Robert Baker The download link downloaded a file but when opening it fails with an error message that says that the file does not contain a program. The file extension is .msi.

Gavin Bolton msi files are installer files.

You may not have the Windows Installer Redistributable on your computer hence it's not installing.

InsaneXade Question, what makes this different from say Macrium Reflect, which I successfully used to migrate all my files to a new (larger) hard drive last month?

Also the email states "Download using the link above and install the software. No registration code is needed to unlock this software." And yet, it is requesting both a product key and a serial number upon running the installer.

There is a button to register on your site but why should I do that when the initial email clearly states that there is no code required? Seems to be a blatant effort to increase the membership of your mailing list.

Like Leo Valchi, I'd like to know the answer to this question, too.
I'm sure "compact" is another word for "stripped-down" but I'd like to know what features are missing in comparison to the Pro version.
And thank you for this Free version, it is very generous of you. Lately, I was looking for some good software to copy, move partitions and downloaded some of your other freeware, so this came as a nice surprise. I'm looking to go into business and I may need the professional versions of your softwares in the future. Thank you in advance.

Michael R. Having just bought a new Laptop I wanted to use my old win7 system with all the applications I installed on it on the new computer, i.e. I want to migrate my old system to a new computer, not just a new harddisk. Unfortunately after some seconds of booting I got a bluescreen. Unfortunately neither trying to deinstall the hardware-drivers quite manually, nor using sysprep changes anything about the bluescreen.

Can this tool or any other of yours (or anything else) help me in doing this? Of course I don't want to buy anything, just to find out, that this does not work either...

Having some time ago bought Paragon HarddiskManager Suite 11, I am wondering if this suite could do or help me in that for my Win7, x64 system?

re Restoring an image into a new PC
This may be of interest to others as well.
Up till now I have been using the free Seagate DiscWizard program (as a bootable CD) to make images of my whole drive (of the main partition).
If my PC died, I could restore the image to a new PC, provided that I DID NOT BOOT INTO the Restored (new) PC.
The trick is to Restore the image, and then immediately insert the Windows CD, and do a Repair Install (that is NOT the Recovery Console Repair)
That allows the Windows CD to detect the new hardware, and 'correct' the drivers information.
I don't like Win7 so all my experience is with XP Pro.
But I believe that you could do this with Win7

If today's giveaway can be used in a similar fashion (to what I have been doing with the Seagate software), then you could try what I have outlined above.

I would appreciate feedback from anyone that tries this,

Mike S What does one need to do to get an actual, successful download here? Been trying, now, for more than 6 hours, and the download system consistently cruds up at 60% downloaded, 30%, 10%, etc, and then has to be begun, again, from scratch. This happens under both IE and Chrome--it is not the fault of the browser.

How can I actually GET 100% of the software I signed up for?

DC Cardwell I see some people have had trouble but just for the record, I received my email without any problems, and when I clicked "Register" I was able to get my registration code and it worked fine.

The software also installed without any problem but when I rebooted I got a blue screen of death. However, I rebooted again (I use XP) and the second time I selected "Restart the last Windows that worked" (or whatever the phrase it) and it booted up OK.

This time Windows installed a "new driver" and then everything was fine. I suspect this was because I chose to also install the included "GPT technology" - I didn't know what that was but I looked it up and it apparently "allows Windows etc to use Very Large Drives", i.e. over 2 TB, so it seems like a good idea to have in this era of, well, Very Large Drives.

Anyway, thanks to Paragon and BDJ for the very handy free software. I've used Paragon Partition Manager for many years without any trouble and it's been incredibly useful for me as I do a lot of partition tweaking!

Mike S Thank you for sending a direct link to the installer. Unfortunately, your download process still does not work. I have now tried over 3 dozen times between yesterday and today, on a new Windows 8 computer system, using both IE and Chrome, and cleaning out browser caches, restarting the computer, and anything else I can think of. This morning, I got as far as 55% downloaded before the transmission froze; usually, it freezes well before then. And, unlike with other downloads and systems, when a download is resumed, it starts from the very beginning.

Is this how BitDuJour usually works? The most frustrating system and situation I've seen in years, unfortunately.

If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to let me know. Otherwise, this has been a tremendous waste of my time, again unfortunately.

Michael Reznikov Received email and successfully downloaded the mci. file. But registration page doesn't open up as well the front page of www.paragon-software.com. Which means the server is down or overloaded.
Technically the registration page (Google cached copy) ask only the name and email (which you already know - it was required for the download). Why don't sent the key and SN by email?

Michael Reznikov To Adele Michaels: Not exactly - just be sure that download is complete (it should be ~ 115 MB) and every thing is going smoothly.
It looks like Paragon's site works but with some problem of page reloading. Made two attempts to register from the Google's cache copy and received 2 emails.
From my experience, Paragon's s/w works well and definitely is worth the effort.
Seagate DiscWizard is a very good free program but the target drive for the migration should be of Maxtor or Seagate brand (both HDD and SSHD)!

Warren Russell FWIW, it worked perfectly for me when I followed the procedure described above. For all those who've been asking if they need to install right away, I had the same question--but when I saw Nico's post, I checked the Fine Print tab--and the answer is yes, you have to install now.

I installed right away because I didn't want to miss the opportunity, but I'm not really sure if I need the product. One problem that I've always had with Paragon software is that there's so much overlap and duplication among the various product lines that they're really difficult to compare. Someone said earlier that they have the virtualization software and were wondering whether Drive Copy is included in that product. Similarly, I have Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12 Suite, and I'd like to know whether or not Drive Copy 12 Compact is a part of it. Disk Manager 12 Suite has a "Migrate OS" feature; is this the same thing? It also has a "Copy Hard Disk" wizard.

And, as someone else asked, what are the limitations of the Compact version?

Presumably, with both the executable file and the reg. code/key, the program can be installed/re-installed later (and the Fine Print says that the program may be used indefinitely).

Charles Einloth After numerous tries, I finally got the confirmation email with the download link. Download was successful, but despite the confirmation email saying I didn't need a registration code to activate the software, I got a pop-up asking for the activation code and when I clicked "cancel" (since the email said I didn't need an activation code!) the installation cancelled! Any suggestions?? Judging from the rest of the feedback on here, this has been pretty much a bust!
