What are people saying about LIVEditor

Hank Friedman According to BitDefender, the website that hosts LIVEEditor is laden with malware and should be avoided.

This makes the program much less desirable to purchase.

Edwin Yip @Hank, thanks for letting me know about that, that's false positive, I'll see what I can do.

Con Fusia Interesting Edwin. Your application could also be used to edit epub (not mobi) format ebooks since they are also html, no?

On a side note, how is the Project Files update to your Writing Outliner progressing?

Edwin Yip @Con, sorry, I haven't investigated the epub file format yet, if if it's just html, LIVEditor should just work.

Re the rewritten Writing Outliner updates, I've posted news in my latest blog post: http://writingoutliner.co...-outliner/

major4579 Edwin,

What about editing html pages that include a fair amount of PHP (more then an 'Include' statement, and NOT WordPress, etc). Does Liveditor support PHP?

Or would these PHP statements be ignored.

Thanks,
John

Edwin Yip Hi John, any PHP code you edited will be there, but the preview only supports the PHP include statements (with static file names, not variables).

Mitch Kite A couple of questions. First of all, what are the application functionality differences between the Pro and Personal edition? I looked on your website and couldn't find anything obvious indicating the differences.

I tried the Pro trial version over the weekend and I wasn't able to see any of my PHP includes in the preview. So, what is needed to make the PHP preview work? Any configuration required? I assume that you need to download PHP and then point your application to the PHP location? If so, how do I point LivEditor at PHP? Note: I am using PHP includes with static names.

Ralph Bressler Downloaded and installed the trial. Very little information on the screen. No HELP obvious! (You have to click on the name of the program. OPened an HTML file from a drive. Code shows just fine. Clicked BEAUTIFY. Got a JavaScript error. Could not figure out how to get a preview. Uninstalled program. Too much bother!

Edwin Yip @Mitch Kite, it's not a 'Pro' edition and a 'Personal' edition, but *Commercial* License and Personal License. The former is for companies, and the later is for individuals, the functionalities are the same.

And LIVEditor's main idea is combining the code editor, the browser and a Firebug-like css/html inspector together let you edit html/css/js in real-time, and the PHP preview only support very basic PHP include statements like 'include('d:\index.html');'.

Edwin Yip @Ralph, The help document will be there soon, if you previously use these 3 tools to edit your website, LIVEditor should be quite obvious: a code editor, a web browser to see the preview, Firebug or Dev Tools to find related css styles.

The main menu is like the Firebug button, looks like it's not obvious to some people, I seem need to make it more obvious.

@Yosh, yes, I know, it'll be soon.

Mitch Kite Hi Edwin, Thanks for your response. Since I mainly use PHP, the software is currently too limited for my needs. I love the concept of LivEditor and I hope you will one day add more support for PHP.

Edwin Yip @Mitch Kite, actually, I've done some technical research and evaluation about complete PHP support, but one concern is that, the web page will be reloaded each time you edit your PHP code it'll be re-executed, I'm not quite sure if this will be a concern (not about performance, that part I can solve), any comments anybody?

Mitch Kite Hi Edwin, In my opinion, it would be a small inconvenience to have the preview reload edited PHP code. I rarely edit my PHP code anyway. I do web development and have 10 or so standard PHP includes that get "pulled in" to a webpage. They are pretty much static and are only slightly edited with an external editor. The main issue I was having is that a statement like ?php include("navmenu.html"); ? doesn't seem to show up in the preview. Any thoughts as to why that is not displaying?
Jan 22 2014 at 6:01am Copy Link
0
Edwin Yip Mitch, PHP includes like include("navmenu.html") should just work fine, but in rare cases if LIVEditor has just started, the first time loading of a PHP page doesn't render correctly, but if you press [F5] to reload, it'll be just fine, can you try that?
