David Silver Don't waste your money on this.  It does a great partition backup, but that is it.  You cannot add changed files to it.  Only re-do the complete backup.  Despite what the program description says, you cannot do differential or incremental backups.  I wasted my $15.00.  Don't waste yours.

pete . David,

You can do differential and incremental backups with the program. Go under the Backup and Recovery section and look at the bottom where it says Switch to Advanced Mode and click on it. On the left hand side look for Advanced Backup Tasks. Under that there are Differential and Incremental Backup tasks that you can perform.

Nick Katz Is there any way to limit the number of backups saved, or the space used? I want to be able to make weekly backups automatically to an external drive, and then have the old ones automatically deleted when new ones are created so the drive does not run out of space and I don't have to think about it unless something goes wrong. Can it do that or do I have to do this manually by deleting the old ones? Anybody know?
The web site says you can make Cyclic backups. Is that what I want?
Thanks.

Frank Stephens Nick Katz, you can view the PDF manual from their webpage, link on the right. Cyclic backups, page 140, will do what you want. Install the trial version and compare how it describes your drives/partitions/volumes with what Windows Disk Management says. I went with ShadowProtect Desktop over Acronis or Paragon for several reasons, including the fact that they couldn't handle my hardware configuration. Many people are happy with Paragon and haven't had problems, and you can't beat the price. They have numerous products, however. The website also has an edition comparison, on the left.

Yes, Cyclic Backup is what you need :-) It's available in Full Scale Mode of the program.

Nick Katz thanks Pavel,
Another question:
So I'm trying it and it looks like to backup my internal hard drive, with Windows on it, I would have to backup; the master boot record and the rest of the drive separately? I admit I'm not close to an expert on this stuff, but that seems correct in order to do a cyclic backup.

AA BB I've not been able to get this offer to display for hours - and now that I have it on screen - the Buy Now button does nothing. What's up?

And how about a 'history' page - for questions asked and not read before a 'deal' expires. I've missed a few lately. I don't thing the 'new' layout is working well for me at alll.

This is the page link I get now if it helps:

1. How does it compare with Backup & Recovery 2012 Free?

Paragon Software Hello,
1. Unfortunately, there is not a direct comparison page with the both editions. But have a look at the Home version website - http://www.paragon-softwa...rison.html to get more information about the full version of Backup & Recovery and to know about addition features which might be useful for you such as advanced backup, scheduling, recovery CD and etc.
2. Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for minor versions only. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted.

Gary I'm a complete novice concerning backing up of my computer, but have realized it's something I should be doing. Is this a program a novice like myself can use safely and efficiently? Can I use it to back up my complete hard drive, including the OS to an external hard drive? I don't think I'll need to do daily back ups, but maybe once a week. Can I back up on a need to use basis?

Paragon Software Hi Gary,
It doesn't matter either you novice in PC or an expert and have a plenty of experience to set a strong backup strategy. Backup 8 Recovery is the best solution for backing your PC up (including OS, important data) continuously or just make a snap shot at once to recover it after system fault or crash (example by virus) when you need.

Ron Walenciak It would help if you could list a few specific differences between 12 Home and 12 Free, since it isn't so easy to compare what's listed on your website. It appears to me that backing up via ftp to an external site might be one (and a great one); emailed results is another? Are there other features in Home that one can't do without? :)

Is the time on Differential backups any better in Home? Seems like it takes quite a few hours to do a Differential backup to my NAS.

Thanks,

Ron

I agree it is difficult to compare 2012 Home and Free. One difference I am aware of is Home allows building a WinPE rescue system, while with Free the rescue is Linux-based only.

P C Just downloaded the B&R 12 trial version. It seems the backup speed is a bit slow. To backup 33G of data in C drive:

1. B&R 12 trial - 40 mins

3. easeus to-do backup v5 free - 12 mins

In addition, B&R 12 makes the system a little bit not responding during backup process. 50% discount is tempting, but the performance ...

Artur Drozdek Hi, I've a question. This software is "licensed per computer, and not per user", what if I'll buy a new Laptop in the future? My present Laptop is quite old, and I think it'll be replaced by new one soon. Will it be possible to contact the support , and move the license from my old laptop to the new one?

Kind regards,
Artur

Yosh M What is the license? Can I use this on all my home computers or must I buy a license for each one?

Can I have one computer backed up to multiple places (e.g., Network disk on my LAN plus an FTP server somewhere else)?

Is there a return policy? E.g., if I buy it and can't get it setup and working well for my needs?

Thanks,
YM

Rob Nolan HOW can you fix a boot problem when you can't run this program because the PC won't boot?? Is there a boot CD creation utility to use to boot a non-bootable PC?
Aug 13 2014 at 3:28am Copy Link

Paragon Software Hi Rob!

You can install the software on another working machine and create the bootable USB-flash or CD with Recovery Media Builder Wizard and use it for your non-bootable PC recovery.

If you have any more more questions, please feel free to ask.

michael carlsen I like Paragon and still use their defragment software which had to be stopped commercially because Microsoft demanded they stop due to directory problems. I then apply Perfectdisk. The two combined bring the most difficult to move into line and Perfectdisk is happy with this. I was actually speaking to the paragon lady manager weeks before Microsoft issued their advice. This defragment sofyware points to recovery disk and names 3 recovery sources for it to check. 1- unpack and burn- a recovery cd/dvd 2- recovery media builder cd/dvd 3-- a bootable archive created by archive wizard. . Noting the different lamguage I looked at oppositions Easus notes on the bootable archive and did some learning on changes occurring . It reads thus "Note: Installing a Windows x64 Edition operating system on a GPT disk is not supported. Attempting to do so yields an error. Although Setup allows you to choose a GPT disk partition on the partition selection screen during Text Mode Setup, doing so displays an error message. To assist users in avoiding this error, the partition selection screen clearly indicates whether the partition is configured as an MBR drive or a GPT drive.

GPT is poised to become the standard for hard disk partitioning because of the size limitations of the MBR. It will be the mainstream standard in the near future.".

I had never heard of GPT -- now I know it the thing to come in the future . Can you expand on this at all and the meaning for backup and recovery now and when getting a new computer with newer hard disks of x size. Thanks

Gregg Holbert I heartily recommend Paragon's products. Most people back up and assume the backup will work when they need it. I know that is risky. I've tested Paragons products and (unlike others) Paragon has delivered 100%. Most importantly - their bootable flash drive actually works (you provide the flash drive – the software walks you through setting it up to build for your PC.). I spent almost 3 solid days a week ago researching options for having a failover response to a PC emergency. Long story short – Paragon was the only company out of five that was able to create a boot flash drive that actually worked. Other companies promise this – then they require the massive and complicated install of “Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit”. This kit installs approximately 15 different components including SQL Server express etc. promising to bog down and complicate your machine forever . Worst of all (except for paragon) in the end the other vendors boot media didn't work. Paragon did – I bought it.

I bought the Hard Disk Manager suite and the Mac to PC and PC to Mac utilities over a month ago. I have been very happy with these products. I'm a technology professional in the field since 1990. Paragon has always been a solid partition manager. Their Mac to PC utility is also uniquely helpful. It was a little annoying to have to download seven different things. However, when I was done I was able to install specifically what I needed on the machine that I needed it. I also sell software that I've written – so I understand the need for strict licensing. There are other ways of doing it – if you want a simpler way I would recommend Acronis. Both the licensing and installation are simpler. However, having used Acronis for over a year I decided to switch back to a more sophisticated product – one not limited to id10t mode. I can also recommend Retrospect as a great backup tool. I especially like that Paragon has this new ability to backup to a bootable protected partition on your drive.

Michael R. Is it possible, to backup the complete harddisk, in a way it can restored to another one and the result is a clone?

Is it possible to do this, but exclude the content of some partitions, perhaps because they are being backuped regularily anyway?

This would be quite useful, because after a crash
(1) some necessary partions, e.g. the bootmanager-partition, recovery-partition, ... and the structure of the rest could be recovered, so no more boot problems
(2) the backup/restore would be small and quick, because only the partitions, which are not restored from a regular (incremental) backup are saved here.

If P-B&R-Home can't do it, can it be done with another product (in your product-line)?

William W. Geertsema At top left of this offer it states:
"Including free upgrade to version 16!"
According to The Fine Print, however:
"Upgrades to future versions of the software will be free for minor versions
only. For versions after that, upgrades will require additional payment, which will be discounted."

Which one of these contradictory statements is correct?
With version 16 apparently in the pipeline, I would be foolish to buy version 15 now without a free upgrade to version 16.

Please reply before the offer terminates.

however in this case alone the vendor has chosen to make an exception by providing version 16 for free to all customers who purchase version 15 during today's promotion.
