answer.

Read a little closer. When a comment includes a phrase that can even REMOTELY be construed as culturally insensitive or derogatory, we axe it.

No apologies.

Mister Toad Noooooooo!

I have been waiting to buy this since last week. I arrive
here and the BUY tag is not present, so I start looking
over the site..... OMG.... Who the hell is STAN LEWIS????

I don't come here to get involved in these petty & ridiculous
dramatic "Peyton Place" episodes. I come here to get nice
software at humane prices (up yers MSoft). I have purchased
several apps here and have been overwhelmingly pleased.

These accusations are childish. Maybe Du Jour should deal
with these varmits. Please reinstate this offer soon. I
have already staked out a homey place on my hard drive for
this nifty lil' app.

However, this is unfair to serious customers; especially
those of us that KNOW HOW to appreciate developers efforts,
doubled with giving us the opportunity to purchase it well
below its value.

Don't bother apologizing to the developers, not to mention
all the folks that planned on purchasing this app today!
Naw, this is the INTERNET...a place to voice your UNFOUNDED
ACCUSATIONS; whilst remaining in complete ANONYMITY!

Jason Howard this time - no "language" just content.

I can find no mention of the software prior to November 2011.
However Iconcool.com was registered in March 2000 and is
currently at version 7. It certainly appears that the About Us
page on IconIcan is actually "About IconCool"

Both products claim to be founded in 2006.

Expiration date: 14 Nov 2012 20:32:00

"Also IconIcan products are highly recommended by large number of famous downloading websites and receive a lot of awards from these sites, such as the 5 stars honor on SnapFiles.com."

See for yourself...

http://www.snapfiles.com/...t=iconican
http://www.snapfiles.com/...t=iconcool

"Awards" they claim to have.

Softpedia - http://www.google.com.au/...tpedia.com
It appears the product is no longer listed at softpedia. (old google links)

Downloadsofts.com
http://www.downloadsofts....s/1-1.html
IconIcan isn't listed (IconCool is listed).
http://www.downloadsofts....tails.html

Also the award graphic that IconIcan displays on their site
http://www.iconican.com/a...dsofts.png is for a different product "Registry Winner" taken from
http://registrywinner.com/awards.php

IconCool actually link to the award pages where their products are mentioned. IconIcan does not. Read into that what you like.

carl thorpe Wow.

It seems clear by the "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)" if you attempt to visit the site via the "Website" link next to the usual place for the Buy button that something screwy is going on.

I can only assume that BDJ will make sure anyone who bought the deal before they pulled it is compensated.

DiggerP Yes ,unfortunately ,this time due diligence didn't work out.

@Carl Thorpe,
You're right ,the website is no longer available.
I bet they shutdown the server to avoid being compared against
IconCool Studio.
Such blatant abuse.More than 90% of their About page was a verbatim copy of the IconCool About page.
Want to have your jollies? A quick search will bring up several places where you can get a cracked copy of this software.
Talking about taking revenge ,haha.
No I'm not listing the URL :) It's up to the duped individuals to decide if 2 wrongs can make 1 right :)

BTW ,I did report them to IconCool ,but haven't had any response yet.

DiggerP @ William Tatters,
I doubt very much that poor English was a factor in this.
There are many legitimate software developers whose command of English may not be up to 'standards" ,but whose software is often excellent for the task it's designed for.
In my view it was a case of "comparison shopping" by people who like to explore all there is to know about a company and its products.

I've run to this in the past.I reported a suspicious site to the original author. In this case it turned out to be legitimate. The software was being sold under license with very generous conditions. The licensee was allowed to sell at a different price ,but also change the name of the software.

However ,this is not the case with IconIcan ,since their rep denied even knowing about IconCool.

In case anybody noticed, the IconIcan website is back up again.
Looks like it's beginning to be a "moving target".
They modified the about page in a couple of areas, but still largely resemble the IconCool About page.
They no longer state that they have been working on this for the last 6 years.Instead , now they claim to be in existence since 2004 ,but there is no record of that at all to be found on the web.

One thing I also disliked in all this, was the attempt to discredit the "whistle blowers" and in effect try to "shoot the messenger(s)".
Overly aggressive censoring of negative sounding posts is a disservice to the members ,since they would be no longer made aware of potential problems.
This particular case is a perfect example of why negative views should be allowed. However ,obviously no insults ,just the facts
as they have been observed or experienced by using the software.

Y'all come to your own conclusions :)

Roger Thomasson Final word folks: this promotion is officially kaput. Thanks for bringing the 'about page' similarities to our attention and don't hesitate to do so in the future. We despise piracy of any kind and act as quickly as possible when confronted with potential cases.

Anybody seeking a refund should be able to do so via RegNow. If you're having trouble, shoot me an email at:

Mister Toad My keyster is still chapped from missing this deal! Don't fret it though; the longer you live on this spinniing dirtball, so will the frequency of moments you will be confronted with more topics that will prolly land on you're "dislike em" list.

But, hey since we are all playing young detective; has anyone queried IconCool personnel as to how these rascals have been able to operate undetected until now? I know the Internet is a very big place, but it is also amazingly small when it comes to objects that are in one's own "radar".

For example, IconCool markets a Icon Control platform, and should we believe they are completely unaware of competition that is marketing a product alarmingly simular to their own?

Oh well, BJD will be closing the lid on this "can of worms"; so no sense in wasting precious "texting energy" on this app. We can pick up about this on the next deal I want; then gets "whisked" away...*snicker*

ACTUALLY, I am a just putting in the last word on this issue, a lifelong habit I have become quite fond of.... OK, BJD I'm done with my rebuttal; so lock out anymore activity... *snort*

IconCool Team IconIcan Studio is a complete piracy
==================================

Dear sir,

Recently, we were quite astonished to find a product called IconIcan Studio (website:www.iconican.com) is also listed on your site.

With simple comparison, we easily and clearly confirm that it's a complete piracy to our main product IconCool Studio. You can make a judgment from the following aspects:

1. The following picture shows the comparison of two products, you can find that IconIcan is a complete piracy.
http://webpage.pdfcool.co...onican.jpg

2. The product features described on www.iconican.com is strikingly similar to ours on www.iconcool.com.

3. The relevant text on the "Register", "FAQ" and "About" pages on www.iconican.com is almost the same as ours on www.iconcool.com.

4. The trial version downloaded from www.iconican.com has similar main functions, text and toolsbar icons as our product IconCool Studio.

Since IconIcan Studio isn't a direct cracked version of our product IconCool Studio, but a illegal product based on the source code of IconCool Studio. Our preliminary estimate is that this might be done by some of our separating employees. In order to maintain our Legal intellectual

property rights, punish illegal infringement as well as maintain the business environment of shareware, we sincerely hope that you could provide the following helps:

1. Since www.iconican.com doesn't provide any physical address, to facilitate the police investigation, I hope you can provide its information.
2. Please stop promote it but leave this page up with our comments in place.

We hope to receive your reply ASAP.
