Mark K Not impressed with the software. Downloaded the trial. Setup a job to run at 12:00 PM. It started at 12:01:48 and errored out at 12:03. No image was created. When I opened the program to see what had happened, I found out if it had created an image it ignored where I told it to save the image, instead deciding to save it to the drive it was backing up. Good plan. Hard drive crashes and the image is on the crashed hard drive. Looking at the .xml reports told me nothing. Uninstalled.

O&O Software The time needed for creating backups is so strongly connected to, among other factors, the computers, disks, and system configurations involved, that "average backup speed" is just not something we can know in advance.

O&O Software The location for saving the image should be set in the job itself under "Add as job/ Image/ Storage path". The trouble you report should not happen if this is done.

O&O Software The O&O DiskImage Professional Edition cannot be used for backing up Windows Servers: this can only be done with the Server Edition of the product.

In most cases, network drives themselves cannot be imaged with imaging software like O&O DiskImage. They can, however, be used as a location for saving Image files.

Bertie Brummel @ vendor:
Looks like like you have not yet discovered the "read more posts by ..." option above the "Like" button? :-)

My other two questions were:

a) Some online- reviews for V. 8 state, DiskImage is noticeable slower than for example TrueImage 2014. Was V. 9 speed-improved?

b) Comes DiskImage 9 with a "Try & Decide" feature like it was offered in True Image up to V. 2014?

Thanks!

O&O Software Thanks. I actually did start looking for them but thought I would take the lazy way out and just ask you to resend them. Please excuse!

O&O does not make direct comparisons between its products and those of competitors. We do, however, optimize the features every time we release a new product version.

All O&O products are sold with a 30-day money-back guarantee: if a customer is not happy with a purchase, the license can be canceled and the full payment refunded if we are notified within 30 days of purchase.

Bertie Brummel Sorry, but why do you think my two questions

- has operating speed been improved since v.8?
- does O&O DiskImage include a "try & decide" feature

needs a direct comparison to a competitor's product?
Looks like this German vendor still needs to learn a lot about customer-friendly
support. Reason enough for me to pass the upcoming offer.

O&O Software My last response mentions that we optimize a product's features before every new release. With this in mind, users who wish to test the product are welcome to do so in advance of purchasing so if the product's speed is not to their liking, they can make their decision accordingly.

I also responded that users can have their money back within 30 days of purchase if not satisfied.

Sorry this doesn't sound friendly enough to you.

O&O Software Just in case you're not aware of it, O&O DiskImage 9 has an integrated feature for creating bootable media. As a result, O&O BuildPE is no longer required.

If, however, you still prefer using O&O BuildPE, here's what you can do to receive a link:
1) purchase a license
2)register the license(s) with O&O using a valid email address
3)enter that email address on the following Support page:
http://www.oo-software.co...overy?r=pn

Once you do that, an email containing your license key and a link for O&O BuildPE will be sent automatically to the address used for registration.

Sound alright to you? Please let us know if you have any questions.

George Butel Do you have a protocol for uninstalling DiskImage 7 off of a Win8.1 machine? It's not "compatible", but will sometimes mount images (with difficulty), which is what I was using it for. I tried uninstalling it several ways, including with Revo, but even a simple uninstall hosed the machine, requiring me to restore a Macrium image of a couple of weeks prior to the mess. (When DiskImage7 proved unworthy of Win8/8.1, I bought Macrium, which has worked perfectly since.) Would installing v.9 on top of v7 eliminate the old version (v7 is Laplink's rebranded version of your product)? I'd like to restore an old image or two just so I can uninstall a few programs (like Adobe's) in order to be able to reinstall them (i.e., restore an image just to deactivate some programs so I can use them again.)

George Butel One other question: if the program is installed on one computer, and that computer has to have Windows reinstalled to a time prior to the time DiskImage was installed, does trying to reactivate the program fail, or, assuming that the computer in question is still functional enough to do so, can the program be deactivated on that system before reinstalling Windows? Or, does your activation server recognize that it is the same computer, i.e., does it recognize the hardware signature and allow re-activation?

O&O Software Sorry, but the answer to your question is yes and no.

While O&O DiskImage 9 has no problem working on dual system computers, version 9 does not support XP. A single license is all you'd need for using O&O DiskImage 9 on both systems in one machine - one registration for each system.

O&O Software While it's not clear what you mean by "boot the bootable media from CD", the boot medium (CD/DVD/USB stick) that a user creates from O&O DiskImage 9 is able to start a down computer without going through Windows. Once started, the user can then access an image file and restore it.

Hope this answers your question fully.

O&O Software Regarding the question about restoring Windows to a time previous to the O&O DiskImage installment: once the product has been installed in the newly restored computer, there is no problem in registering the license.

No need to deactivate the license before registering the new installation on the same computer.

O&O Software We had a little trouble following parts of your message. But here is what we can tell you right now:

The problems you had with uninstallation would only make installing version 9 impossible. Although Laplink should normally be the ones to ask about deinstalling their product, we are happy to help with your request.

Our Technical Support will be sending you a link and instructions for enabling logging for the unistallation of version 7.

There should be no problem restoring the image you created with that other product.

Rich OBrien Can O&O Disk Image Pro make a bootable clone of my Windows 7 boot drive?
Casper does this but all of my Chrome browser extensions disappear and must be manually restored after I start Windows using the cloned copy. AOMEI Partition Assistant's can perfectly make a bootable clone of my Windows 7 boot drive including Chrome's extensions but AOMEI can't copy to a drive partition that has anything on it. Everything on the target drive partition must first be deleted before AOMEI can copy a cloned, bootable image to the drive.

Rich OBrien I downloaded the trial version and ran the Disk Image Wizard.
The choices were Backup entire hard drive and Backup selected files and folders. My entire hard drive is 500 GB and contains four partitions. A third obvious choice, Backup Drive partition is missing. The Select all disks button failed to open a browser, preventing me from trying O&O Disk Image Wizard.
Next tried O&O Disk Image and it told me my trial period had expired. So I'm not allowed to try new version 9. The new version might be worth buying. It doesn't look like I'm going to find out.

Amit I had bought v9 of the software 3license and had problems with the rescuemedia, which wasnt doing any functions successfully. I did email their support and I had when also bought 1year premium support but there was no response. very disappointing to say. if this promotion can be used for getting license to v10, 3license for well discounted rate then I will try and use v10, but going with same company whose earlier version was too problematic and without support for even after buying premium support, cant say on it.

Bruce A high level view of the major differences between DiskImage v 7, 8, 9 and latest v10 at their FAQ page, item number 16, at: www.oo-software.com/en/su...odiskimage
Just FYI.

TO O&O reps:
I am considering this product, and,
I would love a bit more clarification on the new 'features' listed:
Win 10 compatibility (OK, no need to explain, and I will be avoiding Win10 as long as possible...)
File based backup twice as fast - so does the faster operation only apply to file-based mode? vs whole disk image mode?
Driver integration when using boot medium - can you explain?
Thanks.
Feb 15 2016 at 12:20am Copy Link
0
O&O Software Thanks for your questions.

As the words imply, the time needed for making file-based backups has been reduced considerably. We did this as a response to user feedback and the wish to accelerate this process. O&O DiskImage is usually praised for how quickly it's able to create images.

Users can now opt to add a driver directly to the boot medium while the bootable disk is being created. This feature is now available in addition to the existing O&O DriverLoader that allows users to load additional drivers as the need arises.

Bertie Brummel Sometimes I get the impression, the folks @ O&O are the masters of useless comments.

Let me quote from your website:

" Brand new file-based backup: now twice as fast as ever before – "

How can something "brand new" be twice as fast as ever before??

At least you need to define what a "file based backup"
is. My former tests with the paid vers. 9 showed, that creating images needed much more time than using the competitor Acronis True Image 2014 on the same PC. IIRC this was mentioned / critizised by other users in previous comments too. Likely this the reason why people are asking re.the speed in V. 10.now.......

Has the speed of creating full / incremental images been improved in V.10 or not? Examples please.
Feb 15 2016 at 4:21am Copy Link
0
O&O Software The optimization we applied to accelerate file-based backup is brand new and developed especially for this purpose. Inernal tests we ran confirmed a dramatic reduction in the amount of time needed. Again, this acceleration applies to file-based backup only, not to the creation of images.

In the end, the time needed for creating images (as well as file backups) will always depend on the particular configuration of the system involved.

Fredrick FYI - I use PayPal “Two Factor Authentication,” and the O&O PayPal checkout did not display the “additional security” message or redirect to the code entry page. It simply failed to connect with the following message: “Secure Connection Failed. The connection to www.paypal.com was interrupted while the page was loading. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.”

However, the PayPal workaround of entering the six digit code after the password allowed me purchase the software.

If O&O support reviews this message, please update your PayPal checkout to properly detect PayPal “Two Factor Authentication” and redirect to the code entry page.

O&O Software Thanks for your message. While I can't explain why you never saw an answer to your question for version 10, we do make every effort to respond to all questions and comments we receive on this website.

Regarding your question: O&O DiskImage 11 cannot be used for imaging/restoring Hybrid HDs if they are composed of separate HDDs and SSDs.

It can, however, be used if the Hybrid consists of an SSHD with an SSD read (such as with something like this: http://www.seagate.com/de.../#features )

Please let us know if you have further questions about this or any other aspect of O&O DiskImage 11.

O&O Software Thanks for your comment about the product. And thanks as well for giving us the chance to correct what you wrote about discounted upgrades. Users of O&O Professional Editions can always get a special price for purchasing the latest version by going to the respective product page on the O&O website and then scrolling down till the words "Already an O&O customer?" appear. When these words are clicked, the user can then enter one of his existing serial numbers for this product and upon doing so, will see a special price for purchasing displayed.

Please keep in mind, however, that these reduced prices might not be as generous as the special offers you find in BitsDuJour promos!

Rich OBrien O&O DiskImage 11 Pro is one of only four programs I've found that can actually clone a bootable drive from a Windows 10 system boot drive. It took 15 minutes to clone my 35 GB drive to a freshly formatted empty drive partition. The cloning ran within Windows 10 and allowed me to use my computer while it ran in the background.
That's important. I recently reviewed several of the programs that claim to create bootable drives by cloning the Windows 10 system boot drive. Many programs only run in PreOs before Windows starts. One such programs took 70 minutes. So you couldn't use your computer for over an hour.
A different program ran within Windows 10 but hogged resources so terribly that you couldn't actually use Windows to do much while it ran.
The O&O DiskImage 11 Pro user interface is the best of any disk cloning program.
I appreciate software companies that constantly work on making their software better. I downloaded a 30-day trial version 11.0.61 yesterday and already have received the upgrade to 11.0.87. O&O DiskImage 11 Pro is extremely good and seems likely to be even better in the near future.

can the license be moved to a new PC or laptop?
Is there a provision (utility, etc) to uninstall the license for the purpose of installing the software to the new PC or laptop?

Thanks.

Andy Gooch Before I buy this, could you tell me if there is an offer on the O&O PowerPack, as its price is only a little higher than that of DiskImage on its own?

Michael R. Am I able to backup an entire harddisk (and so keep the partition structure) without the content of specific partitions?

Can I do the above - cloning, but leave the content of specific partitions out - with a direct copy (from one harddisk to another), i.e. without a backup/restore-process?

Lito Can this clone a system drive with a 512 byte/sector and convert it while it clones the drive to a 4k byte/sector drive that has no 512 byte.sector emulation on it? The problem is described in this amazon review:

O&O Software For Lito
The answer is no, cloning with O&O DiskImage cannot not convert or change the size of any sector.
