What are people saying about MockupTiger

Steve Wright This looks very good. Interesting concept, very simple to use.

I realise this is the price for the Enterprise edition, but I'm just wondering what the differences are between that and the Personal edition that you also sell on your site.

Are you going to be offering PDF export anytime soon do you think?

Jan-Christoph Ihrens The personal edition, its benefits and limitations are described here: http://www.mockuptiger.co...al-edition.

I'm not absolutely sure about the PDF feature (I didn't try the software yet), but in the description of the personal edition I found the sentence "Due to Javascript limitation, we cannot provide the ability to export to PDF", so I guess the enterprise edition actually has a PDF export feature. A full list of features and a comparison chart would be good...

Nilesh Jethwa Hi Steve and Jan,

The enterprise edition can be installed on your own domain/intranet just like wordpress/drupal or any other web application.

The enterprise edition works on your desktop too and it has PDF/PNG export features just the way you see in the online edition.

We will be releasing new Collaboration features in coming days and that will allow for you to have your own team working on your instance of MockupTiger hosted on your domain/intranet.

This promotion gives the ability to purchase as many users and when you upgrade (free of cost) you will be able to use them.

The personal edition is a standalone web app and currently does not have PDF option ( in future we may provide it through java or flash plugin)

The following link is the personal edition.
http://www.mockuptiger.co...eframe.php

Since it is standalone, the new collaboration features will not be available in the personal edition. But in future all the UI and widgets related features that we add to the Enterprise edition will be automatically added to the personal edition.

(....In future, you will be able to export to HTML files.....)

Any idea "when" in the future this feature will be available?
(a month, 6 months, 1 year, ?)

Thanks.

Ian G I build wireframes for PHP web projects all the time.. how does this software benefit me?

Is there any code from a mockup I can use such as CSS? Html? PHP?

I'm not following how it benefits web designers.. prove it is of benefit and I will buy it.

TIA,

Ian

Nilesh Jethwa @disenchanted It is less than 6 months. We have tons of enhancements to be added and export to html is the top priority. This week we are aiming to release the collaboration features so you can share your projects, create multiple teams etc.

@Ian Please try our online version. No need to download anything
http://www.mockuptiger.co...eframe.php
(You need Chrome or Firefox)

There is no code generation. Soon we will provide output in html (probably with jquery widgets)

Thanks

Kevin S Not bad looking. Seems very similar to Balsamiq Mockups.

http://balsamiq.com/products/mockups

Though, it does seem to have far fewer element types.

Nilesh Jethwa Hi Kevin,
Thanks

Which elements do you think are missing? Infact, MT has the largest library of all mockup applications. You won't find the charts and graphs with real prototyping ability as of yet in any other apps.

Jim Maioriello I thought I would mention that I have tried to download the mocktiger.zip file a couple of times, but my antivirus software "ESET NOD32" quarantines it because it detects a threat "PHP.Krptic.AB trojan."

It could be a false positive and I am mentioning here with the hope that someone else can provide more information.
Oct 19 2011 at 7:13am Copy Link

Nilesh Jethwa Hi Jim,
It is a false positive. It is because of some PHP files have base64 encoding. We will try to fix this in coming release.

James Kenney I think he may have meant that BM had far fewer element types than MT.

Am I reading correctly ("The enterprise edition works on your desktop too and it has PDF/PNG export features just the way you see in the online edition.") that the enterprise edition CAN be used standalong like the personal edition?
Or does that mean that it can IF you install a Windows AMP system on your PC.
Do you suggest XAMP or WAMP?.

Nilesh Jethwa Hi James,
You are right, the enterprise edition works as desktop and you can use it on your windows.

It comes with a portable webserver so just download, unzip and launch

http://www.mockuptiger.co...on-desktop

The personal edition started as an experiment and provides a lightweight standalone (for our future Ipad and mobile apps)

The main difference between personal edition and enterprise version used on desktop is that with Enterprise edition you can share your projects and view across different PC.

For e.g at my office, I have MT installed on one computer named rudrasoft_main and let say it has current IP address 19.20.30.40

Now if I go to another machine which is using the same router/internet, I can access the MT pages like this
rudrasoft_main/mockuptiger/base/mt.php

or
19.20.30.40/mockuptiger/base/mt.php

With the standalone personal edition this is not possible. The only way you can export is PNG files
Rudrasoft LLC - Oct 19 2011 at 7:49am Copy Link

James Kenney OK, so in desktop mode it still runs a wAMP server, but it is included.
So it will have more overhead than the Personal version, but it can be accessed from any computer inside the firewall(or outside if I open up port 80.
Can it be set to use a different port? I sometimes have six or seven apps with built-in web servers running and have to keep them on different ports(of course!).

I assume that you do not need multiple licences if it is only yourself accessing it remotely.

Is there any sort of guest account for people that just need to look at it?
Or do I need to get a licence for everyone that needs to look at it?
Oct 19 2011 at 8:40am Copy Link
0
Nilesh Jethwa James, it should not be a problem with different port. The server2go uses 4001 as the port (i think).

We are releasing new powerful collaboration features where you can share URL for viewing or fine grain control with groups etc. With the upcoming new release if you make the document public you can then share the URL to the user.

In the current version you can still share the PNG URL with your users (no additional license)

License is needed only if you want the user to login into MT and do stuff (viewing or editing)
Rudrasoft LLC - Oct 19 2011 at 8:55am Copy Link
0
Alain Lesage I could find the license terms on your web site.

From your last post, I understand that, if I install MT on my own web site, and I want to let my clients use the software to prepare mockups to show me what they want, I do have to buy a license for every user?

Wow, this would not be much economical sense for a small web agency.
Oct 19 2011 at 9:10am Copy Link
0
Nilesh Jethwa Alain,
the license is per user in the MT system. With the new collaboration features you can share documents without logging into the system.

Since the collaboration features are not released yet we will consider licensing options for view only login accounts, team packs etc

Thanks. I bought it.

I do hope that you can do something easier on the wallet for small teams. Today's deal is great but at 97 $ per additional user, I wouldn't consider it. Maybe a different fee for those who only contribute (modify) without being able to create a new mockup.

David Volle This program is flagged and quarantined as containing the Kryptic.AB trogan when scanned by ESET security software. I realize that you explain that this is a false positive. The "false" positives are a huge problem, your software is phoning home from a web page running in on a server started on my machine, I'm not sure I would even call that a false positive, seems like exactly what security software should stop.
Problem is the program is totally useless as it won't run unless the security software is turned off.

Nilesh Jethwa Thanks Alain for your purchase and ideas.

We have that in mind and will provide new licensing terms when we release the collaboration

Nilesh Jethwa David,
The software is trying to fetch license when you install. That is the only time it interacts with the server. We will try to fix the trojan alert in the coming release.

David Volle One of the first things I noticed is that lack of any measurements.
Is there some way to show a ruler or see sizes of objects when you drag them?
Oct 19 2011 at 10:33am Copy Link
0
Nilesh Jethwa David,
This is a missing feature. The upcoming version has grids and you can set the block size for the grid but this is not suggest we don't need ruler or other size info. We have it in our pipeline and get to it incrementally.
Rudrasoft LLC - Oct 19 2011 at 10:38am Copy Link

David Volle I'm glad grids are on their way, they are a really important feature to me (And I would guess to many others).
What is your upgrade policy, if I just bought the product do I get upgrades or will I have to buy a new version?
Oct 19 2011 at 2:16pm Copy Link
0
Nilesh Jethwa Yes upgrades are free for 12 months. We will provide the steps to upgrade the application.
Rudrasoft LLC - Oct 19 2011 at 2:29pm Copy Link
0
James Kenney What price are upgrades after the 12 months?

Also, one of my uses would be random users logging on to a website and adding drawings, kind of like a BBS, but with drawings. What kind of licence would be needed for this, as there would be an unknown number of user, and they would be constantly changing.
Can multiple user use the same user account, and just not be able to have more than one logged on at a time?
Oct 19 2011 at 3:20pm Copy Link
0
Nilesh Jethwa James,
The system is very much like any CMS/wordpress etc

So it is possible to share your login to someone and they can keep editing the same document. This will keep overwriting each other's edits. The system allows multiple logins of the same login userid.

We have not set the upgrade price but it would be optional to receive future updates and it would be around 20% of purchase price.

James Kenney If that is 20% of the $20.37 then that is amazing! If it is off of the full retail then it is still very good.
OK, I will bite.

Software Geek I am an artist, and sometimes I do mockups, why would you choose to promote this by showing a video that only shows the adding of multiple types of charts onto a canvas. Do you think that that is all a mockup software should do? I rarely use charts in mockups so I would expect to see an overall functionality of a software not focus on one specific thing. For this reason and the horrible video that doesnt show me anything that I would actually need this software for I have no interest in looking into it further.
Aug 18 2012 at 7:09am Copy Link

Nilesh Jethwa @software Geek , The software does more than just chart prototyping. Infact no other tool provides charting widgets. Mockuptiger has tons of web and software related widgets. Please check http://www.mockuptiger.com and you will see the variety of different mockups you can create.

I apologize if the video misled you to believe that the software is restricted to only charts.

Mark Johnson I work as a software architect, and do mockups all the time of proposed websites or desktop applications. I currently use Balsamiq (web and desktop) so was looking at MockupTiger to see what it offered.

I have to agree with SG; you really need to do a video that shows off the abilities of the software and not just concentrating on charts.

I tried the web demo on the website. I see the product has potential, but it is currently missing a lot of standard components that are found on websites or in desktop applications. Even in the demo, the emphasis seems to be "look, we can do fifty different types of charts IN COLOR and USING YOUR DATA", but other important elements are missing. I also noticed that some of the pre-built 'public demos' lock up on 'Please wait... Loading Objects" - I could never get the 'Desktop Charts' demo to finish loading.

If you give the other elements of mockups the same type of treatment you have already given charts, this will be an excellent product. Right now the charts seem to be the main emphasis of the entire program, and about the only time I put a chart into a mockup is to show the customer "See, a chart would go here". I really can't imagine doing a mockup that has in it a chart that is an exact representation (with data) of what the chart would look like when built, but the rest of the mockup is so extremely barebones. Oh, and the 'Do not try -- crazy stunt' option on each object really has to go.

Like I said, this has some real potential, I'll keep an eye on it in the future.

Nilesh Jethwa Hi Mark,

Thanks for taking look at Mockuptiger.

Just to give a fair treatment you can see lot of other videos and tutorials in the help section

Agree with the "crazy stunt" option to go.

Some screenshots from the gallery

And finally you can check the live demo
https://www.wireframes.or...php?x=DEMO

It needs Modern browser such as Firefox or Chrome. Can you try the above demo link and see if you are getting the same "Please wait.."

Thanks again

Mark Johnson The live demo is what I was trying. I went in again and am no longer seeing the 'Please wait... Loading Objects' that won't go away. It seems to be working ok now.

I'll keep an eye on the product, thanks.

Randy Martin I concur. $58 is too big a chance to take on something that looks like a one-trick-pony. How something is marketed tells me a lot about what's important to the designer. What looks important is bells and whistles. I, too, will wait.

Roger Thomasson Folks, it's pretty clear that MockupTiger does quite a bit more than simple charting. Three of the four screenshots we've featured are *not* charts, not to mention the bulk of the product website:

The video we've included is simply one example in a powerful, varied toolset.

I attempted to try the online demo at your website, using IE9...but I was redirected to another web page that offers a download for Google Chrome Frame.

Please explain that. I must download and install this Google software before viewing your demo?

Nilesh Jethwa Hi Preston, thank you for checking out the software. The app works on Chrome or Firefox without any plugin but if you need to use IE then you need the chrome frame plugin. The sad truth is even though IE9 supports html5 it does not implement all in the spec and hence users have to use the chrome frame plugin.

If you have firefox you can use that instead

Thanks

Sara User Can you tell us something about the interoperability of the diverse elements created by MockupTiger? I'm asking because some time ago, I trialed 2 other, similar softwares in the same price range (original asking price around 100$), and to my surprise, in both, these elements were just 1-piece graphics, more or less:

For example, I had naively assumed I could get menus, and then assign commands to the elements of such menus, ie that clicking on those menu entries then would bring me to another mockup page onto which then to create other mockup elements, and so on.

This was not the case, let alone such functionality for possible sub-menus: Almost any mockup element wasn't but a graphic, "interactive" just in its entirety, not by its sub-elements.

My further research then seemed to indicate that what I had been after, is offered, more or less, by competitors in the 500$-and-up price range, but not in the 100$ price range; I then reverted back to build my mockup screens with MS Visio, as I had done before, since it's not beautiful graphic elements that count for my software/web design work, but full interoperability of the elements, so that I get some realistic functional spec from it.

So at the end of the day, I don't really get the idea behind 100$ wireframe software in general, and I'd be very interested in knowing about the interoperability of the sub-elements (details) of the elements here: perhaps you do something better in this respect than your competitors? Thank you!
