What are people saying about Key Remapper 3 License Pack

Pascal COPPE Hi,
Is there any promotion for Key Manager ?

Retired Engineer I have some mouse-finger impairments, and have been working with Key Remapper (trial version) to assign mouse left-button double-click to a single keyboard keystroke. This will let me mouse over an icon which requires a double-click from my mouse hand, and execute this action with a *single* keystroke from my keyboard hand. (Unfortunately, mouse double-clicks are painful for me.) So far, all I've accomplished is locking-out the left mouse button, requiring a bit of keyboard hacking to uninstall/reinstall Key Remapper.

Could you please explain how to set up this mouse-to-key mapping?

Jan-Christoph Ihrens I'm also very interested in Key Manager. Will there be a promotion on BDJ in the near future?

Additionally, a feature comparison table for Key Manager and Key Remapper would be nice - I couldn't find one on the website.
Sep 27 2012 at 2:13pm Copy Link

Danny One can still equal both products (Key Remapper + Key Manager) simultaneously in the listing of BDJ. Why hard about do? Other providers did it too!

Jan-Christoph Ihrens @Danny Thys: Sorry, could you please reformulate that sentence? I'm afraid I'm unable to understand its meaning...

Jan-Christoph Ihrens Ah, thanks!

Well, how could I miss this one? I'm coming here to look for nice software every (or at least every second) day, but Key Manager obviously slipped my eyes. Too bad... :(

ATNSOFT Q: This tool has a multi language interface as Dutch?

A: Key Remapper currently supports only English, Deutsch, French, Spanish, Italian and Russian.

Q: ... So far, all I've accomplished is locking-out the left mouse button, requiring a bit of keyboard hacking to uninstall/reinstall Key Remapper. Could you please explain how to set up this mouse-to-key mapping?

A: Please make sure that everything has been defined correctly (see screenshot: http://atnsoft.com/images..._click.png)

Q: Is there any promotion for Key Manager?

A: Planned for the future.

Q: Additionally, a feature comparison table for Key Manager and Key Remapper would be nice.

A: Key Remapper is intended only for remapping keyboard keys and mouse buttons. Key Manager, however, also allows you to remap combinations of keys and mouse buttons, long and consecutive presses. It also enables you to perform various actions and represent them as a popup menu.

Stephane M @ATNSOFT, so if I already have Key Manager, I do not need Key Remapper.
Is that correct?
Thanks.

ATNSOFT The only advantage of Key Remapper is the ability to remap modifier keys (Ctrl, Alt, Shift and Win) and left mouse button.

Amit I would myself like to have the key manager deal. However in KEY MANAGER (mainly that I am concerned about, NOT KEY MAPPER) -

1) MOST IMPORTANTLY - IN key manager - is there any option of showing confirmations of any action we set either by a system tray notification / or sound alert / onscreendisplay OSD ?

If any of these 3 are not there, can they be included in a near future version - would be really what makes a software too good.

Other 2 not so important are -

2) - does remapping of any key or mouse button require a logoff or reboot or its just instant.

3) Also does key manager has any wizards to make the software easy to use as some other softwares ?
Sep 29 2012 at 2:05am Copy Link
0
ATNSOFT 1) We will try to implement this feature in future releases.

2) Does not require.

3) Please try to understand the essence of Key Manager. One of the advantages of Key Manager (and also Key Remapper) - is its simplicity.

Danny Key Remapper tool is also present in Key Manager, is this?
Sep 30 2012 at 1:17am Copy Link
0
Amit Ok thanks - to make clear what I meant in 1) - I wanted to suggest was like confirmation on any action PERFORMED - and not alert on the settings change etc or configuring key manager.

For eg. if volume is lowered by any set hotkey or any way by key manager - then If OSD onscreendisaplay or system tray mesage is shown.

And similarly for most of keymanager actions.

Key manager would be really good to use then.

Danny Okay, but then I had correctly understood it anyway: that Key Remapper actually also in Key Manager geintregeerd. So what Key Remapper can, it is also possible with Key Manager. Of course, Key Manager a more advanced version with many more features. Yet?

2. does it have templates, like Dvorak mapping?

ATNSOFT 1. as I understood, I can reconfigure a US keyboard to a Russian one, is it correct?

No, Key Remapper allows you only to remap (keys and mouse buttons).
Examples:
Mouse X2 Button remap to LCtrl
CapsLock remap to Ctrl + V
Apps remap to Mouse Middle Button
[Only in Skype] RShift remap to Ctrl + Enter
etc.

2. does it have templates, like Dvorak mapping?

No, but there are profiles.

VLM 1. When you say "Key Manager, however, also allows you to remap combinations of keys", do you mean something like

ctrl-shift-q, alt-f, p

in other words, 3 distinct presses in a sequence?

2. Also, I do not really understand this: "The only advantage of Key Remapper is the ability to remap modifier keys (Ctrl, Alt, Shift and Win) and left mouse button." Would you be willing to explain briefly what this means?

ATNSOFT 1. When you say "Key Manager, however, also allows you to remap combinations of keys", do you mean something like ctrl-shift-q, alt-f, p 3 distinct presses in a sequence?

2. Also, I do not really understand this: "The only advantage of Key Remapper is the ability to remap modifier keys (Ctrl, Alt, Shift and Win) and left mouse button." Would you be willing to explain briefly what this means?

In Key Manager you cannot remap:
Ctrl to Alt (remap modifier to some other key)

but you can remap:
Z to Ctrl;
Ctrl+Alt+Win+Z to Alt+F5
Ctrl+Mouse Left Button to Ctrl + F9
Shift + F5, 3, A, W (using popup menu) to Mouse X2 Button
RAlt, S, W to Launch MS Word
RAlt, S, P to Type Predefined Text
etc.

The Oneiros As far as differences are a concern, Key Remapper allows disabling individual actions, KM won't (unfortunately).
Plus it offers options to 'set a special trigger' and 'emulate a double press', which as far as I got I could not reproduce in KManager.

Right, ATNsoft?
Thanks for the offer, byt the way. Solid product with a clean interface.

ATNSOFT Q: 'emulate a double press', which as far as I got I could not reproduce in KManager.

A: You can use the "Key sequence" action. See demo video: http://www.atnsoft.com/ke...oubleclick

Q: For some curious reason, I'd like to be able to remap combo keys (like alt+F4) to something else.
Is that possible, in a future update...?

A: Please use Key Manager.

Q: Key Manager allows remapping key combo but the 'key blocking' function does not block modifier keys. Blocking the win key would be everything such a function should deal with!
Anything planned on this field, ATNsoft?

A: Yes, we will try to implement this feature (including remapping of modifier keys) in future releases.

Retired Engineer I have purchased and now use both Key Remapper and Key Manager. Given the amount of customer confusion I've read (which includes myself), I have a suggestion ... Why don't you just combine these two utilities into one? It is hard for me to imagine a customer who needs one of these, to not need the other.

Richard Andersen Is it possible to remap your keys to Dvorak layout, if you remap the keys physically on your keyboard?

Edit: I can see someone else has asked about a Dvorak template, which there isn't, but is it possible to do it yourself manually?

Edit2: It actually appears that many OS including Windows already have Dvorak support. Microsoft has made a Keyboard Layout Creator with which you can adapt the Windows Dvorak layout to any local keyboard standard. Check out wikipedia for more. Question is if you need an original Dvorak keyboard for this or if you just can remap the physical keys on your own?

VLM What Retired Engineer suggests is what I've been thinking throughout this promotion. I'm sure there is some historical explanation as to why there are 2 products, but today, it seems they should be one. Then raise the price to USD 20.

Think of all the questions you'll never, EVER have to answer again!!! What a time saver ... for us all!!!

Just a thought, of course.

Retired Engineer VLM:
Ordering both half-price specials from BitsDuJour would be US$22.50, which I is fair for a well-integrated combo utility. Documentation could also be much improved, as I'm still finding undocumented items in both UIs. (For Key Manager, under the "Long press" box, with a "2" in it, appears "tacts"; but I can't find out what "2 tacts" is. Can anyone on this board tell me?

With improvements to both the UI and Help System, I could probably be persuaded to pay US$25.00 for the combo. But, since I now own both, I don't need to. :)
Sep 30 2012 at 5:31pm Copy Link
0
VLM Yes, I understand. I can only imagine that it would be MUCH easier to manage one integrated set of functionality than 2 distinct products that are so close in so many respects. And the time spent discussing which product is which might then be constructively invested in ... ON NO!!! ... documentation.

As a user, the very idea of having to learn and work through 2 UIs sounds quite unappealing.

But perhaps I wax philosophical. :)

g harris Can your program(s) do this?

In Paint (mspaint.exe) ONLY!: middle-click hold-and-drag to scroll, both horizontally and vertically
by moving the mouse in either direction (might need to release the middle button and re-press
when changing directions --

this will be like the hand-icon drag-to-scroll in Adobe Acrobat, or in a browser.

I want this done in Paint ONLY, so that it doesn't break M-click functionality in other apps.

Thank You

So I understand ... 1st, you've assigned LCtrl + Mouse Left Button to do a hand-grab-scroll type action
(or just .... drag-scroll), then your assign Mouse Middle Button to replace the 1st assignment?

Secondly .... do the coding requirements make it necessary to even perform that 1st assignment?

Third .... which app is recommended to do this .... or both? Thx again

ATNSOFT Yes, just remapping: "Mouse Middle Button" to "Ctrl + Mouse Left Button".
No coding required. You can apply the remapping to multiple applications (using Exceptions (the "Apply" field in Key Remapper)).

Phred E For the life of me, I can't understand those designers who don't recognise that from the time of the first IBM PC AT keyboard, the key under the palm of the left hand in the front corner has been the Ctrl key - yet they go ahead and interfere with our muscle memory and put Fn keys there.
Can your program re-assign keys like the Fn* keys to somewhere more sensible?
*and their children, perhaps..
Thx.

1. During a previous promotion of Key Remapper, you wrote:

"Q: Key Manager allows remapping key combo but the 'key blocking' function does not block modifier keys. Blocking the win key would be everything such a function should deal with!
Anything planned on this field, ATNsoft?

A: Yes, we will try to implement this feature (including remapping of modifier keys) in future releases.

Is this now implemented in Key Manager?
_____
2. In a previous promotion, you wrote "1 tact = 100 milliseconds".

I've searched a bit and cannot draw a conclusion ... is a "tact" a standard unit of time, or something you use only in your product(s)?
_____
3. during the current promotion, you wrote: "Yes, it has the all features of Key Remapper and Text Paster except the remapping – "On press/On release" (Key Remapper).

Could you given an example of how/why someone might want this functionality?

Thanks!

ATNSOFT 1. We have already implemented this feature in Key Manager v1.8.
2. We use it only in our products.
3. For example, some specific keys do not send the "released" event.

Q: I just want to be very clear ... Key Ramapper (and Key Manager) do not change the underlying keystrokes from the point of view of the OS or any application. Rather, then enable a user to specify surrogate keystrokes, which the software than transforms into the matching entry expected by the OS or application. Is this correct?

A: It changes from the point of view of the OS and applications.
For instance, you can globally replace (remap) the Win key by the "Left Mouse Button".

"Key Remapper Home License (2 computers, 2 home licenses) ($12.48)"
or

VLM Okay, I'll try to be more clear this time. :)

Suppose application X has built-in shortcut shift-ctrl-alt-f for some function. Now, I use Key Remapper (or Key Manager) to remap that shortcut to win-=, alt-f, p. (I realize the example seems absurd. :)

Does Key Remapper/Manager somehow tell application X that its shortcut, shift-ctrl-alt-f, has been changed to win-=, alt-f, p? Or does KR/M recognize that application X is active, receive the new shortcut win-=, alt-f, p at the keyboard, then translate that into the shift-ctrl-alt-f that application X was awaiting and send shift-ctrl-alt-f through to application X?

And, I hope that's more clear! :) Thanks for your patience.

Michael R. Is it possible to remap two sequencial key usages to another sequence?
Example:
pressing CTRL-k + b => ....
pressing CTRL-k + k => ....

i.e. after pressing CTRL-k nothing happens yet and KR waits for another key to decide, into what to remap...

[Btw. CTRL-K+b/k are not entire fictive, they are used in Borland's editor to mark a block's start/end. Unfortunately another editor I use (HippoEdit) and probably most other editors too can' t be configured in a way, that I can map TWO these two key-actions into one functionality. So this tool would be the solution...]

ATNSOFT @Michael R.:

Q: Is it possible to remap two sequencial key usages to another sequence? Example: pressing CTRL-k + b => ....

A: No, it is not possible. You can use Key Manager.

Q: Is KeyRemapper a subset of KeyManager, i.e. is KeyManager able to define key-remapping program-dependent too?

A: Key Manager is a different product. Key Manager – a more functional version of the program Key Remapper that, in addition to remapping keys and mouse buttons, has many other useful functions. For example, Key Manager allows you to remap combinations of keys and mouse buttons, key and mouse button sequences, and long presses (press and hold). You can show your actions in the form of pop-up menus that can be opened with hotkeys, record, edit, and execute macros (key sequences), position mouse cursor, type and paste text (including formatted text), instantly fill in forms on websites, launch programs, open websites (you can insert currently selected text into their address parameters), change the layout and case of selected text, manage the power settings of your monitor and computer, control the volume or set it at a certain level, move and resize windows, and much more.

More details about Key Manager:
http://atnsoft.com/keymanager

Q: Does it make sense (and does it work fine), to run both programs at the same time?

A: It doesn't make sense. If you just need to remap keys and mouse buttons – you can use Key Remapper. If you need more – remap key combinations, key sequenses, popup menus, macro ... (see above) – you can use Key Manager.

@ATNSOFT: Thanks for your prompt reply, I will try it in Key Manager. If this works, you will make tons of OneNote users very happy - just with this function.

Wherease in MS Word etc, the keyboard functions for bold, italic and other letter formats can be changed within Word itself, OneNote requires a three-finger-splits STRG+SHIFT+B, STRG+SHIFT+I etc. This could not be changed so far.

BearPup To begin with, I bought KeyManager when it was offered here a little awhile ago, and I love it. It does everything that I bought it to do, and does so without a fault.

My questions are these: what is the difference between the two programs? Do I need both, or just one to do text replacement and double click control?

Thanks in advance.

wts Do any of the ATNSOFT key products offer the capability to list all the key assignments globally for a given login?

For example, some program (not necessarily one of ATNSOFT key products) may assign ALT-2 to perform an action. Another program may assign ALT-2 to do something different. Moreover ALT-3, for example, may not be assigned at all by any program on that system.

Furthermore, if I would just try many combinations, and some of them do something, it may not be obvious which program assigned a given key combination to do that.

If this universal key assignment listing is not available from ATNSOFT, does anyone know of a program that can do so? Thank you!

BearPup Hello All,
Just a word of praise for this software. The last time this was offered I took the deal as text replacement that works in Windows 10 has been hard to come by.

However, the Atnsoft program has worked across Windows versions, from 7, to 8.1, to 10.0. The last time this was offered it was for a 2 license package, but as I have 5 different computers, I've come back to get this excellent software for my remaining computers.

For those considering this software, I recommend it wholeheartedly; and given the 30 day money back guarantee, you have nothing to lose by trying it out.

In the interest of complete honesty, I have no financial or other compensation reward for posting this review.

Best Regards,
Master BearPup

Second keyboard: total custom for all my macros and scripts.
Can your program do this? If not, please consider this a wish list.”

William W. Geertsema After I downloaded the ATNSoft page of Key Remapper, BitDefender just now reported:
"\ATNSOFT Key Remapper - Key, mouse button and mouse wheel remapper_files\watch.js.0.zip is infected with JS.TeslaCrypt.2.Gen."

Although this warning relates to the website, and not to the program or its setup file itself, I would rather be safe than sorry, and I will install the version now offered (1.11.0.440) only after I have further looked into this matter.

I repeat: the program itself may very well be OK.
